  1. I have mixed feelings about Jim's appearance. I'll just say I'm glad he was feeling up to doing it. And the flirting with Phyllis was kind of cute. However, the only thing I laughed at was the preview for next week. (I can really relate.)
  2. Some of the stills floating around showed all the Conners at church and DJ giving Darlene a bear hug (like she had just agreed to go with them, though that's just my interpretation). Did the original show ever have them at church? I missed big chunks back then. I wonder if they are trying to substitute religion for politics, since one of the other taglines for the new show was about in-law problems. I guess if Geena's parents are religious in the traditional sense, it could be a source of conflict?
  3. The original 2nd episode is called "The Separation of Church and Dan". I wonder if they thought the Johnny Galecki episode was a better draw, all things considered.
  4. I didn't see Dan having an epiphany and accepting a gay grandson, I saw a grief-stricken grandfather giving scant attention to his grandkid, realizing it and then giving him his full attention, Conner style with the Enrique comment. (ETA: and yes, a bit of discomfort that Mark was being open about stuff he'd rather not talk about.) I thought the varied reactions of the kids were well done. Kids can be brutal about their elders dying. OTOH, Mary having the fruits/vegetables reaction was good, too - it was sweet she wanted to keep everyone else well but also evident she was processing things differently than Mark or Harris.
  5. I missed the first 5 minutes too and had just watched it on the dvr. You should definitely try to catch it online, there were some good lines.
  6. They crammed a lot in the first couple of minutes. It opens with dishwashing and a discussion of death and casseroles, DJ and Gina come in, Jackie gets a phone call, Dan's back is bothering him because he's sleeping on the couch (evidently Roseanne died in bed), Gina and Darlene have a quippy conversation about the Bible, hell and reincarnation - they're smiling like it's a familiar thing and then Jackie comes in from the porch and brings Dan out there to tell him that the coroner's report says Roseanne died of an overdose. All in the first 3 minutes.
  7. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of the show. Direct comments to what happens on-screen and not your fellow posters.
  8. No matter how anyone feels about Roseanne and the way The Conners came to be, the show deserves to be evaluated on its own merits. Please focus the snark on the actual content and performances.
  9. A brief intro to the The Mandalorian universe. Plenty of time to study up, as the show won't debut until Fall 2019, assuming Disney gets their new streaming service up and running by then. https://www.polygon.com/2018/10/15/17979318/the-mandalorian-live-action-star-wars-series-lore
  10. I never watched CBS soaps until all my favorite NBC and ABC soaps had gone under or become unrecognizable **cough**GH**cough** so I'm not sure I agree with the rankings but it's an interesting list. I'd never heard of some of the shows. The 30 Best Daytime Soaps of All Time
  11. SB had a pretty great cast too.
  12. An interesting question. I think back in the early days, there were so many more of them and they didn't last forever - though a lot of that was due to the transition from radio to television. I'm not sure what the average was. I have the following website in my RSS feed reader and am always kind of amazed at the soaps I never heard of. https://www.welovesoaps.net/search/label/History It's funny but when I first skimmed the question I was thinking that you meant half hour vs. one hour vs. ninety minute format until I saw years. It's too bad that the half hour soaps mostly died out first. The genre might not be down to 4 daytime soaps if there were some half hour dramas other than B&B.
  13. Reviews are starting to trickle in. Some of them aren't terribly positive. I think this was the best one I saw. https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-conners-is-almost-sweet-enough-to-make-up-for-the-roseanne-fiasco The reviewer liked Darlene and Becky's rapport, which is great because this is one of the things I liked most about the revival.
  14. Original Air Date: October 16, 2018
  15. We just started a rewatch and are almost to the end of S1. Tomorrow night is the The First David Job. I think of the first season my favorite is The Juror #6 Job.
  16. I'm hoping they do an episode a week, mainly because it's easier to keep up that way. I never have enough time to binge a whole season but I can squeeze an hour show in here and there.
  17. I really liked One Hour. As for repeat guests, my second favorite (after LDP/Ian) was probably Henry Winkler as Roger Bloom.
  18. The lava lamp thing made me smile. I do like it when writers get the tech stuff kind of right. (Allowing for dramatic license and all...) https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/encryption-lava-lamps
  19. I wouldn't call TK one note exactly, though he does tend to easily dominate a scene. He was charming as well as overbearing as Dr. Ian Thornhart on Port Charles and he got to play the romantic poet as Patrick Thornhart on OLTL. I always assumed Patrick was closest to his real self because of the poetry. Agreed that it helps a lot when he is clean shaven and his hair is short though a lot of fans loved Patrick's long hair. (Not me.) My main fear about the upcoming musical partners is Quinn. While I wouldn't mind if she regained a little of her edge, I like who she is with Eric and don't want to watch her cheat on him, or have Eric paranoid that Q/R are a thing. Of course, if Eric and Donna cheat first, I'll bring the popcorn for Quinn's hell hath no fury.
  20. Brain tumors are great for wiping the slate clean from whatever bizarre corner writers get themselves into.
  21. I don't really keep up with interviews and such, so I'm glad they like each other off-screen anyway. It would make Bridge a lot easier to watch if some of that made it to my television once in a while.
  22. Another strike against TK is his lack of chemistry with KKL. I don't have a long enough history with the show to have strong feelings for or against Brooke but as one of the shows leading ladies since Day 1, she should have had a Ridge recast she could sizzle with, since it's one of the core themes of the show. That is probably the worst aspect of TK as Ridge. I don't buy that he even likes Brooke most of the time.
  23. I think most of the irritation towards TK is that he was too different from original Ridge. If he had been a new character it would have been better. Also it's hard to forget his really questionable grooming choices over the last few years. I loved TK on AMC/PC but B&B hasn't been his best work.
