  1. The Mayflower discussion reminds me of the DAR. I have Rev. War ancestors, and if I lived close enough to DC to use the DAR library I might be tempted to join, but otherwise I'm not. A relative applied in the 1930s, and when they received her application they invited her for an interview; this was unusual and she suspected that they wanted to make sure she was white, since many people with her surname are not. (Hey DAR, does the name Crispus Attucks ring a bell?) She did join, but resigned in 1939 when the DAR wouldn't let Marian Anderson sing in their hall.
  2. Could someone please remind us what Otis has done before? I think he and Georgiana were interested in each other long ago, but I don't remember what happened.
  3. I too was baffled by FJ. I knew what an eponym was, and was sure that the clue referred to France, but the phrases seemed too long for a headline. And somehow I thought they wanted a verb.
  4. If Charlotte's parents want Ralph as a son-in-law, they have other daughters to offer. One of them might be more enthusiastic.
  5. If you were Sass (or the writers), what ghost power would Sass have? He is curious, so he might like exceptionally sharp hearing to eavesdrop on conversations, but if he had that he would know it by now. Probably ditto for becoming invisible even to the other ghosts. If the writers decide Sass should have a ghost power, it will likely be something they can use more than once.
  6. Sass would probably like to read more, but he can't turn pages. Maybe Sam or Jay could set up an e-reader to go to a new page after a certain amount of time.
  7. Week 29: 4/5 + 1*. Since tomorrow is April Fools' Day, I'll bring my famous Tomato Surprise. "There's no tomato in this." "Surprise!"
  8. So did I. So did my house plants. What shows does this remind you of? Someone mentioned "Chuck." I'm thinking "Scorpion," which was sort of a live action cartoon.
  9. Joke? I thought she was about to recruit Ken to be a fullback on her team. :-)
  10. I got rather tired of the political people naming countries but meaning people. "If Austria does its duty" apparently meant "If Marie Antoinette gives birth to a healthy son" with a large side dose of "And if she doesn't, it is 100% her fault (and Austria's)."
  11. Louis XIV was the Sun King. Some people call Louis XV the Fun King, and Louis XVI the Done King. Hoping that people who know the history will continue to comment on what this production gets right and wrong.
  12. Week 28: 5/5 + 1*. Bringing strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries (my favorite). If Ken could zap someone with lightning, I wonder whom he would choose.
  13. The grocery store set had a sign "Eggs 99 cents." Either the set has been like that for a long time, or the store is selling boxes of about three eggs.
  14. Ironic that Mrs. Pickard's ancestors were immigrants (French silk workers) but she didn't see the connection. At least at the end she found a bit of common ground with the other new mother. Lucille's relative and her short husband reminded me of a relative of mine in the early 1900s. She was a tall big woman who married a man who was a head shorter and weighed less than half what she did. Some people giggled behind their backs, but he adored her and she enjoyed being adored, so they were happy.
  15. Week 27: 2/5 with 1* (Wednesday). Bringing a quiche, your favorite flavor. In one of my jobs we sometimes had people coming from out of town for meetings. At lunch, if they looked at the menu and asked, "What is a kwitchy?" we knew not to be too daring when we chose a place for dinner.
  16. If Joni had a phone app that could make noises, such as two more chair squeaks if she heard one, might that help her cope?
  17. I was lucky enough to know that, so I got Rembrandt, although the only thing I know about art shows is to make sure the paintings don't fall down. Kind of reminds me of the sort of clue Jeopardy often has. Category: Medieval History. Clue: [Obscure event] occurred in 1473 in this city, which is the capital of France. Yesterday I thought of a largeish landlocked country, but I was on the wrong continent.
  18. Apparently clothing can be rearranged a bit if it is not removed. We don't know how Hetty died, or why she was wearing that dress, or whether she had anything on under it ... Someone said ghosts can have sex but they can't finish.
  19. The word Gerrymander comes from a political cartoon, in case anyone here hasn't seen it.
  20. Years ago, I heard that the main actors hoped to make further episodes occasionally. Doyle's Holmes had a long career, so the actors getting older should not be a problem.
  21. I was rather surprised that Sheldon blamed himself. He could have blamed Prof. Sturgis or someone else involved in the project, or assumed that the potential users of the database were too ignorant to understand its importance.
  22. Some smoke detectors contain a small amount of radioactive material, so I was wondering about that.
  23. Week 26: 4/5 (Mon-Thu) with the Monday asterisk. Bringing hummus (your favorite flavors) and veggies for everyone.
  24. According to J-archive, the clue was "Sounding like a part of a saddle, it means to beat with the fists." So I'd say pummel was correct. Hoping Maya has a better day tomorrow.
