formerlyfreedom May 29, 2014 Share May 29, 2014 When a Sheriff’s Deputy is critically injured, TC faces a personal challenge and struggles to do everything to save him, even calling in a cardiac specialist over the objections of his boss Ragosa. Topher and Krista assist in the delicate surgery, while Jordan works to keep the peace and keep the ER running. Paul must attend to an elderly woman with a very challenging case. Kenny deals with an injured groom who has been hiding a secret from his bride. Meanwhile, Drew and Landry are faced with a 9-year-old boy who has suspicious injuries. While they initially suspect the mother, the truth is a little more complicated. Link to comment
CofCinci May 29, 2014 Share May 29, 2014 (edited) Second chances... Great episode name for a show that was so terrible/cheesy that I'm not sure I'm going to give it a second chance. Well, I gave it a Second Chance... This show is so cheesy and so ADHD that I absolutely love it. That kid with multiple personalities flinging himself on the floor in rage was hysterical. The hot psychiatrist and asshole paper pusher Ragosa will be knocking boots soon. More angst for Dr. PTSD. Speaking of Dr. PTSD was his brother the lover of Dr. Brendan Fehr? MzLiz June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 I love this show. I'm not searching for the meaning of life here, I just want to be entertained. I find it quite entertaining. TC is such the tortured bad boy. Cliche yes, but he's so good at it. He and his ex have serious chemistry. I can see where this is leading. There is not a character that I don't like even the ball busting administrator. I was actually shocked 3 times tonight. 1) That Nick actually died 2) That the kid was the culprit instead of the victim and 3) the tattoos under that guys beard. I can't wait until next week 2 Link to comment
LittleIggy June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 I was rolling my eyes that potential organ donor guy was a match for Nick. The idiot who had his face tattooed-- I felt bad for him because he may have sincerely repented his youthful idiocy. He should look into laser removal. Link to comment
Maverick June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 If there was a non-alcoholic drinking game for the tropes on this show, I'd still get alcohol poising from the Club Soda. So Freddy's character isn't just an asshole, bean counting administrator, he also had to drop out of med school because of his sight AND his wife left him AND he can't talk to his children. With a background like that, he could win any Food Network competition show he wanted. What nationality is the guy playing TC? Because he sounds like he's trying to cover up an accent. He sounds to me like Irishmen who try to cover their brogue but talking deep and growly (looking at you, Liam Neeson). So one of the kids alters was beating up the mom? I thought when the mom had injuries the implication was a dad/boyfriend was beating both of them and she was protecting him. The kid being the abuser still doesn't explain a) why the kid has alters in the first place b) why the alter has a hate on for the mom and c) why the mom being arrested brought out the abusing alter. If he didn't like, the mom shouldn't he have been glad she was being taken away. 2 Link to comment
thuganomics85 June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 Man, they are just making TC the most specialist doctor on the planet, huh? Not only did his brother die and he himself, took out his heart to save a friend, the reason he got discharged was because he dared to stand up to Donald Rumsfeld? Maybe next week we'll find out he got in George Bush's face, as well! He's the greatest! Oh, you silly show. Remember, kids! If your getting hazed, it helps to be attractive. That way, when they glue your ass to a chair, you can just take your pants off and shake that perfect, now tight underwear-clad ass, and they will cheer and applaud you! Congrats on winning the gene pool, Krista! Sucks to be you, Paul, you're buying the drinks tonight! Once TC and Jordan rekindle the flame, Administrator D-Bag Freddy Rodriguez and Dr. Nora from Revolution will totally hook-up too. I am so sticking with this show. It is so dumb and entertaining. Plus, I do like Topher and Drew. Brendan Fehr's face during the kid freak-out alone, was priceless. I could just see him thinking "Man, this is insane! I think she pulled it out of her pocket. You know, at some point, didn't anyone associated with the production just stand back and say "This is just ridiculous"? Good Queen Jane June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 I can almost hear Jill Flint thinking, " I left the Hamptons for this?" I'm only watching because of Ken Leung, but I don't know how long even he can keep me. 1 Link to comment
Sandman June 4, 2014 Share June 4, 2014 Wait, Anthony (?), the kid with the multiple personalities, was abusing his mother? I did not get that at all. That one of the alters was a ragewad doesn't prove anything, I don't think. Certainly not that his mother wasn't abusing him. I figured that someone else was abusing both of them. More importantly, I don't believe it was medically necessary for Sexy the Shrink to provoke Anthony into violence in hopes of calling up another personality. I think there's probably a rule or six against TC's operating on the patient he hopes will die to save his friend. Just sayin'. Link to comment

Would have been more amusing if this wasn't already done by Izzy in Season 1 of Grey's Anatomy, although it was her breasticles and bra that she put on display. Even in the ER, don't they wear scrubhats if they are cutting someone's heart open? At least the female staffers were shown to have their hair tied back in a ponytail... Didn't they close ep 1 with Freddy Rodriguez and an oh-so-poignant reveal? And unless family court has specifically limited your contact or severed your parental rights, the Mom can't legally cut off contact between him and his kids. He needs to contact the San Antonio branch office of McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak - their LA office handled a wide array of legal matters and had good hair. Maybe Arnie Becker or Victor Sifuentes can be the senior partner. Dr. Harley O'Smolder (totally stolen, so thanks to Tara came up with that) had crazy eyes in some scenes. Couldn't decide if it was acting or accidental. Night Shift is falling into the "so bad it's good" classification for me right now. If they're trying to say that he's a trauma surgeon and/or that he's got mad skills from everything he did in Afghanistan, they're doing a really bad job of it. Although to be fair, he didn't perform Nick's transplant, the Doctors Without Borders surgeon did. And the emergency repair he did in order to get Nick's heart going again actually was closer to what I assume his actual job is, so I can let that one slide. Although, what kind of lousy doctors are there whooping it up with a transplant patient who just had his chest cracked after being shot? Link to comment

athelyna June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 So is Dr. Army Stu the only surgeon actually at the hospital during the night shift? Because this show caused me to start googling "trauma centers" and found out to be a level 1 trauma center, according to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trauma_center, you have to have multiple surgeons on staff and are supposed to have cover a variety of specialities, including neurosurgery. So I don't think this hospital can be a level 1 trauma center, but that means new boss lady lied in the last episode when she said they were the only trauma center in the region, because first google link for "san antonio trauma center" brings up a Texas department of health website that lists all the trauma centers in the state, and there are 2 level 1 trauma centers in San Antonio, University Hospital and BAMC, the US Army hospital, plus a few other level 2 and level 3 trauma centers at other hospitals. Mostly I sort of laughed at how both episodes featured "the neurosurgeon is still an hour away" because I happen to have a cousin that's a neurosurgeon for the Air Force in San Antonio. My parents also moved to San Antonio a couple years ago, so while I'm not super familiar with the city I have been there several times. So far other than the ex military guys being the bulk of the staff it doesn't seem like the show is really pulling anything unique from being set in San Antonio. They seem to act more like San Antonio is some small city that may be large for the region it's in and can only have this one hospital, but San Antonio is a very large city, with multiple hospitals. I drive past at least 5 coming in from the Interstate to where my parents live. I'll probably end up watching the rest because while there are so many things wrong with this show it did move quickly enough to keep me entertained and nothing really reached throw stuff at the screen levels of awful, so so far it's staying on the right side of the so bad it's good line. 1 Link to comment

dubbel zout June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 "the neurosurgeon is still an hour away" Any doctor who's on call has to be within five or ten minutes of the hospital, if not in the hospital itself. Oh, Show! So far other than the ex military guys being the bulk of the staff it doesn't seem like the show is really pulling anything unique from being set in San Antonio Yeah, this might as well have been set in Anytown. When they were talking about going out after work, the hazed newbie doctor mentioned River Walk and got shot down for being too touristy (to which he replied, "I am a tourist," hee), but other than that and throwing around some interstate numbers, there's nothing particular to San Antonio (or even Texas) about the show. Irishmaple June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 This show is starting to feel like Crisis to me. I like most of the other characters but I want the male lead to die a horrible death. He's so intense he comes off as unhinged. I know PTSD has many symptoms but what I'm seeing in TC is major anger management failure, an overdeveloped sense of entitlement and 'people indulge my assy behaviour so I'm not going to change it' which I have seen in dozens of characters before this one. The confrontations with Ragosa have all begun with TC physically assaulting the man in some manner. I thought the shrink was way out of line when she deflected Ragosa's request for an assessment of TC by implying that the confrontations were because of Ragosa's issues and not TC's behaviour . The fact that she's counselling one side of the disagreements while sleeping with the other looks a bit unethical to me. The show is acting like TC walks on water but all I see is a human resources nightmare and a crippling lawsuit in scrubs. I'm going to need the other characters to start calling TC on his bs or this show isn't going to work for me. It's a hospital show and the "caring" doctor is making me root for the bottom-line, treatment-denying bureaucrat. That's a first. 1 Link to comment

There's no doubt in my mind that this show is full of unexploded (and probably unintended, certainly unacknowledged) ethical time-bombs, Sexy the Shrink's personal relationships with Tragic Coincidences and Lil' Angry Onion Ragosa among them. But I thought it was inappropriate for Ragosa to ask the shrink (behind TC's back) for an informal assessment; really, what he was asking for was for her to validate his low opinion ("He's a nutjob, right? Give me something I can use.") Sexy and TC are current (future?) bed partners, aren't they? Does Ragosa have an idea of this? starri June 5, 2014 Share June 5, 2014 But I thought it was inappropriate for Ragosa to ask the shrink (behind TC's back) for an informal assessment; Diagnosing someone a shrink hasn't personally examined can get a psychiatrist thrown out of the American Psychiatric Association. Honestly, a list of things this show gets right would be very short. I also find it a teensy bit convenient that TC, his brother, and his Army buddy would all be serving together in a war zone, and then that an amazing transplant surgeon with Doctors Without Borders would also happen to be from their hometown as well. That said, I got confused (because I wasn't watching carefully) at the M*A*S*H-like scenario of what appeared to be a rooftop party patio. Crammed with off duty workers (who weren't even tired after working the night shift---or maybe they just live there), looked like a circus. Maybe it wasn't the rooftop party area, but all of a sudden someone had jumped off of the roof ABOVE them, onto the food truck that was (obviously wasn't) on the roof. I was way confused. Shades of Red June 24, 2014 Share June 24, 2014 What nationality is the guy playing TC? Because he sounds like he's trying to cover up an accent. He sounds to me like Irishmen who try to cover their brogue but talking deep and growly (looking at you, Liam Neeson). I agree. I usually don't notice when people's accents slip until they're really obvious, and in this episode it was enough for me to imdb the actor to check his nationality. I'll be sticking to this for a while - eye candy one of the prime reasons. My nitpick for this, unless I imagined it, was everyone calling TC "T". Don't call people by one initial - irritates me to no end. Not sure why, but it does. I can put away any of hope of this having any kind of basis in reality so the lack of medical authenticity doesn't bug me. As a military brat and ex-military wife I can tell you I've come across lots of military guys who grow their hair when they get out of the military. It's almost a rebellion thing for them. Not everyone does it, but I've seen enough that do that TC having longer hair rings true to me. The part with him being able to do various surgeries doesn't bother me either knowing that necessity is the mother of invention and knowing that while in a war zone in real life many people end up doing things they haven't been trained for because they have no other choice. From a very Canadian point of view, every time I hear about procedures/tests/etc being denied because of no insurance I shake my head. As someone who lives in a country with national healthcare this still boggles my mind that the U.S. medical system will let people die/go undiagnosed/untreated because they can't pay for things. With all the artistic license that happens on tv shows it freaks me out to know that this part is true and not fictional. 3 Link to comment
driver18 July 23, 2018 Share July 23, 2018 I know this is way after the fact and no one will read this... but this is so frustrating. I'm reading so many comments dogging the show and making snarky comments and it's just.... arggh! Because so many of the snarky comments are about things that are actually addressed ON THE SHOW and therefore invalid! It's not the show's fault that snarky viewers aren't paying attention and instead blaming the show for bad writing when it is in fact the viewer's own inattention at fault. Geez! Link to comment
