  1. This! And not only William Bradford's name. In the passage Prof. Gates had him read, he seemed to breeze right over the mention of Capt. Standish. Seriously, Miles Standish didn't ring a bell either? I was gobsmacked! (I don't think I've ever used that adjective to describe my reaction before, but it's the only word that fits this situation.)
  2. I put up with Dr. Oz for two weeks but I may have to draw the line at Joe Buck. πŸ˜• OTOH, I'm delighted to hear that Buzzy will host the TOC. I've liked him from the start and I think he'll do well.
  3. Seriously, they should at least have required Cliff and not just Arquette, after showing a photo of Charley Weaver. And yes, on the Debbie Reynolds gimme, I was expecting them to ask for the names of Billie Lourd's maternal grandparents. Way too simple otherwise. I thought I noticed an echo as I was yelling at my screen! I can't help it. Every time there's a William Blake question, my mind goes right here:
  4. BAFTA Winners: Film: Nomadland Director: Chloe Zhao Actress: Frances McDormand Actor: Anthony Hopkins Supporting Actress: Yuh-Jong Youn Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya Adapted Screenplay: The Father Original Screenplay: Promising Young Woman Other winners can be found here: https://www.bafta.org/film/awards/2021-nominations-winners
  5. The Tonys and Grammys lend themselves perfectly to live performances. That's just not the case with the Oscars, with the possible exception of Best Original Song and even then, I'm just fine with all five nominees being condensed into a medley. Live performances at the Oscars have a history of being...not good.
  6. I'm laughing because as I'm reading this thread and your post, I am actually eating a Mounds Bar. πŸ˜„ Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks!
  7. I haven't read the comics so this is pure speculation on my part, but I'm thinking that Titan may be Amber's father.
  8. Yes. I was kind of expecting exactly that, and from the shocked look on Bucky's face, it seemed to me that he was thinking the same thing. Sebastian Stan's performance in this entire episode was outstanding.
  9. That's exactly what she said. I immediately went back and listened to it twice more. Nice call back. T'Challa references the goddess Bast when telling Natasha about the Wakandan view of death, afterlife and the ancestral plane when they spoke outside shortly after King T'Chaka was killed. Speaking of T'Challa, in Civil War when he's fighting Captain America during the airport scene, he scratches his vibranium claws on Cap's shield and you can see the damage to the shield from the claw marks. Flash forward to the Ayo/Walker fight: Wakandan spears are vibranium tipped, yet there was no visible damage to the shield. I'm pretty sure we have confirmation that this shield is adamantium.
  10. Padma has written a children's book, Tomatoes for Neela, which she describes in this short video. It actually sounds delightful and you can tell that Padma's excited about it!
  11. So, Best Actress... Andra Day won the Golden Globe; Carey Mulligan won the Critics' Choice; and tonight, Viola Davis won the SAG. The prediction has been that Best Supporting Actress was the wide open race. After tonight, it sure seems as if Best Actress is wide open too! Ironic that it's playing out this way because it certainly seems that both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor are absolute locks for both Chadwick Boseman and Daniel Kaluuya, respectively.
  12. This was exactly what happened to me. I said 48 years instead of 52. I knew 1932 right away and then counted up to 1980 instead of 1984, with my mind confusing the two boycotted Olympics. I was very annoyed with myself for messing that one up. 😞
  13. I was fascinated by the train that rode on rails from Calabria, right on to the ferry to Sicily, and then back onto the rails to travel the island. I've been on several ferries where we drove our car right onto and off the boat; I've taken the AutoTrain to Florida, but there your car is treated as cargo. It's loaded separately and you're not in it! You take your seat on the train, or in our case we had a family cabin. But, I'd never before seen anything like the transfer Stanley's train made. That was definitely cool! I love train travel and I so wish that we had a much better passenger rail system in the U.S. I had to look it up. https://blog.eurail.com/sicily-train-ferry/
  14. I'll definitely give this one a watch. β€˜Wonder Years’ Reboot Pilot at ABC Casts Dulé Hill, Laura Kariuki
  15. Back to back new episodes tonight, with this one labeled as FINALE.
  16. Hey Malik, how about talking to your girlfriend, whose Mom more or less walked away from her. She might just have some good input. And whoa, I know Toby's a huge Star Wars fan, but was that actually a Grogu sighting on NBC!?! What kind of fee did Disney get for that?!?
  17. This, from the majority of Hollywood publicists, definitely has some teeth to it. Your move, HFPA. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-03-15/hollywood-publicists-warn-golden-globes-group-to-change-or-lose-access-to-star-clients?_amp=true&__twitter_impression=true
  18. Thanks for sharing the official rules here. Interesting. I'm sure others here know a lot of Oscar trivia, so it may not be necessary for me to mention this, but it really did happen one year and was the reason for a rule change! Barry Fitzgerald is the only actor to have received Leading and Supporting Actor nominations for the same performance in 1943's Going My Way. Voting rules were altered shortly after this occurred to prevent it from happening again. He won the Supporting Actor Oscar, with his co-star, Bing Crosby taking home the Oscar for Best Actor. Personal opinions: I am absolutely delighted that Lakeith Stanfield was nominated. I wasn't expecting that. He didn't seem to be in anyone's top five predictions and was not even mentioned as a dark horse. Great choice. Before this, I had Daniel Kaluuya as a lock for Supporting Actor. I wonder if this opens a path for a surprise win by Cohen, Odom or Raci. I only wish Dominique Fishback could have snagged a Supporting Actress nomination. I'm disappointed that Aaron Sorkin didn't get a Best Director nomination, especially after scoring one from the DGA. I'm very pleased that "Hear My Voice" did grab a nomination for Best Original Song. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it and thought it had Oscar winner all over it, but then it missed out on some of the other awards' nominations and I began to think its time had passed. Glad it got a nod. I don't think anyone should be sleeping on Andra Day in the Lead Actress category. JMO I see that neither of the stage to screen adaptations got a Best Picture nod. I'm not all that surprised that Ma Rainey's Black Bottom wasn't nominated. That film was all about the actors, but I thought One Night in Miami did deserve a tip of the cap from Oscar. The acting was superb and its screenplay was recognized. I thought Regina King did a great job of making a stage play much more cinematic.
  19. While I'm pleased by the Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin, I'm annoyed about the snub for him in the Best Director category. 😠 On the other hand, I'm delighted by the Best Original Song nomination for "Hear My Voice." It's a great song yet it has missed a couple of other nods. I was afraid it wouldn't get Oscar recognition.
  20. After his win for The Social Network, he was also nominated for Moneyball and for Molly's Game, but went home without his other bookend. πŸ˜₯ How he didn't receive a nomination for Steve Jobs is beyond me. I walked out of the theater and said to my friend, "They should just start engraving Aaron Sorkin's Oscar right now." So much for that prediction. πŸ™„ Most of the predictions I've been seeing online have him as the front-runner for the Original Screenplay Oscar for The Trial of the Chicago 7. I hope that holds, especially since he was snubbed for the Best Director nomination. 😠
  21. I happen to be a lifelong Yankees' fan and had to put up with A-Rod's continual drama for twelve seasons. In baseball when there's a player on your favorite team that you dislike, you root for the laundry, not for the person inside of it, but because I do like Jennifer Lopez, I had hoped that he had learned from his multitude of mistakes. They seemed like a perfect match; each of them being high maintenance diva types. They seemed to complement each other very well. I must say that having him cheat on one of the world's most famous, most beautiful and most talented women with a D-list reality TV cast member was not on my bingo card. Then again, cheaters gonna cheat. I'd suspect that Alex has already cast Madison aside, but no matter; she'll now be even more insufferable next season because of this brush with someone of A-Rod's level of fame. If there is a next season. I'm almost hoping there isn't.
  22. And, it's somewhat hidden at the collar, but "Agnes" does still have Agatha's mother's brooch.
  23. But NOT for the screenplay! I was screaming at my TV screen. 😠
  24. As a music geek, I immediately picked up on Ralph Bohner playing the first few notes of 311's song Amber, on his guitar. Lyric from that song: "Amber is the color of your energy."
