First off, love that they spoofed those McConaughey "I was driving a Ford long before people paid me to drive one."

 

Fun episode.  Almost no crossover from last week (save for the brief Randy as Lorde scene) but still a lot of fun and I loved the Wacky Races homage.  Once again this show proves they can do a good episode even without the big four popping up at all.  And hey, Nathan and Mimsy were back!  Them and the Goth kids seem to get an episode every 1-3 years.

Not sure what to think of the episode. I'm too busy wondering when Hanna Barbera sues Matt & Trey for co-opting Wacky Races. Also, Nathan's parents have to rate with Randy, Leanne and the Stotches as the worst parents in town.

I loved the subtle nod that Saturday, September 27th was the first Saturday in 50 years that there were no Saturday Morning Cartoons. (One of many RIP articles: http://flavorwire.com/480093/a-requiem-for-saturday-morning-cartoons )The adults emptying the grocery store of cereal and milk and watching Wacky Races in their pajamas in awe-filled nostalgia was wonderful. It also makes me really sad. Looks like it does for Trey and Matt as well.

As often happens with recent episodes of South Park, the majority was kind of 'eh' to me----but then one or two parts, in this case the hilarious parodies of those ridiculous Matthew McConaughey ads, made it all worthwhile!

Wow.  Nathan's parents are assholes just like Butters' parents.  No wonder the kid is so evil.

Best episode so far!  It didn't hurt that I loved spoofing the McConaughey adds, and him getting blown up and sucked into a wormhole was just icing on the cake.

Is that who he sounded like?  Mr.Jabroni and I were actually talking about how different his voice seemed, but just figured that the person whom originally did the voice wasn't available or whatever.

 

As for the episode itself, I agree with others in that it was an okay episode with only bits of hilarity.  I had totally forgotten about MMc's car commercials and was trying like hell to figure out the joke/reference to "True Detective" - he was driving a yellow car, he had on a yellow outfit at one point.  Crikey. 

 

The Saturday morning cartoon thing may have been a riff or reference to this article I recently read about how the last broadcast network still showing Saturday morning cartoons had officially stopped showing them on September 27th or so.  (I'll try to find the source again to be sure.)  Anyway, great bit.  And Timmy's HandiCar with the tablecloths and candle/flower on the table was excellent!  Timmeh is the best added-on character since Butters, IMO.  Overall, I'd give it a 7/10.

It's not; according to the website, they're rerunning The Cissy.  It's weird - other than when they had that power outage last year and couldn't finish the episode, I can't remember the last time they've done a rerun in the middle of the season.  I wonder if it was always planned due to something pre-existing, or if this was another last-minute thing.

Description for "The Magic Bush," which doesn't sound like a Halloween episode. On the plus side, it looks to be Cartman-heavy. Downside? Butters is probably going to be punished, and that's never fun.

Curious . . . with Halloween coming up, what are your favorite seasonal South Park moments? For me, there's the "pinkeye" epidemic, Chef tearing a guy's arm off then sheepishly putting it back into place, the Korn epic, Satan's Sweet Sixteen party, and the boys dressed as Avengers, while one in five other people came to the party as Psy.

I fully recognize what this says about me, but my favorite seasonal South Park episode is Woodland Critter Christmas.  Every time the characters in the story talk back to the narrator makes me laugh until I hurt.  

 

"He went to where abortions are done."  "No, he didn't"  "Yes he did!"  "NO HE DIDNT!" *Stan turns on the Jeffersons* "He tried to watch tv to distract himself, but he couldn't stay away" *Stan continues to watch the Jeffersons*

 

"Everyone lived happily ever after.  Except for Kyle, who died of AIDS two weeks later." "GODDAMIT CARTMAN!"

 

For Halloween specifically, my favorite one is Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery.  Korn as the Scooby Gang is always a winner for me.

 

I do also have to give a special mention to Fantastic Easter Special.  There is something so hilariously twisted about Kyle being forced to kill Jesus in order to save the Easter Bunny, Snowball.

I totally forgot about "Spooky Fish," the second Halloween special. Killer animals, alternate universes, and a good guy Cartman with a goatee. Also, Sharon's Aunt Flo comes to visit for the last time.

So we got drones, NSA, the Fappening, the Michael Brown situation all in one episode. Man, it was weird seeing the whole Ferguson thing play out with just drones.

 

Heh, the Cissy bathroom is still there.

Didn't realize the Cissy bathroom is still there...so that's the one continuity reference of the episode.  I was hoping they would continue that and the Randy is Lorde storyline.

Meh. There were some good moments, and Butters barreling down on Cartman was funny twice, but the whole thing with Clyde's mom's unkempt pubic hair was icky. And the realistic mannequin wasn't good, either.

 

Also: what's up with Butters' dad not immediately thinking that his son was to blame? Maybe the writers (writer?) are burnt out on Butters getting abused. I would've expected a grounding at best.

I enjoyed how Butters' mom was unapologetic (and thoroughly accurate) about the natural bush. They could have easily turned her into a mostly meek, mute female (like Mrs. Vagisil before the conclusion) but instead let her express her exasperation.

I KNEW the show was going to reference the Michael Brown shooting at some point this season.  And they tied it in with drones and the celebrity nude photo scandal.  Well done, Trey and Matt.  Well done.

 

Am I the only one that took pleasure in watching Butters' dad go crazy?  And for once Butters managed to get out of trouble unscathed, even if it meant sucking up to Cartman at the last minute.  Felt bad for Craig's mom though, but I too liked that she was unapologetic about it.

Yeah, when he said "Craig's mom doesn't look happy." at the end and Cartman sighed and was like "here's a new plan to fix it"  Butters got scared and  immediately "No, no! That's okay!" He knew  to put the pin back in that grenade and just leave it alone!

 

I liked how Butter's dad kept saying variatons on 'hobby enthusiast'.

I enjoyed how Butters' mom was unapologetic (and thoroughly accurate) about the natural bush. They could have easily turned her into a mostly meek, mute female (like Mrs. Vagisil before the conclusion) but instead let her express her exasperation.

 

I got the impression that she didn't really care that much that they saw her naked either. I mean, I know it's wrong to hack phones and computers and steal anyone's data, regardless of what it actually is, and anyone who got hacked is justifiably pissed off, and they should arrest whomever did it, but I kind of feel like it's more of deal because it's like 'zomg naked people!' Craig's mom seemed like, yeah I was naked, that's not the point.  

 

I did like Butters getting up in Cartman's face for a change. He backed down and let Cartman still pull off some wacky shit, but in the end, Butters wasn't grounded and pretty much got away with everything. 

 

The song was great at the end. "And then she died."

 

I liked the use of the drones because they're becoming quite the issue.

The kids in "South Park" are playing the new Terrance and Phillip mobile game. Stan is addicted to the latest app to hit the market. Meanwhile, Terrance and Phillip aren't feeling so good about the fortune they're making on their new mobile game.

Totally my favorite of the season so far.

 

Loved that the show took on Freemium games. Paying 40 cents on a "free" game is stupid, pay $59.99 on a game like normal people! I thought the reveal of Jimmy being a pusher was great.

 

Continuity check: Randy writing songs as Lorde and The gluten-free PBR. Of course Randy drank a "sampler" of eight wines & beers and called it a "tasting." Mark of alcoholism right there, right on top of claiming that the addiction gene "somehow" skipped over him.

 

That alcohol ad was great. "DRINK DRINK DRINK PUSSY PUSSY PUSSY DRINK DRINK DRINK...Please Drink Responsibly."

 

It was great to see Satan again. And he actually explained addiction in a clear and understandable way! Hell, he even brought up gluten! Oh yeah, LOVED the reveal of Beelzeboot, and his fight with Satan!Stan.  And of course the Canadians wondering who to root for was great.

 

"This is a sad day for Canada, and therefore the world."

Four episodes left...last year they started the epic Gaming Wars Black Friday storyline..  I wonder if we'll get another storyline this season, maybe pay off the Lorde thing.

I liked this episode better than last week's, though that's not saying much. Bringing in Satan wasn't a bad idea, and Canadians (and their square wheels) are always good for a laugh. Also nice to see that Randy is a shitty father . . . though I could buy that he's genuinely oblivious to his own vices. Then again, he is Lorde. Ya ya ya ya.

 

And since when does Jimmy suck that hard? Is his appearance to make up for his lack of presence in "Handicar"?

Wow, it's been quite a while, hasn't it, Satan?  I loved him calmly explaining the mechanics and philosophy behind addiction and temptation.  The Canadian Devil was a riot.

 

I love that Kyle was going on about how to get the word out to people on Canada pushing their fremium app scam and going on TV, like how they used to do in these situations while  Cartman was in the background and just did it by tweeting it and it immediately was trending

 

 

Reminded me how he quickly and effectively destroyed the psychiatrist that called him fat in TMI.  Man, Cartman could give Emily Thorne and Nolan on Revenge a run for their money.

Lourdes is one of the funniest gags. It was so random and they stuck with it. 

 

All of Randy's drinking was great too because it kept getting amped up. "Get off your fucking high horse Stan-Wanna put some money on it?" He's kind of been stealing the show this season.

 

I watched the episode online and in the booze ad they said "fucking" and a lot of "pussy". Was it bleeped out on tv?

As someone who is currently playing a freemium game on my phone and vacillating between thinking it's stupid and refusing to pay money for extra things but really, really wanting this one perk and it's only $1.99, I loved this ep. 

 

I also liked Randy asking Stan how many songs he'd have to write to pay off $25k and Stan replying, "One."

Yeah, but he wrote that great song for the Hunger Games and they fucked it all up. He's got some integrity.

Definitely my favorite episode of the season so far. I loved Stan getting hooked, it reminded me of Heroin Hero.

That driving game scene with the music was just so damn perfect, though!

I wonder what will be continued from this episode. Will Stan's grandpa be seen at a casino? And, by the way, is that the same casino where the town almost saved themselves only to blow all the money when they "let it ride"? I kinda want to see "Premise Running Thin" attending school with the other kids.
