i also loved this episode. this second season, i think the writers didn’t know what to do with will and angie, so the storytelling’s felt disjointed. things seem to be coming together. but, i still don’t understand why they decided to kill off cricket. i understand that susan kelechi watson wasn’t going to become a regular, but why kill her? cricket and will had incredible chemistry. and while he was initially devastated by her death, he certainly seems to have gotten over it. it would be one thing, if his pain was going to play out over the season; since it’s not, why squander the possibility that she could return? don’t get it.

watching sandra oh last night, those sleeves were sooo distracting i had no idea what they were talking about. reminded me of that old saying: she’s not wearing the dress; the dress is wearing her.

i have to say, with the exception of the in memoriam (while bad, i’ve seen worse), it was a good show: minimal mindless banter between presenters; only one over-the-top production number, which was a lot of fun; the tequila bit with the audience was mercifully short, as were the acceptance speeches — did anyone get played off? i mentioned upthread that i thought they might have taken a page from the writerless tony award show and realized that less really is more. now, if they could just crack the in memoriam…

haven’t seen ‘killers of the flower moon.’’ but, while i’ve only made through half of ‘poor things’ — struck me as weird for the sake of being weird, and i’m not sure i’ll finish watching — it’s hard not to admire emma stone’s performance.

could really have lived without the forced banter between melissa and octavia and now emily and ryan. but, there’s been far less this year — maybe those in charge remember what a pleasure it was to watch last year’s tonys compared to previous year. ymmv, but i really like the individual introductions of the acting nominees.

capote was actually commenting on an episode of ‘family,’ a show that ran on abc in the late 70s. what he said was that the show was so well written tennessee would be jealous. then noted that the characters all loved each other no matter how badly they behaved. ‘family’ was one of my favorite shows, so i was fascinated and wondered if this is something capote actually said.

not just this show! drives me nuts. the police procedurals are the worst.

overall a pretty good show. moved right along, although anthony anderson’s mother got old fast. loved the reunions — proving that less is indeed, often more. great in memoriam. and while the lucy sketch may not have quite worked, it put me in mind of something la times critic, mary mcnamara, noted re the overwhelming amount of streaming content: “Trying to keep up makes any normal person feel like Lucy and Ethel shoving chocolates down their shirts in that famous candy factory scene from “I Love Lucy.” We all stopped trying to keep up long ago. Which is a problem. Does the Marvel universe truly expand if no one is there to watch it?”

note to the upcoming oscars: this is what a well done in memoriam looks like: a beautiful musical performance that didn’t detract from celebrating those who have passed, whose faces and names we could both see and read.
