  1. The animal people really should pronounce it PET-ah, as in pet ya dog. ;-)
  2. Perhaps Sir Paul wasn't "replaced" in 2002, but I find it little hard to believe that the original intention was to honor both him and Paul Simon in the same year. Also, in all previous years, the KCH have always had exactly 5 recipients, where a linked couple or a group is considered to be one recipient. Complete list here.
  3. The Durst family is in the news again today, as the NY Times chronicles The Durst Dynasty’s Rise, a Scion’s Descent. Included is a photo captioned:
  4. I'm a few days behind, but I thought the Cotillard and Saunders segments a few nights ago were outstanding.
  5. Nominations for 2016 were announced yesterday. The awards show will be broadcast on Jan. 30.
  6. Patrick Wilson also received a GG nomination. Images of Zahn McClarnon. :-)
  7. Full list of 2016 nominees here. The Martian is a comedy or musical? I haven't seen it.
  8. Scully met his wife at an orgy, but I don't recall whether they are still together.
  9. Ah, thanks for the clarification. Looking for an online option now...
  10. I don't think we know, but whatever it was seemed to be tying up his financial resources and/or his ability to conduct business, so that he couldn't go ahead with peddling IBM Selectric Typewriters.
  11. Keith Carradine. His older half-brother David died 6 years ago.
  12. Sioux Falls is the largest city in South Dakota, and home to a number of financial companies and major health care providers. I realize the show is depicting it as Hicksville, but even in 1979, it was a city of over 80,000 people.
  13. According to Slate: The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Has Become the Best Late-Night Show on TV Re political demographics:
  14. From the interview with Zahn McClarnon (Hanzee Dent) that has been linked in a couple of threads: Excellent interview!
  15. Interesting that the chief's name was Cheney. There aren't many characters by that name in TV and movies. I thought the first bullet just grazed Bear, but I was surprised he had so much strength after two bullets to the chest. Maybe there were just flesh wounds, like the pokes Peggy gave Dodd. Those, in turn, reminded me of Inigo Montoyo's sword wounds in the climatic fight in The Princess Bride!
  16. Rashida Jones is in A Very Murray Christmas on Netflix -- and she sings! (Quite nicely)
  17. Damned football game! I never thought to add recording time to my DVR for B99. Only recorded about half of it. Grrrrr.
  18. I don't have time to do the research, but I'm guessing there haven't been many years when women outnumbered men receiving Kennedy Center Honors. There's a lot of editing involved, so I'd be surprised if any nod to the Eagles remains, especially if they're pretty much confirmed for next year. Paul McCartney also declined the first year that the KC contacted him because he had a previous family commitment on the day of the ceremony.
  19. Just learned about this series because of Deon Cole, who apparently was written out of blackish to focus on this.
  20. Recorded Fiddler on the Roof this week. I thought Norman Jewison did a pretty good job adapting it for the movie screen. I particularly like the staging of "Matchmaker, Matchmaker." The movie runs out of steam toward the end, but so do the versions I've seen on stage. Some interesting trivia: Topol was only 35/36 when he portrayed Tevye in the movie. He had performed the role on stage before that. Rosalind Harris, who played eldest daughter Tzeitel in the movie, played the mother Golde opposite Topol in a touring company about 20 years later. Norma Crane, who played Golde, died from breast cancer two years after the movie's release. According to IMDb, when Norma became ill with cancer, her close friend Natalie Wood paid the medical bills as well as the (eventual) funeral costs. Crane was divorced from Herb Sargent (later a primary writer for SNL). Ray Lovelock, who played Fyedka, had an Italian mother and a British father. His IMDb credits list many Italian language movies and TV series. Leonard Frey (Motel the tailor) was only three years younger than Topol. He and Topol received the movie's only acting nominations from Oscars. While he amassed many acting credits before dying from AIDS-related complications at age 49, I was surprised to learn Frey played Lawrence, the only student to attend Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School in the Mary Tyler Moore episode of that name. Tiny Molly Picon was a very different Yente than towering Bea Arthur, who originated the role onstage.
  21. Aw, that's sweet! I surely do miss this show.
  22. I caught the 2nd half or so of Crossing Delancey. Looking for an opportunity to see the whole thing!
  23. As good as the episode was, I felt the lack of Lou, Hank and Mike. Glad we'll see all the main players again soon!
  24. There have been no "cheap shots" at Reagan, IMO. Every reference to him (and there have been many) has been a deliberate commentary on the seductiveness of his ultimately empty rhetoric. YMMV, of course.
  25. Moral of the story: when you think Ronald Reagan is coming to the rescue, you're actually about to get screwed.
