  1. I find those questions rather personal and just wait and let it come up naturally, like if you say something in passing, "My boyfriend and I...". I guess it depends on how close you feel with the person to discuss one's personal life. My father used to tell me to try to keep your private things private - the world really doesn't need to know everything about you.
  2. The Peach Pit will never be the same. Tata was one of those, "That guy!" types but he seemed to be in a lot of projects over the years. RIP Mr. Tata
  3. I found this and found it intriguing. I'm tempted to try this. Has anyone else seen this ?
  4. Trust me, fresh milk unpasteurized (especially rich ones like sheep, goat and water buffalo ) tastes so much better than what we all had growing up. You have to try it to believe it. So few people know what it's like to drink milk in its purest form.
  5. It just goes back to the old ways of doing things. The past 60 years have been an effort to make us forget where we came from and what nutrition really is. They call it progress. When it comes to milk, I prefer farm fresh dairy from animals that have never had corn or soy or grain. It helps with allergies, and it's healthier than pasteurized stuff you get at the store. Kind of an almost forgotten secret. My niece is sensitive to pasteurized cow's milk but raw dairy is fine! I found one farm in PA that offers camels milk, water buffalo milk and even sheep milk!! I found all of them delicious BTW!!
  6. Agreed! They have plenty of history in the show's bible to choose a slayer from who isn't Buffy, and still has to do her duty while dealing with the culture she lives in. They should call it, "The Slayer Chronicles" or something like that, in which we could meet a different slayer each season.
  7. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Inflammation can be caused by various foods (and the garbage chemicals used in them). What kind of diet do you follow and where do the foods come from? Also, do you drink tap water? My uncle has been having this problem recently. I suspect it's partially caused by his meds, but also the tap water he drinks and bathes in. Municipal water is filled with crap chemicals from chlorine to fluoride and that in part makes us sick. Unless one was on a private well, I suggest a quality filter. Radiant Life has various kinds of filters at different price ranges. If you live in a condo or apartment, you can get the under the sink filter, and showerheads for the bathroom. If you have a house and can afford it I recommend the POE system (point of entry) which cleans water all through the house. If the water in your area is hard, they have great conditioners too - no salt. They last up to about 5 years depending on the size of the house and how many people live there. I've had my system for 5 years (planning on changing the media) and it's helped a lot with scale and I save a fortune on bottled water. They have consultants who are honest and can help you find the right system. Worse comes to worse, Zero Water pitchers work well for the budget minded, but you'll have to change the filters out fairly frequently if the water in your area is bad. As for skin cream, I love using Tropical Traditions (they have lotion and cream) made with coconut oil and other natural ingredients. Lavender is a personal fave of mine. Grandmother was wise! Molasses is a great source of B vitamins and minerals. In fact, I used it to get rid of fibroids and my PMS disappeared! I only took a spoonful of it daily. Some take it straight on the spoon like I did, but it can also be mixed with hot water like a tea. Organic and unsulfured is best - I buy Plantation brand. For over a century, molasses was served up at breakfast time (or in cookies) to help slip those good ingredients into your body! I love this website for holistic options for various ailments. I have used it and in some cases it can be a case of trial and error to see what works best, but I think it's a good place to start if you don't have a naturopath.
  8. Thought you might find this amusing: Back in June, corporate initiated a contest as to who could hydrate the most. They provided a sheet to document how much water you consumed daily. When the contest date ended, you sent a pic of that sheet to the department and various winners would get a cash prize of $800.00, $100.00 or $50.00 (at each tv affiliate). I was sure to win since I drank on a regular basis a gallon daily (in my job, I'm seated much of the time so I make sure to keep it flowing by taking a gallon jug and keeping it in my bay). I proudly kept track of my intake and when the time frame was up, I emailed my document. Yesterday, I received an email from our office to see about picking up a prize regarding the contest! I was so excited! I entered and was given..... TA DA!! A coaster with the logo of the contest and congratulating me on being so hydrated. I asked what happened with the amount of fluid intake and who beat me. They said it wasn't based on how much you drank (then why fill out those sheets?) but a random drawing of participants (nowhere in the announcements was this mentioned!). One of the reporters got the $800.00 prize I sought - she'd have been lucky to get 2 quarts in, considering they're so busy going in and out on various stories, etc. I was so annoyed! My edit partner (who was also a coaster winner) commiserated with me and then made me laugh by reminding me how similar is thing was to Ralphie's disappointment with his decoder ring in "A Christmas Story. He even asked me if there was anything he could do to make things better!! Sweet kid I have there!
  9. Actually I think it's "sammich"! I never knew speaking in proto baby talk would garner so much success!!
  10. Damn! My family all watched Grease when it was released in theaters! My parents thought it was a hoot (having been teens in the 50s and appreciated the 50s era cameos throughout) and I loved the music! My friends and I used to play "Hopelessly Devoted to You" over and over again! Later, in middle school, when "Physical" became a hit, we used to annoy my science teacher by changing the lyrics to "Let's get CHEMICIAL!". He was slightly amused! I had heard he died, but didn't know it was a car crash! So sorry to lose TC!
  11. Aw man! It wasn't that long ago he did an interview (I think it was TCM) in which he talked about all the roles he did on TV and film. I remember him best from The Virginian (playing the local Sheriff), but that man was in everything! I was impressed he was still alive and seemed to be thriving into his 90s! He even demonstrated how fit he was by squeezing one of those hand strengtheners! If you've ever tried to use squeeze of those, it's not that easy to use. RIP Mr. G.!!
  12. Legendary broadcaster for the Brooklyn and LA Dodgers, Vin Scully has gone to the field of dreams:
  13. Got a bit annoyed by two different incidents in Quantum Leap (show was enjoyable but the writing was particularly weak in it's last season or so and IMO coasted on Scott Bakula's and Dean Stockwell's chemistry). In, "Nowhere to Run" (1992), Sam leaps into a Marine who is an amputee in a VA hospital. He lost both legs below the knees while fighting in Vietnam. When Al finds him, he tells him he has to repair [the leapee's] fractured marriage because according to their records, their eldest son joins the Marines after HS and is a hero in the Gulf War. Later we find out the wife had confessed that she fell in love with someone else while her husband was up to his waist in rice paddies and effectively abandons him. Later, after some more stuff like saving another patient from committing suicide (he was shot in the spine and paralyzed from the neck down), Sam (while still in the body of the leapee) is able to stand up and (from the people's POV, is floating around) punch out a cruel orderly. Then Al tells Sam that he changed history but is surprised that he still has a son who goes on to be a hero in the Gulf War. How? He gets together with a hospital volunteer (played by Jennifer Aniston!). Apparently Al claims to have never thought to check on the mom's name!! Besides the lazy writing here, I was annoyed that we were worrying about saving the leapee's marriage when it seemed they should have focused on the suicidal patient he ultimately saves. During the episode he sees that patient argue with his finacee and sends her away because of him being paralyzed and believing himself a burden. She leaves crying and we never see her again or have any clue as to what happens to him (the episode taking place in 1968). Then, in "Killin' Time", Sam leaps into a killer who's holding a single mom and her young daughter hostage. The serial killer is in "the waiting room" at the compound where all the time travel stuff is at. Magically he pulls a gun on Al and escapes. Big question here is how he could even GET a gun considering any weapon he might have been holding before leaping would have been in Sam's possession not his. No one else at the compound is armed except security (and they weren't around in the waiting room) so we get this whole BS chase in which Al goes after the guy while Gushie (played by the late great Dennis Wolfberg) acts as Sam's holographic companion during the episode. Then Al, after he corners the bad guy at a hooker's apartment, gets shot and - what a coinky-dink - is wearing a bulletproof vest! Aargh!!!
  14. AWWW! Those designs are such a vivid childhood memory! RIP Mr. Coker.
  15. Sorry, I double checked. It wasn't Pat who played Mother Dunbar. It was the late Marcia Lewis, another character actress. Apologies.
  16. For me it was seeing her onstage in "Annie" playing Miss Hannigan on Broadway! She was awesome in the role! It's a shame she wasn't called back to do the role for the 1982 film version, but I guess TPTB didn't think her name was big enough for a marquee. I'll also remember her as Mother Dunbar - the ferocious sorority den mother on Happy Days who gets a passionate kiss from none other than The Fonz during a panty raid! "Come back Slick!!" Of course she also played Shirley's mom, Lily on Laverne and Shirley. I would have loved to have seen more appearances as that character. She also played Doris Day’s matchmaking sister in With Six You Get Eggroll (1968). I think that woman was everywhere - we just didn't know it! Thought I'd add this: Pat Carroll along with Johnny Carson, on Password.
  17. They seem to have already done that in this episode! Better to let it go as is, I don't think there's anything they can do after sending them to 1955. More 30 year old HS students?
  18. FWIW - FETV will be playing a marathon of Leave it To Beaver episodes in honor of the passing of Tony Dow.
  19. IIRC, Penny's mom was P. Baxter (Past Piper) and she had Piper's power to freeze.
  20. Agreed. Barney Miller dealt with things most shows up to that point casually ignored. During the episode, "The Hero" (1975) Barney consoles Chano, who killed two bank robbers who were holding several people hostage. It was the first time I had ever seen a character shoot a bad guy and having to wrestle emotionally with the fallout. In the same episode, Det. Yemana rings up the point of cops on TV always shooting the bad guys and why they never seemed to have a problem. Barney replies, they weren't around when the lights came back on.
  21. Pepperidge Farm remembers. As someone who works in the media, it sickens me that they just parrot what other outlets release. Still, I'm very sorry to hear about Tony Dow as for a generation he was the big brother we wish we had.
  22. Agreed! A younger Penny story would have taken place circa WW2, although I would have been amenable if a younger actress had been used to portray a teenage Patty in the 60s (say 19-20 years of age). I cannot see our Penny behaving as she did in the 60s! She would have been much more worldly wise than that. I CAN believe she would have been very much in love with her first husband Allen and perhaps all her subsequent relationships soured in comparison (although I liked the idea that most of them would have croaked because Penny was too stubborn to die!).
  23. The 20s was often about spiritualism and such (which is one reason why Harry Houdini made it one of his missions to expose frauds conducting seances). We know at least some of the guests at the Manor speakeasy knew the cousins could cast spells or curses: Past Phoebe: Shall I curse someone for you? Party Guest: Maybe later! We also saw Past Phoebe also used a crystal ball for possible divination purposes. It would have been interesting to have seen more of that part of the family's life. The 60s could have been seen as a drug induced haze by some, since like the 20s, some people were hung up on spiritualism and reaching a higher plane.
  24. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sorvino back in the early 90s when I was working at the MGM hotel. It was in a gift shop with a Wizard of Oz theme (and a expensive glass recreation of the Emerald City as the center piece - cost at the time was about 10K!). Mr. Sorvino and his buddies sauntered in and made everyone laugh! One of my coworkers was from Glasgow, Scotland, so they had a funny contest of accents! He loved to imitate Scotty from Star Trek!! He also belted out a lovely acapella rendition of "Over the Rainbow"! I almost forgave him for leaving L&O it was so good! More than a decade later, I was working at the TV station, and Mr. Sorvino was an in studio guest (promoting some artwork that was going on display locally). I was running the prompter, and after he arrived he looked at me and said, "I remember you!!". I was so flattered!! He really was nice guy!
  25. It's possible Patty's favorite aunt was just close to her and Grams. Probably helped both learn magic and expanding the BOS. As for how they arrived in SF, I tried to reconcile that the family came from MA to help good magic flourish out west (as her mother, Charlotte mentioned her coven was to help good magic flourish in the New World). I also loved to think that the 1906 earthquake was in fact caused by a major battle between good and evil and the Warrens were involved in taking the Nexis in the name of good. I was disappointed we never got a storyline like this. The Warrens (or at least one branch) lived in SF at least since 1906 although it's possible they may have been there since the 1890s when the cousins were born. We should have seen some family branch from back east - I'd hate to think they all died fighting evil or never kept in touch with Penny's side of the family. It could have been interesting to see a cousin with a different power (like Past Prue's ice powers) because another witch family intermarried with them. Even the definition of having a Nexis fits the definition of homes all over the world. It could have been fun to see other branches of either The Warrens or other witch families with a Nexis of their own in other states. Admittedly I'm old fashioned so I always considered it a given that Charlotte and Melinda were married before conceiving their daughters. Largely, because that was the culture at the time. It wasn't unusual for some women to keep their maiden names or at least use them as a middle name for their child (John Smith married Judy Jones and their daughter is named Samantha Jones Smith). It's still common in Latin cultures today. I can see Charlotte and Melinda having been widowed at some point. Single women IRL were frequent targets in the Salem Witch Trials because their men were expected to own the property they held and those who had no father/son/ brother/husband were singled out to take their land. Melinda could have traveled to Salem to marry her future husband or she married him already and they were going to Salem for a new life. She becomes a widow after Prudence is born and decides to raise her alone, has an affair with Matthew Tate, is betrayed, died, and hoped someone would take pity on her and take care of her daughter (which would have been a big risk to take because at that time since not every family was willing to take on another mouth to feed, especially if they weren't even a blood relation).
