If the fondling was as minor as the Duggars describe, and as minor as the police report describes, the Jim Bob and Michelle are morons for going to the police in the first place. It just doesn't add up. That being said, it was 12 years ago, and I have to agree with the sisters that a segment of population seems to be out to get them. Some media and individual people are having a party tearing this apart. The family is being attacked, some justified, some really not. The interviewer is being criticized for not interrogating them, but I've seen plenty of soft ball interviews from people like Katie Couric as well. This was an interview, not a police investigation. Going line by line through the police report wouldn't have been appropriate. As for the show being cancelled, I think the family is just putting up a united front.

A 14/15 year old touching a 5 year old sexually is on a whole different level than a 14/15 year old trying grope a 13 year old, in my opinion. One could be construed as a horny, inappropriate brother, but the other is clearly a pedophile. Michelle trying to make it "no big deal" just because some of the victims were sleeping is disturbing. I worry more than anything about the lack of supervision in that house, considering how many teenage boys there are and will be and how many little girls are still in that house. So many classic quotes though. "Boys don't babysit", and "only adults can be pedophiles" will live on forever. I also cringe at how many people think saying "Sorry" and claiming to have found God excuses something. If that worked, there would be no one in prison.

I am not excusing Michelle's lack of action. However, I keep thinking of teenage Michelle, who was a normal girl from a normal but divorced family. She was a Christian, but she wasn't a crazy, breeding machine, fundie, passive woman. Somewhere along the line, something happened to subdue her, make her obedient, make her think Jim Bob is God, and make her think she has no right at all to self determination and personal happiness. She couldn't save her daughters because she is basically become like Theon in Game of Thrones. Castrated.

This interview will apparently only be Jim Bob and Michelle? I would be willing to believe that this incident really is behind them if the victims were interviewed and they themselves said it was not as bad as portrayed, and that they had forgiven their brother and moved on and healed from whatever trauma they endured. But the lack of any statement from any of Josh's sisters just emphasizes even more how controlled and smothered the girls in that family are. Where's their press release? Jana is 25 years old, and she can't make a statement, if this is really is all behind them and forgiven? I just can't imagine what they're going to blather on about for an hour, if its only the two of them and there aren't going to be any hard questions.

I was a little worried to see Amber napping in the middle of the day. I hope she's not using again.

Gary had a job as some kind of medical assistant. They never said what happened, but he doesn't seem to be working anymore. I can't believe Maci brought her damn dog to view someone else's house. I would be furious to find out someone trekked their dog into my home without permission. And she has time to get pregnant and buy a house, but no time at all to finish her education and at least get her associates degree. Does her boyfriend have a job? Every time I look at these girls, I think of Dustin Diamond. Some day they too will be broke and begging for mortgage money on the Internet. It made me sad when Caitlynn was talking about not having to live in a trailer anymore, because that is exactly where she is headed once the MTV gravy train ends. No education, and no marketable skill. And spending money like its water.

Jana and John David are both 25 years old. Its amazing the control Jim Bob and Michelle have over those kids, that even as adults they can't have a stupid Twitter account.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Kellyee replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I think Josh's career in politics is pretty much sunk, even with Mike Huckabee backing him up. Sending pictures of your penis over Twitter is something people will laugh at and forgive later, but fondling your little sisters is pretty disturbing and unsettling. Even though I suspect it was because of Josh's severely repressed upbringing and no access to other girls and probably being told any sexual acting out (like healthy masturbation) is sinful. I'm not really sure I would classify him as a pedophile, as much as you can know anyone from television. Funny how the Duggar girls have given no statements, and the Duggars made no mention in police reports of getting counseling for their girls and better supervising their kids. By my count, they had at least 5 more babies after Josh was caught touching his sisters. -
Tyler and Catelynn are in a toxic, lazy, parasitic relationship. Did Dr. Jen point this out to them when they were on Couples Therapy? They are too comfortable in the relationship, and they passively give each other permission to do nothing but breed. Catelynn may be fat, but Tyler is completely uneducated and without a single skill in life. And now he's father to two kids. I don't think either of them will improve anything about their lives while they're in the relationship. Only when they have to go find another partner will they lose weight, get a job, and get some ambition and motivation. I've seen so many people who didn't lose weight for years, and then lost a 100 pounds after they got divorced. At this point, Catelynn doesn't need to lose weight, because Tyler has nowhere to go. He's stuck with her even if she gains 600 pounds and ends up on My 600 Pound Life. Because at this point, Tyler is a huge loser.
-
He's a direction-less moocher and a loser with no apparent career. So basically, he is what all these girls will be at 40 years old. No job, no career, mooching off of whoever will pay their bills, and with fugly tattoos. Tyler's a jerk, but there is no apparent reason why Caitlyn and Tyler can't take a college class or put their baby in a jogging stroller and walk around the block to get some exercise. Caitlyn can't do better than Tyler because no guy who is actually working towards a goal is going to want to be with someone who has two kids, no education, no job, and no apparent direction in life.

Maci was wrong and a hypocrite, but Farrah could have handled the situation with grace and dignity. Instead, she acted psycho, took the spotlight off of Maci's stupidity where it belonged, and made herself look unstable and horrible. That being said, Maci's whole argument was ridiculous and made no sense. I would have respected her more if she just admitted she came back for the money. So Maci's not graduating college anytime soon, I guess. All these girls are on track to be poor and uneducated forever. The MTV money and fame won't last, and they have nothing else except babies and crappy relationships. It really is sad to watch. Their kids are 5 years old, and they've accomplished nothing since the day the kids were born.

Does John David still live in the house with his parents? He and Jana are 25 now, correct? I get that Jana's not allowed to leave until some guy agrees to marry her, but it doesn't seem like either of them is getting anywhere financially, socially, or maturity-wise. How come none of the biological Duggars have gone to college?? Does the homeschooling beat the ambition out of every single one of them?
-
Either way, Dr. Phil put an obviously very disturbed woman on the stage and let the audience laugh at her. For 2 hours. It was so beyond inappropriate that I don't even know where to start.
-
Oh, oops. Sorry. But you know there are people out there who think Maci is a saint and the hardest working girl in America. So it still kinda applies.
-
Compared to the other Teen Moms, Maci is doing okay, but I wouldn't call her "an incredibly hard worker." A campus radio show is not that hard if the topic doesn't require a ton of research. She's not exactly Rachel Maddow. And aspirations don't really mean much, especially when she mostly just wants to extend her 15 minutes of fame. And spending 6 years in college without graduating isn't really an accomplishment. My cousin went 9 years. Its the actual graduating that counts. Amber needs a slap. A guy who moves out of state that quick has no real job back home. A guy who wants to marry you that quickly is either a huge moocher or creepy weirdo.

Amber's only storyline besides the cancer was being wife to a douchebag. In my experience (long family history of young to middle-aged adults with cancer), people with cancer often fall into either the category not wanting to talk about it ever, or not being able to stop talking about it. I think both are coping mechanisms. And I'm sure Amber was repeatedly prompted to discuss it on air by Bravo. And even given the current circumstances, it was amusing that she kept calling it THE cancer, not my cancer or just cancer. What did piss me off last season was when Amber kept comparing fighting cancer to fighting off a felony charge that you brought on yourself and then made worse by continuing to lie, and saying they were like the same thing. That made me want to slap her. And Kim Richards is a crazy drunk. She and Amber don't really appear to be in the same category. Its possible that Amber is a serious attention whore, but she never seemed psychotic or addicted to alcohol or drugs.

Farrah did porn. Maci has had her son living with at least 2 of her boyfriends. And I still remember that lovely scene from last season when she had Bentley on the phone begging her boyfriend to come back after they had a fight. Maci is no better than Farrah, except that Maci has a more likeable personality. Maci is unmarried with two kids by two baby daddies. She needs to watch who she throws stones at. Farrah at least got paid for her immoral behavior.
-
At least Maci appears to be "working" at something. Amber has done the book tour, but we all know she didn't write the book, and she hasn't done anything since but sit around. It doesn't seem like Catelynn and Tyler have done anything in years. I guess Farrah worked at porn? So in this sorry group, Maci and Ryan are the best ones. Which is really pretty sad.
-
Maci is the only one who appears to be close to finishing college. I have to give her that. Her high horse about Farrah and porn lasts just long enough for her to realize she needs the money though. It was entertaining to watch MTV reduced to following Ryan around and trying to get him to speak in complete sentences. He must have a separate contract and payment from Maci. My biggest concern about Amber's elderly boyfriend is picking up and leaving Boston on a whim means that at 40, he had no career worth hanging on to. And I suspect he may be broke and letting Amber pay for him. And he's too close with Leah, considering this is a new relationship.

S10.E13: Birthing Classes and Teamwork
Kellyee replied to bigskygirl's topic in 19 Kids And Counting [V]
What's Michele's jurisdiction?? Does she do anything? I am impressed that Michele's gall bladder made it through 18 kids though. -
Most people ease into adult life in stages. Josh went from being a coddled boy with few chores who was half-heartedly homeschooled to being a married man with a real job and 3 kids in what? 5 years? That's a lot to take on at once. And they're living out of state, so they have no help from family. Which means Josh probably actually has to help parent his children. He's not used to having to do anything, so it must be exhausting.

As much as I like Ryan's parents too, I noticed how quickly they blamed Ryan and Shelby's breakup on Shelby. I laughed out loud as they claimed that it was Shelby who couldn't handle Bentley being Ryan's first priority. Bentley may have been Ryan's 2nd or 3rd priority, occasionally. Shelby seemed to be interacting with Bentley more than Ryan was. As nice as Larry seems to be, Ryan didn't become immature and uninvolved in a vacuum. I'm guessing he has serious only child syndrome. Shelby dodged a bullet. Every time I see Gary on my television, I vomit in my mouth a little. Amber's no prize, but good Lord. Gary is manipulative and triggering, and I now think he liked that Amber "abused" him, because it gave him something to hold over her head forever. Kristina needs to give her new baby to Brandon and Teresa and run away.

Bethenny Frankel: Skinny Girl
Kellyee replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
I know she's crazy in her own way, but I missed Bethenny on this show. I'm glad she's back. And she's a good counterpoint for Ramona, who appears increasingly insane. As for the divorce, if the marriage lasted less than 3 years, you should leave with what you brought in to the marriage, minus support for the child. Here in PA, a 2 year marriage doesn't usually get you alimony, unless you're getting paid to give in and just sign the papers. -
Not to defend Kristina, because I think she's probably an idiot, but my doctor switched my birth control prescription and I didn't know until I got to the pharmacy. It was from a brand name to a generic. She never said anything to me about switching it. Even that kind of change can make a difference. But I still think Kristina's an idiot for letting Gary anywhere near her private parts with his defective sperm.

You could tell from the tone of Theresa's voice that she didn't really want to let them see Carly. And its not a good sign that they want Dawn at the adoption issues meeting. Tyler needs to suck it up and kiss some butt. He's acting like he has rights and his opinion means something in this situation, when in reality he has no power at all and needs to watch what he says. I also cringed when Catelynn's brother asked when he can see Carly. Ummm, most likely sometime after her 18th birthday. There probably would never have been a family visit anyway, but I'm pretty sure showing all their family dysfunction on the television sealed the deal. I think Amber has a mood disorder. Have they said if she's still seeing a therapist? She needs medication. I do give her points for not freaking out in front of Leah this time. And what is Gary doing for work? Anything?? I hope Maci manages to graduate college. She stands a good chance of ending up a single mom of 2 little kids, and she's going to need the money.
