  1. I'm glad to hear that Rose thinks that Stevie is remarkable in her role. I'm looking forward to seeing what the show looks like! Loved David and his doppelganger, and with the rest of you, would have liked to see more. I hope Antonio's clothes are cheap knockoffs of David's originals. I'll have to go back and see his first visit to the Apothecary. Speaking of which, I do hope David and Patrick (well, Patrick) are creating an online presence to sell their high-priced products to a larger, urban market. Their place makes me think of this. (also run by a telegenic gay couple who ended up in a small town.)
  2. If his dad was so unhappy about having an unemployed son, why didn't he have Malcolm help out at his shop?
  3. Exactly what I was yelling at my TV. 🙂 Also this continued the ignorant confusion between climate change and weather. ("Have you seen this snowball? How can there be global warming when there are snowballs this big outside the Capitol?") I live in Seattle where we have to dress for changes in weather all year round -- just yesterday, I woke up with snow on the ground, followed by blazing sunshine, and then a hailstorm. The solution is layers, people, including socks with open sandals if necessary...
  4. The ending tag where the kids are looking at the tortoise and the eggs that had hatched makes it clear that the Apple baby is Oliver's. They note first that Josh (the tortoise) has three offspring ("just like us") and then they notice a new egg laid on the other side of the tank. They clearly state that the new egg is a part of the family and that they will love it "just the same".
  5. Unless the restaurant also got new management... when a new menu style comes with changes in the food as well.
  6. There are mothers in Asia who schedule caesarian deliveries on lucky days so this is not unheard of.
  7. Would you prefer Shakespeare's "...from his mother's womb Untimely ripp'd."?
  8. This was the first time ever that I used the FF button on B99. I find Gina tedious and unpleasant most of the time and an entire episode celebrating her was hard to take.
  9. From what I remember from the historical corset workshop I went to, a woman kept the lacings loosely threaded, used the hooks at the front to put it on and could then reach the lace endings and pull it tighter herself (like shoelaces). She could then tie the ends around herself if she was dressing herself. During times of "undress", the lacing could remain looser, and then be tightened up when you were ready to dress up and go outside. (For what we think of as a 'traditional' corset, there was usually a gap between the two back sections that was covered by the lacing. The waist measurement of the corset didn't include this space so for most women (not tight-lacers) who wore an 18" corset, their actual waist measurement could be up to 6" more than that. ) It was a fascinating workshop.
  10. In response to the idea of corsets as a symbol of freedom, a couple of thoughts: At a costume history workshop, the presenter talked about corsetry, and pointed out that a properly fitted and worn corset should be no more constricting of movement than Lycra and a sports bra. There were and still are women who insisted on "tight-lacing" who were exceptions (and probably as prevalent and socially acceptable as women who surgically remove their lower ribs...) A friend (a Goth who wears Victorian-style clothes every day) pointed out how much more comfortable her well-fitted corsets were than a bra. As a somewhat larger busted girl, she noted that with a corset, she had support without a strain on her shoulders. (She wouldn't be seen dead braless and in yoga pants.... :-) )
  11. Saw this in the NY Times today: Chelsea Peretti Wants Comedy to be Funny Again Warning: Spoiler in the first paragraph!
  12. how did he do that? I went back to the studio portions just to check but it still wasn't clear. He's shown with some scissors next to the cutout though. Was it shaved? or was it a gauze insert?
  13. If Michael wasn't such a moron, he wouldn't have drawn a portrait of the family on the back of an ultra-valuable stock certificate and then throw it away...
  14. In the current environment, I thought the seduction of Budd by Julia was uncomfortable to watch. She's still in a position to fire him, and if the genders had been reversed, it would have made the power differential even clearer. I had to watch carefully for his responses and I still was not convinced that it was anything more than "getting her rocks off" (with a side of adrenalin release after almost dying) on her side, and a bit of aggression release on his. He's definitely a caretaker, so his responses before and after her death are understandable from that point of view. Aside from that, while I was sympathetic to Julia's loneliness, I didn't really trust her.
  15. I was amused that the two mean girls attacking poor Slytherin Leta were both Gryffindors.
  16. I think she's in school in California (see "Grown-ish") and also may be going back to school later than a new freshman. Don't US colleges have a freshman week before everyone else turns up?
  17. Pops lives in the guest house (where Ruby sometimes joins him). I don't know where Ruby entertains her many gentlemen callers nor where other house guests (like Bow's brother) stay.
  18. Doesn't Ruby have her own place? If she's so concerned, she could vacate the guest room. I believe the baby got Zoe's room but I don't know where she stays when she's home. As for Junior's sudden gap year, I can give him a pass for not having a plan as it really wasn't something he was expecting to do, though he could have thought about it all on his solo flight home. If they need him around for a year for the plot, he could volunteer in Dre's old neighborhood, take over for his brother's nanny, work as an intern at the ad agency, or similar.
  19. I was just in here trying to find the original mention of Mike Schur's plan (didn't find it...). Does anyone else remember that? @AnnaRose, I thought it was three seasons too, but if they add Earth maybe they get to spend a seas in the Good Place too. I was happy that he had a clear plan and an ending in mind so that he wasn't going to be tempted to go on and on and on just for the ratings. I seem to remember that the clear end was what drew Ted Danson and Kristen Bell too.
  20. I was mostly overwhelmed by the number of ads this time. It probably wasn't more than usual (was it?) but I found myself constantly picking up the remote to ff, and I couldn't get involved in the story much.
  21. Still not keen on Paul Hollywood though...
  22. As multi-racial/cultural myself, it always seem odd to have to announce yourself as the minority race. On my first US Census form, I checked all the boxes that applied to me. (I got a follow-up call to clarify but they accepted my multiple choice.) The US is the only country I've lived in where I had to confine myself to one race, and I'm proud to be a multi. I don't want to live in a one race box. Obama should have been proud to be bi-racial as should Kat. In a world where people are no longer accepting a single box for sexual preference or gender, it's stupid to insist on a single box for race. Alex was wrong. Kat is bi-racial, not just black.
  23. I figured the Scarlet party was on the weekend before Fashion Week started so that Jane was just there for a quick weekend visit (no vacation days required). That does, of course, assume some practical thinking on Jane's part. (Hah!) Also, how does Kat have miles? She used a credit card to get the abandoned flight to Paris at the end of last season. Did she rack enough miles during the month of travel with Adena through Peru? I agree that Sutton didn't need to give up her trip to Paris to fly back to NY at a huge last minute flight cost -to say nothing of the cancellation fee when she didn't take the flight. She could have called Richard on her cellphone (that could surprisingly call internationally), or used Facetime or Skype, for a conversation about wanting him back. It indicated some thoughtfulness on his part to fly out to see her. He certainly has more money than she does, but I'm still amazed that he was able to get a room in that hotel, last minute, for Fashion Week. (It wasn't her room, as she had a room with two beds that Jane was using, and was the location of the overflow fashion closet.) Also, at the Scarlet No Phones party, why didn't Kat check in her phone? We saw her take a selfie of the three of them, mentioning that she hadn't yet checked in her phone, and then the three of them just strolled up the steps to the party. I kept waiting for her to turn around, run back down and check the phone in but, no, we went to credits. Details, details, details...
  24. I don't have a problem with Jacqueline changing Jane's desk assignment and from what I saw, it was about one desk away from her old desk. What I DID have a problem with is her complete obliviousness to the manners required in an open plan office where people are all writing. When you work with words, other people using words around you can make it difficult to write. (At least at Incite, the other writers wore earphones to control their auditory surroundings.) I would be furious with Jane if she was my desk mate. Not only is she the boss's favorite, who expects our workspace to be designed around her, but she also encourages her friends to come and visit her to chat. No, not just chat, but shout, loudly, while I'm trying to work. :-)
  25. The New York Times had a great interview with Darren Star and Sutton Foster. The final statement was this: Yes.
