  1. I was very impressed that Jill was nicely and appropriately dressed. No tin man dress, no flashy gown with a modesty panel. I wonder how she felt not being included in the wedding party. It was nice to see that they put some effort into the reception. No melting ice cream, apparently no stupid pranks. This so, so much nicer than Nurie's reception. I wonder if Jill was banned from organizing, or even helping. It did not have that "certain touch".
  2. But remember--Nurie and her husband can't be bothered to put their "precious blessing" in a car seat. Traveling far from home just before her due date probably did not even occur to her. I doubt they have that much common sense.
  3. I lived in an Eichler in Palo Alto when I was a little kid. 3 small bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen that was its own room (not "open concept"), dining room, living room. It did have a unique "style", but I can't see it for a family now as it was designed then. It seems buyers today want more space. There were several Eichlers in the neighborhood. I didn't realize I had lived in such a "special" house. It actually seemed "flimsy" compared to the old houses I have lived in. Drastic remodeling would certainly ruin the aesthetic of the house. I'm sure that house is priced over a million now.
  4. Probably an example of her excellent home schooling. She really may not know the correct word.
  5. My guess is that they are a "gift". They look brand new, and BME wouldn't be buying new. Is the other girl on the horse wearing shoes with heels? Those shoes look new, too. Maybe someone from the church took them shoe shopping.
  6. We are getting rain and very high wind right now. It looks like it is snowing in the mountains--they are totally blocked out by the storm. They predicted measurable snow in the mountains today/tonight, but I will not be surprised if we have snow on the ground here tomorrow. We are under a wind restriction today, but I haven't heard if it has been extended. It is really howling outside. I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere. I'm glad you had rain today. We need all we can get!!
  7. I couldn't walk in that "garden" with my (for real) bad knee, let alone someone recovering from a stroke having to use a mobility aid. I am not a gardener, but even I could do better than that. Of course, I know my garden limitations and would hire a professional to make a safe path to walk. I don't mind the rock ground cover, but have a level path and maybe a couple of raised beds. And I certainly would not post pictures of my "after" and "after". She really thinks highly of herself, doesn't she.
  8. I may be confusing the Rods with some other kids, but weren't they found to be cheating on their "standardized" tests a couple of years ago? If it as I remember it, then how can Jill continue "schooling" and testing as before? Wouldn't cheating require extra supervision during testing?
  9. I also think that others in her group will not let her forget how lucky she at least has a husband. According to the people with her beliefs, it seems that being married is the most important thing in a woman's life. (Never mind how sleazy a husband....) I don't think she could visit less often, or stop visiting, even if she wanted. He is still her "headship", for life, after all. I think the guilt trip would be very powerful.
  10. I think this is how these programs work. You tell billing you are self pay to get a lower rate. Then you submit the bills and the "company" is supposed to reimburse. If they don't pay the entire bill--at least you got the cash rate. I don't know if they tell billing they have no insurance, or if they say they have this program. I'm guessing they say they don't have insurance. This is not the way I would like to live regarding my or my family's health care. It does not seem very honest.
  11. It's scary that I have been reading about these people for that long!!
  12. The way I remember it, David and Prissy pulled off the road and stole pecans from someone's orchard. Maybe 3-4 years ago??
  13. I still think that any property in any of the kid's LLCs is there in name only. JB has to sign off on any sales.--or maybe the friendly attorney. I think it is a tax thing. Maybe some of the sons have some of their own property in a LLC, but I really think JB is the puppet master.
  14. Maybe Jinger has no memory of good home-cooked food. I know I don't. My mother was an ok cook, but she did not go out of her way to make special meals. She did not like vegetables, so we had mostly canned and frozen. Only iceberg lettuce. She did not like putting effort into her cooking. My grandma, who I really loved, was an awful cook. Truly, awful. I think my dad always ate so fast because he learned that the faster you eat, the less you taste. He loved the food in the Navy. I don't cook anything special for myself. I cook to live, not necessarily to enjoy. (but I love going out to fine dinning restaurants, and appreciate good food.) I can eat the same thing day after day, but I do eat fresh vegetables and healthy food. I think Jinger probably had food to live growing up, and does not know anything else. TTC and tuna with barbecue sauce is food is not an example of fine dining. She truly has never had good cooking experiences (I identify). Cooking videos are probably not the best thing for her to do. '
  15. Maybe he needs to sit down to tie his shoes, and he doesn't want to sit on the sand.
  16. I hope they don't have to replace or unstick the flapper in the toilet any time soon. I'm not sure there is room to get your hand into the tank to do any kind of repairs. Otherwise the "parsonage house" is nicely decorated. I'm glad Nurie was able to decorate without the aid of BME.
  17. I have had Whirlpool refrigerators for many years (including their KitchenAid line), and I have never had any problems. Whirlpool makes Whirlpool, Maytag and Amana refrigerators in Amana, Iowa. I think GE's are made in Kentucky.
  18. I guess the alternate juror paid attention, because it did not take too long to get a verdict. I wish he would just say where he hid the body. I'm sure this conviction brought some closure for the family but I'm sure they would still like to recover her body. It is really too bad that the campus cops did not take her disappearance seriously at the very beginning. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from this case. I hope they got the right suspect in the Stockton serial murders. My friends are afraid to go out to dinner at night anymore. The police were questioning residents on streets very close to where I used to live, which was in the "good" part of town (and yes, there is an Olive Garden near by.) Stockton is having its share of hard times right now.
  19. A big THANK YOU to those who recommended Talbots pants. I ordered the stretch cords in 2 lengths, and the petite fit perfectly. I just found out that there is a Talbots store about an hour away, so I will make the return in person and buy more of the pants in different colors. These will be so nice this Fall and Winter. Now if I can find some tops and maybe a blazer.......... Question: do these pants shrink when washed in cold water? The length is perfect right now.
  20. This may be what a friend has. She lost her insurance from work when she moved, and cannot start MediCare until next year, so she is using as a "fill-in". They do seem to pay medical bills, but have some very stringent requirements. She is charged more because her blood pressure is slightly higher than they want--maybe the high end of the normal range. I know they ask if you are a smoker, but I'm not sure if that totally disqualifies you, or you are just charged a higher rate. Routine medical bills do get paid, but she has never had anything serious. I agree with @Ohiopirate02, if the company did not pay bills, no one would sign up.
  21. They finally arrested a suspect in the serial murders in Stockton CA. Five men have been shot and killed, one woman shot but survived and another woman who says he tried to get into her house. The guy was armed when arrested. The murders were not too far from my former neighborhood where I lived in Stockton. Another reason I am glad that I moved. Very creepy!
  22. Yeah. I used to live around the corner from the Smart family, and I taught in the same district as Kristin's mother. I have moved away, but I still have interest in the case.
  23. Do you think Janelle would think of doing this? That would take work.
  24. I have a question our law friends here. In a murder/missing person trial, are the jurors instructed not to discuss the case with their priest in confession? I am following a trial in CA about a girl that has been missing for about 20 years. The former boyfriend and his father are on trial, since new evidence has been found. They still do not have her body, however. The case is now in deliberation. Apparently, one juror talked about the case during confession, and then told another juror about it. The confessing juror has been dismissed, and an alternate was sworn in. Now they have to begin the deliberations all over again. Does this kind of thing happen often?
