  1. I loved hearing Chris de Burgh, but I am in my late 40s. That song was a huge hit when I was in junior high school. I agree with those who pointed out that he would not be known to people in Clayton and Suzie's age demo. I thought that Suzie shopping in the designer boutique and selecting the red gown was inspired by the film Pretty Woman. There are two similar sequences in that movie. In one scene, Richard Gere's character takes Julia Roberts' character to the opera and presents her with a beautiful red gown to wear. She gets all dressed up and everyone points and whispers as she parades through the hotel lobby in the gown. Total princess fantasy. In another sequence of the movie, RIchard Gere takes Julia Roberts shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and buys her thousands of dollars in designer clothes. "Pretty Woman" was a massive hit in 1993 and would be well known by the same demographic who remember the 1980's. It's a fantasy film about how meeting a guy instantly improves the life of a sad, poor Hollywood hooker. Make of it what you will.
  2. They really messed up. Her lips looked GRAY. How is that possible? The makeup people made her look like dead Laura Palmer on Twin Peaks. They need to do better next week!
  3. Agree, this is one of the main reasons to watch the show. That was so stupid. It is completely unbelievable that New York SVU has nothing better to do than chase down a rape case based on a word of mouth complaint from a relative. They would have told her to have Michelle come to the station to report the assault. And then, of course Benson has to get on her soapbox about her "child of rape" trauma and act all pissy and aggrieved. I'm really over her shit. This also gave us another retcon of the horrible mother, Serena, as we learned that Serena told 15-year-old Benson that she wished she was never born. Never mind that Serena was portrayed as a loving mother in Season 1. She just gets more and more monstrous every time they talk about her. I dIdn't get why Rollins' kid doesn't know her dad. Rollins never introduced Jessie to her father or at least talked to her about who her father was? I am not a Rollins fan either because she never owns her train wreck behavior.
  4. The answer is yes. His voice is very sexy. He is also reliable and well-informed and knows when to shut up. i was enjoying listening to his commentary on NBC coverage of a skating competion from 2016. He is right up there with Jim Nantz as a comforting and familiar voice. Which brings me to my next point: On the very same broadcast, Tara Lipinski talked over an entire wonderful performance of Hubbell and Donahue. She was so annoying that I could not finish watching. NBC has let her do the very same garbage for years. I wish that they would get her some voice training. If her voice were smoother or lower pitched, it would be less annoying. I also wish that they would give her a comment limit. If you literally count to "5" on any performance she narrates, that's your time to enjoy it without Tara talking. Five seconds. GEEZ.
  5. My God, Mara is unbearable with the constant talk about being she's the only one there who is ready to be a wife. She's delusional. I bet men run away from her after one date.
  6. This sport is insane. It's unbelievable seeing people go headfirst down an ice track at such high speed. I hold my breath every time watching the athletes go down the track. This is the first time that I've really watched this sport. It looks very hard to control the sled. I do see the athletes using their feet to maneuver to some degree, but it always looks like they can hit the wall at any moment. According to this article, skeleton has been banned from the Olympics twice. You can also see a view of what it looks like going down the track. https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/530895/no-bones-about-it-see-how-terrifying-sport-skeleton-can-
  7. It's crazy. i can't believe they allow downhill skiing in such low visibility.
  8. I think that Marie-France and Patrice leave a lot of the packaging up to the couples, and they bring the best choreographers and skating coaches to help with the concept that the skating pair has picked. In the Olympic Channel documentary, Madison said that she and Evan originally picked Sade for their long program. They had a whole program to Sade, which they decided to scrap four months before the Olympics. In Madison's words, "We liked Sade, but we can do something better." Madison and Evan worked on their own with a musician to get the specific cuts of music. Madison also designed their costumes. It seemed like a lot of extra work that they undertook on their own. I think Marie France really likes Madison's body positions, and it inspires the work. She praised Madison in the documentary, particularly her ability to use her arms. Also, Maddie Hubbell is tall for a skater at 5-7, and maybe this affects some of her ability to do choreography next to a partner. I feel like she is less graceful with her body positions than Madison Chock. On another note, I re-watched Virtue and Moir's 2018 program yesterday. As they skated off the ice, you could see Zach kissing Maddie in the background. They must have still been a couple at that point.
  9. In the documentary on the Olympic Channel, they said skated together for five years before becoming a couple. Evan said that he asked her to be more than friends and told Maddie that he was in love with her.
  10. It was a very nasty divorce between the Oilers and the city of Houston. Bud Adams demanded a new stadium. When he did not get it, he moved the Oilers to Tennesee, where they became the Titans. Some hard core Oilers fans still follow the Titans. Houston got a new stadium and an expansion team six or seven years after the Oilers left. They were named the Texans. One thing that the teams have in common was the Phillips family. Bum Phillips was the head coach of the Oilers, and his son, Wade Phillips served as defensive coordinator and interim head coach of the Texans.
  11. NBC is really trying my patience with the back and forth coverage between events. I like skating the most of any winter games events, but it pisses me off to no end when they show two or three skaters' programs and then cut to something else, only to say that they will be back later with the rest. On the East coast, this means after 10 or even 11 pm. They do this every Olympics.
  12. He's incredible. He's like a ballet dancer on ice. From what I understand, Madison's greatest strength is her detailed movement with her arms and torso. They compliment each other so well. I hope that they continue this momentum in the rest of the competition.
  13. The post race interview with Mikaela was really strange. She said that there was nothing wrong with the course, but the interviewer never asked that. I got the feeling that the course sucks, and she can't say so on air.
  14. I felt the same way after seeing them in On Edge. She and Zach do argue a lot on the ice but they joked around in the off ice parts. In the series, she said that their personal partnership was like "fire and fire," and that's why it did not work. But she seemed to love talking about how they dated before.
  15. Okay, thanks I didn't remember because she annoyed me as a skater, too. Agree about Scott, especially when he gets excited and does his high-pitched yelling.
  16. Tara acts like people are watching the Olympics for her commentary. I swear, as soon as the program starts she comes in yapping. She is one of the only sports commentators that I turn down. Yesterday she kept going on about whether women had triple jumps. My problem with this is that Tara didn't do triples. She was also about 4'8" and 85 pounds when she won the Olympics, and she never competed as a full grown adult. Her small size advantage was very real. I am totally over the Russian skate-bots. I'd like to see Japan's Wakaba Higuchi get a medal. She has an amazing ability go make her program connect and flow.
  17. There was a scene in the first or second season where Kim said that she became a flight attendant while she was waiting to get into the police academy. She told Erin that she learned a lot about people while flying. I thought that the show was explaining Kim's sunny demeanor was due to her flight attendant training. My guess is that the Chicago academy is competitive and she was not accepted on her first try.
  18. Last night, I caught a rerun of the second episode with Upton. It's the episode right after Erin left Chicago. It was pretty jarring to see how Hailey was portrayed in that episode compared to now. She was shown as kind of an affable team player. She brought donuts for her second day on the job and she was smiling. At the end of her shift, she told Trudy that her dad's restaurant was robbed when she was 12, and he was attacked. Trudy brought her to the station and stayed with her until her dad was out of surgery. She said that Trudy was the reason she became a cop. Trudy got teary-eyed. This is a way of saying that Hailey is completely unrecognizable from how she started. They used the abuse storyline to make her a very dark, angry person, which is a big change from the nice girl who idolized Trudy.
  19. The only thing I could find was that she represented Haiti in track and field. Apparently, her parents are Haitian. I've lived in Houston - and I love it there - but I was wondering WTF they were doing there. I told my husband that they were probably headed to one of Houston's high end strip clubs to put on a show. I'm pleasantly surprised that they didn't do that. From what I can gather, the point of going to Houston was to promote the Texans and those BBQ guys. The place where they rode the horses and had the BBQ is about 50 miles from downtown Houston, where the hotel was. I think it's actually in a different county than downtown. The Texans stadium is only about 4 miles from downtown, so the girls on the football date had a much shorter trip. I hated the football date. They could have done something less violent. I was just waiting for someone to get knocked out.
  20. It was also a ripoff of Chicago PD. On that show, officer Kim Burgess found out that she was pregnant after visiting the ER when she cut her arm squeezing through a metal fence.
  21. Danielle Collins beat Iga Swiatek to make it to the Australian Open final. She'll play Ash Barty for the title. Barty won her semifinal in straight sets over Madison Keys. The first set only took 26 minutes. Wow. Barty and Collins have played each other 4 times, with Barty winning 3 of those matches. Should be a good matchup.
  22. My husband and I go out to dinner with other couples frequently, and we always sit next to each other across from the other couple. Tim and Lucy sitting next to each other was a staging choice for the show, so they could look and act like a couple. The bottom line is TIm and Lucy both acted like asshats, what with ignoring their dates and throwing around cop lingo. This show is really stupid sometimes. The writers need to get a clue where the storyline is going and stop with these ship bait scenes.
  23. I am a heartbroken Bills fan, and I'm doing the same. I just love Joe Burrow and Jamarr Chase.
  24. The dinner thing with Tim and Lucy was stupid. We are supposed to believe that they don't know how to act on a date. I realize that this is supposed to be a variation of "everyone knows they like each other, except them." It still doesn't work for me because, when they are alone together, they never really show that they like each other as more than partners. I thought Ashley should have gotten up at dinner and told Tim to go fuck himself. It did not ring true to me that she would just sit there like a passive idiot. I also thought it was dumb that Tim asked the lawyer out on a date with Lucy. How did Tim know that the guy is not married or in a relationship? It's not like they are buddies. Nyla's happy pregnancy demeanor cracked me up. Mekia Cox was fantastic. She her real-life pregnancy on Twitter yesterday, and thanked the producers for incorporating it into the show. Another great thing was no Jenna Dewan in this episode. Nolan had way more chemistry in that two minute scene with that guest actress than he's ever had with her.
  25. Hubbell and Donahue are retiring as a pair after this season. In the Olympic Channel documentary, she said that she plans to move back to Michigan. I'm not sure whether Zach intends to continue with a new partner. The ice dance training center in Montreal currently has couples representing Spain, Great Britain, and Canada. C/B and H/D were the only Americans featured.
