Ugh, looks like one of the guys (boys?) isn't making the finale.

The guys both had terrible days at a very bad time in the competition. I think the win was earned this time. I was impressed by Lilah this episode.

They loved Oscar's volcano, but hated the trees. They thought Lila's volcano was too perfect. It came down to the cake, and they raved over Lila's.

Admittedly, Lila's cake was the only one I wanted to eat. But her volcano looked like an upside down pail. And I didn't like her penguins.

Tasi's was kind of a hot mess. I give her credit for knowing about the parts of the volcano. Her trees didn't look all that great. And would Duff have known that was a mongoose if she hadn't told him.

I understand why Oscar didn't want forest. He had to put a lot of trees and there wasn't time to do it well. Pity because his volcano was stunning. Too bad his flavors were subtle.

When Oscar chose lemon, again, and Tasi selected her ever-present tropical flavors, it was Lila's to lose.  I want to eat her chocolate cake!

I hated to see Levi leave since he had consistently been at the top most of the competition.  His day just tanked and he never could seem to come back from his mistakes - which in the past he seemed to have had no issue with but I guess the pressure finally got to him.  I suspect he would have made an awesome volcano.

Oscar should have just left off the trees because his volcano was beautiful (he could have put a black wasteland at the bottom and said the volcano had erupted...LOL).  He is one contestant I would like to see come back on another version of the show (and also Levi).

Tasi's life seems almost idyllic.  Doesn't she go to a school that studies ocean life?  That is just so cool!

Lilah is a future cheerleader and already has the huge bow to show for it (it is inevitable when you live in Texas (I'm just kidding - sort of)).  I want to taste her cake because it just sounded delicious - especially where the judges said the caramel had seeped into the cake and made it like candy - nothing bad there!

When she was talking about her championship crown at the beginning, I was thinking "Uh oh, pageant girl alert."

I felt for Levi, but I think he unconsciously sabotaged himself. He tried too hard to go over the top, over-extended himself, and couldn't recover when things went south. Also, my sister said he jinxed himself when he said he had a cake all planned for the finale. I'd like to see him get a second chance in one of their "special" competitions. Oscar, too.

Tasi would be too much for me IRL (I'm diagnosing through my TV and saying she must have some ADHD), but I got a kick out of watching her on this show. It's nice to see a kid be openly excited about things and not so controlled.

I haven't watched the finale...and won't since I saw that Lila won. Boooo!! Lol!

Lila really came around the past few episodes, and I think she deserved the win.  

 

Disappointed and surprised that Levi didn't make the finale, but he definitely had a very bad semi-final bake.  

 

I really loved Oscar.  He seems like such a well-mannered and all-around great kid.  Loved when he cried when Elsie was eliminated, and he seemed genuinely happy for Lila when she won.  

 

Wouldn't mind seeing any of the final 5 in another season.  They all seemed like good kids who could definitely bake.

I thought the finale judging was fair.  Lilah's cake must have tasted really good and the decoration was the prettiest and cleanest.  Tasi was fun to watch--a free spirit.  I am constantly amazed at the abilities of these very young people!  I shudder to think how I would have come across on a pressure packed competitive national tv show at age 11!

I have to say that Levi and Oscar were my favorites for the season.  So mature and such caring guys.  I'd love to see them again on an all star season.

This show is just a sweet little fun show to watch.  It's very soothing and comforting.  I'm sad to see Val go (I wish her well!) and hope they will find another host who can bring that comfortable vibe.

Somehow I missed the finale,  was its a 2 part episode last week?  I will watch even though I know the outcome, but don't know how I missed it?

Did anyone catch the Halloween special that aired on Monday? The requirement to use peppers was definitely a risk on the part of TPTB/The hosts.

We missed it. We only knew about it because our dvr caught the last little bit before the Halloween Baking show started. Was it worth checking to see if it's OnDemand?

Oh, and I totally recognized the winning boy. He looked just like he did when he was younger. What was his name???

Frosting the Snowman was a cute theme for this competition.  I didn't recognize (sorry if I spell this wrong) Amari - she has really grown up since her first appearance.  All four seemed to be good kids and really supportive of one another.  Oscar has always cracked me up and it is obvious to me that the others look up to him because he seems to have a great knowledge of baking.

I was so happy Camryn won! I thought Oscar was being a bit mouthy and argumentative during the judging, so I wasn't disappointed he didn't win. His gingerbread man's scarf was definitely a braid and not knitted and apparently his cake was dry. Elsie is still a little pistol! I think that girl is going to go far in life.

I thought she was great with the kids. She gave advice and a needed hug.

I was always a big fan of how Duff and Valerie worked together on this show.  I never saw her anywhere else so my impression was positive.  Then, maybe a year ago, I started seeing comments various places saying that she was practically unhinged on her private pages and used a lot of foul language.  I never checked for myself but, if that's true, I can understand why FN let her go.  I have no problem with Kardea.  

So far, I like all the kids this season.  I like Jack and the little redhead with freckles.  Duff looked distressed when he had to send someone home.  I imagine it's harder for him now that he has a little girl of his own.

I don't know who Kardea is but so far so good.  It'll take a week or so to determine if I like her.  Over the years I grew tired of Valerie although if they didn't treat her well that would bother me. 

Hard to judge the bakers on the basis of this one episode.  If I were working with my own child I would emphasize recovery from making a mistake.  I think these young kids are talented enough to complete the initial assignment but if something goes wrong they are thrown off completely. Admittedly you cannot always recover nicely from a mistake. 

I enjoy this show and hope all of the contestants get something from it.  I completely agree with the person above who suggested that they not eliminate someone in the first week.

Love the little girl with the red hair and freckles!  I also have a soft spot for the little cowboy from Stephenville - my daughter went to college at Tarleton in Stephenville which is the #1 rodeo college (my daughter did not rodeo...LOL) in the US, so he honestly probably does dress like that on a routine basis. I don't mind Kardea but she's judged several shows recently so I've grown accustomed to her - and to me this show is toned down Kardea.  I also liked Valerie so I was sorry to see her go.

This is a really likeable group of kids, I'm not seeing a lot of backtalk or excuses or entitlement like some seasons. I have my favorites (Carter, Micah) but I'd be happy to see any of them win. 

And as always Duff wins every episode.

Now I understand why they ask bakers to make 12. It's to see if there's consistency across the items. Not many of the kids did well in that regard. I thought the hippos looked better than the frogs. I guess it came down to the twist.
