Well, to be honest, someone has to. This isn't a small issue, because I was thinking about it last night and wondering how on earth they could make it work without her. I mean, if they didn't want to pay Michelle Fairley for a largely voiceless part couldn't they have just hooded her? She doesn't even look like Cat at this point, and I was looking forward to making Schroedinger jokes. But it's a bit odd with what she sets in motion to say they can just cut it. Furthermore, it's a bit galling to consider that they were okay with the mutineer story being a group of men sitting around raping and murdering, but it's super boring for Cat and the BwB to murder Freys, who had it coming? Exactly what are you saying about your show when you make that statement?

The Winds Of Winter: Book 6 Will Arrive...Someday
DigitalCount replied to GreyBunny's topic in A Song Of Ice And Fire
There's also a perspective issue here. Tywin Lannister wasn't a POV character in the books. However, he was very much the main villain on the show, or at least a representative of the evil empire, complete with villain theme song, pet monster, and fan adoration. Killing him was a bigger deal than, say, killing Oberyn, but neither had a POV. -
Season Eight: Doomsday Cometh - Failsday Stayeth.

In my head, poor Clark is still in that hole under the rubble. "How did you survive?" "I don't know" somehow still has the power to tick me off something fierce. -
Season Eight: Doomsday Cometh - Failsday Stayeth.
DigitalCount replied to BkWurm1's topic in Smallville [V]
One of the biggest problems I had this season in particular was how fast and loose they played with terminology and consistency. Things like calling Davis a human or a Kryptonian when he wasn't really either bugged, but more so when they affected the story. Clark lost his faith in humanity because of Davis? How did that work? I won't get into the rushed and shoddy resolution where Davis is suddenly evil, but using black kryptonite to split him had some serious boundaries that weren't respected. Both times it was used, it broke the person in question into an amoral, selfish and violent form and a moral, caring form. Neither side had any other traits that didn't get shared. Yet somehow, it split Davis into Doomsday, the powerful killing machine, and Davis, the depowered... killing machine? Not two Davises, both with powers but opposing moral viewpoints? So, Lana becomes a green lightning bug and can't be around Clark. But then it wasn't a good idea for her to fight Davis? I get that this is an actress limitation, but she really could have helped. Although it would be dumb for Clark to endanger her when he could have just sent Doomsday to the future. I never understood why that option was off the table anyway. Other than Clark's pride, of course. -
/forum To be honest, I think Paige's exit is one of the least implausible things this show has thrown at us. And considering how they cycle through side characters (man, I still remember how Garrett was a Johnny-come-lately at one point, like his sudden inclusion in hugely plot-related elements seemed jarring at the time, what a thought) I can't see that this should be considered some significant piece of evidence. That's probably my biggest peeve about this series. There are so many things that seem dictated by BTS issues, and when you're doing a mystery story with ONE SINGLE MYSTERY running through season after season, you can't have the answers decided by actors just up and getting new roles, or heavily biased Twitter surveys. Something is going to be aggressively retconned when it comes to the final reveal, but hopefully it won't be on a Dan is Gossip Girl level. <= did not watch Gossip Girl

Considering that A never went after Aria for kissing Ezra's freaking brother, I can't imagine that she has much to worry about. It's also a reason why I don't think Mike could have been A at any time; he would have jumped on that since he seemed to hate the Ezria relationship back in the day and blame the Montgomerys' breakup partially on that. I can't remember how he feels about the two of them now, but he seemed less than impressed with Ezra last episode, so that seems in line with this too.
-
Wonder if Ted is gonna propose. That sounds interesting. Aria on a wild goose chase, what new territory for her to cover.
-
It would be hilarious if even Aria's split personality was trying to break up Ezria. I like the reminder that she's at least peripherally aware of the problems with their relationship, even if she's a child and thus not fully equipped to unpack them.

That's the thing, why would a vampire get married (especially in this universe)? Seems a bit silly to talk about lifelong commitments in that context. I got the same feeling that it was just an example, but you know enough chatter in response would have then thinking seriously along those lines. On topic, I'm excited that maybe they might be forced to end at 7 since they'd lose some people otherwise. This could be known as a show that got wobbly in the middle but tightened it up in time for the end, or it could be a show that somehow managed to find a new basement of suck every season and never recovered. Here's hoping for Kevin Williamson to surprise us all and return.

Maybe it's April's wedding, lol. I can see them all getting dolled up for bridesmaid duty, but yeah, no marriages between the mains please. At least not yet.

S05.E14: Through a Glass, Darkly
DigitalCount replied to AmandaPanda's topic in Pretty Little Liars [V]
Obviously the motive is something weird. My theory that is totally serious and not at all tongue in cheek: One of the girls was given some critical piece of info either on purpose or by accident (like on the order of state secrets), and then brainwashed so she wouldn't remember it unless the memory was triggered by a very specific traumatic experience. Unfortunately, the person who knew which girl it was and what the trigger was died somehow, so A has been using trial and error ever since to get the information. Because let's be honest, what exactly would justify so much dogged torture otherwise? I also wonder if they're getting rid of Caleb, with the "Aria has hacking skills now" storyline. I agree that it makes no sense for her to have had the computer. Speaking of, what happened to Aria's karate skills? She didn't even try to drop A from right in front of her. Get a grip, Aria (unless you're crazy and A, in which case carry on). -
The freaking trial episode. Yikes. I just try not to listen to what's happening during the trial and pretend they're just talking about cupcakes and football, because even before I went to law school I knew it was bad. And the big problem was that they framed the result as being part of the crapsack noir world where the rich get away with everything, but this wasn't about rich vs. poor. Lily Kane was America's sweetheart, gone too soon, daughter of software giant Jake Kane. The guy who invented YouTube and swore revenge in the last season finale is just going to roll over for a lawyer apparently trying to get a high score in Legal Malpractice 2: Inadmissible Evidence? Freaking what?

S05.E14: Through a Glass, Darkly
DigitalCount replied to AmandaPanda's topic in Pretty Little Liars [V]
I don't know. On the one hand it seems like it makes sense and explains the fainting spell which otherwise makes no sense, but on the other this will be the fourth character that was dead and then SURPRISE! is still alive after Ali, Toby and Darren. On a more humorous note, how about the girls lightly jogging to the porch when firecrackers started raining down? Good hustle, ladies. Emily could have some sparking embers to go with the glass in her hair. -

Are we sure that the attack on Aria actually even happened? Just saying, it wouldn't be the first time she hallucinated something. The attacker never dropped Mike's phone or gave it back, yet by the end of the episode Aria gives Mike back his phone... -

I just always found that to be one of the biggest deals that they never followed up on, and it was such a juicy clue too. I guess if that's the way they work it makes sense that they're constantly remembering info in flashbacks that they should have already known. -
Morality in Storybrooke / Social Issues: Threads Combined!

I have a problem with calling Malcolm's death a murder-suicide. In my view Pan was more dangerous than Cora, and he had no problem telling his son to his face that he'd drop the hammer on his loved ones. That makes this equal to Cora becoming the Dark One. -

Heh, I was so thrown by the awfulness of Ezraboxers that I forgot something else that was funny to me: Aria puts the money in the Salvation Army guy's bucket and he gives them an A message? Why would something like that be left up to that much chance? Of course, it was Aria who put the money in, so perhaps it wasn't chance at all, but that would require me to think about this show and that's in the past now. -

Can someone remind me what it was that Maya knew? I feel like I've asked this before and either have forgotten or didn't see the answer. EDIT: I mean, I remember that she knew her stalker, Lyndon, but that seems like an odd thing to say in code, and it doesn't seem to fit. -
I've felt that was a retcon for a while now. Yes, Elena's blood should be really potent, because Qetsiyah used the power of Amara/Katherine/Elena for some random spell she was doing, and if anything it should be more powerful--the fact that Stefan and Elena were the last doppelgangers (and actually the last ones possible, unless someone copies Qetsiyah's Immortal spell) was what enabled the Travelers to do their thing. However, prior to last season they strongly suggested that vamping a doppelganger makes them no longer useful as a spell booster. But yes, doppels make undoing spirit magic possible, so Kai may want her for that purpose.

I honestly think this thing has been well staked. I don't see Stefan as being emotionally tied to Elena like that anymore. It was a long time in coming, but I think he was a little disgusted by her decision to mindwipe herself. Beyond that, he's simply over these people. He's essentially where Damon was in early S4 from the look of things, except he actually said "screw it" and tried to peace out once his brother died. And the most significant emotional connection he has right now outside of Damon is with Caroline, and his new nemesis is Enzo (he said without laughing). I don't think the pursuit of Elena is relevant to him anymore, it's a part of his life that happened and is no longer happening, like how Matt has pretty much accepted it too. (Remember how Matt used to date Elena? Neither do I) Stefan will clearly always care about Elena, but I don't think he's felt love for her in a good long while. I wonder how much of that is Paul Wesley.

I know Tatiana Maslany is still winning that particular fight, but still. So I realized that we didn't have a thread for other things this cast does, which may become something of a big deal soon with Kat Graham's rumored future (past?) role on the horizon. Thus, here it is. Talk about Degrassi, Lost, Smallville, Everwood, Prison Break and all that good stuff coming up as well. (uh, Cult was a thing too, I guess)
-
I would be so glad of that, because it would give the lie to the earlier comments about Bonnie and Kol, as if morality ever had anything to do with what decisions people make on this show. The only reason why Bonnie hasn't gotten in the dirt with the rest of these blood-soaked psychopaths is because the writers simply didn't care about writing for her. And I just realized that this isn't a "cast in other roles" thread, so...lol

It's hardly unique to the Dothraki though. Lannisters "paying their debts" is pretty much the same thing with Big Bro Clegane at the helm.

Things the Show Gets Right: A Positivity Thread

The best thing was how CeCe looked so sad and lame for assuming that they even remotely cared about that nonsense. Yes, sometimes the show works.
