auchic February 22, 2022 Share February 22, 2022 Episode 15.16 - Bloodlines I quite liked Mrs. Hart during this episode; she's much better when the plots don't involve her idiot husband. I also liked that Brackenreid came in to help trusting her and her friend. I hadn't known about the Niagara Conference and it being in Canada, so I'm interested to learn more. Harry's plot was sweet. I love that he is basically William Jr. being an inventions geek. No Watts or George, boo. Fingers crossed for next week Spoiler which has Terrence Meyers!!! 6 Link to comment

James Naismith invented basketball in 1891, about 20? years before this episode. S15.E17 Bloodlines: Quote Violet Hart investigates when a protester dies at an event for Black people's rights I guess that this is the annual February Black history episode, I thought that it was quite good. I'm not a fan of Mrs. Hart but she didn't put a step wrong here. Cassie, on the other hand... they really haven't got a handle on the character. I liked Braclenreid coming on to help but not trying to change Murdoch and his mini-me were funny. A good use of Harry while they had him. Mark Taylor seems to be in everything. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Coroner later in the week. 5 Link to comment
Grundoon59 February 22, 2022 Share February 22, 2022 S15.E17 Bloodlines I enjoyed the episode - a million years ago in a college history class, we had to do an exercise involving the different viewpoints in the civil rights movement of the early 20th Century and I was part of the W.E.B. Dubois group so I have always had a fond spot for him even if I didn't always agree with his viewpoint - he had a remarkable career. My appreciation for Mrs. Hart continues to grow but I am still not sure whether Cassie is someone to be fully trusted or not. I figured out part of the who done it reasonably early but not the why. I liked Brackenreid's attitude and helpfulness but have to wonder if he would have been the same before Nomi became part of his life. I liked the Julia/William/Harry story but I am ready for a break from the Harry stories for a minute. Nothing against the young actor but I will appreciate the air time given him to be used to see more of George, Watts, Higgins, other characters. 4 Link to comment

Too many commercials, I assume they must have cut a lot of the show to make time. Was busy on Saturday and the DVR didn't record, so I watched on the Ovation website. For me it played without any commercials at all, I wonder if my popup blocker prevented the commercials, although that seems strange since most websites will force you to allow commercials. I enjoyed the show although I admit I had forgotten most of the details from the prior season finale and in fact a lot of minor details about what was going on with the other characters. The only thing I remembered was Anna Fulford turning up with the boy and then disappearing. I had forgotten about Miss Hart who apparently has drugged/killed her husband, George being kidnapped by the twins, and Brackenreid's missing son. My biggest issue is that I didn't recognise Freddie Pink at all. I had to wait until her name was mentioned before I remembered. At one point I was wondering if she was Miss Cherry. I had this issue last year too... too many women on the show have the exact same look. Blondish / light brown hair in that heart shaped onion bulb hairstyle. Ruth Newsome Higgins, Miss Cherry, Freddie Pink, Anna Fulford, Evil Twin 1 and Evil Twin 2. The storyline with Julia trying to save the husband. I'm assuming this is supposed to parallel what she feels inside. Here we have a long-married couple and the wife would do anything for her husband and was talking about him never leaving her. Meanwhile, William is off traipsing around looking for his old girlfriend and the mother of his son. Which is something that Julia has never been able to give to him. I think that's why she seems so determined to save the husband. 3 Link to comment

Grundoon59 March 1, 2022 Share March 1, 2022 Episode 15.18 - Patriot Game - I agree @auchic - the best part for me was watching Watts' reactions to Terrence Meyers. Everyone else has gotten so used to the insanity Meyers brings with him that seeing him with fresh eyes was wonderful (plus it was Watts). Also loved the reveal on Project Iguana. Happy they gave Margaret something more to do - do not mess with her or her man. Always delightful to see George and enjoyed Higgins wanting more time with the ballerina. I also liked the refresher course on Russian/Korean/Japanese early 20th century history. I learned some of it back in college but had forgotten the ins and outs. 8 Link to comment

Agreed, I too miss the self-contained episodes. I liked when Murdoch used some kind of new invention or when something that we know as common was newfangled. Like the guy selling slices of pizza. (Which this episode did introduce the Montreal steamie.) I also miss especially when Murdoch would use his "second sight" and we would see re-enactments of how he envisioned the crime to have happened. 13 hours ago, Prevailing Wind said: 15.1 Premiered on Acorn today: Yikes. Way way way too much happening, and not enough in the "previouslies" to remind us of it all. In an earlier season, the storyline of the dead Japanese wife would have been the ONLY plotline (or maybe one of two). And it would have played out a lot more cleverly and creatively. marina to March 6, 2022 Share March 6, 2022 Just watched 15.17 & 15.18. My big takeaway watching these two back to back is how they can still give us fresh stories by delving into the worlds of the various subgroups of early 20th century Toronto. No needing to put our regular cast in peril required. Was nice to see the perspective of the Niagara Conference (although they did fudge things a bit - only the first conference was in Canada and the site was chosen not because they couldn't book stateside but because they wanted recreational facilities) and the founding of the NAACP. And I knew nothing of the Russo-Japanese War so appreciated getting into the intricacies of that. And oh my - I loved Meyers and Watts. Great comedy duo there. More of the two of them befuddling each other, please! 1 5 Link to comment

auchic March 8, 2022 Share March 8, 2022 Episode 15.18 - Brother Can You Spare a Crime? Another enjoyable episode, although the case was a little boring. I called it being the brother, but I figured he found out Opal was giving the camp folks money/food and got pissed off. Sad how it actually happened, and wow that they were willing to keep the truth a secret after their father killed Morris. More of Watts and Murdoch working together please! Ah Brackenreid. Liked him sticking up for the waitress but yeah, it's going to cost more if she and the rest of the staff are getting paid a living wage. And it was nice they showed how close many people are to being unhoused, even with a full-time job. Margaret gets to be awesome again. I liked that she was able to help the baby and the mother, and that she was able to reassure Julia that no one is born with motherhood knowledge, it's something that has to be learned. Grundoon59 March 8, 2022 Share March 8, 2022 15.19 - Brother Can You Spare a Crime? Utterly agree with @auchic and @peacheslatour, Watts is my favorite and needs to be happy. But I will admit to wondering if Milo was not necessarily someone to rely on for the long term. Maybe he will return soon but his the manner of his departure was definitely not cool. I was also suspicious of the family especially given their demonization of the people in the camp. I hope the father, son and daughter all have pay a price for their actions, especially since no one except Murdoch and Watts seemed to give a rip about Morris. Sounds like Opal was the gem (pardon the pun) of the family although not entirely saintly. Glad Murdoch and Watts didn't give up until the truth came out. Glad they are giving Margaret something more to do this season - she did a good job of still looking haunted by Bobby's situation at the beginning of the episode but having some of it erased as she settled in at the clinic and was helping others. Good on ya Brackenreid for putting pressure on the cafe owner but you need to put your money where your mouth is (and he did). 7 Link to comment
marina to March 12, 2022 Share March 12, 2022 15.19 Brother Can You Spare a Crime Called it early that it would be someone in the family. Was trying to remember if it was just the father wanting to demonize the camp dwellers and the son saying nothing or if he joined in. If the former, than it's just tragic. If it's the latter, the son is a jerk. Loved how Julia found a way for Margaret to redirect her energies. It was great that she had something to contribute. Also chiming in that it's great that they are using her more as a character in her own right this season. In fact, this season all the women are being used well, which is nice. Poor Watts. Dumped twice in one season. As was said, let him be happy. I'm also thrilled with next week's special guest. He's my favourite reoccurring character. 6 Link to comment
blackwing March 14, 2022 Share March 14, 2022 15.3 - Manhunt I liked that this episode seemed to get back to "old school" Murdoch without the long lingering plots from earlier. However, it did seem like this episode may have been filmed or written out of order as it contained almost zero references to the events in the first two episodes of Season 15. The twins are on the run. Bobby Brackenreid is on the run. Violet Hart's husband is still in some kind of drugged state. Anna Fulford is off to England with William's son. None of this was mentioned at all. The only thing was that Effie was consulting with Julia about her anxiety. But no appearance by George, no mention if he and Effie are still together, no mention of looking for the twins. No mention by Brackenreid of Bobby (no appearance at all by his wife, wouldn't she be worried about Bobby?). And Julia and William seem back to normal, she doesn't seem like she doubts him anymore or that she has to prove herself as a wife to him. Nothing about Violet's husband either. I guess the "Mrs." designation was to designate a married woman even if she kept her own name? Was this the precursor to "Ms."? She was "Miss Hart" then "Mrs. Carmichael" after she got married. Then she said she took back her name, so now everyone calls her "Mrs. Hart". I know she went to a lawyer and she had secretly forced him to sign over assets to her and then she wanted her own name back. What do the others think happened to her husband? She wanted her own name back, is she still married, are they separated, are they divorced? I did like seeing Giles again, I liked that he risked his own safety to try and free an innocent man, and I liked that Murdoch let him go. 5 Link to comment
auchic March 15, 2022 Share March 15, 2022 Episode 15.19 - Pendrick's Planetary Parlour I mean, of all the absurd things Murdoch Mysteries "invents" ahead of their time, the internet is certainly a choice. But it's James Pendrick and even though absurd is what he does, he just makes it so fun. Peter Stebbings is probably my favourite recurring guest star for this reason. At least they stopped accusing him of all the murders; one of these days, he's going to actually kill someone and get away with it, since it's never Pendrick 😂. Not enough Murdoch geeking out though; those are my favourite parts about Pendrick episodes, how childishly gleeful he gets over the silly things Pendrick does. Also how put out he gets when Pendrick pays attention to someone else in the station house and offers them jobs out of nowhere lol. I'm with Murdoch though; no one wants to read books on a computer/phone/tablet 🤣. Knew Trent was the killer. The money guy surrounded by computer nerds? Big giveaway there. I find it funny that he accused Pendrick about not caring about profits, when OG James Pendrick was very much about the money as well as the science. George is back! I was a little worried that he would actually leave but yay, he's staying AND he's getting promoted, AND has the possibility of being detective one day! But it doesn't matter how high he goes, he'll never be able to call Murdoch "William"". He did wonderful work this episode, and I liked how he worked with the programming lady to help solve the case. Not enough Watts, but what we got was enough for me. I feel like the Bobby Brackenreid resolution will be season finale stuff. But hopefully Margaret gets some peace. And that's really saying something for a show in its 15th season. Lovely to see Jonathan Young in an equally nerdy but very different role than his Tesla vampire on Sanctuary. I liked how they wrote Struthers too, smart, creative but not in a romantic way. Porn and cat pictures on the Face Space (is that what it's called?) Did they get drunk in the writers room to come up with things to put in this episode? Either that or drugs. I"m glad that George came out better in the end 6 Link to comment

buckboard March 15, 2022 Share March 15, 2022 15.3 - Manhunt Yes, it was good to get back to the old school story lines - Julia being consulted for her medical knowledge, Brackenreid coaching a women's sports team, escaped former inspector Gilies being helped by Murdock to track down a killer ... I particularly liked Murdock sympathizing with Gilies and letting him escape and then getting his gun returned in a package from out West. Brackenreid and the women getting the hang of and enjoying playing this new game. "Play ball!" I know no plot lines are ever over on MM, but it was time to give the Anna Fullford and her son being chased by the Black Hand story a rest for now. Grundoon59 March 16, 2022 Share March 16, 2022 (edited) Episode 15.20 - Pendrick's Planetary Parlour I am not as great a fan of James Pendrick as others in the Murdochian fan universe are (I am now ducking out of the way to avoid the ire of the Pendrick admirers) but I did enjoy the episode. I made a guess at who was the likely killer early on and was proved right but did like the journey in getting to the reveal. Especially liked Struthers and wouldn't mind her popping up again in the future. Also glad to see George featured so prominently and was worried that he might be taking steps away from the police force (if I am remembering his appearance on Frankie Drake, he made some successful investments that enabled him to live comfortably in the 1920s and that could have started with Pendrick). Continuing to feel for Margaret and have a sense that as Julia warned, she may find out something she does not want to know. Edited March 16, 2022 by Grundoon59 7 Link to comment

I enjoyed 15.4 Blood on the Tracks as well, even if it was really obvious to me from the beginning that the porter was the bad guy, and not the fireman with the "I'm really suspicious so I'm clearly not the killer" sign over his head. I loved the exchange with the four women in the beginning about the post-mortem volleyball game, with intense Miss Cherry asking Effie if she did the finger exercises and exasperated Effie sweetly replying "No. I did not." Mrs. Hart telling Brackenreid that someone could not graciously accept defeat. I thought this episode had great character development for both Miss Cherry and Mrs. Hart. Miss Cherry was hilarious in the beginning with her militant chastisement of her team, but then the rest of the episode, she was helpful in the investigation. And for once, not annoying. I thought Mrs. Hart was a real star here. We previously have just seen sinister and devious and ambitious Violet Hart, but this season it seems they are softening her a bit. Putting her on the volleyball team seemed so random, but it has been nice not seeing her plot against her husband (although I suspect that issue may pop again). I enjoyed seeing Julia place such trust in Violet, I enjoyed seeing her treating patients, and I thought I caught a gleam of excitement from her at one point. I think she might end up going to medical school. I am hazy on Watts' boyfriend. If I remember correctly, last season he admitted to Watts that he was marrying a beard. The beard caught the two of them lying on a bed together, but said she was going to marry him anyways because she was pregnant and needed a husband. So now, she fully knows well that he is gay and doesn't care that he still sees Watts? He seemed to be an attentive father so maybe he gets what he wants too, a beard and Watts too? Julia and Violet and Thomas were the focus of the A plot, so it was nice to see Murdoch in the B plot but still inventing things like a drone. Apparently it has been 6 months since the kidnapping of George and Effie. There was no explanation for George's absence the past two episodes. 4 Link to comment

Glad the baby arrived safely as well. Not sure what to make of Ms. Hart's involvement in the proceedings - I was starting to enjoy her so much more that this seemed like a real turn but I guess I don't mind her having varying layers. I am also not as thrilled as I was a while ago with Milo. It seems as if he and Watts want different things from their relationship but Milo was jealous of Jack & Watts while seeming to play down Watts' being jealous. I hope they can work it out because I want Watts to be happy again but I fear that Milo may not be the end game for him. 5 Link to comment

LisaM March 25, 2022 Share March 25, 2022 I really enjoyed Blood on the Tracks (15.4). The volleyball team was an interesting catalyst for Misses Hart, Cherry, Newsome and Ogden. I would like to see more of that grouping. Murdoch being outwitted by Baby Jordan was quite funny -- and out of character. I must have forgotten that Watts' boyfriend's wife was aware that he was gay. 4 Link to comment
marina to March 26, 2022 Share March 26, 2022 (edited) Episode 15.21 - Devil's Music Now I see why we got the salon set. Musicians! Lead Belly was great to see. I saw that 12 string and thought, "did they exist then?" But that's his signature instrument, so it had to be there. Geddy Lee was so much fun! The whole giving birth in a cabin is such a plot staple I'm not surprised they went that way. Boy are they both adorable with the baby. I agree, the baby is big! (Could that be Helene Joy's actual child? She did talk about still having to appear pregnant after having her baby.) And naming her Susanna is just perfect. Ms Hart has always seen Miss Bright as a pest and has never trusted her but saw the business opportunity in the salon. And now she finds out the person she set up to oversee her interests is involved with the person they are supposed to be overseeing? Not surprised she acted as she did. I didn't see any change to her character. The irony, of course, is that they are both a lot alike. She's not really enjoying seeing her own former actions from the outside. This is an interesting angle to play. It's also in character for Milo to want all the attention. I like that fact that he's open about having more than one interest (poly represent!). But he was a brat about Jack and I would like to see Watts have a discussion with him about that. If it doesn't work for Watts, cool. I just don't want to see Milo set up as being bad just because he's poly. Edited March 26, 2022 by marina to 7 Link to comment
buckboard March 27, 2022 Share March 27, 2022 (edited) 15.5 Love or Money It was good to see Effie and George together and happy. We've seen George's aunts in a few episodes. We know they were prostitutes, but I don't recall Zinna or any of the others conning unsuspecting women out of large sums of money. Her lying repeatedly to George and Murdock and running off was calculatingly criminal, not cute, like the aunts behavior previously. Why does Julia stay at that hospital with all the incompetent male doctors and why does she put up with administration that is anti-female? Haven't we seen a women's hospital in Toronto in a previous episode? (It was run by women doctors for women and children.) Edited March 27, 2022 by buckboard 7 Link to comment
