  1. I like After Hours too. I even like Aaron on this show because he isn't all all pretentious like he is when he's a judge. It always astounds me how many camera people are involved.
  2. Props to Tyler for not going all Gordon Ramsay about making lunch for service people! It really bothers me that this show keeps showing people talking on their cell phones while driving. Everyone with common sense knows that's not a good idea and it's illegal in many states. Maybe they're not really driving while filming but it sure looks like they are so a bad example is being set. I was hoping that either the on-a-stick people or Papi whatever would go home with hyper Mama being my first choice. I can't even remember what they fixed with the snapper but I was totally amazed that they made so much money from one fish. I am glad I won't have to look at quarrelsome dad or daughter with a ring in her nose any more. The guys who came in second last looked defeated already. They won't last much longer if they don't psych themselves up before the next challenge. I don't mind Mikey but he needs to back away from the make up. Yike.
  3. Thanks. I wondered if she was that Nikki but she looked, I don't know, less harsh or something. I still didn't like her though. Interesting that they didn't mention she'd been on a FN show before.
  4. I was happy to see Big Jim win. He seemed sincere and nowhere near as arrogant as practically all the others in the entire competition. The woman was rather impressed with herself. She was very pretty but I kept getting distracted trying to figure out if she had really great hair or was wearing a wig. Nikki looked familiar right away. Was she on FNS? I seemed to remember her as someone I didn't care for on some other show. (Above comments refer to the grilling show.)
  5. Andrew was my favorite throughout so I was delighted that he won. My only regret is that Phil, my second favorite, wasn't on the same team so he could at least share in the win. I hope the PTB have been noting fans' dislike of teams and never do it again.
  6. That's exactly what I was going to say. I liked it too. I was hoping Roy would win but that helmet thing he made for the final challenge looked really artificial, like grey foam sheets just rough cut and wrapped. I didn't understand why someone in solitary confinement would be turning into a fish either. I also didn't like Jasmine's so I just accepted that the judges were correct in their decision. McKenzie's hairdo did her no favors. She's very attractive but that style made her look a good ten years older.
  7. This episode felt like the original food truck race is back after the lousy California only season but, as someone above said, the truck decorations are totally uninspired. The only team I disliked right off the bat was the Dominican one. I don't care to watch their fighting and crying so I hope they don't last long. The man in the Frenchie truck is seriously good-looking. (Haven't learned names yet) I hope he's around awhile. I feel a bit guilty saying that because he's younger than my kids but he's really cute. :) I got a kick out of the breakfast kid but I have a feeling he's going become tiresome in short order. That's hilarious. I can picture Ted being gracious and sympathetic already.
  8. Having Tregaye in that line up of accomplished actual chefs was a joke. I'll bet the others weren't thrilled. The FN employees were excessively complimentary and there's no way she outcooked Elizabeth Falkner. Tregaye did look more attractive than I remember her being. I think she had her teeth fixed. I usually love Antonia but I didn't like the way she took all the parmesan when she knew full well that others would need some. I know they're competing but that seemed petty. I like Marcel but that hair-style left something to be desired.
  9. I thought of another female I'd be very happy with - Amanda Freitag. She's an experienced chef, attractive, nice, good sense of humor. She's had a lot of judging experience and she's very good at criticizing without being unpleasant about it.
  10. I'm happy with Bobby usually but this past season he seemed disinterested. I have no way to know if it was because the cast was less than wonderful overall or if he's just exhausted because he's getting older and has many, many irons in the fire. Alton has become too acerbic and crotchety for me. I'd be happy with Tyler Florence or Jet Tila. I wish they'd replace Giada with someone with credentials who tells it like it is - maybe Alex or Anne Burrell. I like Valerie but she's not actually a chef and she's probably too nice. I would not like to see Eddie and/or Damaris. I like both of them but neither has the background and depth of knowledge this show requires - or should require if it wants to be taken seriously again. Also, I find Damaris's goofy, flirty behaviors annoying.
  11. The thing about Alan is that he was able to live in his own head for a long time because he had a lot in there to begin with. The Bairds...not so much.
  12. Murphy looks like a really nice town. Beautiful scenery! I hope the eclipse watchers don't cause problems.
  13. The Red Cross and major catastrophe groups? What do they think might happen?
  14. I actually liked the Butt Brothers a little better during this episode but I'm still gravely disappointed that Pete and Sam didn't win. I hope Pete finds a way to buy his boat anyway. I always wonder if the family member(s) sneaking up on the winner is staged. It seems to me that anyone who has been out in the woods that long would be attuned to someone else coming through the underbrush no matter how quietly they were walking. I'd like to know how much time elapses between the end of the show and the "reunion." Everyone looked much, much better so it must be more than a couple weeks. Apparently some people who have already been on the show will be coming back for the next season and it won't be on Vancouver Island. That's all I was able to glean from the preview.
  15. I think running into Glenn unexpectedly in a dark room would be just as scary as meeting a costumed "monster." I like him but I'll never understand his "fashion" choices. I enjoyed seeing Roy again. I was happy to hear that he continues to be successful. Every time I see Kiersten, I think she's Brooke from Top Chef. I hope Andrew can pull out the win.
  16. I must have missed something. What was wrong with James McGrath? I thought they said something about a shoulder injury but I don't remember hearing anything about that before. I like Jamie and Joe a lot so I was very happy that they both made it to the end.
  17. I am thrilled that Jason won. I've thought all along that he was told to amp up his folksiness because he was basically the same personality on the baking show but more subdued. His montage tonight seemed to prove me right. I hope he gets a show of some kind, not just a few judging appearances. I have never understood why Cory chose to be on this show. He's an accomplished chef and restaurateur who, as others have said, should be on Top Chef. He never seemed comfortable on camera although he did do a good job with his pilot. I felt sorry for him coming in third out of three and to Rusty of all people. It has always seemed a bit mean to me for FN to eliminate that third person when there's no reason that I can see why they couldn't make the final announcement with all three standing there. Rusty seems nice enough but his constant screaming was more than I could take. He crosses a line between jovial and overbearing. Interesting that Matthew was totally ignored. I guess he played the part he was brought back to play and was done.
  18. The only one I remember from that line up is Milly. I liked him. Maybe I'll recognize a couple more when I see them but most HK people are so dreadful that they all run together.
  19. Brooke's infomercial was hilarious but the close up shots really showed how gaunt she had become. I was sorry to see her and Dave tap out before Ted and Jim. I was touched when I saw them saving memorabilia from their cabin and I was sad to see it come down. Having said that, I've been team Pete and Sam since the beginning so I hope they can outlast the Butt Brothers. They seem to have an excellent father and son relationship overall so I don't expect that the little bit of friction we saw will be a big deal.
  20. I clearly have no eye for alien makeup because the two I liked best were the ones eliminated. I loved the green fishy one with the big eyes. I thought it was the only one that looked at all amusing. I still want Andrew to win based upon the season in general but I didn't like his alien and I loathed the blue one with the big neck. That triangular-headed thing with no face had a nice paint job but there wasn't anything remotely humorous about it. It didn't even look like a living creature. I'm always confused when the judges seem to say one thing during the closeups and another when they talk to the contestants. That has happened so often this season that I tend to feel like they're manipulating the outcomes. I never thought that before.
  21. Ted Allen. Anne Burrell. Now departed Bob Tuschman. I don't think FN has any bias against gay personnel. I adore Ron Ben-Israel and wish we'd see more of him. He and Jason together would be a hoot.
  22. Well, wow. I haven't liked Matthew any better than anyone else but I thought he did much, much better than Rusty. I was actually shocked when he was eliminated and I felt a bit sorry for him fighting back tears during his final comments. The cynic in me says that the producers have decided on either Jason or Cory for the win and they wanted the third person standing to be someone they could count on to be third. I hate when they do things so transparently phony as calling friends who just happen to be immediately available and agreeable to being on TV. Interesting that they didn't call anyone in Kentucky. Giada was obviously fond of Jason. She looked at him like she actually liked him as opposed to just going through the motions. I thought Guy's "help" and comments came across as phonier than whatever the contestants were doing/saying.
  23. I watched the trailer twice and I can't understand it. I think maybe one has to already know the words to whatever the cartoon baked goods are singing in order to make them out. In any event, it makes the show look it may have become a comedy. The thing that stood out for me was the representation of Paul from Wales' bread lion at the end.
  24. I like Jose Garces. He may be a bit low key but I've read several times that he's a thoroughly decent man who treats his employees very well. He has a huge restaurant empire so he must be doing something right.
  25. I was going to say the same thing. It made her come across as insecure or something even while her words expressed confidence. Perkily. I was glad she beat the jerk at the end. I liked the other guy.
