  1. Glad to finally be able to comment on this episode:) Re the surrogate mother: all I could think of is that however difficult that baby's life may turn out to be, she dodged a bullet being adopted by such shallow, venous people. And, on a more shallow note: does anyone know where that scene in the department scene was filmed? I though maybe Marshall FIeld's. But, where ever it was, the building was beautiful.
  2. "And no, I won't watch Brain Dead." But, it's Tony Shalhoub... So I must watch.
  3. This is encouraging, she said hopefully.. http://deadline.com/2016/04/nashville-season-5-showrunners-writers-room-1201741478/
  4. So sad to hear about this. She had one of the funniest lines ever uttered on a sitcom on the Mary Tyler Moore show. I may have gotten some of the details wrong (we're going back to the 70s here:), but Doris is working at an employment agency, and she's interviewing pampered Phyllis, whose husband told her she had to find a job or cut back on her spending. Phyllis is going on and on about her qualifications -- an uncanny ability to match wine with food -- and the kind of job she requires -- something prestigious, that pays extremely well and provides a lot of free time. Doris Roberts' character looks her in the eye and says, "Have you considered running for vice-president?"
  5. "Have they lost all dignity on the home-stretch?" That ship sailed a while ago...
  6. From today's NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/18/arts/television/crazy-ex-girlfriend-season-1-finale.html?hpw&rref=television&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well
  7. "I am getting so tired of the overbearing, I am always right, bad tempered dick head Danny" And never, ever any meaningful consequences. As mojito suggested above, his actions resulting in Nicki's death would have been the perfect counterpoint to his arrogance. But, never going to happen... Not on this show.
  8. "I don't know - I liked this episode overall, but I didn't really buy the blow-up between Jane and Xo. I mean, yes, Xo behavior this episode was terrible, but it didn't really feel like it was in keeping with Xo's character as we've come to know her over the past 39 episodes. I mean, she ended her engagement with Rogelio because she's happy to be done being a mom, she's had recent successes with her recording career; this sort of aimless, out-of-sorts Xo seems to me to have come out of the blue. I don't think Jane was wrong to be super angry with her mom after her behavior at the party, but this is the first time I've felt like a storyline was wholly manufactured just for the sake of drama. And this in an episode that featured an out-of-nowhere identical twin for Petra!" In total agreement! As for the blowup being a longtime coming, had the writers taken the time to lay the groundwork it would have been powerful rather than contrived. On an unrelated note: What happened to Jane's Mini Cooper? Rogelio giving her that car was one of my favorite moments of the show. Given Rogelio's proclivities, he could have given her some lavish, over-the -top car or piece of jewelry. Instead, he gives her a sensible car because he was paying attention and realized how much easier he life would be with a car.
  9. Max was out of the series by what...season three at the latest? I'm really ok with then not bring Scott Cohen back on." As am I. I just found it interesting that him name never came up in all of the discussion around the revival. But, were he coming back, I would love to see the encounter between Max and Lorelai; might she have gained some insight into her own behavior? Just saying...
  10. From Laura Bradley at Slate: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2016/04/08/melissa_mccarthy_joins_the_gilmore_girls_revival.html "With McCarthy back, in addition to all of the show’s most beloved neighbors, coworkers and townies, there’s really only one omission: It appears that Scott Cohen, who played Rory’s English teacher and the only man really worthy of Lorelai’s affection, will not be coming back to sweep Lorelai off her feet." IIRC, this is the first mention of Max I've see in the all of the voluminous comments on the revival, here and elsewhere. I don't know that I think that Max was "the only man really worthy of Lorelai's affection," but I liked the character a lot. And the failure of their relationship revealed just how immature and self-absorbed Lorelai could be. Watching the episodes where she flatly refused to make any room for him in her and Rory's life made me want to slap Lorelai into next year.
  11. "I was amazed at the realism of the baby they used but they seem to put a lot into making them that realistic; link if anyone is interested. http://www.radiotime...de-birth-scenes" "Just a heads up for anyone clicking on that link. There's a pretty big spoiler in the comments. I've seen the whole season so it didn't bother me but if you want to stay unspoiled, do not read the comments. " Thanks for both heads up (heads ups?). While I appreciate the care and effort that went into the realism of the baby, I was so curious about how they did it that I found it difficult to fully experience the emotional impact.
  12. "Have we seen Bernadette in a dress without a short sweater before?" The better to see such a pretty dress.
  13. "I feel dirty for saying this but ME got slightly more interesting." I'm feeling exactly the opposite. They're trying sooo hard to make him quirky, I find myself resisting.
  14. Provocative pause before cut to black, 3 weeks 'til the next episode -- they're trying way too hard to create drama. At least we have a few weeks to rest up before the final 4 episodes. Can't wait... Really, can't wait until this show is over.
  15. From the NYTImes re the crossover: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/28/arts/television/for-the-flash-and-supergirl-power-to-pass-through-network-walls.html?hpw&rref=television&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well
  16. "This gives me a glimmer of hope for not only renewal, but also for the show itself. " Second. Truth be told, had things continued as they have been for the past three years, cancellation would have been just fine by me. One less exercise in frustration and futility. I like the first season a lot, when it looked (at least to me) as though the story would be built around the rivalry/frenemy relationship between Rayna and Juliet. Having that relationship as the centerpiece would have made that show far more cohesive that what it's turned into. Zwick/Herskowitz shows tend to have relatively (pun intended; that one's on my brillant, but cancelled list) small casts and drill deep into the relationships among characters, so I'm very hopeful.
  17. "something about how her family would have starved -- that's the part I can't recall:) -- but it was funny on a number of levels." I finally remembered the gist of the line: Maxine said something about how if she hadn't been allowed to cook when she used the "n" word her family would have starved.
  18. Can't remember the line verbatim, I loved it when the brother was handing the canned goods to Maxine, who said she was glad that Paula Deen was back, and something about how her family would have starved -- that's the part I can't recall:) -- but it was funny on a number of levels.
  19. "Why did they have to move nights? Now it will always be on late, what a pain." Thankfully, we won't have to deal with Sunday delays until the US Open in September. So, enjoy the rest of the season.
  20. Just watched an episode of LIOLT UK. So very civilized: no conflict; no drama. What a bore. And I don't know how much things cost in the UK, but a total gut of the first floor, new kitchen, sunroom converted to year-round room, additional full bath for $46,000 (30,000 British pounds)? Please...
  21. A bad week for the actors who played characters married to Lisa. James Douglas, who played Grant Colman, perhaps Lisa's favorite ex-husband, has died. http://www.rep-am.com/Obituaries/944900.txt
  22. Seems like the only action on this board is when some one dies... Meant to post this yesterday. Robert Horton, who played Whit McColl in the mid-80s, one of Lisa's many husbands, passed away. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/15/arts/television/robert-horton-handsome-scout-on-wagon-train-dies-at-91.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fobituaries&action=click&contentCollection=obituaries&region=rank&module=package&version=highlights&contentPlacement=7&pgtype=sectionfront
  23. "This reminds me of ABC's renewals last season, which included a number of shows that people found questionable. The guy in charge got fired this year, though it didn't help that he had a new pile of flops." Two of those cancelled shows, Selfie, from last year and Trophy Wife, from the year before, suffered from their off-putting titles. There was a lot of concern that "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend would suffer the same fate, but they smart enough to play up that possibility in the intro, "it's a lot more nuanced than that...' and so here comes season 2!
  24. Not sure where to post about the 2nd season, so here will have to do. This show is deservedly getting some traction in the manistream media, so I'm a little concerned that thie board is silent. I, for one, am loving that the writers never sacrifice complexity for humor. Any other thoughts?
  25. Not sure if this should be here or in the media thread, but just saw in the NY Times that the season 5 begins on PBS on April 3rd. Can't wait. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/14/arts/television/downton-abbey-what-to-watch-next-netflix.html?hpw&rref=television&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well
