  1. Also how bad does your brain tumor have to be if it is incurable in the MCU. Based on the tech we have seen on this show and in age of Ultron, an artificial brain transplant should have been a viable option even. I kind of liked that scene and am glad they didn't try and show her actually kicking all those guys asses. But they should have at least spent a few more bucks and made it a glass walled elevator.
  2. Finally catching uo on this season and i was impressed, actually surprised how well this episode worked. For most of the LMD arc it has been bugging the shit out of me how good the technology had gotten. Too good for even the MCU. But here i didn't mind. And i loved all the little background stuff like Alexander Pierce high school. At first the only thing that bugged was how the framework didn't notice that 2 AI characters had become real, but they even explained that. The only thing im really wondering is if no Agent Coulson means no Avengers, then who stopped the Chautari? Although i guess Aida has no idea who Thanos is and can just delete Loki all together if she wants to.
  3. I guess it would depend on the partnership agreement but even if Chuck wasn't practicing wouldn't he still be getting his share of the firm's profit. He wouldn't be getting a salary of course, but owning part of the company would entitle him to profits right?
  4. Speaking of HHM i imagine they would carry a pretty big life insurance policy for one of their name partners. If the buy out wasn't officially on paper yet that payout could probably allow the firm to buy out Chuck's share and make some money on top of it.
  5. Finally caught up on season 3, and I am not sure why but i was way more into it than season 1 or 2. Got to say though i felt bad for the set designers and builders who put together the Chuck's house set. The set was super nice and those built in shelves that he was tearing up looked awesome. That said McKean's final decent into madness was done really welk by him. The way he played it super crazy, but just coherent enough to realize there was no coming back from this, to the point where he felt death wss his only option really worked for me. And of course an asshole like Chuck is going to go for the most attention grabbing death ever. One thing i didn't get was the HHM deal. Why were the only options either the firm buying the shares and going bankrupt or Howard buying them and blowing all his saving? Couldn't the shares get just spread out among other partners? I am sure there are a bunch of other partners who would love to increase their equity. I have never worked for a law firm, but i did used to work for an engineering firm where i owned a bit of equity. And that is exactly what happened when a senior partner retired; everyone else was given a chance to buy his shares.
  6. I never thought that Courtney had Kurt killed. There was a radio show about it i listened to years ago. Most of what they call evidence is Kurt acting irrationally; like why did he load multiple shells in the shotgun if 1 is all it took. But the guy was a heavy duty heroin addict on a pretty big bender, nothing he would i expect to be rational. Plus Courtney love does not seem like the type of person to have her shit togeter enough to pull off a murder for hire. Plus she is not a good enough actress to fake her emotion when she read the note at the memorial. I love documentaries about comics. This and the Jerry Seinfeld: Comedian one were great. The amount of work they put into fabricating every last word of a set is amazing, to the point where it has to lose all its funny is really interesting. Joan's huge library card catalog with jokes on every subject was great. I watched this on PBS years ago, American Experience i think. It was super facinating to find out the actual information on something that gets referenced so often. I had no idea about the US congressman that was killed. And the people forced to drink poison at gun point was really sad. It was just amazing how many people followed this crazy conman with stupid sunglasses all the way to Guyana.
  7. Even with pay transparency you still need actors on the other side of the table using that information to try and get more money, and not signing if they don't . If they don't ask for it you can really expect to just be given it. The funny thing is if it was just Alex O'Laughlin making more than everyone else you could make an argument for it. I mean he is the lead, he is probably in the most scenes (so longest days) and he probably does the stunts/fight scenes. But Scott Caan getting more than Daniel Dae Kim? Does somebody at CBS think The Godfather is a documentary and his dad is actually in the mafia? Because as i mentioned in a Hawaii 5-0 episode thread other than the acrobat guy (who isn't even an actor) and the computers guy he is the least famous of the Oceans 11 crew.
  8. So what is the fix, other than actors like Daniel Dae Kim saying "this is what i am worth, if you want someone of my level of fame/talent/fanbase this is what i expect to be paid". When they decide not to and get some second rate, low budget replacement i fully expect ratings to go down. If actors do that enough times things will change. Because it is not like studios are going to give anyone more money out of the goodness of their hearts. And roles and actors are so different, with so many variables, that negotiations almost always have to be an individual thing. If they weren't Jim Carrey wouldn't have made 140 times as much as Jeff Daniels for Dumb and Dumber.
  9. I don't know, anytime i hear one of these stories the first thing i wonder is if the person getting paid less asked to be paid more, and if they were willing to walk if they did not get it. The fact that Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park did is good in that respect. The show will almost certainly take a ratings hit and next time they are on a show the producers will know not to jerk them around. As for Jennifer Lawrence, at her fame level she should have been able to negotiate just about any salary she wanted. The fact that money was left on the table is on her agent. Just because other stars got more money doesn't obligate the studio to give her more, just out of the goodness of their heart. In fact their actual obligation is to try and pay stars as little as possible.
  10. Good for them for taking a stand if they felt they were worth more. It seems like too many actors take the deal offered to them only to later complain they aren't or didn't make as much as a costar. But its a negotiation and it is up to the actor to try and get what they want, not the studio to just give it to them. And a big part of that is being prepared to walk away if you don't get offered what you want.
  11. At least Leanne's has a bit of an excuse as Amish only go to school up until grade 8.
  12. I can easily see a lot of people, not having access to any medical care so a lot less need for doctors and nurses. Especially if you aren't a commander; if you get cancer you don't need chemo or anything because your illness is God's will.
  13. I see what you are saying. But at the same time Jesus, at least Mexican Jesus, is still helping people and performing miracles to maintain his belivers. Why hasn't or didn't Odin do the same thing? And I don't know about Odin, but for a lot of other ancient gods, aren't there mythological stories of them interacting with humans?
  14. So if Odin wants to be worshiped why doesn't he just make public displays of his powers? That would get his some followers pretty fast. Is he just relying on ancient Norse legends? I mean say what you will about media and technology but they are constantly updating to stay relevant. It is not liked they stopped inventing computers after the first pc was launched and expected people to still give a shit decades later.
  15. I'm not saying she's not talented (although i have never really watched SCTV, which is probably grounds for forfeiting my Canadian passport), it's just everytime i hear her voice i hear the announcer lady from Elmo's tv.
  16. Honestly, for me the only chance this show has of grabbing me as a viewer is if The Defenders is just awesome. Like crazy good to the point where i want to check out every thing else on tv that marvel has to offer. Because right now Inhumans doesn't look that great, and Marvel's tv track record lately hasn't been so great recently either. So if Defenders is just ok i probably won't bother with this. Also the guy who plays Blackbolt so does not look like a strong enough actor to play a character who never speaks.
  17. Interesting episode, but I was a little confused (and I've read the book). Because i thought Odin wanted to go to war with the new gods because the old gods have been forgotten and have lost their powers. But he was literally able to call down the thunder and Ostara was able to wipe out all that plant life. So what exactly are they fighting for?
  18. I believe they can't call it macaroni and cheese here because orange powder is not considered cheese in the eyes of the law.
  19. I imagine they wouldn't have to have a smaller military. First off no, women, no gays and no catholics or jews who refuse to denounce their faith. Plus I imagine the pacific fleet based in Hawaii would still be under US control. Plus any educated science types who think Gilead's ideas are bullshit, who are the kind of people you need to run a modern military (you can't refer to scripture to figure out how to fix a radar). As far as your comparison of Afghanistan and Iraq to Canada one other interesting point is that with those countries, spies or insurgents or infiltrators would be much easier to spot just because they look different. If Gilead tried to take Canada spies would look just like them, talk just like them and generally know most of the same cultural references.
  20. I really like this show the writing is improving at a crazy good rate. The serious hustle was hilarious. That said i realized that the main reason i know Andrea Martin is all the voice work she does for Sesame Street, usually during the Elmo's World segment my kids used to love. And it is kind of bugging me.
  21. On the other hand if Canada loses its biggest trade partner and birth rates are way down they could be in desperate need of immigrants. I'm no ecomist but Canada is rich in resources and has a trade deficit with the US. So if the counrty wants to be able to have stuff and be more self-sufficient, bringing in immigrants and building up manufacturing would probably be a good idea, I'm really surprised there isn't more of an insurgency or rebellion. They mentioned in this episode how some Martha's were arrested for plotting something. Now I get that an organized resistance is difficult with that much policing, but why not more lone fighter type thing. But I would think that with so many people with nothing to live for (Janine, the previous Offred) you would think they would want to take some of these assholes with them. Sure getting a gun is probably impossible, but are Handmaids or Marthas burning their commander's houses down or killing them in their sleep or attacking wives or poisoning them?
  22. As far as the military goes i am not sure i see those anti science dumb asses operating an aircraft carrier or super sonic jet. Also the current us military is about 15% women, so at very minimum t he Gilead military is that much smaller.
  23. I was expecting that as soon as the handmaids walked away you would hear a single gunshot. It is not really an outside military group taking out the US military. It would be one faction of the military taking out another faction. And if it was Gilead against the US I could see it as other countries viewing it as a civil war and staying out. But if Gilead attacks Canada then NATO agreements and other treaties would kick in and it would be whatever was left of the US and there anti-technology society versus just about the rest of the world.
  24. I really wish Barba had asked either the rapist, or the creepy reverend, if this kind of curative intercourse is a part of their church and members think it is important, then why is it something that is done as a surprise without getting consent from both people doing it. You would think if it was something that everyone in their church believed in, getting agreement before hand wouldn't be a problem. Also you would think in their eyes, that both people enjoying thing would make the cure more effective, which I think would be infinitely less likely if one person was forced to do it. I also wish Barba had asked the rev, what happens if curative intercourse leads to pregnancy.
  25. I just figured, as someone who has never watched the Blacklist, it was a case of Spader being a relatively big star (multiple emmy winner, Ultron, etc) and Megan Boone being someone i have never heard of.
