  1. I wondered this myself. If he didn't do what he was accused of doing, surveillance or eyewitness accounts could have exonerated him. Although, if it turns out he had a public defender, he might have been told to plead no contest since it would only be 2 years and he's be back with his family again. I was annoyed when Little Amy threw the rock. Not smart, although if I had been the cop, I might have let it slide under the circumstances and just had a chat with her as an aside. Speaking of Amy insulting the musical legacy of Billy Joel: BLASPHEMER! When Cop Amy was sleeping at Joe's house, why in his room?? A little disrespectful of his mom I think - like she couldn't sleep in Celeste's old room? Amusing how Eric and Mrs. Diaz right away figured out what happened! Part of me felt a bit of schadenfreud when Mrs. Diaz not only chewed her out for sleeping with her husband (even if it was just once) but for wanting to bury the watch rather than giving it back and letting the son have it. She can get it back before the coffin is shipped to DC. I didn't expect Amy to come clean to Joe about the affair; I half expected it to be blackmail from Mrs. Diaz - especially since she's taking her hubby's seat. I still think she is the one who had Carrie killed. I'm curious how they'll work things out. I was also surprised at Jenny's dad being a bit nice to Joe and even admitting he was wrong!! Also generous to help Frank out. Let's hope he accepts. I hated Nurse Jenny here, first trying to excuse being a single mom to her professor (wait, I thought she and Joe patched things up?). Yes she was a bit harsh, but lots of people get their educations while being parents (single or otherwise) and having day jobs. I hate pathetic excuses. I had a giggle at the professor telling her that she and Madeline Albright went to college together, and Professor graduated at the top of her class!! In the Cop Joe universe, interesting that Eric and Amy tried to get pregnant but no luck. Maybe Amy does have some physical issues that keep her from conceiving or carrying to term. She miscarried twice in the Rocker universe.
  2. It seems t refer to a drunken toast Frank made at the even, followed by taking a swing at the bartender. Seems to be indicative he had a drinking problem in which he did not get help for in the Nurse timeline.
  3. I think we may have a new slang phrase: "Uncle Billy Bullshit"!! I enjoy the film and it's ultimate message (that a man can make a positive difference in his little world) is still a good one. It always bugged me that we never got to see Potter get his comeuppance (the SNL skit notwithstanding). I recall reading he was supposed to drop dead, but Capra had to cut it for time. Unusual given The Code at the time. I agree with this. It would make sense for Mary to have married Sam Wainright if George hadn't been there. He was pursuing her and her mother obviously preferred him over George at the time. Believe it or not, I can imagine her giving the speech Tracy got in The Philadelphia Story!! Essentially saying you're asking too much for your husband to be faithful to you, and the money makes it all OK.
  4. That's good and all but when is the jerk going to apologize personally to you and when is this jerk going to get fired for his bad behavior? Or get the company sued (hint, hint)?
  5. So sad to hear of Stockwell's passing! He was in so many projects over the years and one of the few child actors who was able to grow into his own as an accomplished adult actor. He'll always be Al to me (from Quantum Leap) but it's fun to watch old TV shows from the 60s and 70s and see him as a fledgling adult actor. Godspeed Mr. Stockwell!
  6. Well, after an attaboy for The Millionaire in the "Hell Yeah" section, we're back to a Hell No this week! In, The Rod Matthews Story (1958), the titular millionaire was living in isolation in the Solomon Islands. He took to this life after having been publicly disgraced in a military court. One of his cohorts lied about his actions and the damage that came from those actions. It turned out the cohort was responsible but was out to protect his own behind. This lead to a court martial, dishonorable discharge for Matthews and even his own parents disowning him. He also caused the breakup of Matthews' relationship with his fiancee and she ends up marrying him instead. After he receives the money, he returns to civilization in the hopes of getting even with the cohort, named John McKuehn. Turns out McKuehn relocated to the DC area and is a political big shot. The woman McKuhen stole is now dead. He also has a younger sister, Nancy who becomes Matthews' method to get close to his target. Along the way, he does start to fall for her, but still plans to expose McKuehen. He pretends to represent him to a Congressman and offers him a bribe. The Congressman keeps a recorder in his office for such events and after rejecting the bribe, he puts the word out. Later, Matthews comes to McKuehen's house, and finds him in a wheelchair. Surprised, he asked what happened. Car accident. He also thought it was a form of payback for the lie he told in court years ago. He claims to have been doing good works since then to make up for it. Matthews forgives McKuehen almost on the spot, plans to call the papers about the bribe, and of course plans to continue wooing Nancy. The end. NO!! First of all, this is DC we're talking about! If a man had no trouble lying in a military court to save his own hide and ruin another man's reputation to the point in which his own family reject him, it's not much of a stretch to continue that in a political arena. Sure, they could have had a "Count of Monte Cristo" set up in which Matthews' quest for vengeance is either sweet or sour, but making McKuehen a victim just because was was in a wheelchair? Not buying that!
  7. I had a doozy of an interaction that made me wonder which side of the looking glass I was on: Usually Producer "M" worked on stacking the 5 and 6am shows (chooses stories and helps write scripts). He was off this particular day so Producer, "K" was filling in. K has been one of the weak links in the proverbial chain but we usually can handle it. Often she producers later hours of the show. She tends to be slower than the rest (despite working for nearly a year at this) and often makes last minute changes because the show is too light (not enough stories in it) or missing valuable information (source video, etc.). I noticed the 5 am show was only half stacked and partially written - and it was nearing 4:30! I alerted the producers via WEBEX (an instant messaging system). Many times I don't know who's in charge of what (I may know who's producing a show but everyone tends to collaborate) and the WEBEX was set on the AM producers and editors setting. This means only myself, my edit partner and those producing the AM show would see it. That limits it to about 6 people total. After I sent the message, K replies, "Seriously?" I replied, "Seriously.". Was she not aware of how her show looked like so late in the hour??? Eventually the show got filled in and I went on with editing. Towards the end of my shift I get a visit from the Executive Producer (M-2) who says that I should have messaged only her because I embarrassed K about her goof. I told her the show was not ready (why, I didn't know, that's for K to answer) and that I needed to put the word out to those working on it. It's nothing the entire station could see. She told me I made K cry! I expected further flak from my supervisor but for a change, I hear nothing. Most likely because I was right and K was screwing up and then "has a sad" when exposed for said screwup! There's no crying in AM news!! If you get a sad because you can't handle your job, then maybe it's time to find another line of work! I have more to cry over than she does, but I keep myself grounded and keep it professional.
  8. For once, instead of a "Hell No!" moment from The Millionaire, I have one for this forum: In "The Hugh Waring Story" (1957), the titular millionaire receives his check while in prison. On death row! With just days before he's scheduled to die for murdering his wife!! We see in flashback that he had a rocky marriage and asked her for a divorce (keep in mind no fault divorce was not a thing yet and unless one of the parties made a 6 week long trip to Nevada, it likely wouldn't be granted without agreement from both parties). The wife refuses. She apparently vanishes without a trace and the couples' maid finds her packed suitcase in a closet and thinks it odd she didn't take it with her. Due to a series of circumstances only Perry Mason could have cleared, Waring is convicted of murder despite no body having been found. He's insisting he never laid a hand on her and insists she must still be alive but in hiding. Naturally no one believes him and his fate seems sealed. Mike Anthony after giving the check over, finds the whole thing strange and decides to read the police reports and court transcripts. He believes Waring's story and tells his boss (the billionaire who makes these million dollar gifts possible) about it. He tells him he can give him the time needed to save Warings' life and clear him. He speaks to the governor about delaying the execution. Later, we see newspaper headlines about the execution having been completed and the million dollars Waring had were to go to a charity since no other family was found. Suddenly the wife turns up in [crocodile] tears. She tells everyone she wasn't harmed, just in hiding in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and couldn't be reached. She didn't want her husband to die but she'd be happy to claim the million for herself. Then while talking, Hugh walks up behind her and tells her the jig is up!! The newspaper story was a plant to lure her out and prove once and for all that he did not murder her and she in fact confess she's set him up to look like he had!! She gets lead away and Waring gets to enjoy his money and freedom!!
  9. Hard to say. It may be because: 1)Joe was a music major and to a practical doctor type, that may not be a good path to making a living. 2) He had a friends with benefits relationship with his daughter. 3) Said benefits got his daughter knocked up and derailed (or potentially derailed) her legal dreams.
  10. As an ex-New Yorker, I must agree. It would have made more sense for Joe to have become a cop if he married Jenny. He would have received good benefits and salary decent (keep in mind NYC/State income tax which along with NY's cost of living would eat quite a bit of that). They upped retirement option minimum to about 25 years. If he lived with his mom (while married to Jenny and raising Chris) that would mitigate expenses somewhat. As far as I know they don't get extra bennies based on arrest numbers (never heard of such a thing!). However, they are subject to the Union and city contracts, which could affect pay and benefits. I have a family friend who retired from NY LEO and his medical benefits were cut drastically since he retired.
  11. Eric did mention that Jenny ghosted them both since graduation. Joe could have returned her call since it was obvious she made several calls and at least one voicemail. Even if Joe wanted/needed alone time, he still could have called her back in a day or two. Perhaps Jenny's dad intervened and told her to stop calling in two of the timelines. He obviously has no love lost for Joe (for whatever reason).
  12. Question is why Jenny didn't continue her path in the Nurse timeline? It wasn't much different than the cop timeline in that she was married and had a child with special needs, but still managed to finish her law degree, pass the bar and eventually join the city attorney's office. Why not do the same when she was married to Joe? Did having Joe as her husband inhibit her in a way the other guy didn't?
  13. Ditto! I really wanted to see him tell the dad off! I have trouble buying this since he had no problem blowing Jenny off in two timelines and fell in love in Amy overnight! But she tried for a whole 24 hours to tell him the news!!! Seriously, it wouldn't have been hard to at least text, "I'm pregnant". At least we now know how she came to meet her husband in the Cop timeline who is raising Lucas as his own. I had thought she would have met him later. Interesting her mom was sick and presumably dying at the time of the pregnancy. Nice to finally met his big sister, Celeste. It would seem she does a lot of travelling so we may see her pop up again at some point. We also see Uncle Frank definitely had a drinking problem (or at least one that escalated 10 years ago), and why in Nurse timeline, he went off the rails to Skid Row.
  14. Maybe it would be better to have it set in the 60s again. You can have all the fun, cool fashions and all the un-PC fun of the older films without the modern issues. The Man From Uncle film was pretty good at nailing the era.
  15. I loved seeing Pat take action on this! The uncle deserved it! Desperate times and all that. Even Pat has his limits. Since no one other than Pat and Courtney witnessed the beating, it's possible for the uncle to withdraw the complaint - unless Rick confessed. Had to love watching Shiv do her thing with Yolanda! The ultimate mean girl getting her former romantic rival to join the fight. I do wonder if there will be a redemption arc for her or not next season. I'm assuming she was talking to Artemis on the phone to join the upcoming battle.
  16. OK, get ready for a volcano! This week on The Millionaire (The Bob Fielding Story from 1957), Fielding is a hotel clerk who makes a meager living but takes care of his aging widowed mother. He is pseudo engaged to his girlfriend whom he wants to marry but she too has to take care of her aging widowed mom and they seemed doomed to have to wait to make their dreams of wedded bliss come true. His mother approaches him and shows him a pamphlet of a nice elderly living facility she and the girlfriend's mom can move into, but they'd need a deposit of about $3500.00. Keep in mind, that in 1957, the average salary was about 3K (and a lot of working stiffs made a lot less than that a year!) and other than $300 bucks in the bank in savings, Fielding just doesn't have that kind of money. While working, Fielding meets a hotel guest who happens to be an old friend from his army days in WW2. In fact, Fielding saved his life on the battlefield and got 2 slugs for his trouble. Fielding tells his friend, Eddie about his troubles. Eddie suggests he join him in his room for a poker game he's organizing with "a couple of guys from Chicago" (hinting they may be mobsters with The Outfit) and he can use his $300 to buy in and with his awesome skills, he'll win the money he needs is no time. Fielding agrees. They start the game and sure enough, Fielding wins the money he needs. Then the Chicago guys get annoyed and then tell him they'd let him keep his winnings, but when they want, they'll come looking for him and take everything he owns at some undetermined point in the future. Fielding is scared, but it's not like he has much to lose. Then he gets a visit from Mike Anthony and his heart sinks. Now, he's afraid they'll take his million! After he sends the moms off to the home, he marries his love and explains what he's afraid of. They decide to leave town, first to honeymoon in SF, then off to Europe. While in Italy, Fielding is scared "they" will come after him and take everything. He becomes paranoid wondering which person "out there" could be from Chicago to claim the money. He contacts Eddie and tells him to give the guys 5K each (20K in all) and hopes the men will be satisfied with the "debt". Eddie contacts him and says the men think since he was able to give them that much , he certain has more, and ask for 100k! Fielding really starts freaking out. His wife says maybe they should just talk to the men and straighten this out. Eventually, he does locate the men (how I have no clue) and asks if they'd just leave him be. The guys all look at one another and tell him they were only kidding and after he left the game, they told Eddie to tell him they were just fooling around and he has nothing to worry about! In fact, they never even got the 5K Fielding gave to Eddie!! This means Eddie kept the 20K and had the temerity to ask for 100K more!!! Worse still, the ending only has Fielding relieved he was off the hook (which he never really was on in the first place), and we never see Eddie get his comeuppance! I was hoping there would have been some reverse trick to play on Eddie for what he did - but NO! He got 20K consequence free! No shame either! There was also a wasted subplot in which the old folks home went bankrupt and mom was going to end up on the streets - so Fielding buys it and saves the residents. I think they should have used that time to give Eddie what he deserved!
  17. Yes. In the Cop timeline he mentioned he was married and had Joe's cousin by the time he was 28. They were needling Joe about getting married and settling down.
  18. Good possibility but he did have a wife and [grown] daughter so wouldn't they have helped him?
  19. In the Nurse timeline, I'm quite sure Amy had nothing to do with Bobby. She and Eric live in NJ and own a restaurant there. In the Cop timeline, Eric is married to Mallory and they own a restaurant as well, but in NY. Cop timeline Frank mentioned some drugs and other things didn't go to the evidence locker and his badge was on the line. It's possible Frank in at least 2 of the timelines (possibly all three) he was depressed about losing his brother on 9/11 and other stresses of the job and began to drink/use to kill the pain. In the Nurse timeline it would seem either Bobby didn't choose to help him out of trouble or Frank chose to take his punishment and didn't accept help from him. Then his life falls apart, he ends up on Skid Row, and doesn't turn up until now. He still did dishonest things in all three timelines. He still cheated on his wife with Carrie and still paid her off. Likely he had other affairs. Since Amy was not on his staff in the Nurse timeline, maybe he didn't take up with anyone else yet - or it was a different staffer we have yet to meet. He seemed very much humbled by his assassination attempt and injuries, so he might seem a bit more principled, but I still think there's something around the corner.
  20. As of Season 1, Episode 6: Nurse Joe: We learn Chris plans on becoming the first disabled astronaut and gave a pep talk to Congressman Diaz about continuing to work in politics despite his injuries. We also learn Uncle Frank is still alive, apparently living on the streets for some years. He was able to access a key to Joe's apartment because Joe keeps it in the same place. He asks Joe for help. Cop Joe: Uncle Frank was in trouble previously (drugs or other confiscated items not having made it to the evidence locker) and was facing an end to his career but was let off the hook by Diaz when he was the DA. He owes his career to him and buried the evidence in the investigation of Carrie Coleman's death. Luckily, Joe had a picture of it on his phone and gave it to Jenny. This lead to the arrest of Diaz at his home for misappropriation of campaign funds, and it could lead to something else. By Joe making the arrest happen, he and Frank have a falling out and he takes up drinking despite having quit. Rocker Joe: Joe finally tells Amy about Zeke and his college affair with Jenny. While she doesn't admit to the one night stand she had with Diaz, she most certainly regrets it since Joe was not cheating on her and she was played for a fool. During Joe's concert to introduce Amy's campaign, this timeline's version of Wayne Coleman appears in the crowd and shoots. He kills Diaz, and seems to have wounded Amy (how severely is unknown). Coleman is shot by police, but it is not mentioned if he was killed (as he was in Cop Joe's timeline) or wounded. We also get a glimpse of Zeke's family, he has three sisters (whether all are adopted or fosters is not made clear). We meet his adoptive dad but not the mother.
  21. In the episode when Jenny and Joe see him exit the school, we see him being placed into a black pickup and there's a place in the back which his chair is secured. You can't have a chair bound person without some sort of set up. The cost of the van is about on par - those things are expensive but very helpful. Hah!! I love this!
  22. As we saw at the end of the next episode,
  23. As soon as Rocker Joe told Eric about Zeke's existence, he did tell him to tell Amy ASAP. Frank did the same. She was definitely annoyed at the latter. Even the poem Diaz gave her was identical to the one he gave Carrie! It's like all the girlfriends got the same gift. Everything that happened up to before he met Amy happened in all timelines. He had Carrie working for him and had an affair with her and paid her 60K. Granted, In Nurse Joe timeline, Amy is married to Eric so he couldn't have an affair with her (since she wasn't working with his campaign either). He probably had several affairs. The question is where all this is going. I think Nurse timeline Diaz has been humbled by his shooting and disability, something that didn't happen in the other timelines. I half expected the classic, "Glory, Glory Hallelujah" was going to play during that speech! Call me a cynic, but when I was 9-10, boys thought girls were icky and were not trying to impress them like a boy of 12-13. Have things changed with boys these days? They act like the kid is a tween.
  24. I thought that too! If three other hamsters were lost before this, that means the kids shouldn't be handling small animals! Class pets usually stayed at school anyway (unless someone was needed to feed and water them on weekends/school holidays), but I think even a janitor could have done that. Glad that Rocker Joe finally cleared the air with Amy about Zeke. Convenient that Bobby Diaz dies this time. I knew this universe's version of Wayne Coleman would show up sooner or later. Finally we know Nurse Joe's Uncle Frank exists! I thought he died, but apparently, just went to Skid Row. Sounds like in at least 2 timelines, he hit the booze following his brother's death. I was bummed to see he was being Diaz's bitch in the Cop Joe timeline and was willing to bury evidence. They try to make Diaz almost a saint in the Nurse timeline. He still slept with Carrie Coleman (and who knows how many other women) and still paid her off when she left. The only difference is what the timelines made certain opportunities possible. One clue is that in the Nurse timeline, when Carrie's death was announced, he said he didn't know she was dead. If true, he may not have killed her or ordered a hit, but someone did. My money's on the wife.
  25. I know those videos!! Much of our file video is years old, we can only deal with what FOX or CNN sends us (or what we shoot locally). That's why I had so much flack from my News Director over pre-covid video (people not wearing masks, etc.). They didn't want to know there was a world before covid! They've backed off a bit and now make allowances if I burn "FILE" into the video.
