The main reason why the twin theory doesn't work for me is because Ali would know she had a twin sister. Considering she never even seems to suspect that this person may want to hurt her, when she went through each of the people she thought were sending her messages, I don't believe Courtney exists on the show. Even if Ali had been told that this girl died at some point in the past, Ali herself has faked her death. If she was never told and Courtney was somehow shipped away before Ali became aware of her, then either Jessica would have told Ali when she escaped, or Ken would have told her when Ali came back from being "kidnapped," if only because "twin sister who went crazy" would be at the top of the list of suspects. None of the DiLaurentis family members behave as if Ali has a sister, so I can't accept that as the solution. Re: this episode - Spencer's outfit. what Look at Aria, actually growing some relevance. I call BS on Emily not being able to take these people in a fistfight. But see, that's why you should go back to Paige, Emily. Aria knew the importance of dating Jake, and when Aria's strategy for staying alive is better than yours, you need to rethink a few things. Hurray for Spencer letting Aria have it with at least one barrel. I'm guessing that once she's no longer dressed up like one of the 7 Dwarfs, she'll be able to make a stronger argument. Poor Hanna, all she was trying to do was save the show by sending Ali back to Neverl...uh, Purga...I mean, back into hiding. Agreed that Emily isn't exactly thinking with her big brain here. At the same time, at least she's conflicted about it.

I don't really think this is fair. Sean had a moral objection to premarital sex, and he tried to help her understand where he was coming from. If the roles were reversed Hanna wouldn't even need a reason not to have sex with him, but she was essentially asking him to forsake his belief system on her behalf.

In S4 I would have accepted Clark/sane!Alicia had I known I'd never get Chlark. And I remember a time when I thought Ageless was the lamest episode ever, just because it was boring and didn't really make sense. Oh, for a time when Ageless could still have that title.

But Elena was awesome at the beginning, whereas I really thought these girls sucked out loud. It's like opposing trajectories, because now I can actually watch these people without burning my eyes out, but Elena is currently horrible. Two things: 1) I actually thought the "toxic people get broomed--OH HAI JENNA LET ME SAVE YOU" was really well done. How sad it is that this is such a realistic outcome, but it was pretty good writing IMO. 2) On the other hand, Lucas' character suffered in this episode. I kind of got the feeling he was intentionally getting Hanna drunk, and I feel that's a bit too far and doesn't seem true to the character. Of course he'd provide a distraction. But getting her as drunk as possible has some subtext that is a bit-too "bitter frat boy" and not really all that "slightly refurbished hipster" if that makes any sense. It was icky, for lack of a better term.

THIS. All through that speech she was giving him, I was wondering if she completely lacked any self-awareness at all. Yes, Jason was probably a harder dude when Violet met him than now. Well gee, why do you think that is, you witless caricature? Violet's spent her entire time as a character hacking away at his self-esteem, degrading him, emasculating him and she suddenly wonders why he's more sensitive to the plight of people victimized by vampires?

Relationship Thread: Dysfunction Junction
DigitalCount replied to RachelKM's topic in The Vampire Diaries [V]
I really thought I was alone in this belief. I always felt like the way they portrayed Klaus and Rebekah, especially in the ancient past, was just a teensy bit Lannister. Furthermore, they both seem pathologically unable to walk away from each other. -
Maybe the worst character, but easily one of the best actresses--LM and Maxine are two of the most realistic bottom-feeders I've ever seen on TV. I'm continually amazed at Rev. Daniels though; he seems like a stand-up guy, but didn't he cheat on his wife with LM? He doesn't seem like a manipulative jerk, even though given his actions he should be (and perhaps he was in the past?) but he just comes off as a man trying to offer hope and do the right thing. Speaking of that family, Lala has the right idea: screw all of this, get baked and plastered, call it a freaking day. Unfortunately that gives him very little inclusion in the main storyline. I am pleased as punch that Sookie's idiocy continues to have repercussions later on. Her tantrum last episode left other people in danger when she could have helped, and Andy would surely have wanted to know that his daughter was in the midst of an angry mob. I'm just glad that this wasn't thrown away without resolution, it was at least partially preventable, and Sookie's actions contributed to how things unfolded. I was a bit thrown by Andy's assertion that "a man ain't nothin' without a family" but I was happy about the outcome: getting Jason to stop munching on that three-day-old pizza! Holy mackerel was I cringing. It was out for almost three freaking days and Jason's all "chow time"? Ugh. Andy, you can give all the weird nonsensical speeches you want if they have that quick a turnover for results. And maybe it's just me (a POC) but it sure did leave a bad taste in my mouth when Vince's crony told Kenya she was passed over for the deputy position because of her WOC status...a single episode after Tara was killed off-screen in the first five minutes of the final season. So how many episodes is she going to spend being as blasphemous as possible until she finally spits out the reveal that LM killed her? Who's got bets in that pool?

Chloe Sullivan: Let's Be Real, She was the Real Lois Lane!
DigitalCount replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Smallville [V]
But she wasn't really a blonde...lol I know, it's a quote. I liked Chloe better when the show didn't pretend she was hideous, unlovable and undeserving of life. Kick-the-Chloe was quite possibly the dumbest game ever created, and yet TPTB couldn't stop playing it. Part of this is AM's fault for cornering the market on acting like someone is tap-dancing on her heart without doing her the courtesy of taking it from her chest first, but the writers' determination from S2 onward (with the exception of S5) to make sure that Chloe's life sucked, full stop, was almost surreal. -
Argh, Gertrude's ancestors argh. That was so much fail. You wouldn't think a plot of a show could be "three of the main female characters get possessed by witches, get freaky with high schoolers, ruin Clark's life and then turn back with no repercussions whatsoever" but Smallville would prove you wrong. It's especially galling given that it comes on the heels of Clark acting weirdly OOC, coming back to himself and getting shunned like he invented leprosy. And the less said about Bound, the better.

Just watched the S7 premiere. I remember how excited I was that Sookie seemed to have grown a brain last season, but something must have happened over the hiatus. Oh well. RIP, Sookie's Brain. I guess we should call you Snooki now. (zzzzzing!)

I didn't mean to give the impression that I don't like Season 5. It's probably the season that encapsulates what I think of when I think "Smallville." You wouldn't have heard me complaining if they'd ended with Vessel. Well, actually, I would have complained, because I would have wanted to see more, but knowing what I know now...it's a tough choice. But Season 5 was when I personally returned to Smallville after watching it only somewhat sporadically during S2-S4; it's the first season where I started watching every episode and viewing them as parts of a whole rather than assorted and interchangeable.

So let's see: Clark dies in Hidden and Void. Lex dies in Void. Lana dies in Thirst, Reckoning, and Void. Chloe attempts suicide in Tomb. Lionel attempts suicide in Mercy. Jonathan dies in Reckoning. Sheriff Nancy Adams dies in Lockdown. Victor is reported dead before the events of Cyborg. So yeah. People die in this one. I still remember Clark being comforted by Martha at the end of Vengeance and thinking that it was some of TW's best work. I think this was also the first season where Lionel inexplicably still had power and influence in Luthorcorp but it didn't really make sense.

Yeah, I never really forgave Smallville for glossing over the huge medical and scientific finding of the dangers of kryptonite psychosis, not to mention its ridiculous properties. 2 meteor showers resulted in 2 separate events of making people crazy and giving them powers, and the fact that the CDC had already signed off on them having no negative properties was appalling to say the least. On topic, I have to say S3 seemed to be the last season where stuff that happened in the past actually mattered, with the possible exception of some of S7. The first 3 seasons are almost an arc of their own relative to some of the rest of the story, and S3 concludes a lot of those plot threads. Clark and Lex's bridge adventure is given closure in both Extinction and of course Covenant. Pete's character, as Clark's best friend for this period, leaves the series in Forsaken. Lana leaves Smallville and the Talon behind--while she returns the next season, she is a changed character.

Maybe it was a last-straw thing. Like just the extra minute of keeping your face in that weird position even after your mother told you not to; that last minute was what made it stay that way. Also, the Travelers seemed to do some travmagic spell to make it possible for Markos to get back that also involved their deaths in mass numbers (now that makes me wonder what Amara must have been going through when they killed Kol) so it's possible that had something to do with it. Furthermore, transferring the anchor position from an Immortal to a zombie seems like not exactly the best investment in the world if you're looking for longevity.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing about Emily. She really took Ali's side this time around. I also thought it was interesting how his reaction to the situation was outrage that they suspected him of kidnapping. Presumably, since that didn't happen, he's not actually responsible for what did happen, unless he thought of that and decided not to be angry for the wrong reason. He sure did look quite different with the hat on, though. I actually really liked Ali in the hoodie at the end; it was sort of a role reversal, like Mona pointed out. Instead of A being the one hiding and needing to conceal her actions, now it's Ali, hiding in plain sight, unable to do anything or talk to anyone, afraid in the dark. The tone-setting of this show has always been its strong point, even if the plot falls apart after one good tug on any given thread, so I guess we should focus on that?

I don't know, she was all "5 Kings 5 Kings 5 Kings...oh wait the war of the 5 kings can go screw itself." It seemed like she just got a sense of which way the wind was blowing. I don't deny she has mojo in spades, even after the Oz reveal, but she doesn't seem as useful as she wants Stannis to think she is.

I was under the impression that the Branvisions were the stated exception to the no-flashbacks rule.

I'm pretty sure they had the straw men, they just didn't say anything about it. In that early scene where they're lighting up the torches I could have sworn there were fake dudes standing at attention. They were either made of straw or some of the most disciplined soldiers I've ever seen. -

That tunnel scene was crazy good. By the end of it I was reciting the words with them, and I didn't even know I knew the words. Maybe when all is said and done, Westeros can add a song to its repertoire, The Six at the Gate.
