  1. hey, we don’t call her ‘saint olivia’ for nothing!
  2. agreed about the unfortunate timing vis a vie the news cycle. and while i do understand the need for the show to take a break now and then, in recent months it seems as though these breaks have been coming far more frequently than in the past — frustrating — even annoying!
  3. it has been renewed. but yes, it did feel rushed, as though they were wrapping things up just in case — although things probably didn’t need to be wrapped up quite this tight.
  4. wish i could say i’m surprised… while i like louis cato a lot, i’m going to miss jon like crazy.
  5. yes! same with language. can’t remember which woman it was who last night described sex as ‘transactional,’ which very 21st century, not mid-20th.
  6. also possible that it could be fibroids.
  7. please, please… please — no!
  8. i don’t think they’ve started filming yet. and if they had, i expect stephen would have said something. i’m more concerned that jon’s protracted absence is because his wife is not doing well.
  9. as i said up thread: i thought the entire episode was more than a little too on the nose.
  10. I'm not sure what you're referring to as "on the nose", but the phrase itself doesn't have to represent something negative. It just means accurate. i’m a writer, and if i get a note that says ‘on the nose,’ it’s not praising my accuracy; it means write it again with subtlety and nuance, which this episode sorely lacked, in case the subtext of my comment wasn’t clear.
  11. on the nose (otn): “representing someone or something with indelicate or awkward directness; lacking subtlety or nuance.”
  12. time to stick a fork in this one…
  13. the baby they got to play the newborn looked like they were ready to cut their first tooth.
  14. Ok, agreed but it's the character, not the person. I thnk Sara Gilbert is not so much of a lame brain as Darlene. yeah… but sara gilbert is an executive producer, so she does have a lot to say about her character.
  15. there are certainly logistical issues with storylines and economic concerns with how many actors per episode. so, yes, it’s a real issue, with no easy solution — particularly when the lead characters are as entitled and self-absorbed as the pearsons. there’s no one to call them on their shit. i had the same problem with the bravermans on parenthood.
  16. the rare episode where i didn’t want to punch at least one of the reagans. but one nitpick: new york city has a city council, not a town council.
  17. yeah — logic. looking for it gives me a headache.
  18. thanks — for some reason i thought it came earlier in the episode. seeing it only reinforces my ‘being careful what you wish for.’ her comment that this was a seminal moment — and in a good way — speaks volumes about why the big three are so fucked up.
  19. might be losing my mind here. but i remember a scene after jack and rebecca talk with the kids about locking the babysitter with the whole family in bed and rebecca saying about happy she was that the kids stuck up for each other. i thought to myself ‘be careful what you for.’ i wanted to know exactly what she said before commenting, so i watched the episode on hulu — went through it frame-by-frame — and CANNOT FIND THAT SCENE. anyone have any thoughts?
  20. I hope he stays for a long time. Questlove has been with Jimmy Fallon forever, and he's in a similar situation, as an Oscar and Grammy winner. Maybe having a steady gig in a house band gives them the freedom to do more creative projects. 🤞 true enough about the freedom a steady gig provides. but a steady gig also provides flexibility. if jon needs time off to care for his wife, finding a musician to stand in — especially in nyc — is a lot less complicated than cancelling/rescheduling dates if he’s on tour and something happens.
  21. saw the cbs segment and it was indeed amazing. and not at all surprised (not to mention delighted) to hear of his marriage. a few months back, i notice he was wearing what looked like a wedding band. thought i mentioned that in a post here, but i can’t seem to find it.
  22. exactly — perfect song, focus on those who’ve passed — it ain’t rocket science!
  23. well in 2009 he did produce and narrate a documentary on the topic — ‘good hair.’ but poking at sensitive issues is the very basis of comedy — and the man is a comedian — so…
  24. on a shallow note: happy to see jane campion win if for no other reason than we got chance to see the gorgeous back of her dress, which from the front looked like a shroud.
