  1. "IC1 male" is an example of an IC code used by British police to describe someone's apparent ethnicity. (I'm not British so I looked it up.)
  2. The children who received the Salk polio vaccine (or a placebo) in 1954) were called Polio Pioneers.
  3. Week 44: 5/5. For "Last Alphabetically," I'll bring a variety of zucchini dishes. (Thanks, garden!)
  4. Not that it affects the outcome, but ... IMO, they should not have accepted "dark side of the moon." It may be a popular phrase but it is incorrect. ("Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.")
  5. I hope that's Fahrenheit.
  6. 3/5, no *.
  7. They are looking for teams of three people to play Pop Culture Jeopardy! Info and link to test. Not my thing, but some folks here may be interested.
  8. So has mine. This may be an option for stations.
  9. They could at least put the text in the closed captions, but they don't bother.
  10. The dean(?) said in court that the replacement professor was not good, so possibly Jasper may get his position back. On the other hand, the administration may be satisfied with a professor who doesn't make waves, even if he doesn't teach well.
  11. Doesn't the church have an administrative person to handle finances, correspondence, etc.? Someone should have been there to show Alphy where things are, the schedule, etc.
  12. Today's TV schedule showed this: Jeopardy! 05-09-2023 Season 39, Episode 172 Three contestants play a different kind of trivia quiz hosted by Ken Jennings. Whoever scores the highest after a series of quizzes will get the chance to play the bonus round for bigger prizes. It sounded like some variant game, but it was an ordinary Jeopardy game, hosted by Mayim Bialyk. Possibly whoever wrote the description had never watched the show.
  13. Week 42: glad Cat knew where her towel was. I got 3/5 + 1 *. Today I said Anne Sullivan.
  14. FJ for me came down to "Who wrote Ozymandias?" but I remembered in time. Re Maryl's interview, I once had the 1812 overture stuck in my head (cannons and all) and got an awful headache. I do like the piece, especially as performed by the Boston Pops, even though it has nothing to do with American independence.
  15. Week 41: 2/5 (Monday & Wednesday), or 3/5 if the tiebreaker counts. No *. Thursday I said Zelda Fitzgerald, and today I didn't know what they were asking for, so I was in good company.
  16. For that General Science clue: The ant has made herself illustrious By constant industry industrious. So what? Would you be calm and placid If you were full of formic acid? --Ogden Nash
  17. I can't let a discussion of football fight songs go by without mentioning Tom Lehrer's Fight Fiercely, Harvard!
  18. Week 40: 4/5. YTD: 134/200, 18 *.
  19. Sonnets? Not Emily Dickinson. Unless you can sing a sonnet to "Yellow Rose of Texas" or the "Gilligan's Island" theme song.
  20. If he starts up his confessional bits again, this could be a good one.
  21. After Ken said, "Only _____ contestants have ever had ten or more wins," I gave him a bonus point for not adding, "And two of us are on this stage."
  22. Monday's FJ clue: TheJeopardyFan said "I’m also not entirely sure why the show thought it necessary to include 'now considered a classic' in the clue" and I agree. I haven't read "Lolita" but the last I heard, it was still repulsive porn.
  23. "About face" reminded me of "I used to be clueless, but since then I've done a complete 360."
  24. A useful link when a site seems not to be working: https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
  25. Not a mom, but I freak out because preemption is usually because of sportsball, which IMO should have its own channel and not preempt regular programming.
