  1. Things did change (they always do), but to me, Hank's statement also had a whiff of old-man exaggeration to it.
  2. Do you watch The Grinder? Olyphant had a hilarious guest-starring role in the two episodes that aired just before Christmas, and I think he'll be in tonight's episode as well. There was a great Justified joke in his first scene (he plays a version of himself, ala Matt LeBlanc in Episodes).
  3. That's true, CherryAmes. I think that, to some extent, all the adult characters are amalgams of Romano and Rosenthal relatives. Certainly Frank and Marie seem to be.
  4. If people think Debra is based on Anna Romano, then she doesn't come off well in later years either. I think she's laughing all the way to the bank.
  5. The older brother, Richard, who was a police officer and is just a year or so older than Ray. The 3rd brother is about 6 years younger than Ray.
  6. ETA: Had not heard of this movie Ray's brother, Richard, did. But I do recall him in the ELR episode where Robert proposed to Amy. He's a nice-looking guy!
  7. Ray and his brothers seems to get along just fine as adults. Ray even collaborated with them on a children's book he was approached to write.
  8. Aretha's hair looked perfect. I wouldn't have squashed that 'do with a hat either. People are still buzzing about her performance. A true show-stopper. Now I must get tickets to Beautiful. :-)
  9. I treated myself to a copy for Christmas and began reading it this morning. Thanks for the recommendation! It is delightful. Can't remember the last time I laughed to myself so much while reading.
  10. Yes, I know that. But it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to say "First Parnell Roberts, now Wayne Rogers" as though their deaths were somehow connected, when ithey occurred 6 years apart. :-)
  11. And he was really built, too, the sonofagun. RIP Trapper/Wayne.
  12. It actually kinda sounds like a Brady Bunch rerun. As ExplainItAgain said, I'll reserve judgment -- but it will be hard!
  13. Reportedly, after Marisa Tomei turned down the part of Carrie in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Jeanne Tripplehorn was cast but pulled out just before filming began due to her mothers death. Not sure Tripplehorn would have been much of an improvement over Andie MacDowell (who many, including me, see as the weak link in the cast), but I think Tomei could have done a lot more with the role.
  14. Milburn Stone, I think you are correct. Joni Mitchell had released both Clouds and Ladies of the Canyon before then (1969 and 1970, respectively), but they didn't have the same impact as Tapestry.
  15. I liked that King is an alto, so all of her songs were in my vocal range. ;-) Like many of my contemporaries, I played Tapestry over and over and over in 1971. Her voice is not "pretty" but then neither is Neil Diamond's, IMO, but I loved them both for their authenticity.
  16. I saw a road company of that version in Chicago a few years ago. I don't know if there was overlap with the Broadway cast, but I was distinctly unimpressed by the voices of Maria and Tony. Bernstein wrote a lot of high notes, and the singers should not be straining to reach them!
  17. Watching it On Demand, which means there's no escaping commercials. Grrrr. My expectations were low based on the last few years' events not blowing me away and some tepid comments here and elsewhere, but I thought the Moreno and Lucas segments were both pretty good. Could have done without Desperado. The Eagles will get their moment next year. Cicely is up next.
  18. Just saw the clip of Aretha Franklin singing "Natural Woman." Holy-freakin'-moly. The Queen of Soul still reigns.
  19. I take it you are also not counting Audrey Hepburn's EGOT in this category because her Emmy win was for Outstanding Individual Achievement, Informational Programming? She was arguably performing in Gardens of the World, but not acting, per se. One of my friends lives in Berkeley, CA, and sometimes sees Rita Moreno out walking her dog(s). :-)
  20. Yes, microwaves were not "standard" by 1979. According to Wikipedia:
  21. The NY Times has an excellent rundown of notable deaths in 2015 -- and how, in many cases, they seemed to mark the passing of certain eras.
  22. After reminding you all about the broadcast, I forgot to record it! Oh, well, I'm sure clips will show up on youtube before long.
