Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
CalicoKitty replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I'm watching the SF Giants ball game, and we have an excellent player named Steven Duggar. Every time he is at bat it makes me think of, and feel so sorry for, the Duggar children, and how they will never be able to play any kind of organized sports. They just get to live a confined, controlled, uneducated life with now horrible notoriety. -
Didn't Ben work with his dad in a windshield repair business? I think he might actually have some skills that he isn't using right now.

My good news Sunday is from Friday. Friends took me out to eat for my birthday. We went to a great Basque restaurant, and it was really good. Today is good, too. Went to church early, and am enjoying the Giants game (they are wining, as of now). Just appreciating the nice weather.

Joe & Kendra: Looking Forward To Side Hugs

As fundy families go, this is really a good looking group. Everyone has such a nice smile. -
I thought one of the kids took the picture. Maybe Sam was given the phone this time.

"Deceased" is too difficult to understand, apparently. SHE IS DEAD written on the forms or letters seems to get the point across better. I once had someone call and ask for her, and after I said she was no longer at this address, he asked for her new address. I think he finally realized that she was not going to make a donation when I told him I was sorry, but I didn't remember the number of her crypt. He never called back.

I was in charge of my neighbor's estate when she didn't have anyone else. She left money to relatives she had not spoken to for years. Turned they had died. So I had to track down their children, with nothing but the last name. I did find them, after finally finding an obit with just their names. I divided the amount between them and sent checks. Suggestion: when you leave your final plans, please include names and addresses of people you want to leave money to. And make sure they are still alive. Also, be sure any charities are listed with the correct name and address. It took me two months and four letters to get a donation to the correct charity. As letters with the check were returned to me as "wrong address", I just kept putting them unopened in a new envelope and tried another address. This particular charity had changed addresses several times, but had not updated their web site. The check finally arrived at the correct address. Likewise, be prepared to receive requests for donations sent to the deceased. Even after I sent a final donation and told them she had died, they continued to send her requests for money for a couple of years. Finally, I wrote on the donation slip "XXXX is dead. Stop asking her for money". That worked. And be sure to notify the DMV and voter registration in your state. There are so many little things that need to be done. It really is quite a process.

Good news Sunday. We had an organist in church this morning that played like she had actually seen an organ before. She was excellent. I hope she plays every Sunday from now on.

This reminds me of something I saw at the vet's office one day. I was there with my very well-behaved, sweet cat. There was a family in the waiting room--dad, mom, and a son who was maybe 10 years old. They had a cat in a carrier. The son had large, deep scratches on his face and hands. When it was their turn, the dad took the cat in the carrier in to see the doctor. After a few minutes we heard yelling and screaming, and then the dad came out with his hand all bandaged and his face scratched. They were laughing and thought it was cute. I love my cats, but I would not have an "attack cat" under any circumstances, especially when it was obviously attacking children and other people. There are too many sweet babies sitting at the shelter needing a home. This cat apparently was not a "people cat".

I went to nursing school while teaching elementary school, but already had my BS degree. But I don't see how she will do it with 2 kids that need extra care. Nursing school, at any level, is not for the feint of heart. It takes a lot of work. Not just studying, but clinicals at all hours. And the schedule changes each semester, so a routine for the kids would be hard. All I did was teach, study, and hope to get to sleep for the duration. I wish her all the best and much luck.

I was just reading on another show thread, and when there was a new post, it also was HUGE and stayed on the screen and didn't go away until I hit the X. I sure hope this gets fixed soon. (at least it was @emmawoodhouse, and she has a nice picture).

I guess I will have to live with the HUGE notifications, but I wish they would go away faster.

If I go to the IPS default, it won't let me change the font size. That option disappears completely. And the font is much too small. I guess I'll have to stick with the light default and receive HUGE notifications. At least I can increase font size.

They are still teenagers. This is not mature behavior, but they are not mature (yet).

Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp
CalicoKitty replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
I lived in the Central Valley in California for many, many years. We do not get rain during the summer, and the temperature is in the 90's to over 100 on an average summer day. On the rare occasion that we would get a rain shower (not a storm, just a shower for a day), people would wear their winter coats and get out the umbrellas. Because--if it is raining, it must be winter. Never mind the actual temperature. I thought it was pretty funny. Maybe it was a cloudy day, and Joy and Austin thought it was really cold. -
At first look, I thought was an under-baked pizza. I really don't know what it is, though.

I was just coming to say the same thing. Finally!

On day I was teaching a music lesson in a first grade glass (I was the traveling music teacher). We were learning and singing about Johnny Appleseed, as I remember. Suddenly this little boy raises his hand and announces to everyone that when he grows up, he wants to be a Union Plumber. Not a plumber, a UNION plumber. Ok. We went back to our instruments and Johnny Appleseed. I wonder what Johnny Appleseed and plumbing have in common, and I guess I'll never know. Some things you just can't explain.
