  1. Not necessarily -- she's sitting in the apartment with nothing to do for 3-4 days a week. She has a clear schedule for the nesting and there is no reason why she couldn't request part time work at the hospital during the days with an empty schedule. Yes, she makes money, but she's also working to make a difference in patients' lives and they don't argue with her all the time. She's not able to make a difference in her family life.
  2. I am enjoying this version; it has more time to breathe than the movie.
  3. Just completed Season 1 and was definitely impressed by a young Stephen Moyer. He never did much for me as Bill in True Blood.
  4. OT, but this also took me to Hawkeye disappoints the Avengers from SNL which a) made me laugh, and b) made me say oh yes! Back on topic, I liked this trailer too.
  5. When T'challa and Nakia are in the street talking, there's large, vibrant, colorful graffiti behind them.
  6. I very much enjoyed this movie - and was particularly inspired by seeing so many characters living up to their full power and potential. I was looking forward to seeing a Wakanda that was similarly empowered but was a little disappointed. With so much high technology and an awareness of nature around them, the city seemed so, well, ordinary. I was hoping to see a more green city that was as much of part of the landscape as the lab was a part of the mountain/meteorite itself. I recognized the connection to traditional African architecture but didn't think that a few thatched roofs on a skyscraper were enough. I also wondered about the graffiti. My understanding is that, in the first world, it is a reaction to being powerless and a way to make voices heard that are more often silenced. Is that needed in Wakanda? There was plenty of other art that was beautiful and highly visible.
  7. OT, but the description of the points system for assessing goodness in The Good Place comes from the very definition of an unreliable narrator. :-) As for Kevin (Probably), the series has always felt like a perfectly pleasant, fun, meander through a meadow. There's never really been a true goal (I mean, they're searching for the righteous while living in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere and relying on Kevin's "visions" for clues), there's not a lot of conflict (Tyler forgave Kevin pretty quickly when it wasn't needed for the plot), and, as I've said before, I have no idea what could happen from episode to episode, except that I do enjoy watching it. A friend in the UK told me about a realtime documentary on TV about a group of reindeer herders moving their herd. There was no narration, or any dialog except for brief conversations in an incomprehensible dialect (to him). It was just people moving around, dealing with the cold, getting the tents up and down, and walking through snow and ice. He said it was remarkably compelling even though nothing much really happened. This series is a little like that. :-)
  8. I have no idea where this show is going -- and it's hard for me to believe we are still in Season 1 - it really doesn't seem too urgent for him to keep searching for the righteous outside Taylor. It doesn't stop me from staying on the ride though. (I must say though that the rabbit on the car made me think: Oh no! a messenger from Fillory!)
  9. Younger is on TV Land and I think we've had 3 seasons so far. The new season hasn't started yet but you should be able to stream it.
  10. She did say she could do the tasks but not as precisely as she would have done when she was a culinary student.
  11. Living in the same building as your parents is coming back in style. See this from the NY Times (2009): http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/27/realestate/27cov.html
  12. Tanya pointed out that she didn't use her knife skills every day -- that was the sous-chef's job. She had learned them, she could check the results when other people used them, it just wasn't something she did all the time and was out of practice.
  13. Claudette is/was an Executive Chef in real life. I believe that was mentioned (possibly by her) when they were assigning roles. It should be known by now that the EC is the chef de cuisine and responsible for the quality of the food as well as the efficient delivery of it. There's a little something called accountability that would seem to be essential in the EC role but is sadly lacking in Claudette.
  14. And here was I worrying about missing an episode because I didn't have cable last night! Phew.
  15. Ah... but that doesn't explain the scenes away from school that he wasn't in.
  16. Men were present on stage. They were included in the introduction of each of the best films.
  17. I'm impressed that all the presenters were women. I am less impressed that the range of shows and movies was so limited. The comedy ensembles, for example, didn't even include The Good Place, or Brooklyn 99, just to mention two.
  18. It depends on the airline you're flying on. On Virgin Atlantic from Seattle to London, one of the options was Season 1 on The Good Place. I watched all of them, back to back, again - just because I could - and I wanted to.
  19. Is it just me or my TV but is the background music and the sounds really loud in this episode? It was hard for me to pay attention to what people were saying...
  20. A radler seems just like a shandy with different fruit juices. In the summer when it's hot, I love to drink shandy (beer with a fizzy lemonade like a 7Up). The lemonade cuts the alcohol in the beer so you can drink more of it and the beer cuts the sweetness in the beer. It's a win/win when it's hot.
