  1. So...has anyone here made fried green tomatoes? I bought a few green tomatoes the other day and can't find my recipe for them (haven't made this dish since--geez--maybe 2001?). I'm not a southerner; first made them in 1998 and loved them (after seeing that fabulous movie--it inspired me ;>) I just found a recipe at allrecipes.com which looks good (got lots of great reviews from southerners, which, IMO, counts!). I remember I served the fried green tomatoes with aioli (my own version). Think I'll give this a try (with a few twists like some garlic powder & a bit of parmesan): http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Best-Fried-Green-Tomatoes/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=fried%20green%20tomatoes&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page&soid=sr_results_p1i1
  2. @Lura: Go to a cheese shop (or the cheese dept in your supermarket) and ask them for a very mild feta (that's what I do--don't care for the briney, OTT tangy stuff). I think what I get is made from cow's milk (Mr. P914 thinks it's too bland). Or, toss in a soft cheese that you like--maybe a fresh mozzarella would be a good substitute; it just needs to be able to melt a little when the "sauce" hits the hot pasta. Or, skip the cheese altogether. This sauce is so delicious it doesn't have to have the cheese IMO.
  3. Thanks for the link. Hmmm...I wish FN had made a show about Michael Symon and Sammy Hagar cookin' together--two characters in a kitchen!
  4. I sure didn't enjoy this last evening of watching Louie. The scene in which they were taking photos of their underwear was so stupid that I changed the channel (returned 10 minutes later). The only good part for me was when she told him to get his own TV show (instead of being jealous of his friend).
  5. What does Louie see in Pamela? The scene in Central Park was wasted on me since I was constantly worrying about them getting mugged (or worse). I did enjoy the art gallery and its absurdities (some of which looked a bit familiar).
  6. Tonight, in my ongoing quest to start trying out the gazillion recipes I've clipped, downloaded, copied out of library books, etc., I made Penne with Greek Style Tomato Sauce that I found in a Southern Living magazine. Think I found a keeper as we liked it a lot! It's similar to Summer Spaghetti's "sauce". I used mini penne which worked out great. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/penne-with-greek-style-tomato-sauce-10000001084350/
  7. Whew - after reading all these speculation posts, I'm getting nervous about the new season.
  8. One of my all time favorite scenes is in The Breakup (especially when George says it's like a prison escape, and throws his arms out as tho' he's up against the wall). This is when George has successfully broken up with Marlene (the sexy southern gal who just doesn't "get" Jerry's humor): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOW5hbMEU7E
  9. You said it! The past several weeks, watching Louie and Fargo, have been amazing (I'd just about given up on ever watching TV shows again). Hope both programs have had great ratings.
  10. Oh sure, you betcha! I remember being astounded that of all the insurance salesmen at that convention, good ol' loserman himself, Lester, was the recipient of this award. So what in the world happened during the past year that enabled this dork to receive the Salesman of the Year Award?
  11. Soap starring Sally Fields, Kevin Kline & Whoopie G; Easy Money starring Rodney Dangerfield & Joe Pesci; of course, Animal House, and Major League. It's not shown very often but I do like Jumpin' Jack Flash just to see Whoopie fly out a window while Diana Ross's cassette is wailing, "Can't Hurry Love" (the cassette player is flying through the air alongside Whoopie).
  12. Oh, God...say it ain't so, Louie. Pamela? Again? What...are you a glutton for punishment? I'm sad already that this'll be the last episode and now your finale will include Pamela? Interesting that both Louie and Fargo have their finale's next week (interesting but depressing--I've enjoyed watching these unusual shows for grown-ups followed by great discussions here at previously.tv).
  13. Thanks for the link - great discussion! (especially liked Mrs. Freeman's observation/question re: Malvo).
  14. I, for one, will be amazed if Malvo is killed in Le Grande Finale because if he is who I think he is, that would be impossible. Actually, I'm ashamed to admit that I'm hoping he won't disappear for good (yeah, despite his killing an innocent animal...oh, and those folks in the elevator, & poor gullible Linda). It's just that there's something way too fascinating about Malvo (how many assassins stop and take the time to torment a man & his little kids with lurid comments about the gory murder that took place in their basement, or, tempt a dumb teen to pee in a gas tank & then gleefully rat him out?). I don't personally know any assassins; maybe this is something they all get their kicks doing. It's also BBT in this role with that sweet, innocent look on his face as Malvo ever so smoothly glides into different personalities. This role was made for BBT.
  15. @larapu2000: Those shents hide a lot of sins (butter, cream, sugar, Manhattans, etc ;>) I think there are lots of folks in this country who'd enjoy wearing them.
  16. Well folks...it's about time for the last episode before The Grand Finale. Here we go!
  17. Enjoyed reading all these comments. I wanted to stop watching last night...but that "little Louie" kept me glued to the show. No emoting, no hysterics - he just showed so well the confusion, insecurity, stupidity, vulnerability, sweetness, inability to express himself, etc., that so many children go through on their way to adulthood. And with that red hair, fair skin and expressive eyes, he looked like a young Louie. Agree, the kid should've been told to reimburse the school by getting an after school job or summer job to earn the money. I liked this week's episode much more so than last week's creepy and somewhat boring episodes (boring for me was his attempt to have a relationship with someone who doesn't speak the same language).
  18. I like them whether I understand them or not. They just add to the good ol' Fargo-ness of it all.
  19. Wow - TR's new house is gorgeous! This isn't the little house we saw in that episode (years ago) when Ina cooked fish & chips in his kitchen (which they ate on his dock). I recognize the dock, though. No wonder we haven't seen him on any of Ina's shows - he's been working hard over the years, making enough money to build something like this in the Hamptons. But I think it's time TR invited Ina over for another cooking class so we can see more of his beautiful house.
  20. @novhappy: glad you liked the watermelon, feta and mint salad. I eat it year round but it's especially great on hot summer days. And chocolate cupcakes with Ina's peanut butter frosting are truly wonderful. The frosting gets so light and fluffy. I cheated when I made them a few months ago - used a Duncan Hines chocolate cake mix to quickly make the cupcakes (but then I invested my time in making Ina's frosting - divine!) Some day I need to make those famous coconut cupcakes with the creamcheese frosting.
  21. I'm not sure if she qualifies as a "talking head"...but a couple years ago, over the Christmas holidays, one night Chris had his wife, Katherine Matthews (former news anchor for the ABC affiliate in Washington DC) on as a guest. It was incredibly bizarre. She was interviewing him, asking for his opinions about current events (and you know he was in his glory that evening, babbling away, pontificating left & right--it was a sight to behold!). Before she left her job at the ABC station, she was really one of the best anchors in DC and was/still is highly respected. She must love her husband an awful lot to do something as inane as that appearance on his show. Good thing for her it was during that lull on TV between Xmas & New Years Eve when no one's watching much TV!
  22. Yup. Whenever that episode is on, my favorite part is Jerry doing his little 'toon-inspired song & dance while standing in line with Elaine.
  23. Thanks, Rhetorica, for a wonderful guffaw! Great way to start off the day.
