I wish they chose a more famous actress. I know they went with an unknown to save on her salary but come on....

For me, on this side of the pond, everyone on this show has been an 'unknown' until they showed up here. Save Julie Andrews, but she's only doing voicework. Don't think they can afford anyone 'more famous', even if they wanted to.

Yeah you're probably right. Netflix is very stingy.

I have just a couple of episodes left, and I’m so sad about it! I know it will be awhile before we get season 4. I plan to watch Queen Charlotte next, but are there any other similar shows? I’ve never seen a show that has great writing, romance, drama, humor, and just stunning visually. Period pieces can be kind of dreary and dull. I’ve seen a lot of comparisons to Gossip Girl, but that show was not nearly as dreamy to me, more of a high school show with great fashion.

There is really nothing  like it. Some people say Sanditon but that is absolutely different. The whole vibe is more about hardship poverty and struggles and the show was damaged by the lead actor leaving the show. So don't watch that.

I watched Poldark as my bridgerton placeholder which is still not like Bridgerton but at least it has 5 whole seasons with a planned and well executed ending and a very interesting storyline and that was good.

My Lady Jane is a single season set in the Tudor era. It has shapeshifters, palace intrigue, and awesome chemistry between the leads. It’s on Prime.

Lady Jane sits badly with  me because the real life girl had such a horrendous life and ending. I wish they could have just made up a character. But if you enjoy it.....

I felt the same about how Mary Tudor (eventual Queen Mary I) was used in the source material that I could not watch the show. I get wanting to do a lighthearted historical, but not with real people who had deeply traumatic lives.

Same here. We finally got a good Mary I portrayal on Becoming Elizabeth.  She had her religious beliefs but she also loved her sister and brother. Which is true. Despite all the crap Henry put them through the three siblings did love each other and get along until they got older. She tried to give Elizabeth advice and had a hard time putting up with Edward's new policies. And the show got canceled.

I never got a chance to see that, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it. I have been interested in the Tudors for 40+ years and I am very particular as to how they are portrayed.

Bridgerton Season 4 Adds Harry Potter’s Katie Leung, Promotes 2 Others

Quote

Katie Leung (the Harry Potter franchise, The Peripheral) has been cast as Lady Araminta Gun. “Twice married and twice widowed, Araminta has two girls debuting on the marriage mart this season and is feeling the pressure to get at least one of them married off,” reads the character’s official description. “Fabulous, discerning and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything — or anyone — threatens her standing in society.”

Quote

Michelle Mao (Goosebumps) is set to play Rosamund Li, Araminta’s eldest daughter and most prized possession. Described as “beautiful, vain and eager to please her mother, Rosamund sets her sights on Benedict Bridgerton this season and is determined to get what she wants.”

Quote

Isabella Wei (The Crow) will play Posy Li, Rosamund’s younger sister. “Her mother rarely puts the spotlight on Posy, as her chatty, overly friendly demeanor often has her putting her foot in her mouth.”

Netflix also announced the promotions of Emma Naomi (Alice Mondrich) and Hugh Sachs (Brimsley), both of whom have been upgraded to series regulars for Season 4.

KATIE IS OLD ENOUGH TO PLAY ARAMIBTA?!?!! Also she’ll be great.

She is old enough to have two teenagers if she also got married at 20 or younger. I do feel like this is a departure for this show. All of the other mothers of the Ton trying to marry their daughters off have been older, and she's the same age as Nicola Coughlan.

THIS!!!  Considering Bridgerton typically casts 30 year old as debutantes!  And I think it's kind of stretching it a bit - Araminta would have had to be married off within weeks of coming out to have teenagers.

Can you please remind me, who were all the 30-year-old debutants?

Thank you both! Nicola is the youngest looking woman I’ve ever seen approaching 40. I want her secrets! Lol

Turn back the clock to when you were a teenager and do not tan ever, wear sunscreen daily, stay away from harsh ingredients, no yo-yo dieting, and genetics.

Culturally, tanning was considered a no-no because it was unladylike to be dark.  Only farmers tanned (FYI, one of my great-grandparents was a farmer.  My maternal grandmother married a farm boy and who was probably the first one to attend school.  Had there not been a war, she would never have married him!).

I've actually done most of this. I look good for my age, but not as good as Nicola! I blame my insomnia and the bit of suntanning from when I was a kid.

Tbh, I'm annoyed by how much publicity they are doing when they've barely started filming. Doesn't that mean the actors are doing double-duty (working and interviews at the same time)? I'd rather they focus on making the season good than building anticipation.

The way this production treats Simone Ashley is just so vile. So many microaggressions upon microaggressions. Why is she missing in the sneak peak? From constantly being skipped in promotion to even cast lists.

Why are all the Asian cast grouped under additional cast? Shouldn't Sophie's family members be regular cast for this season? I hope their characters at the least are given more screentime and story compared to how this show treated the Sharmas in season 2. I see the Featheringtons are still hogging screentime even after their season but the Sharmas will remain gone.

I wasn't planning on watching next season anyway considering how boring season 3 was but the racism towards Simone Ashley has decided it for me.

And why does the production blurb have the white married women - Francesca and Penelope - get their married last names while Kate who got married first and is the Viscountess and Lady Bridgerton is listed as Kate Sharma?

I have to say that I have never noticed these things but then I never had a reason to.  Obviously they stand out to you and must be hurtful.

With that said, is is possible that those listed in the additional cast section are there because they have bit pieces in a limited number of episodes?  I don't know how these things work but five or ten minutes in one episode may not rank the same way?

If Kate is going to have only a bit part, I'm even less inclined to watch than I already was.

I have a feeling it will be. We were told we'd see a lot of Kate and Anthony and that ended up only being what two episodes? Then they moved to India weirdly leaving before Francesca's wedding.

What I have noticed is that some characters are favored more than others. Nicola Coughlan is great to watch as Penelope however it shows that Penelope is the favorite in the writer's room. While the Sharma's were most likely only going to be one season characters (And Sophie's family will probably be as well), they were developed poorly in the second season. That family was never fully fleshed out and the writing was so clunky. Contrast that with the Featherington's, who in the same season, took over so much screen time that was dedicated to their silly side plot. That time could have gone to learning more about Kate's backstory. It would have been great to see more of her family. Lady Sharma got maybe three lines an episode and half of it was to say she had a headache. Swapping Benedict's and Colin's book order only makes sense if the Featherington family is being written off. On a show called Bridgerton, Colin, the Bridgerton of the third season felt like a side character. The development with him was lacking when he should have gotten the most time dedicated to him. It was all the Penelope show. Then at the end of the season, all the Featherington babies are shown. The actual Bridgerton heir was not for whatever reason.

This show is having such a problem with the former leads returning to the show. Phoebe Dynevor has expressed interest in coming back but the production seems to have written Daphne out entirely. Simone Ashley speaks enthusiastically about the show. Jonathan Bailey has other things going on (as he should) and getting him and Simone Ashley together might be a scheduling challenge but it boggles the mind that when production has those two actors, they have them not announce their baby news or talk about going to India while heavily pregnant. So farfetched. Even when they have the actors return, the show does not seem to know what to do with them. It is unclear what the contracts on this show look like but the actors who have yet to be leads, should be able to pursue other opportunities. As well as former leads. This is the problem with the way the show is set up.

To circle back to how production treats certain characters, the promotional tour for season three was well hyped to the extreme. Season two did not get that. It is obvious that Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley love their characters and love working together so it is a shame they did not get more time to promote that. And when they did, they were always interviewed with Charithra Chandran.

Katie Leung is Scottish and Yerin Ha is Australian. I wonder if they will use their actual accents in their roles. Nicola Coughlan got to use hers in a scene. The majority of the actors are British but it would be enjoyable to hear a variety of accents.

Two years between seasons is a long time. It is exciting to see behind the scenes of the next season but it so bittersweet knowing that there is no release date and is at least a year away. Shows on streaming services require such long waiting betwixt seasons. At this rate, if they go by book order, it will be 2036 when Gregory gets his season.

And my question remains why are the Asian cast reduced to bit pieces in the limited episodes they get while the two white families are centered in the series. This means that all their constant spouting about diversity and representation is just hogwash to get viewers and awards and brag about in interviews but when you dig deeper the representation is just token while it's the white characters who get all the story and narrative importance. A tale as old as time for BIPOC.

Simon is gone, Kate will probably be in for 5 minutes, so that Bridgerton drawing room is going to be lily white.

Sophie's Asian family should be front and center this season considering she is the lead but they have been relegated to additional cast while Portia Featherington is regular cast. At least the show should be honest that other than the superficial, token representation here and there and packing the extras with people of colour this show is really the usual period drama stuff with white characters.

I came across this recent article regarding how problematic Simone/Kate's treatment plus the way season 2 was given nil promotion. And no, COVID is not an excuse as Nicola Couglan and Luke Newton got a photoshoot for season 2!

https://feminegra.com/why-is-kate-still-a-sharma-while-everyone-else-gets-their-married-name-on-bridgerton/

Kate and Anthony did not even get a solo poster! Production hates their season and their characters.

I did not like season 2 and there's the reason.  It felt superficial to me and yes it was CLUNKY and forced.
