  1. I haven't seen Creed, but Richard Brody had a few things to say about its omission in The New Yorker: Emphasis added by me. I'll definitely see the film now.
  2. The cut-out trend, along with v-necklines that plunge to the waist, can go away. Right. Now.
  3. Many a GG winner were not even nominated for the "real" award, i.e., Oscar or Emmy. OTOH, once in a while, they manage to get things right. For example, I was pleasantly surprised to see Oscar Isaac win for Show Me A Hero. He was truly exceptional in that limited series, even outshining (IMO) Patrick Wilson, whom I loved in Fargo.
  4. Florrick Agos may be a partnership, but it should still have a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and accounting systems with internal controls, like more than one person having to sign checks or contracts involving large sums of money. No way David Lee could have just set up the shell corporation he described and parked $2M there without anyone knowing. He's committed out-and-out fraud, which I can only assume will eventually get back to Alicia via Jackie.
  5. Not sure how you extrapolated from my comment that I'd be bored by Spotlight. I was criticizing the utter lack of class and seriousness on display last night. Spotlight sounds very classy.
  6. With fast-forward, I was able to watch this tribute to tackiness in under 2 hours. Did the participants have some kind of bet about who could be "bleeped" the longest? That got nauseating pretty quickly, as did the "edginess" of the parade of ugly dresses, and I do use that clothing classification loosely. There isn't a movie among the nominees that I was dying to see before this, and that hasn't changed. Spotlight looks good, but can wait for DVD.
  7. Aw, loved Richard Libertini. His presence always enlivened a movie or TV show.
  8. I currently have over 50 hours of material stored on my DVR with plenty of room to spare. (But I don't record many programs in HD unless I know I'll delete them fast, as they really eat up space fast.)
  9. Looks like this was the first actual writing credit ("written by") for Njeri Brown and Lisa McQuillan, who previously were credited only as staff writers. I think they need to rewatch The Word to see how it's done.
  10. I'm not familiar with Sian Blake's work, but my gosh, this is horrific. The two boys were 8 and 4 years old. Can. Not. Process.
  11. That was flat-out bad. First episode I can say I actively disliked.
  12. It doesn't appear that Lew Ayres was blacklisted per se. According to Wikipedia: The AA nomination suggests his reputation was back intact.
  13. Aw, Pat Harrington. I remember him popping up in all kinds of guest-starring roles on TV before he found his groove as Schneider.
  14. I haven't watched the latest episode yet, but I watched Tuesday's Grinder and was dismayed to see that my DVR recording of that show picked the very end of the B99 episode that preceded it. Blergh. Here's hoping it's also on the end of the B99 recording (I had previously set those to go one minute past the scheduled ending time.)
  15. I think it's a somewhat tawdry way to generate clicks. ::sigh:
  16. Another thing to consider about an Elizabeth pregnancy is paternity. The character has sex with many people.
  17. Ha-ha, I'm right there with ya in the old fart demographic, so I know from whence I speak. ;-)
  18. According to reports I've read, they've wrapped filming of S4 and S5 (if there is one) would start after Russell has given birth.
  19. I guess this is as good a place as any to ask: What is the back-story on how Phoebe came into the Friends circle? I think she was Monica's roommate in that apartment at one time, but how did that happen? Did she answer an ad? She doesn't seem like the type of applicant Monica would go for.
  20. ETA: Sorry, belongs in a different thread. But so that I don't waste your time, I recently saw the episode where Giovanni Ribisi first shows up as Phoebe's half-brother, Frank, Jr. The story he told about how their dad loved walking on stilts was pretty cool. I'm glad they brought him back in later episodes.
