One is the Loneliest Number: Unpopular GG Opinions
alexa replied to mstaken's topic in Gilmore Girls
I can completely understand! I think many of us can relate to him because we do know many men from that generation that were very similar to Richard Gilmore (not in the wealth, but in the personality aspects you describe). I guess I shouldn't speak for others, so I will say I am well aware of several people like him. I think the reason why he is still liked is because underneath some of that you get those nice moments that are meaningful. Doesn't excuse his behavior, but there is something about getting through that shell once in a while. Plus I think people like the character because they respect the actor--there is some of that as well. But I totally agree that he is not the nicest of people all of the time! -

Speaking of Sookie, I think she had some great moments in Season 7... to me she was back to being a good friend to Lorelai, had good dialogue with her husband, and seemed involved in the town again. There were a couple of seasons before that in which I didn't like her as much as I usually do. -
All Episodes Talk: Lorelai and Rory and the People They Love

I finally finished my most recent run through of the full 7 season of Gilmore Girls, and now am curious to see where the revival takes it. I will have to hear it from all of you as I don't use Netflix, but I am sure over time it will come available at some point. Season 7 brings me mixed feelings.... there are some great episodes in there that really bring the characters together in a nice way-- Lane's baby shower, the party for Rory at the end, etc. But as I always say here, Christopher is a negative for me, so him taking up half of the season was annoying as usual. Once I got past that and got to see some of the rapport between Luke and Lorelai, things are much better. I also think that Lorelai has some good moments with Sookie and her parents in this season. Rory had some life changing moments, and I liked the back and forth with her and Logan. I love the last episode. It was very sweet--how the town/Luke planned that party, and I loved Lorelai's parents being there and her dad insisting on complimenting her. Very sweet. -
I totally agree...poor Sophia. She has some major challenges to grow up with when you consider Farrah and Farrah's mom. It will take a miracle for her to overcome all of that! As for the shoes and bathroom thing, I can kind of understand. On the one hand, these people are in the home a lot, and you get to know them so they aren't like strangers. On the other hand, having so many people in your house using your bathroom and other things would get a bit tiresome. And some people like things to be a certain level of clean in their home. Not everyone likes people wearing shoes in the home because they don't wear shoes, etc. That said, I am not excusing Farrah in particular because she is downright mean about it. But if she had set up the rules and expectations in a nicer and more understandable way, I could understand it.

I thought Amber looked so pretty in this episode. Amazing difference from in the past. I thought most of them came off well in this episode, with the exception of Farrah, of course. She is just so rude to everyone. She acts like the MTV producers are bothering her, while forgetting this is her actual job. If she doesn't need it, she could quit, after all. I know there are a lot of people here that don't like Macy, and I can understand why, but I do really think she gets along well with her producers and they really like her. Granted she hasn't had a ton of drama in the same way as Amber and Farrah so it makes sense.

I agree--you are right, they could have done far more interesting things! For me, I find listening to their incessant boring chatter is enough to put me to sleep. It makes me laugh they broke up a couple (Luke and Lorelai) to bring me this??? Really? :-) -

Revisiting season 7 and along with dreading the Lorelai and Chris relationship I am quickly reminded how boring they are as a dating couple. ugh. It is like the writers are trying to tell me how perfect they are and I just don't care. -
S31.E14: Lie, Cheat, And Steal / S31.E15: Live Reunion

I think Spencer and Tasha deserve some credit. Granted Jeremy had an idol, but they essentially saved the alliance and him by noticing Kimmi's move. Jeremy didn't want to believe it, but they were right. I think Jeremy gets a lot of credit for things that other people did or were more savvy to. That said, Jeremy played a great game and had some good moments himself. I didn't find Spencer being arrogant in those 2 tribal councils. I thought the deal with Kimmi, it was good they made the statement of what they were going to do in order to see if they could get Kimmi to reverse her decision to go with the other 2. As for telling Jeremy about choosing him over Kelley...it was a little over the top, but he was right. Jeremy had much better chances with Spencer. Anyway, I have mixed feelings...I liked Jeremy okay, but am not completely sold on his game. I wish the other 2 would have gotten some votes because I am left feeling he didn't deserve them all. -
I am just revisiting the Luke and Lorelai break up at the end of Season 6/beginning of Season 7. Which depresses me, because I like their relationship. I do get why the break up happens, and I can even understand Lorelai's stupid move to sleep with Christopher given her emotional state. But what I don't understand is why Christopher really thought the one night was more to her when he had to have known that Lorelai and Luke were a couple, and obviously something had gone wrong (for her to be there). I realize Lorelai and Christopher will get together soon, but there is no way he can think she doesn't have confusion about her previous relationship given it just ended.

I always just saw Mia and Lorelai's start to her career as part of the story of her life. There are many real life situations where someone takes someone under their wing, and helps them get a good start in life by helping them at a time when they really need it. I am sure they just "clicked" and Mia felt something toward Lorelai and Rory, wanted to help, and had a means to do it... -

I was never a fan of Liz either. To me she is the annoying fly that wasn't necessary to the show and wouldn't go away. TJ too. In rewatching GG, I start to get a bit depressed when they show up, as I know they are recurring enough that I can't get fully comfortable when watching. Kind of like Chris.... you get comfortable without him, and then he shows back up. -
Its about property values. If someone paints their house neon green or is a junk collector in their yard their neighbors can't sell their own homes because buyers don't want that neighbor. I get that you don't want an HOA but that is one reason they have some rules. To protect other homeowners. As also stated above they cover other community costs like garbage and roads, etc.
-
Interesting about Farrah's house. Sorry if I missed it, but where is she living/wants to live instead of that house? Just curious why she was selling. HOA's can be a good thing (not at that price necessarily), as it does help keep up a neighborhood to some degree. Letting people do whatever they want to do with their house and yard is not always a good thing :-) I have seen those results when driving in random neighborhoods.

Dolly Parton's Coat Of Many Colors (NBC) - General Discussion
alexa replied to Tara Ariano's topic in TV Movies
I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. Cheesy or not, very well done :-) Has Jennifer Nettles acted before? I thought she did a great job. -
I feel like Lainey's situation has been addressed many times as well... we have seen her home life with only her dad a few times, and she has typically been around due to her family being small and not doing much. Plus I don't think it is odd for someone to hang out at their best friend and boyfriend's house, as that is something that happens quite a bit as well around the holidays. Anyway, I liked the episode and that it highlighted Bev's family and traditions (in Goldberg fashion at least), and gave her father a nice role in the show. A very sweet ending.

I went and looked at poppa jeff's pics of the kids on instagram, and wow.... those girls really do look so much better and cleaned up when with Corey's family. It is amazing. They look like happy, normal little girls. So different from them running around at Leah's.

I think Jace is smart enough to know why he isn't living with his mom, and also doesn't really want to. He may be young, but he has seen what is going on, and I sense he can tell living with Barbara is a good thing. I think he is also somewhat used to the men in Janelle's life, and I don't get the sense he takes any of them too seriously because he knows Janelle isn't stable as it is. Just my take, but I really think he will be fine.

The Wiz Live! (NBC) - General Discussion
alexa replied to JessePinkman's topic in The Wiz Live! (NBC)
So I confess I didn't watch the whole thing and I don't know much about "the Wiz" in general, but I didn't care for it at all. I thought the lead character kept just going around looking like she was thinking "I am supposed to look confused and upset", but didn't sell those emotions to me at all. And I know it is hard to do the production aspects on stage, but I thought many of them looked kind of cheesy. I am glad many people liked it, and perhaps I missed something great, but this is just another perspective. -
I really thought this one was funny too. I loved how Claire was playing along with the contract thing in the office once she "understood" that might make Dean leave their workplace to return to the Grinder.
-
This episode was a little better for me due to the change in focus.... not about Jimmy screwing up... he actually did something smart--encouraging his son to you know, like actually have a job? I think over time his joblessness and lack of motivation will make me appreciate Jimmy, which is sad really. (that is if I am still watching!) :-)

I thought both of Carlos' dances were not good and was expecting some sort of comment to that effect, but then they raved and gave him perfect scores. The first dance they just didn't not seem into it at all, and I thought the freestyle just didn't come together as anything very great. I was glad to see him go. Nice guy, but kind of annoying, and I find his relationship with his wife rather immature. I feel if you have to rave on and on about each other that often means things aren't as wonderful as you proclaim, but maybe that is not true here--I have no idea. I wasn't really thrilled with Nick's freestyle at all. His jive was good and difficult. As for Bindi, I like the girl, but I do think it is somewhat embarrassing how much they compliment her as special and wonderful and the best thing ever. Those are nice things to say, but it gets to be a bit much. I didn't really care for the freestyle as I found it unoriginal, and I didn't think the dad reference was needed at the end as she already had a tribute dance to him earlier in the season. This should be about her and her journey, not about her father, in my opinion. I just didn't feel wowed by that freestyle.... I have liked past seasons' simple freestyles much better. I really liked Alek's performances tonight. He isn't the best dancer, but he did well in both, and I think they both suited him. I liked their freestyle the best.

I don't know-- the storylines never really indicated cooking much even at school or when she visited her mom at home. But who knows. -

I am watching the Martha Vineyard episode. So annoying--Rory acting all like she is a cook now and goes to the gym? It comes out of nowhere. -
I loved the episode overall with the exception of some of Barry's over the top antics with the dog situation. (the ending was good, though). I had some reservations about Erica's story as well because even though I like that she appreciates her mom in the end, so often in these types of stories she goes way over the top in doing something nice for her mom--to the point that it isn't at all practical. No teenager is going to go from disowning their mom to having a night of camping together--that just wouldn't feel comfortable for most teenagers in general that are going through the angst of figuring out where their parents fit in their life.

I just saw the episode where Jess came to visit Rory in season 6, and their dinner out was disrupted by Logan. I think that was a missed opportunity -- it would have been nice to see the dinner between the two characters as their relationship kind of deserved that after their abrupt ending. I am not a big Jess/Rory person, but this is a much better Jess and I would have liked to see more from that episode than Logan acting like a jealous pig. That wasn't really very interesting at all.
