  1. My favorite part of the episode was the dinner party of Frank, Liza and Glenn. You could tell they were old friends with a lot of history. I was surprised to see that Frank was such a good cook.
  2. Let me know how! I've actually come to like the show, except for the annoying rooomates, now that Axle is starting to assert hmnself. I've got to admit, though, the main reason I'm watching is for their accents, which I totally love.
  3. I have to admit that I think this show has become way too predictable. Of course Amanda was not going to shoot stahma and Datak while they were tied up. Of course the terraforming threat would be averted, with at least one major city terra formed so there could be some (bad) CGI. Of course the only black guy dies. Even Doc Yewell lost her snark. I guess I'm just disappointed because I thought the season started really well. I'll be back next season only for thenStahma/Datak/Rafe road trip. I do love all 3 of them.
  4. I thought the show had an interesting premise, and I was excited about watching it, despite my apprehensions about Halle B. I know they needed a "big name" to get people to tune in, but I thought they could work around it. I guess not, Every week I like this show less and less. Molly is completely unbelievable as an astronaut (aren't they supposed to be competent and smart?) and John, even without the fugly cardigans, is stupid and unlikeable. The boy playing Ethan isn't bad, but he doesn't have enough personality for me to root for him, Julie is a sex-crazed idiot who set females in the workplace back for decades by her failure to rein in her hormones. The plot holes are GAPING, even for someone like me, who has a real low thresholds. I'm sick of "my baby" "my baby" We tried using that as a drinking game, but we were blotto way too soon. I guess a double episode was just a toxic dose. I'll watch until the end, though, because I'm pretty OCD.
  5. I hadn't thought of this, but it makes perfect sense.
  6. I hate to say this, but I'm pretty tired of Sonya, especially the way she's treating Hank. I know we're supposed to think that is one of the expressions of her Asbergers (or whatever), that she sees things strictly in black and white. That may have been the case last season, but this season seemed like she was making progress in dealing with social interactions. I haven't seen her do much investigative work this season, either. It seems like her role has really been downgraded to family drama (ie, relationship with Jack Dobbs) and pretty much everybody else on the show has advanced the plot by discovering things or taking some kind of action (or having action taken against them, of course).
  7. Is she even in this? I didn't recognize her, and I am a huge fan thanks to Southland. That was some finale - RIP Bobby, Danny and Eric. I really didn't see that coming at all, and I think it did a nice job of setting up the next season.* I don't understand why Terry I totally agree that Christine is an idiot, and I resent her screen time. I'd like to see more of the DA and his wife, or the Daddy smackdowns (Clark Peters vs Stanley Zale). Speaking of Mrs. DA (sorry, just think of her as NIa Long), what was she doing at the end? I couldn't really tell where she was. * will there be a next season? Has it been renewed?
  8. Wow, I totally didn't see that coming. Team Jamal for the win! Bassam really is totally incompetent. I don't know if the show has been renewed, but I would love to see another season of my favorites, Jamal, Leila and Tariq. I hope the rest of them (except for adorable Fauzi) are executed or exiled, starting with Molly, Remember Molly - you were the one who insisted on the trip. Totally shallow, but I really loved Leila's red suit. If I were taller (and thinner, richer and more elegant), I would actually buy it.
  9. I have to agree that this is REALLY confusing - I've watched both episodes now (thanks for he heads up about PRE being Episode #2) and I'm not really impressed. I picked up from the beginning that there was intrabody sharing going on - but by now I would have expected to know who/how etc. It seems that with only 8 episodes there needs to be some quick exposition - and some action beside Madison being threatening and James Frain killing people. I'm also confused by the flashbackforwards or whatever they are. In episode 2 - was that a dream John Simm was having about Amy? If so, why was she speaking (I assume) Russian?
  10. Man, I wish something good would happen to at least one of these characters, Well, in addition to the "husky" guy buying himself a girlfriend. My DVR cut out in the last minute or so - it was the guy (??) with the hat walking down a hallway. Did anything happen?
  11. Thank god that's over. One of the worst things for me: how totally wrong young Sookie was - not only a bad actress, but didn't even look or sound at all like Sookie. Or, was that intentional, and I was just missing the point?
  12. I agree that this episode was somewhat confusing - I didn't read the book upon which the series was based, but I also assume that these characters (Donna, Madison) were hosting the members of the secret society for a predetermined period - ie, perhaps the 9 is 9 years that Marcus gets to be in Madison. Or something. Two comments: (1) I liked seeing John Simm, but it would have been so awesome if his previous investigative experience had been in Manchester in the 1970s. (2) Any time someone is asked, "Who else knows about your research?" - the answer is NEVER "no one."
  13. I couldn't agree more. I got the impression during the Bassam/Tariq convo that the real reason Bassam was going through this whole coup business was simply to get back at Tariq. Certainly, that was the most expressive acting I've seen from Adam yet.
  14. Wow, am I really the only person watching this? That was a super episode - loved Neils Bohr, especially his impact on Liza W. It was hard on Frank, but it seems finally some good things are happening for his team: (1) the British guy is on board; (2) Charlie is closer to joining/being exiled to the implosion group.
  15. I like the show a lot, not only because I used to work in Phila. and still live in the area. I think it raises significant issues of family/race/class/abuse of power/death penalty etc. in an intelligent and thoughtful way. I think all the characters are fully established, although I truly can't stand Christine - totally one note, a zealot willing to do anything (such as clearly taking advantage of her loving grandmother) because the end justifies the means. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I really hope that she ends up in prison. The character that has developed the most, IMO, is Adam - I've enjoyed watching him become aware of the price of his success, and now having to decide the best way forward, both personally and professionally. Minor thing I really like: Adam looks and sounds somewhat like the current mayor of Phila., Mayor Nutter.
  16. I hate to say this, becuase there are a lot of actors in the pilot that I really like, but I thought it was dreadfully boring. Totally paint by numbers - there were absolutely no surprises at all, and the strip club thing was completely gimmicky and unrealistic. On the other hand, Ali Larter looked totally smoking, I realize that it was the pilot, with a lot of exposition and setting up, so I'll give it a few more weeks.
  17. I thought that was an awful episode, mainly because of Molly and son. I truly can't stand either of those characters, and I really do wish they will get on the plane and never be seen again. Best line: the one about the money for Jenna's shopping trip. I agree that was actually the most expressive delivery Barry's been able to accompliah yet. Although, when he and Leila hook up, maybe he can show some emotion. I really wish the show had shown us Jamal with his David Lee Roth hair. I'm still firmly on Team Jamal (yeah, his apology to Nusrat was lame, but at least he tried), but now I hope Tariq survives, because he's the only really competent chracter on the show.
  18. I've been watching this, but I am starting to wonder why. I get that it was a war situation, and the scientists were engaged in tremendously important work that directly impacted the number of casulaties, but the show is just so grim. I know every story needs a problem and Frank's group are the underdogs, but I wish that something positive - even a little thing - could go their way. I'm just tired of Frank being such an ass ALL THE TIME.
  19. Good episode - no kids, not much Molly, lots of Jamal and Leila. I have to admit that I am totally on Team Jamal, even with his violent, raping behaviour. At least he is funny, intelligent and fun to watch. OTOH, Bassam is naive, self-righteous and allowed himself to be totally outplayed by the Sheik. I had to laugh (sorry) when Jamal "helped" the Sheik in the bathroom. Of course, Molly would be the one to ruin things for him.
  20. If John is concerned about Ethan fitting in at school, dressing him in a bow tie (!) and sweater sure won' help.
  21. Another vote here for Spiral, a French law and order type show. I also want to mention Murdoch's Mysteries, a Canadian series set at the turn of the century. It's extremely well-written, the actors wre uniformly excellent and the humor is understated. A nice, light show that somehow manages to address serious, timely issues. I'm watching it through Acorn TV.
  22. While I agree that not everyone knows everything, that we each have areas of strength and weakness, I do believe that there just are some common areas that most people of at least some education (either formal or self taught) and/or experience should know. I can't think of any off hand, but those are the type of TS questions that are surprising to me. AFter all, these contestants had to go through a considerable process even just to appear on the show, so I do expect them to demonstrate a greater degree of knowledge than me or your typical person on the street. Of course, it may be that the particular area that they are most knowledgable in may not come up; but there are enough categories in each round that I would think someone could at least give a good guess. Of course, it's easy for me to say that I could have gotten a prticular TS - after all, I am not dealing with the pressure, and the physical aspects of appearing on the show. Everyone (ie. my husband and son) says I should try out, but with my (lack of) reflexes, I'd probably never ring in properly. I have the utmost respect for the contestants, even when they obviously screw up. I would never have gotten last night's FJ, although in hindsight it seems obvious. All I came up with was Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  23. A few minor observations: (1) Wow, those were some high heels the maids were wearing. (2) Fauzi (the reporter/Samira's father) is a very attractive man. He needs more screen time. Overall, I was somewhat disappointed by this episode. What really drew me into watching the series was the scene at the end of the first episode, where Barry was the one to execute that man, reinforced by his dying father's statement that "it shouold have been you." I know that was foreshadowing that Barry will gradually turn ino Bassam the Tyrant, episode by episode, but I wish they'd speed it up. Yes, we get that Jamal - carefully set up as the bad brother (raping, murdering, violent etc) is now more nuanced, may in fact be the "good" (or at least, better) brother. Jamal is intelligent, willing to try BArry's approach, and I think sincerely wants to be an enlightened, beloved ruler. I would like to see more Jamal (because he's a terrific actor), Leila, and Barry (and Fauzi, because I like him) and less Ahmed/Emma/Sam/ etc I especially hate the wife: IMO, she's a porr actress playing a VERY poorly written character.
  24. I thought that was a great episode. Well, I would, since I am a huge Jaime Murray fan (not gramatically correct, I am not huge). For me, the best line (as so often) was Doc Yewell's reference to the "Irathient godling." I guess I am in a very small group, probably because I am pretty gullible and not a good judge of character, but I actually like the Mayor (aside from manipulating Amanda's drug habit). He's smart, and takes actions in the best interest of Defiance's inhabitants. He could be a mustache twirling villian, but isn't. I totally believed his story. I have to laugh every time I see Amanda in her work clothes - is that veil supposed to be something like a taxi light, showing that she's available for service?
