  1. I remember both films! I saw TAOMJP several years after it originally aired (it was airing on a local superstation) and found it interesting but was disappointed it wasn't about a real person. The DeBolt's documentary I also remember - mostly because of the promos for it (aired on ABC and was narrated by Henry "The Fonz" Winkler in 1978) and I think the family was also profiled on Real People. I remember thinking how crazy the family was to adopt so many kids (hey I was a selfish, clueless kid back then!) but today I think of how loving and generous they were to open their home to so many kids in need.
  2. Just saw Bitcheroo today - she really let herself slide lately! Her hair is all gray (she's a bit younger than me) and really looks more like a hag! Maybe my mother's curse worked from beyond the grave!! Meanwhile, for some inexplicable reason, my supervisor decided my partner and I need to keep our edit bay doors open. We explained it wouldn't do us any good and could potentially disturb our focus on the job at hand and it's not like we can hear much outside them anyway. The conversation went something like this: Supervisor: "Yeah. Hey. We want to know what would be the best way to improve your editing abilities during the show?" Me and Partner: "Very simple. All we need is the producers to fill out the stories on time, put all important info in the script like the source of the video and time codes if applicable and if they are planning to change the story in any way to change the video ID number. If they're not changing the script for said story, have them copy the number over so we don't have to reinvent the wheel". Supervisor: "Yeah. We [me and the News Director] want you to keep your edit bay doors open at all times. In case there's breaking news and you can hear the assignment editor at the newsdesk when she yells it out. Oh, if you need video, just step outside your edit bay and yell it out across the newsroom." Me & Partner" "No, that's not what we...." Supervisor: "Good! It's all settled!" Me & Partner: "We can't hear much of anything over the din of the newsroom as we are in a separate wing of the building and even with the door open, we won't hear it. Plus shouting in the newsroom could disturb others" Supervisor: "I can have these doors removed. " So now we have a door opened for no legit reason and still cannot hear anything that can improve our editing. I'm making a sh*t list and checking it twice!
  3. Still not crazy about Station Casino's "Steven Money" campaign but i give them props for their latest commercial in which they take a poke at Caesar's current campaign:
  4. No. We had multiple cameras recording the one special moment and replayed it in subsequent hours of the show. One of the anchors had stepped out during the announcement (not knowing anything) and she was told during the commercial break so her reaction was also filmed and replayed. Then one of the AM producers (also in the dark) was filmed with someone's phone in the booth during the original announcement and we played that too. Now the pregnant anchor blames everything on the baby! During a St. Patty's Day food segment, she said the baby was hungry! Gonna hear a lot of that through September! Then again my sister did it too during her pregnancy.
  5. We got a 2% merit raise last month. Whoopee? Then I heard about this. Wish I could do that! I'd give myself much more money. Meanwhile we had some good news - one of our morning anchors announced her pregnancy this morning and managed to keep it a secret from all but 2 people! I was one of the first to hear the news before the announcement since we had to edit the announcement video which was filmed last week. Then we got to edit all the reaction videos to the news. Baby's due in September.
  6. Yet he was in praise of the original Mulan and had no problem with her as female lead. It was the lesson we are getting from recent films. That message seems to be reverberating in our current culture of entitlement.
  7. I found this video from one of my favorite youtubers and I can't help but agree with the trend he describes. It's why I rarely watch current entertainment now for TV or film. The business is broken and don't know if it can ever recover.
  8. Same. All the shaky cam stuff makes me nauseous and I can't enjoy the film. I'm also annoyed by "documentary style" footage in which people are filmed and there are sudden zoom closeups. I like steady cams thanks!
  9. Oddly enough I don't remember ever seeing this ad. Must have been pulled really quick! I'm guessing they had complaints due to the shameless recycling of a previous commercial and very bad dubbing. Would it have killed them to find a lookalike to continue the brand? The Maytag repairman was recast a few times after the passing of Jesse White and Gordon Jump. Imagine how soon we'll be seeing deep fakes of him and other deceased icons shilling products! Yikes!!
  10. That is a violation of protocol! One's review is a one on one thing, not meant to be a show for the rest of the staff!!
  11. I agree with this! I think that's why British/Australian actors tend to do better in these roles; they have the proper stage training to pull it off, while the Costners, Reeves, Afflecks and Damons are all movie stars but not in the same way.
  12. Keep in mind many resumes are knocked out of contention by a computer! These days, resumes get scanned by some program that looks for certain things and just discards what [the parameters set] doesn't like. It used to be all resumes were looked over by a human being and if they thought you had something to offer, you'd get a call. These days it's hard to get your foot in the door no matter how qualified you are. Throw in various mandates and you lose even more potential candidates.
  13. Sound like he and Col. Tom Parker (Elvis' manager) would get along nicely! I can totally see Treat Williams in that role!!! I agree that Olivia had more chemistry with legendary Gene Kelly. They rarely start out that way. Although point is taken when you see certain couples and wonder, "What did he or she see in him or her??"".
  14. Perfect!! Send this message to the Hollywood types and put it in big letters!!
  15. Not surprised at this revelation. I think it's best it be put out of its misery. It was getting tedious and the majority of characters were just not likeable.
  16. I can't stand this ad campaign by Station Casinos featuring a smartphone with a face called "Steven Money". The whole campaign is just obnoxious to me. This one. This one. and this one. I also hate this campaign from Caesar's Entertainment (Caesar's Palace et al) featuring a ghetto version of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra (since the 60s they had always been featured in a traditional historical look). There's also been a little obnoxious guy named "Carl" who acts like "that guy". Consider my shock when I found out Halle Berry was playing Cleo!
  17. I grew up watching the show when it was in syndication, and for some reason the black and white years of the show were not included in that package. The show always began in color at Mike's wedding (which allowed the character to exit but oddly enough never visit or contact the family!) and Ernie looking to find a new family to live with. It wasn't until the show came on Nick at Night (and more recently, ME-TV) before I got to see those episodes. I had heard he was on other TV shows previously and afterwards (and some films as well) before focusing on other interests. He shall be very much missed in all forms! So sorry to hear about Bookman dying (I remember all those Buffalo Butt jokes) and the loss of Mitchell Ryan (I used to love Dharma & Greg and right now Decades is running the original Dark Shadows from the B/W years).
  18. Website is now complete! Next - advertising! Anyone know the best way to advertise to parents of school aged children? Or even ones with younger then school age but considering the future of education?
  19. Stuff like this is when I refer back to Rules for TV #784: If someone of the main cast is given an awesome opportunity (promotion, dream job, choice of school, marriage to best spouse evah) the writers should stick with it, not suddenly bail with some flimsy excuse (I don't want to leave my friends, my scores weren't high enough, I lost the lottery ticket, etc.) . IRL, Stella would be filing a lawsuit claiming discrimination considering "the paperwork went through". I was surprised to see Spiro back after all these years! I was annoyed that they redeemed him with his "keeping the money in cash on his person because he couldn't figure out how to use a cash register" bit. IRL, many bartenders tend to skim the till (remember when in Roadhouse, when Dalton catches a bartender cheating the owner?) and as a former cashier myself, they are not all that hard to figure out. Hermann et al have to keep track of expenses and taxes so you can't just do that in a bar. I also don't understand why it was a problem for former patrons of The Bombadier to have been at Molly's at all. It's not a yuppie bar, and most patrons already are a mix of working class (firefighters and cops) along with doctors (Chicago Med). It's not like you're clashing with a biker bar vs. a gay bar or something. It's not uncommon and I don't blame Violet for taking advantage - especially when you consider their vehicle was extremely cold and the people they transport need the heat too. If anything I'd blame Chicago Fire's rules for it taking so long to fix. It's a fact of life when people can take advantage of an opportunity they usually will. There are worse things.
  20. We have ample evidence of what Anne Bolelyn looked like. We know she wasn't black. Why depict a well known historical figure as something they weren't? I know Hollywood is no stranger to taking creative license with various historical events but I expect that, because you're trying to entertain. However, this is a matter of completely ignoring facts. If you're casting a role of an historical figure you want someone who at least vaguely resembles them. As I said, when will famous black individuals be cast by white or Asian actors? If that's not going to happen, then they shouldn't be playing fast and loose with casting of historical white figures.
  21. I looked into this - in my state, HIPPA doesn't apply because a "Health Emergency" was declared and despite the mask mandates having finally been dropped, it is still in effect. COVID is being treated like an STD or TB and reports go through the County health district. So no medical privacy here.
  22. Well, it's been a long time but my website is almost complete!! Just putting on the final touches before putting the word out! I'm so excited about this and I'm looking forward to making this a success. It's been about the only thing I can think about for months!
  23. Cornell Law's definition Essentially, it's about a jury sending a message.
  24. An addendum to this is when historical parts are cast with ethnicities that are entirely wrong. Case in point: Ann Boleyn (from the miniseries) was not black! Would casting directors consider casting a white or Asian actor in the part of Malcolm X or Harriet Tubman or Frederick Douglass? I think not. I know I risk opening a can of worms (Rita Moreno as a Burmese woman in the King & I, Natalie Wood as a Puerto Rican woman in the original West Side Story, Liz Taylor and Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra - who was Greek), but some recent casting choices are just ridiculous and pandering to various groups rather than focusing on a good movie.
