  1. Kudos again to @Prevailing Wind's post. I'm editing an obituary and because of it I got a laugh from this misplaced modifier: "Don will be remembered by all who knew him as a genuinely good guy." I'm considering leaving it ... you know, to honor those people who thought he was a jerk. Or people who want to forget him.
  2. @foxfreakinmulder said: "I didn't think the backup singer was the young girl I thought it was the 3rd lady." I thought so too because she really looked like Frenchie Davis, who was on American Idol. I thought the reveal was she really was Frenchie, who is now on Broadway and, while a singer, is not a backup singer.
  3. When I worked pre-press at a book printer, my nickname was The Font Queen. True! When I got a new job as art director/associate editor at a magazine and was in charge of all the Mac computers, on my first day I organized all the font folders on everyone's computer. Also true!
  4. I had looked away from the tv when the episode ended, then looked back in time to read the message about India's passing. I exhaled a breathless "OH," and then started crying. These are rather tough times. So much heartbreak.
  5. @Prevailing Wind, I sent your grammar jokes to my former editor (formerly head writer/PR person for a world-wide business, editor of an international business magazine circulated in 50 countries, teacher of English/journalism and with a published novel) and here is his reply: "these are great!!!" You got three exclamation points! I think they are perfectly suited for teaching English and writing. I can't thank you enough for posting them. I'm gushing because I, too, think they are great!!! I watched a news clip/interview with the man who created the Papyrus font. He said he created it when he was 23, and sold it to Letraset (a font company anyone from "back in the day" will know) for $750. He said that was nice money for a struggling young designer. He had no idea Letraset would go on to sell it or that it would be on every Mac and PC OS as a basic font. He thought the Ryan Gosling SNL skit was hilarious. In my college Lettering class, we were tasked with devising a new font, and I was quite poor at it. Otherwise I guess SNL could be making fun of the Saber font.
  6. I googled it as soon as the real couple was revealed, and found this interesting story, complete with photos. https://allthatsinteresting.com/conjuring-house The house is larger than one would think (four bedroom, two baths as said on the show) and it sits on a nice piece of land. I've done Zillow searches for country New Hampshire homes with a bit of property so this price doesn't surprise me in the least. It's right in line. The Strongest Man was also the Most Sweaty Armpits Man! I'd rather win that crown than a Doris boob statue. IMO, the loser should be the one stuck with the Mama.
  7. Agree. The joke is so worn out that I didn't even watch that segment. It would have been more fun for the diver to tie a score, then do something hilarious on his put, like getting knocked into the water and doing a perfect dive. It bothered me that Uzo or whatever his name was couldn't see out of his fire helmet, it was fogged totally over, couldn't even see his face in there.
  8. PW, those are some of the funniest funnies ever. My favorite might be Papyrus and Comic Sans. It reminded me of this greatest SNL video ever, starring Ryan Gosling. The last frame made me LOL so hard I almost fell off my chair. The link is to the YouTube video. SNL Papyrus sketch Even funnier is I have two clients I do advertising for. One uses Papyrus, the other wants Comic Sans font. Enough said. I also loved the Oxford comma one, especially after the many convos had here and on other threads about it. And non-sequitur reminds me of my former editor, who taught me to stop using them after telling me I wrote like a National Geographic writer. After I said, "Thanks," he replied that they had the worst writers of all magazines. Lesson learned! The misplaced modifier reminds me of the old news story about the man who got shot in the fracas. In fact, so many of what you posted are so good, I'm going to send them to Former Editor. I know he will get a kick out of them, and send them on to his other writer friends. So thanks! Well done PW.
  9. Agree 100 percent. Also agree that winners have been already determined. Posters were complaining they didn't like the "Yes/No" judge voting, they missed the number scoring, but all that number stuff is just a time waster since the winners/losers have already been decided.
  10. Happy Thursday evening everyone. Forgive me for talking so much about my relatives, but being at home so much lately makes me think of and miss my family. Most people don’t know that my uncle was a clown for Ringing Bros. Circus. Yes. And when he died, all his friends went to his funeral in one car. Everyone at my house has been trying to stay active to combat boredom and weight gain. At the age of 65 my grandma started walking. She’s 92 now and we have no idea where she is. I’ve also been catching up on my reading. Right now I’m reading a horror book in Braille. Something terrible is about to happen, I can feel it. Board games have also become popular again. Yesterday I was playing chess with my friend, and he said, “Let’s make this interesting.” So we stopped playing chess. Coming home from the store last week, I followed a magician driving down my street. Then he turned into a driveway. My boyfriend thinks I’m a stalker. Well, he’s not my boyfriend. Yet. And now for some sad news ... they aren’t making yardsticks any longer. Thanks. I'll be here all week. Don't forget to heart your posters.
  11. I came here to say the exact same thing. She had her gaping maw so wide open during the entire dance, that's all I could focus on. She's lucky they were dancing inside because seagulls could have flown down her throat. Or a fly-eating bat chasing those insects that no doubt were stuck to the back of her mouth afterward. I also agreed with ... was it Ne-Yo? ... that the salsa dude was shaky on the lifts and not exactly steady throughout. I hated that they got sent through in second place. WTH. I would even rather have seen the floor-gymnast girl get through before those two. And speaking of, she really should try out for the U.S. Olympic team, forget "dancing." I was rooting for Kurtis because, well, Kurtis. But I found his routine disappointing. But if he can get some work with Derek, then good on him. I hope to see him again, somewhere. Anywhere. Heh. The Geometry French guys were my favorite of the night.
  12. Once again we get Chuck Forrest and once again we get no Forrest Bounce. Eh. What's up with that. Leslie ROCKED. But I was disappointed in her meager DD bet and even more so in her FJ wager. What was up with that. I hope she makes a Wild Card spot. We just saw a Famous Ships FJ. And once again, it was not Cutty Sark, the Edmund Fitzgerald or HMS Budweiser. Ha ha! I didn't realize the Carpathia sank.
  13. Thank the gods the articles I read are not doing that. But if reality shows counted every time "like" was uttered by a contestant, every person on The Bachelor would be duking it out for first place.
  14. Some of The 27 Club: Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse, Basquiat was a musician but is better known for his artwork/graffiti. Other members aren't so well known as the above. I hated Courtney with a passion, for the exact reason you posted. I wanted her audition to get Red X-ed and her sent home.
  15. These recaps are like Redemption Arcs, making leads I never liked into nice people. And I fall for it every week! Next Jake will get a glowing edit I suppose. After Mr. Mesnick that is!
  16. Not on the three network channels I get via my tv antenna. I don't get to see all the show you rich folks do.
  17. Thanks for reminding me why I disliked Ali so much and disliked her season even more. I was not happy when she got the B-ette role. I didn't even pay attention to how smokin' Rubber Toe was back then! The recap really cleaned up her reputation and made her look good.
  18. Jimmy Fallon quipped that the First Black Bachelor would have to eliminate himself at the second rose ceremony.
  19. "Because we are all in this together." SHIN LIM! I'm going to add a few more million views to his online video. The guy is smokin' and, ahem, has great hands. And hair! And yes, ITG, I'd gladly kiss his ass and anything else if he wants to meet up with me. Dude rocks. It was worth watching last night just to see his first act again. I didn't catch which card-trick guy Simon was dissing before Shin came on. I'll catch it on the rerun. I turned over to Prodigal Son's rerun for the back half so missed some acts that I didn't see when I flipped back during commercials on PS. I'll catch the rerun this weekend. I was disappointed all the acts with most views ended up being the ones that won, or almost won. I'd never seen the floating head guy who was shown first. In today's world, Simon would have Red X'd him asap so we never would have gotten to see him at all today. It was fun to see Regis and Jerry hosting. Wish they could have gotten more air time, I'm more interested in the old acts than the present-day ones. But there was no SM back then, so of course they wouldn't have racked up the views that modern acts do. Unfair!
  20. Same here. So I had to look him up and do some reading. I'm ready now if Jeopardy wants to use him as a future clue.
  21. I would never recognize him. He's so ... let's just say handsome ... now. Unless you'd rather use that other H word ... hot. When the "SEVENTH" category was shown, right away I said "Seventh Seal." So yeay me. I thought "whale" could have used a BMS. Claudia was aggressive. I liked her. I also was surprised to see players skipping all over the board, but also very glad to see the aggressive play. Also like the one player going "all in" TM James on the DD. What cracked me up though was Brad weaving all over the place like a drunken sailor. He would be ripped from all directions on this board if 2002 Brad were playing now. Dude almost gave me vertigo watching him. FJ would have been easier for me if it had happened just last year like it did for these players. Use ASL to sign "Hi Saber, we love you." Too selfish?
  22. LOL! Or "trying times" or "unprecedented times." They are interchangeable! Turns out it's not "best" acts, it's acts that have gone viral online. Pretty interesting after all. Nice switchup, show.
  23. You are probably correct. I totally forgot Ali left someone's season for her job. We all wondered if that was a bogus excuse at the time. Maybe that's why she made such a big deal about having left EVERYTHING, including her job, last night. I was thinking Jake's Wings of Love season should be one of the recaps. His split with Vienna was epic!
