Exactly, especially since Slade's whole motivation started because Oliver had no choice in a situation that would've resulted in the death of one of two women he cared for. Slade lost his mind, putting in an isolated cell is going to do nothing to help him get it back. It will probably make him even more crazy.

True, I mean he's already hallucinating like he's on acid and the incarnation of whom he's seeing isn't even a fraction of the person he was in love with anyways. The guy's so far over the rainbow that he's basically living in a land of trolls. He needs death, and if he were any sort of man he would have offed himself because I don't know how he justifies putting a sword through either Moira or Thea for his own selfish reasons. He has a god complex but he's more like the devil but even the devil wasn't so singular in his goals, this dude is entirely solipsistic. The world only exists for Slade to play in, and no one else has a right to live because HE lost the woman he purports to love, whom btw wouldn't scarcely accept love from a bastard so fucked up and evil that he tortures and kills everything in and out of his path. Slade needs to grow up, be a man and put a bullet through his brain, I very rarely count characters as irredeemable but Slade IMO is leadiing that charge.

I shuddered when I saw that Slade was in solitary.  Solitary confinement makes even sane people crazy; what's it going to do to Slade?

And Slade will inevitably target Felicity when he escapes since he got played. Although, then we'd get Slade/Felicity scenes that wouldn't be bad at all.

I would think Slade would go after Felicity again if he got out. The fact that they didn't get to interact was a bummer. I really would've loved to see what came out of Felicity's brain if they had a dialogue.

The only good thing about when (not if) Slade returns is he won't be so unstoppable this time. He might have good armor like Malcolm but a correctly placed bullet or arrow will bring him down without the Mirakuru.

That'll be a relief, he really seemed insurmountable these past few episodes, it was scary in a way I don't quite like for my 8pm tv shows.

Huh, so I've been rewatching s1 and got ahead of the rewatch (I have no self control...must binge).  Anyway, the show totally gave away the island having a prison back in s1.  Oliver said "This island is a prison" so it was both metaphorical and actual.  Well done show. 

 

 

ETA: I guess I should say that they planted the seed for the prison reveal, not they gave it away. Again, well-played I say!

I keep finding new things on rewatch and realized that Oliver's "I love you" confession was whispered. Amell puts a lot of thought into his acting such as showing symptoms of Oliver's PTSD; there was a Q&A where he told a fan who noticed it that when he is stressed, Oliver's fingers twitch like he's shooting an arrow. By choosing to whisper his ILY, Amell shows that Oliver was not saying it for Slade's benefit, it was just for Felicity to hear.

I've given that thought. He does whisper/speak it very softly. The video camera may not even have picked it up.

The camera probably wouldn't pick it up if he said it softly and that suggests it was for Felicity herself, which may be why on the island she was asking if it was true or not.

 

SA has been hinting in interviews that it wasn't entirely a fake-out.... but October is a long time to wait to find out.

I am willing to bet on it that even in October, no on will come up and say it flat out loud ... it would be implied, yet again, because god forbid if they actually talk like regular humans, it would be so out of realm of CW dramas.

The CW is re-airing the finale tonight at 8pm est and SA is live tweeting during the episode.

 

On a side note, one of my favorite games to play while watching Arrow is spot the recurring cars, (it's weird, I know)  the tunnel fight is like my own private easter egg moment. The cab Oliver stands on to talk to Slade is the same cab the Count falls on in State vs. Queen , complete with the Count made dent above the windshield, the gold Chrysler Intrepid that splashes Barry Allen is there (it's also the most reused car in Arrow you can see it in almost every episode at some point), and the red BMW that the knife wielding john that picks up Sin is also there. The only one missing is the Suicide Squad van, that doubles as the Team Arrow van, but I did spot it in S3 spoiler pics so the van will be back. :D

One thing I noticed here, after watching my S1 DVDs, is that Oliver's "the mission comes first" statement is a callback. Back in S1 when Oliver intentionally got caugt on camera carrying his Hood gear and was put on house arrest, Diggle tries to explain to him how worried his family is about losing him again. Oliver's response? "The mission comes first."

You can buy the episodes pretty cheaply on iTunes. They're usually only a few bucks each. Otherwise, you're probably stuck downloading a torrent.

My biggest problem with the end of season 2 was that when Slade wanted "to kill the woman Oliver loves"- he did not take Sara.

 

Oliver chose Sara over Shadow, that is how it all started and Oliver spent most of season 2 in a relationship with her (under Slade's watching eye)- even making plans to move in together. It was a better and more of an epic way for Sara to die than what we got in S3 IMO.

 

We could still get that moment with O & F, lol.

Rewatching this episode on TNT: Sara and Oliver were such babies in the flashbacks. I caught the end of Streets of Fire yesterday and the same thing struck me when Oliver freed Sara in the ship, and she was crying, wanting to go home. They were both so out of their depths, traumatized and lonely and terrified when they found each other again on the Island. 

I think that innocence, if you will, was especially stark after watching them in the cross-over last night.

I did love season 2.

223 (Unthinkable) - DELETED SCENE: Oliver reimagines scene where he saves his mother from being killed by Slade Wilson:
Moira: "Both my children will live."
Thea (crying): "Mom! What are you doing? Mom!"
Moira: "Thea, I love you. Close your eyes, baby."
(Slade points gun at Moira.)
Oliver: "No!" (Works on loosening the ties around his wrists)
Slade: "You possess true courage. (Puts away gun) I am truly sorry... you did not pass that on to your son." (Pulls out sword)
(Oliver jumps up and knocks down Slade and gets his gun from him. He then hugs his mother.)
Thea (crying): "Ollie?"
Oliver: "It's over."
(Slade gets up and Oliver shoots him several times.)
*  *  *
(Oliver comes back to reality.)
Diggle: “Oliver. Oliver, man, you okay?”

223 (Unthinkable) – Roy is cured and regains consciousness; and Team Arrow escapes the watch tower using zip lines:
Diggle: “Oliver. Oliver, man, you okay?”
Oliver: “The cure's not working.” 
Felicity: “We don't know that. He still has a lot of Tibetan pit viper venom in his system.” 
(Alarm sounds.) 
Diggle: “What's that?” 
Felicity: “Proximity alarm. I rigged the tower with sensors just in case Slade's goons came here to kill us. Slade's goons are here to kill us.”
Oliver: “Talk to me, Felicity.”
Felicity: “They're inside. They're right underneath us.” 
Roy (groaning): “Where am I?”
(Roy fights goons.  Goon grabs Felicity’s ankle, and she screams.) 
Oliver: “Felicity! (Shoots arrow with cable out the watch tower window) Down the cable!”
(Diggle and Roy slide down the cable to another building’s rooftop.  Felicity grabs her laptop and waits until Oliver grabs her and slides them down the cable to join Diggle and Roy on the other building’s rooftop.)

223 (Unthinkable) – Team Arrow, Roy and Lyla return to a damaged Arrowcave, and divide up tasks:
Felicity: “Oh, my God!”
Roy: “What the hell happened?”
Diggle: “Slade's army. You were right about this place being compromised.” 
Oliver: “Lyla, your boss is going to bomb the city at dawn.” 
Diggle: “Yeah, Waller's never seen a problem she didn't think couldn't be solved with a drone strike.”
Lyla: “Why do you think I'm here?”
Diggle: “You knew Waller was looking to level the city and you came here anyway?”
Lyla: “You're here.”
Oliver: “You need to go back to A.R.G.U.S. You need to stop Waller or buy us enough time to stop Slade.”
Diggle: “Yeah, not without me. ‘Till death do us part,’ right?”
Lyla: “This time it might.” 
Oliver: “Guys? I need you to scrounge as many weapons as you can find, especially injection arrows. We're going to fill them with the cure - which clearly works - and this ends tonight, without killing. There's been enough death already.”

223 (Unthinkable) – Felicity reassures Roy and meets Nyssa al Ghul:
Roy: “Well, it seems like I missed a lot.” 
Felicity: “Well, what do you remember?” 
Roy: “Leaving town and heading to Bludhaven. Was I out cold the whole time? Felicity.” 
Felicity: “You were out. The whole time.” 
Diggle: “Slade has at least 50 or so of those human weapons. We'll need a whole army if we plan on hitting 'em with the cure.”
(Nyssa enters with Sara and some LOA assassins.)
Nyssa: “I know. Which is why an army is what I've brought.” 
*  *  *
Felicity: “Gee, Sara, you could have called before you invited 5, 6, 7 assassins down into our top secret lair.” 
Oliver: “What is she doing here?” 
Sara: “I asked her to come.” 
Nyssa: “I'm Nyssa, daughter of Ra's al Ghul. Heir to the Demon.”
Felicity: “Felicity Smoak. M.I.T. Class of '09.” 
Oliver: “This is where you went? Nanda Parbat? The League of Assassins? These people are mercenaries, Sara. Whatever they promised you, it comes at a price.”
Sara: “You don't have to worry about it, because I've already paid it.”
Oliver: “You agreed to go back.”
Sara: “Look, I'm not going to let Slade Wilson hurt Laurel or my father. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep the ones that I love safe, and I hope you're ready to do the same. Especially after what happened. Ollie, I'm sorry about your mother.”
Oliver: “I am willing to do whatever it takes, but that doesn't mean cold-blooded killing is the answer, Sara. We have the cure now.”
Sara: “To fight the unthinkable, you have to be willing to do the unthinkable.”

223 (Unthinkable) – Team Arrow regroups with Sara, Nyssa and Quentin at Queen Consolidated; and Felicity gives Oliver an idea for defeating Slade:
Quentin: “Why does this Wilson guy have such a mad-on for the Queens?”
Felicity: “I don't know. Good thing Thea and Oliver got out of town in time.”
Quentin: “So they have to go after my family? (Sees Nyssa) What's she doing here?”
Sara: “She's here to help. Just trust me, please.” 
Quentin: “I guess today I'll have to work with anybody who can help get my daughter back.” 
Sara: “What?” 
Quentin: “One of these masked guys, they took Laurel. I - I couldn't stop them. Believe me, I - I tried.” 
Felicity: “Oh, we have a new, big problem. Which, considering our other ones, is really saying something. I hacked a satellite and tasked it for thermographic imaging. All of Slade's men are gathering at the Giordano Tunnel.” 
Quentin: “I thought these guys were trying to destroy the city, not escape it.” 
Oliver (in GA suit, using disguised voice): “A.R.G.U.S. is going to level the city to stop them from getting out. That's what Slade's planning on. He knows Waller's tactics.”
Nyssa: “Fortunately, with Slade's men attempting to leave via the tunnel, all our targets will be grouped in a single place.” 
Oliver: “We need to take it. Gather your men.” 
Quentin: “What about Laurel? Wilson took her for a reason.”
Oliver: “I know what it is. But the city comes first.” 
Quentin: “This is my daughter. This is your sister! You can't just leave her like this! Look, I know you said you were trying another way, and I respect that. But Slade Wilson? His men? They're monsters. And monsters, they need to be destroyed. You've killed before. Tonight, I suggest you get back in the habit.” (Leaves)
Felicity: “He's wrong.”
Oliver: “He's right. I've lost everything because I'm fighting Slade Wilson with one hand tied behind my back. The man murdered my mother. I have to kill him.”
Felicity: “You told me you had a choice. That years ago, you could have cured Slade but you chose to kill him instead. This isn't happening because you're not willing to be a killer; it's happening because you were one."
Oliver: “You're right. That's how this started. It's how it has to end. The only move that he has left for me is to kill him. I can't cure him, I can't capture him, I can't even out-think him!”
Felicity: “Then don't. Just - make him outthink you.”
(Oliver looks at her.)

223 (Unthinkable) – Oliver tells Felicity that he loves her in the Queen Mansion fake-out scene (as aired) :
Felicity: “Oliver. What are we doing here? The whole city's falling apart.”
Oliver: “I know. (Exhales) You need to stay here.”

Slade: “And I pity them. But once again, you miss the point. I have the one you love. You're going to meet me where I say. Otherwise, I'm going to kill her.”
Oliver: “No, you do what you have to. I'm done playing your games!”
Slade: “You're done when I say you're done! I was surprised. I thought you had a thing for stronger women, but now that I've met her, I can see the appeal. She is quite lovely, your Felicity.”

223 (Unthinkable) – Oliver tricks Slade, and Felicity injects Slade with the Mirakuru cure:
Slade: “'Twitch, and I will open your throat.' My first words to you. Do you remember? I do. I remember the exact moment. My blade against your neck. Just like my blade is against the neck of your beloved. If only I'd killed you then, everything would be different. Drop the bow, kid. Do it. (Felicity gasping) Yes. Countless nights dreaming of taking from you all that you took from me.”
Oliver: “By killing the woman I love?” 
Slade: “Yes.”
Oliver: “Like you love Shado.”
Slade: “Yes.”
Oliver: “You see her, don't you? Well, what does she look like in your madness, Slade? What does she say to you? I remember her being beautiful. Young. Kind. And she would be horrified by what you've done in her name.”
Slade: “What I have done? What I have done is what you lack the courage to do! To fight for her! So when her body lies at your feet, her blood wet against your skin, then you will know how I feel!”
Oliver: “I already know how you feel. I know what it's like to hate. To want revenge. And now I know how it feels to see my enemy so distracted, he doesn't see the real danger is right in front of him.”
(Felicity jabs the needle in Slade's neck and injects the Mirakuru cure.)

223 (Unthinkable) – Sara hands off her jacket to Laurel:
Sara: "It's time."
Quentin: "Why - why are they making you do this? (To Nyssa) Why are you making her do this? Huh, why?"
Sara: "Dad, she's not making me do anything. I chose this."
Quentin: "What am I going to tell your mother?"
Sara: "Tell her that, for the first time in my life, I'm deciding my own fate. She'll understand."
Quentin: "Yeah. (Hugs Sara) I love you, sweetheart."
Sara: "I love you, too, Dad."
Nyssa: "I know the power of a father's love. And I would die before I let anything happen to your daughter."
Quentin: "Well, here's hoping."
Laurel: "So, where you're going, will you be able to e-mail or call?"
Sara: "I'll see you again."
Laurel: "I know. If there's anything that I've learned this year, it's that you always find your way home. I will always be here waiting."
Sara: "I love you." (Laurel hugs her)
Laurel: "I love you."
Sara: "Oliver needs you. And hey... (Takes off her jacket) I think that this would look good on you." (Holds jacket out to Laurel)
(Laurel, with a HUGE smile on her face, puts on Sara's jacket. Quentin shakes his head.)
Laurel: "It fits."
(Sara briefly hugs and kisses Laurel on the cheek.)
Sara: "Bye, Dad." 
Quentin: "Bye, sweetheart."
(Sara leaves and boards the ship with Nyssa.)
Quentin (sighing): "About that jacket - don't get any ideas."
(Laurel laughs. Then they walk away.)
Laurel: "I could really use a meeting."
Quentin: "Yeah, probably a good idea for the both of us. Listen, I gotta pick up a little Pepto on the way because I'm feeling kinda weird."
Laurel: "Dad, she'll be okay."
Quentin: "Yeah, I know she'll be okay, but okay what is what bothers me." (Suddenly groans and clutches his chest)
Laurel: "Dad? Dad?"
(Quentin collapses to the ground. He’s coughing up blood.)
Laurel: "Dad? Dad! Dad!"
Quentin (weakly): "I can't get my breath. I can't -"
Laurel: "Dad, stay with me! Daddy, daddy, stay with me! (On phone) Hello! I need an ambulance. My father's SCPD. Yes! Now! Daddy, stay with me..."

223 (Unthinkable) - Felicity jokingly says to Oliver that the idea of them together is "unthinkable”:
(Oliver, Felicity and Diggle are walking along the beach on Lian Yu, after Slade is imprisoned in ARGUS' island prison.)
Felicity: “Last time I didn't notice - it's actually kind of beautiful here. Don't get me wrong, I'm counting the seconds until we shove off Minefield Island.”
Diggle: “So you think that'll be enough to hold him, A.R.G.U.S.'s Super Max?” 
Oliver: “Him and anyone else we send here. This battle may be over, but there will be others. Starting with getting my family's company back.” 
Felicity: “That's not going to be easy since you're poor now. You're going to have to get a job. If Slade doesn't scare you, that's got to.” 
Oliver: “Do you know anyone hiring ex-billionaires with superior archery skills?”
*  *  *
(Felicity looks at Diggle.)
Diggle: "Why don't I give you guys a moment." (Walks ahead)
Felicity: “Well, you did it.”
Oliver: “I had help.”
Felicity: “Yeah. That's really smart. How you out-foxed him. Talk about unthinkable. You and me, I mean. When you told me you loved me, you had me fooled. For a second, I - maybe you might have meant it... What you said. (Oliver smiles at her) You really sold it.”
Oliver: “We both did.”
(They look at each other for a long moment.)
Felicity: “Let's go home.”
(They catch up to Diggle.)
Oliver: “Dig, what was the news about you and Lyla?”
Diggle: “It can wait.”
Oliver: “I’m flying.”
Diggle: “Be my guest.”
Felicity: “I got one more question.”
Oliver: “Wouldn’t be you if you didn’t.”
Felicity: “If you spent five years on this island, when did you learn how to fly a plane?”
