  1. The rain and strong wind is starting again. We actually had some sunshine this afternoon, and I braved out in the hopes of picking up packages at the UPS store. Nope, could hardly drive in the parking lot. No way was I getting out the car. But I did get gas, and would have gone to the bank, but a woman decided to pull right in front of me and head down the road the wrong way. The roads have not been plowed for a while, and there is just so much snow and now slush that I decided to head home. It started raining on the way, so I was glad to get home safe and sound. I did get mail at my home mailbox since someone was nice enough to shovel a path to the mailroom door. But at least I did get out of the house for a few minutes, and there WAS some sun. Now it is overcast, windy, and raining. I think more rain tomorrow, and then another big dump of snow is coming beginning Saturday and ending in several days. Tomorrow is the 6th, so I will take down the Christmas tree. A while ago I ordered a leather sofa on a special order. 4 months later it finally arrived, but was not the correct one. No motorized recline. My "correct" one arrived yesterday, after a 2 month wait, but it must have had a hard fall in transit. It does have the motorized recline, but it is defective. The back cushions don't match up, and it looks crooked. The store ordered another one, and I have this one to use for the next 6 to 8 weeks. I hope number 3 is the charm. This is getting old.
  2. I leaned out of necessity that they make a sliding door "lock", and one for bifold doors. Check Amazon. The one for bifold doors works very well. Cabinet cat was also a whiz at bifold doors.
  3. Thanks for the heads up. We are supposed to get rain starting in a couple of hours, and the weather report shows rain/snow all night. Slight break in the morning, and then rain/snow the rest of the day and all night.
  4. I'm in the Carson Valley in Nevada. I moved here from California a couple of years ago. My brother is in the Central Valley in California, so I keep track of California weather. We had the worst snow since 1997 last week, with a whole lot more coming. Since I am so close to the mountains, California weather has a direct effect on the weather here. If California is getting wind and rain, I know the bad weather will be here soon.
  5. Thanks. We actually had some sun for a few hours today, but the sky doesn't look good over the mountains now. There is "supposed" to be a lot of rain tonight, rain and snow tomorrow and the next day. Saturday and Sunday it is supposed to snow all day and night. You are right, it does not look good for the next week. I was able to drive across the street today to get some boxes from the shed. When I called to see if the UPS Store was open today, I was told they were open, but not to come unless it is an emergency because people have been falling down in the parking lot due to ice and snow. I'm thinking I may have to change doctor's appointments for next week because of snow. I understand you are going to get hit with a lot of rain. Stay safe.
  6. One of my cats can open cupboards. But she is not interested in the trash. She just likes to sit in cupboards. The linen closet is her favorite. She can open it from the inside, too, if she accidentally gets shut in.
  7. There are so many names that used to be men's names that we now think of as female names. I had a great uncle Shirley, I have known a couple of men my dad's age named Marion. I knew a man named Vivian and one named Gail. Ashley was more of a man's name years ago. Those are better than the (men's) names given to my dad and uncle. I won't go into some of the names and creative spellings I have had in my classrooms over the years. Your hair would stand straight up. Brynley is trendy and no stranger than a lot of current names. I do think it sort of odd that the Duggars use trendy names when they claim to be so apart from the "secular world" and so much better than the rest of us.
  8. Snow showers are supposed to start here in a couple of hours, then "sunny" tomorrow afternoon. High should be mid 30's. Another storm is coming in Wednesday with snow for a couple of days. I just received notification that they are delivering my "correct" sofa Wednesday. I hope they don't unwrap it until they bring it inside. And I hope it is the right sofa this time. They are coming from Reno, so I hope the roads are clear, but it will be snowing.
  9. More snow expected this afternoon and tonight. With another big storm next week. My neighbors shoveled me out yesterday, and now my front yard is covered with snow mounds about 4 feet tall. I was going to take advantage of the clear weather this morning to go to the UPS store to pick up some packages and mail, but they are not open. There would not be any parking available, anyway. Too much show. Then I decided to take down my Christmas tree, but realized the box was over in the storage shed, and there is too much snow to get in. So I am enjoying my tree for the foreseeable future. I did call off my house cleaner for tomorrow. I don't want her driving in this snow and ice, especially with more snow coming. I heard on the news this morning that about 12,000 homes have been without power since Saturday. With all the roads closed, hotel reservations were being cancelled. Now the hotels are filled with locals without power. They said there have been 775 separate power outage problems due to the extreme amount of snow. So far, I am good. But I am hoping that this next storm starting this afternoon is not going to bring too much more snow. Very cold weather, feet of snow. Not the way I had anticipated the beginning of the new year. Everyone stay warm and safe.
  10. When I was in high school ( a long time ago) Driver's Ed was a required class. We had class work and behind the wheel training. The class counted toward your GPA. My brother was sole Valedictorian of his class because his good friend, also a straight A student, got a B in Driver's Ed. I just don't understand why the Rods take safety so lightly. No car seats for infants, driving unsafely, piling up tickets. Do they really think they are so special that the rules just don't count for them?
  11. 18 inches of snow from this storm, which is the most in 15 years. All churches were closed this morning. Sunny right now, but more snow is expected tonight, and for the next week at least. I have nice neighbors who are shoveling me out to ready for the next go-around. I just heard from my friend in Stockton CA that their roads are flooded. My brother is driving back from Disney Land right now, and he said they had rain the whole time they were there. Other friends flew to Cancun and were soaked getting from their car to the shuttle, and from the shuttle to the airport entrance. They had to fly in soaking wet clothes. On a positive note, maybe the drought will be over?? Everyone stay safe and warm. There are more storms coming.
  12. Church has been cancelled for tomorrow, and I just received an alert on my phone telling everyone to stay off the roads because of a "severe" amount of snow. (No, this message did not come from Jill R.) 2022 was a tough year for me, and I am happy to see the end of it, but I did not plan to start 2023 snowed in my house. I hope my power and internet stay up, because I plan to spend a lot of time with my friends here. I wish everyone a Happy New Year, and I pray that 2023 brings everyone health and happiness. Everyone stay warm and safe.
  13. We are having a lot of snow today. I'm guessing there is probably close to 6 inches so far today, with much more to come. My internet has gone down and come back, and my lights are flickering every so often, so I just hope power and internet stays on. Flora enjoys watching the snow fall. Everyone, stay warm and safe!!
  14. I still avoid Tater Tots. I slipped on one in the school cafeteria and had two shoulder surgeries. Besides being of less than optimal nutrition, they are slippery as heck.
  15. I thought Velveeta was the only cheese there was until I was about 8 years old. I really thought "cheese" meant Velveeta. Then cheddar and Edam came into our house. I love cheese, and I always have cheddar, asiago and provolone on hand. Velveeta really does make for a good grilled cheese sandwich, but I haven't had it for years.
  16. It is about to start raining here, with rain all day tomorrow, and snow starting tomorrow or Saturday. Then another storm comes in Monday with more snow. The forecast shows a lot of snow--almost every day-- for the next week and a half. There has been flooding on some streets. I think we are in for a lot of wet days. I am very happy to see rain and snow because we have been a drought for several years, but I would like it spread out and not come all at once. I guess my new gutter heaters will come in handy this next week. I picked up groceries at Walmart this afternoon, and I had to wait a long time for them to bring my groceries to the car. I found out that "someone" had left the bags with the frozen food sitting out, and they had to go back and pick and rebag part of my order. It was cold in the car, but at least I did not get soggy frozen food. I don't have to go anywhere until next week, so I can hunker down with my cats on my lap. I hope everyone here stays warm and safe.
  17. She didn't even bother to put the correct sized pillow insert in the pillow cover. Those pillows are very flat with a lot of room around the edges. But they had better have them on display when BME goes to their houses.
  18. I am so envious reading these posts about home cooking. My dad's mother was a HORRIBLE cook, my mother's family only cooked to feed the family. My mother never went out of her way to cook. We always had frozen or canned vegetables--except for ice berg lettuce--and very quick, easy-to-cook meals. My brother and I were talking about this recently. We do not have any really good food memories with the exception of ham loaf. We do remember eating a lot of TV dinners, however. It was not a lack of food availability or cost, our family on both sides just did not cook well. (We were happy we didn't have to eat our grandmother's cooking very often). I do not really cook for myself. I do make stew occasionally, but I eat easy to fix food--but real food and not a lot of packaged things. Food just isn't important to me, and I have no special food memories. I do really enjoy eating at nice restaurants, but a baked potato and a salad is a good enough meal for me at home. I bake chicken breasts and pork chops. I can cook, just not well, and I see no reason to make a mess in the kitchen.
  19. OK. I am officially over the stupid Old Navy commercials with the woman pounding on the piano. How does this commercial sell merchandise?? There is nothing positive about these commercials, at all.
  20. I have been told that there may be insurance/medicare payment issues if you do get a positive from the Cologard and do need a colonoscopy. The insurance figures you have already had a test and don't want to pay for a second procedure. I have not looked into it personally, however.
  21. I watched an episode last week that really disappointed me. The family had a "Tudor" home that was beautiful dark brick. The owners said they liked the look of the outside of their home. The entire house ended up being painted stark white, and it looked horrible. Instead of character outside, it was a huge white blob with no character at all. The wife did have a look of disappointment for a second, but quickly hid it. Since you can't unpaint brick, that house is ruined.
  22. Is that picture reversed, or could not one of these great musicians show her how to put the violin in her correct hand.
  23. This does not surprise me. The gave a little girl (don't remember which one) a diaper in a brown paper bag for a birthday present. Not a package of diapers--a diaper. I don't feet that gifts need to be expensive, but they do need to show some thought to show you care about the person. A child's toy for a teen is not showing any thought. For example, I would appreciate if someone gave me some Burts Bees lip gloss. It would show that they know what I like, and that they thought to give me an appropriate gift. To me, the giving WITH THOUGHT is the most important, not the cost. (I'm stretching here, but maybe Tim collects toy airplanes???)
  24. Poodle mix dogs can be very expensive. There is a breeder in my area selling golden doodles for around $2000. She must have found a good grift. I have read articles about Amish puppy mills. I hope this is not a puppy mill dog.
