  1. Sonnets? Not Emily Dickinson. Unless you can sing a sonnet to "Yellow Rose of Texas" or the "Gilligan's Island" theme song.
  2. If he starts up his confessional bits again, this could be a good one.
  3. After Ken said, "Only _____ contestants have ever had ten or more wins," I gave him a bonus point for not adding, "And two of us are on this stage."
  4. Monday's FJ clue: TheJeopardyFan said "I’m also not entirely sure why the show thought it necessary to include 'now considered a classic' in the clue" and I agree. I haven't read "Lolita" but the last I heard, it was still repulsive porn.
  5. "About face" reminded me of "I used to be clueless, but since then I've done a complete 360."
  6. A useful link when a site seems not to be working: https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
  7. Not a mom, but I freak out because preemption is usually because of sportsball, which IMO should have its own channel and not preempt regular programming.
  8. Maybe a minister of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. (It costs $59 to be ordained, and in some places they can perform legal marriages.)
  9. Why did they accept just "Zhedong" for FJ? Wouldn't that be like accepting "George" for the first president of the US? It didn't affect the results, but ...
  10. Week 39: 4/5, 1 *. Bringing an assortment of tapas (Eurofood, Monday); hoping everyone loves garlic.
  11. FJ was straightforward with the Vulcan saying "Only Nixon could go to China." During this episode they aired an ad for Jeopardy listing the occupations of many contestants. Couldn't they find a butcher, a baker, and a candlestick maker?
  12. Guessing you don't live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where an alewife is a species of fish, a female tavern owner, a brook, a road, and a subway station.
  13. The late night TV show people are not the only ones who may have been kicking themselves this week. "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me," the NPR news quiz show, did a clip show this weekend instead of new material. Thursday night I wondered if Stephen would do a show from his office or bathtub, as he did during Covid. But no.
  14. Week 38: 3/5 + 1 *. Bringing fruit salad.
  15. Air date September 15 on PBS. Trailer, Cast, etc.
  16. This reminds me of a quotation: A member of Parliament to Disraeli: 'Sir, you will either die on the gallows or of some unspeakable disease.' That depends, Sir,' said Disraeli, 'whether I embrace your policies or your mistress.'
  17. Since Mary, Missy, and Meemaw will not be on G&M, we won't get to see how Georgie helped them. I hoped he helped them deal with their grief and shock, but maybe he was just generally supportive (helping them find a new place to live etc.) Maybe they will tell us, but that's not as effective as showing.
  18. The "60 Minutes" TV show on May 26 had a segment on the isle of Man. A lot of it is about a motorcycle race, but there is a fair amount of info on scenery, history, and culture. This has the video and transcript: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tt-isle-of-man-motorcycle-race-60-minutes-transcript/
  19. The "Small" category reminded me of this: Q: How can you get out of the commodities market [or the cryptocurrency market] with a small fortune? A:
  20. The lighting in that painting is incredible. As the linked article mentions, this is one of the paintings that were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990, and remain missing. There is some hope that the paintings might be recovered after the people who have them die.
  21. Maybe Claire had watched "ER" and was thinking, "At least they didn't drop a helicopter on me."
  22. Week 37: 3/5.
  23. I can. Prospective contestants need to do a lot of studying, so they should have a basic background in Shakespeare, classic movies and books, etc.
  24. “Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee," the Rembrandt painting from Thursday's FJ.
  25. From today's clues: Stop motion: "The Wizard of Speed and Time" (1979) by Mike Jittlov Barbieheimer costume
