Three lightning breaks each about 40 minutes where the teams and everyone in the stadium had to evacuate. The stadium was packed, and everyone had to leave, and then come back, and then leave, and then come back, etc. College football has a rule that if there is lightning within 8 miles of the stadium everyone must leave and must stay away until at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder. It was.....interesting.

I love when the animals all have their tongues out for the last picture. This commercial is very clever.

Christine Brown Woolley: Nacho Sister Wife Anymore
CalicoKitty replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
I did not recognize Christine. She looks good. -
The Iowa/Nevada game finally ended last night at 11:30 PDT, so 1:30 in Iowa. I stuck with it, but I was beginning to wonder if they would just call it off. There were still fans in the stands at the bitter end. Over 7 hours for a football game. That has to be some kind of record. Big 10 network stuck with them the whole time, but I'm sure the network hopes this doesn't happen again.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
CalicoKitty replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
What is with the commercial with the guy smelling his beard? I don't even know what product it is. I change the channel too quickly. It is disgustingly creepy. I totally agree about the snot bubble commercial. There are so many things wrong in that ad. Disgusting. I guess they pulled those totally obnoxious Virgin cruise commercials. That was a good move. They insured that I would never go on one of their cruises. I also HATE the commercial where the kid stuffs crayons up his nose. Why do advertisers think being gross and disgusting sells products? They are not cute or funny. Any ideas why I mostly watch streaming apps like Brit Box and Acorn? (No awful commercials) -
They show it every televised Iowa home game. I think it is a very nice gesture to the kids. I'm guessing the kids get a great view of the game.

I'm curious as to who she sells to. Most Fundy families don't have that kind of money to spend on supplements, and unless she is buying product herself, I just don't see how she can qualify for anything. I wonder if this company has a minimum that you must order each month. Jill may have to have a "go fund to me" for herself just to be able to meet her monthly quota. (and I doubt the Amish would be willing customers) If a shed suddenly appears on their property, I would wonder if it was full of product that he "had" to order.

I'm watching the Iowa/Nevada football game tonight and flipping occasionally to the Giants baseball game (they are behind right now). I have never watched a football game where they have to evacuate the stadium for thunder. I watch a lot of Iowa games, and this is a first. There is a rule that if lightning is within 8 miles, there must be a stadium evacuation for at least 30 minutes after the last lightning strike. They finally resumed play after the first delay, and now they had to leave again. The stadium is packed, and all the spectators must leave, too. I don't know the college football rule for calling the game, but the announcers are saying they will keep trying and it will be a long night. It is pouring rain, but the lightning is the problem. I live in Nevada, but Iowa is my team. My parents met at UI, and my mother graduated from there (my dad was taking advanced chemistry classes there--he graduated from Upper Iowa in Fayette). I don't watch much NFL football, but I do enjoy college games. I have never seen stadium evacuations, though. My favorite thing about University of Iowa home games happens at the end of the first quarter. The stadium is right next to the Children's Hospital, and the home games stop at the end of the first quarter, all the players come onto the field, and everyone faces the hospital and waves at the kids as they watch through the windows. Fans turn their phone flashlights on and wave, and the TV shows the kids in the windows waving. It is really a nice tradition. After a few minutes, the game resumes. (It will be at least 30 minutes before it resumes right now.)

I remember having chicken pox--and measles and mumps. Kids today are so lucky to be able to avoid all that with just a few jabs. I remember spending my 6th birthday in my dark bedroom with measles. I am very, very thankful for today's medical research.

My brother said the Shingrex were the worst shots he had ever had. Lots of pain and redness. I had no pain at all. You are so right--everyone is different. I'm glad you are recovered well. In my opinion, and speaking from experience, ANY pain from the shots is worth not getting shingles. That pain is no fun at all. Think of the worst sunburn you ever had, and multiply that by about 30. (plus I had a doctor who couldn't recognize shingles---I never went back to him again.). I had shingles before Shingrex was available. I have now had both shots and hope never to mess with shingles again!

I had almost no reaction to the shingrix. I was prepared for a lot of pain, per my brother. Both times my arm was slightly red, and if I moved my arm it felt like, yeah, maybe I had had a shot. But no real pain at all. It was a breeze. I had a flu shot at the same time as my second shingrix, and it was still no problem. Best of luck, and I hope you come through painless!

Years ago, when my mom had her cataract surgery, she had to go to the hospital and be checked in both times. Lots of restrictions afterward. More recently, when I was taking care of a neighbor, I could not take her to the doctor for her surgery because of my work schedule. I had a driver take her to the doctor's office and pick her up again. No restrictions, no hospital involved. What a difference time and experience makes.

In the school where I taught, Kindergarten is 1/2 day. Where I live now it is full day. I guess it depends on the location and the school district.

Parents wearing masks was a rule in my NICU for years.

Christine Brown Woolley: Nacho Sister Wife Anymore
CalicoKitty replied to Rhondinella's topic in Sister Wives
@the-grey-lady Where can I find your recap? -
I think I have watched all of her documentaries. I find her very interesting, and she does a very good job with her presentations. I just watched one about the princes who disappeared from the Tower. Her office is at Hampton Court, and they have shown a lot of "behind the scenes" areas that are now used as offices. This is the first book I have read by her. She writes just like she speaks. I'm anxious to start her Agatha Christie book, but I am really enjoying this one that I am reading.

Our temp is down to the mid 70's, which is wonderful, but the AQI is up to 205 where I live, and 255 in Carson City. It is very hazy and overcast with smoke. It seems like it should be about 7:00 in the evening, not 1:30. Not a day to open the windows! I heard the Mosquito fire is 10% contained, which I guess is a start, but I will be so happy when the air is clear again. Luckily I don't have anywhere I need to go, so I can stay inside with the windows shut. It is a good time to catch up on some new books. I am reading "If Walls Could Talk: An Intimate History of the Home" by Lucy Worsley. I just received her new book about Agatha Christie which I will read next. I would like to be able to go outside and do some shopping, however. Everyone who is close to the fires, or dealing with smoke, stay safe!!

Loren & Alexei: No Strippers Allowed
CalicoKitty replied to cooksdelight's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
They mentioned a while back that Loren has some kind of malformation that necessitates C sections. It is a known problem, and she is under medical care. I just don't remember exactly what the problem is, but I think her children need to be delivered early. They showed blood pressure issues with the first baby, but I think there is a physical issue also. -
Our AQI is finally down in a reasonable range today, and the temperature has finally dropped. I actually have the front door open for a little while. It is possible that we will have some thunder storms, which can be bad because the lightning can start other fires. I haven't checked on the Mosquito fire yet today. Our sky is still a bit hazy, but at least there is no more strong smoke smell. We had ash falling last year. That is not fun, and I feel you @zoomama. Good luck to all my California friends. I hope you stay safe and have air you can breath. I hope they can get all these fires contained soon.

I still have sort of a soft spot for Ben. He was encouraged to marry young, he married Jessa, and is stuck. I think he actually has some smarts and might have done very well in school and had a good career if he had had any encouragement. On their honeymoon in Europe he was shown to be very interested in where he was and what he was seeing, while Jessa just look bored. He was working in a windshield-repair business before marriage, so he does understand the value of a job. His father pushed him into the Duggar world, and now he has no way out--at least he cannot see one. He seems not to have the gumption to stand up to Jessa, and by association, JB. I see him as a kid that just was not given a chance to grow in the world, and certainly did not get good advice from his parents. I do feel sorry for him in his situation.

I actually don't mind that they are not showing their kids on line. Of course, I would prefer that they stop showing themselves on line, also. In fact, I wish they would just stop posting all together and get on with their lives, but I think they have gone too far to just stop.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
CalicoKitty replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
I was thinking perhaps the third room does not have a closet. Around here, a "bedroom" must have a window and a closet.
