  1. What a gorgeous baby.; kudos to the casting of little Mateo. I'm amazed at how many scenes that baby is in given the constraints of using babies on set.
  2. Kudos to the costume people this week. Looked like Diane was channeling Kalinda in that turquoise leather suit. And loved Jackie's white pantsuit. It was good to see her again. It's been a while.
  3. "They made no attempt to hide Teresa's baby today." Why do you think she was hanging on to those flowers Tracy brought her? "So Sabrina would have to be about 5 months along. If she could be oblivious to her pregnancy for that long, I really must insist on a review of her nursing final exam" Not of unheard of in the soap world. I don't recall the precise details, but in the final months of Guiding Light, the actress playing Natalia was practically ready to pop when the character figured out she was preggers after pity sex with Frank at least 5 months earlier.
  4. "the dad's complete blindness to Dean's faults." So far, this is the only thing I can see irritating the shit out of me over the long haul. Loving everything else.
  5. Loved the pilot. -- perfect lead in to Jane the Virgin. And can any one confirm who's voicing the mother? It sounds like Tovah Feldshuh, but there's nothing on either her IMdB page or the show's.
  6. More from the New Yorker interview: Sad when the offscreen drama is more interesting than than the actual story. Same thing's happening on the daytime soaps, as well. I really lost interest when the ensemble storytelling dissolved into the Alicia show. http://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-question-at-the-heart-of-the-good-wife
  7. From the NY Times: 1990's Miss Gay America http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/11/fashion/weddings/randy-fenoli-of-say-yes-to-the-dress-is-a-brides-therapist.html?ref=fashion
  8. "LILLYBEE, ON 01 OCT 2015 - 01:21 AM, SAID: Everytime Avery is on screen, I start yelling at my TV, Lucky, wash your hair." "And shave that patchy beard." or, he could try this... http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/02/fashion/mens-style/baby-faced-men-opt-for-beard-transplants.html?ref=fashion
  9. " I hope that the episodes are not any more edited than they were at ABC Family (a few words being altered from time to time)." The UP (stands for uplifting) network used to be the Gospel Music Network. Not surprisingly, they are rather conservative. When they began airing Judging Amy, they would simply not air episodes that contained what they considered objectionably content, which gutted the serialized aspect of the storytelling. They didn't show last episode of the 1st season, when Vincent was shot, and the 1st (and maybe one more) episode of the 2nd. So viewers had no idea what had happened. But, recently they seem to be airing JA episodes I remember they skipped earlier, so maybe GG will fare better. We shall see...
  10. Saw this and couldn't help but think of JJ http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/02/fashion/mens-style/baby-faced-men-opt-for-beard-transplants.html?ref=fashion&_r=0
  11. "Maybe it's like bagels here in NY. We all eat them pretty regularly but I only know one person who has tried to make them at home." Perfect analogy! "I don't think the show set them up for disaster. I think they just overestimated what the bakers could do." This is what I was thinking when I questioned the wisdom of choosing that recipe. Also wonder about the takeaway from that recipe for the bakers. Some of the results were so FUBAR, were the bakers actually able to learn anything from their failures that they would be able to apply down the road?
  12. Why any woman in her 8th month would consider renovating or moving unless they absofuckinglutely had to is beyond me. Same for why the show selected them. It's not as though her husband had been transferred for work, or some other situation beyond their control. And even if she had gone full term, getting a house renovated in 4-5 weeks, or closing and settling into a new home in that same time frame is crazy.
  13. "On the technical bake the directions are purposefully vague. They occasionally make a point of how vague they are, stuff like "bake until done" without further explanation of temperature or time.On the technical bake the directions are purposefully vague. They occasionally make a point of how vague they are, stuff like "bake until done" without further explanation of temperature or time." I get the vague directions, and their purpose. However, as has been noted: this particular bake was a distaster across the board. Since the ethos of this show has never been to sandbag contestants, when 2/3 are outright failures, and the other 1/3 only marginally better, it seems to me that assigning this recipe was questionable, at best
  14. "That said, that Technical round was a disaster. lol worst I have ever seen on this show." Agreed, which I think says at least as much about the directions the bakers received as their technical skill (or, in this case, lack thereof:) I get that the directions assume a fair amount of knowledge and expertise, but almost every contestant turning out a substandard product defies the law of averages.
  15. "There were so many things wrong with this episode I would waste too much of my time pointing out all of them" Copy that. Didn't expect to clear out my DVR list last night, but not only axe Switched at Birth, but Chasing Life and Castle, as well.
  16. "Thank you Castle for making it easy to drop you on a Monday night. I had too many shows I was juggling so dropping one makes life a little easier. I can't believe what this show has turned into and tonight's episode was the icing on the cake :(" Me too:(. Sad to say, this is but one of several openings for Monday might. Just bailed on Chasing Life and Switched at Birth. Life's too short...
  17. This is the Last Week Tonight segment with Sami and EJ's "reunion." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=umqvYhb3wf4
  18. "Lucious is being tried federally. Riker's Island, at a guess, is for people being tried in the state system." I know that Frank Gathers was being investigated by the Feds, but I thought Lucious is charged with Bunkie's murder, which under most circumstances, would be a state charge. And for all the jokes about Club Fed, those are minimum security prisons for non-violent convicts. No way anyone charged with murder would await trial in one.
  19. Okay, I have no problem suspending disbelief, and I may be missing something here, however... Empire is set in NYC, where accused being held without bail are held at Riker's Island. Of course, my knowledge of the place comes from Law & Order, but Lucious's digs look like a freaking country club by comparison.
  20. From the NY TImes: Looks like Viola Davis is taking the high road, although I'd love to hear what, if anything she's said privately. "Q. For you it is about inclusion. A. If there has been any backlash, it’s that all people want to feel included in a speech. I know there has been some backlash with an actress who didn’t feel she was included. Q. You mean the soap opera actress (Nancy Lee Grahn, who argued on Twitter that Ms. Davis’s speech was misleading because she was part of an elite group of actresses who had never been held back by discrimination)? A. Yes. I don’t know that I want to say more about that." http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/24/arts/television/viola-davis-emmys-interview.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=mini-moth&region=top-stories-below&WT.nav=top-stories-below
  21. Memo Date: 20 September 2015 To: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: From: Oscar viewers Re: In Memoriam segment for 2016 Oscars When planning the In Memoriam segment, please refer to 2015 Emmy telecast. But, please don't use "Somewhere Over the Rainbow":)
  22. "Don't watch House of Cards, but love Reg E. Cathey and that awesome voice of his." He was on The Divide, a show I really liked (on WEtv, of all places), but sadly, it didn't get picked up for a second season.
  23. "Yay for Margo Martindale!" "I agree! It is nice to see The Americans get some love as well." In agreement re "The Americans," but much as I love Margo Martindale, it should have been Lois Smith, who wasn't even nominated.
  24. "I know fashion isn't her thing, but did Frances know she was going to the Emmys when she left the house?" Yeah, a truly ugly dress. On the bright side, the speech was perfect, and so short, we didn't have to look at the dress too long.
  25. "I'm trying...really trying. But at this point I'd love if they just have presenters and no banter or schtick. The show would only be an hour and a half. And it would be soooo much better. " This is what the Brits do for the BAFTAs, and it is a pleasure to watch. Even more amazingly, there are actually substantive converations on the red carpet. Something to look forward to.
