A Case Of The Mondays: Vent Your Work Spleen Here
magicdog replied to potatoradio's topic in Everything Else
My guess is they want to know if you're concerned enough to correct something if you notice it or are about consistency. Some people can't stand seeing the tilted picture frame and MUST straighten it. I probably would have said I keep my clocks in different time zones - so I know what time it is for those I love living in different parts of the world!! Personally, I think these assessments aren't all that. If recruiters/employers want to know why good help is hard to find - they should check a mirror. I think they are their own worst enemy. -
Considering the low scores from viewers, I don't know if this is because of morbid curiosity or the YT reviewers who are more entertaining in trashing it than the show itself.

In a way this reminded me of the movie, Mr. Holland's Opus, in which a married couple have a child who turns out to be deaf. Meanwhile, the father (Mr. Holland) is a music teacher at a local HS and also is writing a grand symphony. Naturally, he would want his family to be able to hear it and know music as he does, but his son would never know music at all beyond perhaps vibration and maybe bass tones (much of the film takes place in the 60s and 70s before technology improved for the deaf). Maybe even if his son had normal hearing he wouldn't be the musician Mr. Holland was, but it hurts just the same. In a way it's like being a doctor (or other profession) and hoping your child will be the next in the family - following in your footsteps as you followed your fathers', only to find out it can't or won't happen. You'll get over it, but it is disappointing at first. Doesn't mean he doesn't love his son. I have learned ASL and briefly studied deaf culture (and spoke to people who were both deaf and CODAs) and to me, it would seem many in the deaf community are very clannish. They speak a language relatively few people speak and they like it that way. Your husband's aunt is a notable exception. To me, if the child were born with a hole in its heart, would the [birth mother] demand the child not have surgery to fix it and live a more normal life? Or demand the child live about as long as such a defect would allow? No one would want the child to suffer from a problem that is fixable. Same with cleft palates and other things. Before ASL was common, deaf children were frequently trained orally, so they could fit in better with the majority of society. They could speak and be understood and be part of the world at large. ASL to some degree took that away. Not every deaf person can wear a cochlear implant - there are limits which are evaluated, but who knows what could come down the pike in the future?

She may not be writing the scripts per se, but she is certainly influencing them. As a producer, she has that ability and her writers are likely on the same train she is.

IMO, I don't recommend this series. The first episode told me all I needed to know it's not my cup of tea and quite frankly, I think it's an insult to viewers regardless if they are SD fans or not. I get a hell of a lot more entertainment from YT reviewers on this show than the 22 minutes I saw. As for your question, IMO, this was not a SD show so much as a show with the SD characters label slapped on it. I have read elsewhere (too lazy to link) that WB forbade the use of SD himself (which reminds me of those Bat embargoes with various Bat Family characters in Batman related cartoons). It's just as well because I think this show is a travesty. If anything, this is a Mindy Kaling self insert project and little more. This could easily be the same show just with different names/character designs. They wanted name recognition. Reminds me of that Jem film abomination a few years back - a film that had character names we knew but nothing otherwise related to the show or its premise. Scooby Doo, Mystery Incorporated did a much better job at re-examining the gang and taking things in a more mature direction. I'm not saying that can't be done again but not this show.

Call The Waaaaambulance: Favorite Crying Moments On TV
magicdog replied to danderson400's topic in Everything Else TV
Just caught a classic sad moment in Emergency. In the episode, "Frequency" (1973), Johnny and Roy are called to an accident scene near the freeway. A motorcycle cop was hit by a car. Turns out it's a friend of Johnny's named Drew. They hadn't seen each other in a few months but carry on a bit of conversation as they try to treat him. Treatment is complicated when the biophone is tied up for a brief while because another paramedic team is using it for a heart patient. When they finally get through, Drew tells Johnny to please tell his wife Pam that she was the best thing that ever happened to him. Johnny tells him not to worry and they'd get him to the hospital. Drew falls unconscious. Later at Rampart Drew succumbs to his injuries, never regaining consciousness. Johnny takes it upon himself to break the new to Pam and their young daughter (who looks about 5). The look on Johnny's face alone tells Pam everything she needs to know and has some relief in knowing Drew apparently didn't suffer. I was hoping Johnny would have told her what Drew's last words were, but we hear Pam telling Johnny how Drew used to say that Johnny got the best end of the deal (being a carefree single guy). We then see Dr. Early and Roy coming up on the scene, but upon seeing the obvious sad moment before them, they opt to walk away in respectful silence. -
I suppose Mitch Vogel was added to generate younger viewers. Adam/Pernell Roberts was gone, Hoss (Dan Blocker) died in 1972 so all that was left was an aging Little Joe and even he was ready to move onto his next project (LHOTP). Guy Williams definitely would have made a great replacement for Pernell Roberts (at least he had Lost In Space as a consolation prize afterward). The problem was Roberts wanted out, but the rest of the cast talked him into doing one more season. Guy Williams seemed like an afterthought. The main cast shut him out and did treat him rather shabbily. When Adam was courting the young widow with a daughter, the idea was to have Adam leave the series by marrying her and leaving the Ponderosa. To kill two birds with one stone, William's character falls in love with her out of the blue, they eloped, left town and left the show!!

Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals
magicdog replied to OtterMommy's topic in Everything Else TV
I suggested it to my producer as a story (FOX send file of her) but the answer I got was, "Who? Never heard of her!" Uncultured whelp! I always think of the episode of The Flintstones when Fred is having a dream sequence of being in Italy on a gondola. A bunch of admiring ladies are watching from a bridge trying to get his attention and the sign below them read, "Danger! Lo-Lo Bridgeda!".- 4.2k replies

Agreed! I had thought him taking over the DAs office after Cole was forced to run would have been the perfect way to reintroduce the character as a potential threat.

I see the show is running on Syfy in a block of episodes on Sunday mornings ("SYFY Rewind"). They're in the middle of Season 1. Interesting the theme song, "How Soon Is Now" and the closing instrumental theme are not present, replaced with generic mystical music. It must be bad if Syfy won't spring for the theme! ITA! I had hoped that Cal Green would have made an appearance and this plot point revisited. I had posited years ago that Green was the subject of an interview at the Bay Mirror and Phoebe and Paige encounter him. Phoebe obviously recognized him and the circumstances of MB, but of course Paige wouldn't. Paige would be asked out by Green who would try to take advantage of her (in MB he murdered someone, so it wouldn't be a stretch if he was a rapist perhaps as well). Phoebe has to remember her lessons from MB and still be there for Paige. Unfortunately, the sisters weren't much better than the MB future version of themselves after season 6.

A Case Of The Mondays: Vent Your Work Spleen Here

Just found out my former (and best) News Director just died! He was the one who held the position longest at the station - 10 years (before him NDs lasted about a year!) and helped make our station the ratings powerhouse it is today. He was unceremoniously dumped when there was a change in management. He was also the one who favored me to be Assistant News Director (until Bitcheroo took it after he'd left). Scarier still was that he was only 62!- 5.4k replies

That's horrible! You could sue those jerks for that if you have it recorded! The woman had the nerve to admit it! Reminds me of when Bitcheroo told me (in front of my immediate supervisor no less) that I wasn't allowed to have ideas! Speaking of, we got called into a meeting - good news - that according to a study by corporate, our station ranks 52% as the channel locals prefer. Pretty good when you consider the market (2 million people) and the the competition were ranked as 14%, 15%, and 17%. Naturally, this was a meeting that could have been summarized in an email. Bitcheroo was busy holding up the numbers on pieces of paper and nodding because she thinks that makes her a useful prop. -
Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

Just a hint: Rinse the fruit in the sink using cold filtered water and hydrogen peroxide. (make sure the HP has no stabilizers in it! This is a great brand) Fill the sink (or a large bowl) with the water and add about 1/2 cup of HP and gently wash and rinse. The oxygen helps keep the fruit (or veggies) fresher longer and helps kill anything that might be on it. -

Toxic? Firstly, I know what it's like to lose a job (though at least it didn't happen at Christmas time). Yes, that meant being unemployed for almost a year before I found work again and living at home with my parents. They knew I'd land on my feet eventually and I was thankful they were there and didn't berate me for having to do so. Secondly, yes, you have every right to be upset and cry about what you lost (or be pissed enough to throw something breakable across the room). My point is to not wallow in it. It's a very easy thing to happen to people. Give yourself some time to "grieve" (A week?) and then swing for the fences. When the COVID curtain came down I was scared I'd lose my job and was especially afraid when the jab was being forced down people's throats as a condition of employment. I already decided how to handle it but my parents are no longer here to be my buffer and I have to be prepared for anything if the subject ever comes up again before my side hustle starts becoming a moneymaker. However, I also know that I cannot let these monsters win. I will not allow them to defeat me or destroy my dreams. I don't know if you're ready my posts on the Assistant News Director Bitcheroo, but believe me she has done everything she possibly can to make me miserable and try to get me to quit. She is a bully who deserves to have her next employee meeting in the ladies restroom, but I won't let that witch get the better of me. I tell myself that I will defeat her one day; I will make more money than her, travel on a private jet to visit my family and even outlive her!! Yes, there are jerks out there in charge who shouldn't be but one day, I'll be riding high enough so I won't have to care anymore. This is how my soul chooses to survive. That is my message when I said to think positively. -

@Cloud9Shopper, I'm sorry you're going through this when the holidays are upon us. The timing couldn't be worse. However, thinking like this won't change anything. You must think positively. Keep in mind employers won't be doing much hiring until January so take some time to breathe and prepare what you need to go on the job hunt. Can your employed relatives help you? If not, try the usual job sites like indeed and new job boards like gab. something has to turn up eventually. Saw this after I posted. Very true. In many third world countries, if you lose your job, you go home to die of starvation because there are no other options. At least you have that much. -

So was it an aortic aneurism or a gunshot that killed him? Strange. -
Used to watch that show with Dad. I liked that the reenactments were set up like a cop drama (the ridiculous speed editing I see in most reenactments of current shows is distracting and drives me up a wall!) and if you were switching channels, you might have thought you landed on one! I remember so many real life stories which very compelling! The NH cop, who saved a teen girl from committing suicide on a bridge (she actually accompanied him for the epilogue and we got to see her face, but subsequent reruns were blurred), the Sonny Grosso story (real life French Connection cop who also created the show) reenacting an amusing story set in Harlem in 1963 trying to bust a local dealer, the pregnant detective who made a dangerous bust, a pair of female cop partners who referred to themselves as the real life Cagney & Lacey, and Arco, the K9 who helped save his handler's life. A couple of now well known actors even got their start on the show!

RATS!! So sad to hear about George Newall!! I watched every Schoolhouse Rock every Saturday morning and every now and then, it helped me pass a test. To this day all those songs still roll around my head. Indeed! -

I am fully convinced no one want to make anything better. Either that or I am cursed to be an office Cassandra - I give the world what it needs to hear only to be ignored. Case in point: Producers. For years, producers and APs would stack the show (add stories) and it was their responsibility to order the video and place the supers (times when to add names of people in the story) into the scripts. For some reason, this has changed and whenever a script is entered (along with a source), they haven't been putting supers into it until later. If you have time to paste a script into the body of a story, you have time to add the supers for it. That way, When we edit it, we can put in the times for those supers. Now, we're editing the video but there are no supers. We send the video but we get a message later about putting super times in. When our supervisor asked how this can be fixed, I told him thus: Me: "We used to have producers put supers in at the same time as scripts. If they went back to doing this, there will be no issues". Him: "Maybe you could just find a way to mark it or wait to send it until they add it or keep checking back to see if supers were added". Me: GRRRR! -

Celebrity trainer Eric Fleishman died suddenly at age 53. It was on Thanksgiving no less! Another link: https://www.tmz.com/2022/11/28/eric-the-trainer-fleishman-died-celebrity-trainer/ -
It seems to be a ripoff of the "house" series from PBS. There was 1900 House, Regency House, 1940s House, and Frontier House. Those are great studies in living in another time period (1900 House in particular since despite the lovely fashions and Late Victorian/Early Edwardian touches, it was a big adjustment to live as our great grandparents had). 70s House seems to be a cakewalk in comparison, as someone who was just a child at the time but remembers it fairly well. At worst you had to find info in a book and unless you had cable, you only had a handful of channels.
