Melissa is apparently filming Waco according to IMDB.

I forgot about her doing that this summer.  Maybe they're trying to get that finished (or at least her part) before she has to go back for Supergirl?

Star Wars and Game of Thrones Actor Miltos Yerolemou Could Have Been The Flash's Season 4 Big Bad
by Russ Burlingame | July 3, 2017

After Barry Allen's evil mirror duplicates were the central antagonists of the first two seasons of The Flash, and then Barry himself terrorized season 3, it seems as though Game of Thrones actor Miltos Yerolemou came fairly close to being the big bad in the forthcoming fourth season of the show.

The character, generally assumed to be The Thinker, is apparently "really smart" and a "fast talker," according to ComicBook.com reader Cody Legens, who passed along to Yerolemou's recollections from a recent spotlight panel at Nashville's Con of Thrones.

Yeromelou, who also had a minor role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens told an audience, per our e-mail tip, that he "read to be The Flash's next 'Big Bad' and the tagline was something along of the lines of 'The Fastest Man Alive vs. The Fastest Brain Alive.' He also said the role wasn't really for him as an actor. The casting director/showrunner gave him three pages of random Roman trivia to memorize and spit back out. Apparently this new 'Big Bad' is a fast talker. Really smart."

5:10–5:50 p.m. The Flash Special Video Presentation and Q&A — Running up against an evil time remnant version of yourself is something no one should ever have to do, but that’s exactly what faced Barry Allen (aka The Flash) as he fought to save the life of fiancée Iris West from the God of Speed known as Savitar. Barry’s victory was short-lived, however, as an unbalanced Speed Force began to wreak havoc on Central City, forcing Barry to sacrifice himself for the greater good. With The Fastest Man Alive now trapped inside an extra-dimensional energy, and unknown dangers lurking in the shadows, it will be up to Team Flash to free Barry from his own personal Hell. Arrow

Quote

5:50–6:30 p.m. Arrow Special Video Presentation and Q&A — With the future of the team left hanging in the balance, Arrow gave new definition to the phrase “blowing up the show.” The emotional showdown between Oliver Queen and Adrian Chase was the perfect conclusion to a stellar fifth season of The CW’s gritty DC Super Hero series. Now, the focus shifts to uncovering the fate of each and every member of Team Arrow. Could anyone have possibly survived an island-wide explosion, or has the book closed on them, as it has on Oliver’s five-year flashback story? Returning to San Diego Comic-Con for a sixth consecutive year, cast members Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Emily Bett Rickards, Paul Blackthorne, Katie Cassidy, Echo Kellum, Juliana Harkavy, Rick Gonzalez and producers will be on-hand for an eye-opening conversation about the upcoming season. From Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Arrow’s season six premiere moves to its new night on Thursday, October 12, at 9/8c on The CW. Actually, I believe that SA's recent instagram stories have been for Code 8 shooting...

Arrowverse heads back to work in behind-the-scenes photos, videos
CHANCELLOR AGARD JULY 5, 2017
http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/05/arrowverse-heads-back-to-work-in-behind-the-scenes-photos-videos/

Quote

This week, the cast and crews of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl returned to Vancouver to begin production on their upcoming seasons. Although no official photos from the new seasons have been released, the casts have already started sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos from their first days back on set.

The Flash‘s Keiynan Lonsdale and Candice Patton expressed their excitement about forming a sibling crime fighting unit in season 4 (“We back!” they proclaimed in one video), while Arrow director and fight coordinator James Bamford posted a photo of David Ramsey. (Hopefully this means Diggle survived the big explosion in the outstanding season 5 finale). Tuesday night, Stephen Amell also shared two short videos from the set on his Instagram story, which revealed very little except for the fact that season 6 will feature outdoor night scenes — so, the usual.

‘The Flash': Is Season 4 Taking on the ‘Rebirth’ Storyline?
BY ALLISON KEENE      JULY 5, 2017
http://collider.com/the-flash-season-4-rebirth/#images

Quote

On July 4th, the Flash‘s production office tweeted out a photo (that has since been deleted) of the premiere’s title “The Flash Reborn” plus the comments “Ready for our first day of filming Season 4! We get started tomorrow, and it’s gonna be epic!”
*  *  *
Candice Patton told TV Line that “[The Oct. 10 premiere] takes place six months in the future, and we still don’t have Barry out of the Speed Force. Iris is really struggling to deal with that, and she does it in her own way.”

This just makes all of my anger over the Season 3 finale fresh again. Barry worked for half the season to save Iris and have them be together again, and then (through some suspect logic) decides to go into the Speed Force to take up the void left by Savitar, and come what may in regards to Team Flash. It was an awkwardly shoe-horned narrative to set up the next season. My only hope is that in this six month time jump, Iris has been given an actual storyline that does not just revolve standing around waiting for Barry. Give Iris something to do, please!

EW's Superhero Insider with Kyle Anderson and Natalie Abrams, and their guest, "freelance writer" Chris Hayner - includes some Arrow discussion...

All Things The Flash with Chris Hayner
July 6, 2017

-- Kyle and Natalie reported on the results of their last week's twitter poll on "Who Is Vigilante?" WInner of this poll is the "real Adrian Chase." Natalie also mentioned that twitter only allowed 4 voting options, so they had listed Dorian Chase, Captain Pike, Real Adrian Chase, and Tommy Merlyn. (Prometheus's real name was Simon Morrison and his alias was "Adrian Chase" on Arrow.) She wondered if it would have made a difference if they had added Paul (Curtis' husband) as an voting option. They also discussed the Tommy option (Tommy coming out of the Lazarus Pit wrong). However, Natalie pointed out that Malcolm's motivation for joining the Legion of Doom last season on LoT was to bring Tommy back and to have his children love him, so the timing didn't work out for Tommy to be Vigilante last season. They noted that wanting Vigilante to be the real Adrian Chase or a twin named Dorian was just to bring Josh Segarra back on Arrow.

-- Kyle then talked about Natalie's EW article where she listed every "major" Arrow villain, with her list totalling 61 villains. [tv echo: This EW article is posted on page 232 of the Starling City Times thread.] Natalie said that she didn't include random villains. In terms of which of these villains they could bring back, she mentioned the Royal Flush Gang.  She also said that she still missed the Huntress and wished that she could come back on various Arrowverse shows (like the Bug-Eyed Bandit has done). She also mentioned Lonnie Machin/Anarky as "one of the rare good parts of Season 4 - Season 4 was a little rocky." She then talked about how she noticed, while compiling this list, how many of these villains went after Laurel ("poor Laurel") until Damian Darhk finally killed her ("single tear"). Natalie also talked about the Dodger and how she was afraid that he was going to kill off Felicity when he put that bomb collar around her neck, saying: "And I just remember thinking, 'oh dear god, I hope Arrow's not going to kill Felicity' because that was like Season 1 and she was so great, like, I - I just remember totally falling in love with that character and being like, 'please don't kill her off, they're going to kill her off, oh no, she's not a series regular yet!'... Fortunately, they did not kill her off, so that was good." After mentioning the Suicide Squad members' appearances on Arrow, Kyle said: "Bronze Tiger forever."

-- They were then joined by Chris Hayner and they talked about The Flash. Since S2, Chris has thought that Barry could be the ultimate villain of The Flash because he kept going back in time and changing things. Kyle complained about Barry being too "brooding" this past season and noted that Barry usually "gets what he wants... in spite of himself", so that's an inconsistent message. Chris: "He proposed to the woman he loved by lying to her. He knew what was going to happen. He was like, "I know how to get around this, I'll propose to her and make it seem genuine.' I love Iris, but that was such a terrible thing to do to the woman he loves." [tv echo: Oliver also proposed to the woman he loved by lying to her.] Natalie noted that the second time Barry proposed to Iris, when he was singing, Iris was surprised, saying: "Wait a minute, he already proposed to you. How are you surprised right now?" Kyle wondered if one of the Flash's powers was erasing people's memories, because it often seemed like Iris' memory was affected.

--- They talked about how Savitar had outright said that he was the Future Flash early on in the season.

-- Chris thought that Barry "has to earn redemption in the viewers' eyes" and that Barry shouldn't magically return and be the same. Even if they say that 6 months have passed, for the viewer, no time has passed. Natalie wants Barry to be missing for at least the first one or two episodes.

-- Chris would like to see a story where Wally or Cisco gets to be the "chief hero" of the city. They talked about how Wally's Flash powers differed from Barry's Flash powers.

-- They then talked about Barry as the Villain story and whether it happened too soon for the show. They also talked about Barry's repetitive behavior.

-- For S4 of The Flash, Chris wants The Thinker as the Big Bad and also wants more Killer Frost.

-- They next talked about a possible "Flash Rebirth" story next season. I lost interest in The Flash discussion at this point.

6 Things Supergirl Season 2 Got Wrong
By Abbey White and Africa Belgrave   July 3, 2017
https://blackgirlnerds.com/6-things-supergirl-season-2-got-wrong/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Quote

Mon-El, for all intents and purposes, replaced James as the male lead of the show during its second season. The change was a particularly bad look after Supergirl premiered on CBS, a network whose entire new slate of programming for the 2016-2017 season featured white male leads. James isn’t the first this has happened though, as The CW is no stranger to poor racial representation. The network has been called out before for both narrative and casting discrimination, including the treatment of characters like Raven Reyes in The 100, The Vampire Diaries Bonnie Bennett and The Secret Circle’s Melissa Glasser, traditionally all white casts with a token racial minority, as well as the removal of black-led programming following the UPN/WB merger. Which is why James’ treatment wasn’t necessarily unsurprising and yet, still infuriating.

Mon-El brought in all the cliche toxic tropes that Supergirl managed to avoid while on CBS: arguing with a girl you have a crush on, belittling her, getting her to curtail your manchild behavior, not listening to her when she has more expertise, lying about being a prince of a slaveholding nation, you know, the classics. His story arc revolved around becoming a local hero because that’s the type of man Kara would love. At no point do I believe Mon-El actually cares about Earth if Kara wasn’t tethering him to it. He is a stock CW character who dominated roughly two-thirds of season 2, that the writer’s not only broke up Kara and James to insert him, but that much became specifically about Mon-El.
*  *  *
The CW has committed itself to pushing the Arrowverse, and with Supergirl’s Monday slot they use the show to “kick-off” their crossover events. This usually results in ratings bumps because The Flash or Arrow fans tune in to a show they never watch. But what typically ends up happening is Barry and Cisco show up, tell Kara they have a problem, the episode ends and the entire audience is expected to tune in to a show they may not watch during a night they are probably doing something else. For fan not interested in The CW’s entire DC universe, their appointment with Kara & Friends is on Monday, not Tuesday or Thursday.

It doesn’t help that Supergirl’s universe is narratively not in the Arrowverse either. Marketing wise, it is, but they require science accidents to get Barry to National City. They need evil magicians to get Kara to Star City. Kara can’t just fly there when she wants. Then after it all happens, Kara just goes back to National City as if nothing really transpired. Nobody at the DEO or CatCo talks about Barry, Iris, and Cisco or how there’s a troop of time traveling heroes. If a viewer didn’t know those shows exist, how would they know if it impacted Supergirl’s universe? Furthermore, it feels like each crossover is written in a way that it’s not necessary to watch the other episodes to continue understanding what’s happening in Supergirl or to Kara. So what’s the point?

(The Entirety of) Mon-El
Sidelining James Olsen
(Poorly) Capitalizing on Fandom
Despite Having A WLW Couple, It’s Still Kinda Queerbaiting
Ineffective Crossovers
Kara’s Lack of Personal Development

I wouldn't necessarily equate the first proposals in that way. Barry's first proposal had ulterior motives that made them getting engaged/married not about them being together at all, while Oliver's first proposal, despite the secret, only had good intentions of being with Felicity, especially after Felicity was the one to bring up about how she would say yes, having both, going through times together, etc. Now Barry's second proposal had good intentions, despite a shaky pseudo-breakup never having really been resolved, of just being with Iris no matter what happens, so I'd equate Oliver's first proposal more with Barry's second proposal despite the secret Oliver still had based on intentions behind the proposal (in the end, Oliver wanted to propose to Felicity since 401, with the BMD starting at 408, so the intentions were more on-going and established for his proposal, while Barry's proposal, although admittedly semi-foreshadowed by the "Iris West-Allen" eggs, came directly from Iris dying and wanting to change that instead of reasons of love which Iris wanted). Now Oliver's throwaway second proposal ("Will you marry me?" "I think I already answered that question") I'd closer link to Barry's first proposal, because then the secret just came back into play with Malcolm knowing and it could be framed that Oliver wanted them married asap before dealing with any of those issues. Although, admitting my bias for Arrow over the Flash, I'd give Oliver a bit more leeway since it was just a throwaway line and throughout them being engaged he, or at least SA, was playing it far more as if Oliver wanted to just be married to Felicity rather than just relieved to get to a married stage despite having a secret. Even then, I'd be willing to admit I can see potential ulterior motives from Oliver there like Barry's first proposal (though Barry's were outed in the narrative while Oliver's potential ulterior motives for marrying Felicity are never acknowledged other than just wanting to be with Felicity).

15.  Iris West

14.  Ray Palmer

13.  Eddie Thawne

12.  Laurel Lance

11.  Susan Williams

10.  Savitar

9.  Taiana Venediktov

8.  The Count

7.  Non

6.  Evelyn Sharp

5.  H. R. Wells

4.  James Olsen

3.  Ra's al Ghul

2.  Vandal Savage

1.  Hawkgirl

----------------------

I agree with some of it, but there's quite a bit I don't agree with.

Hawkgirl wasn't great, but not, in my opinion, bad enough to earn #1.   Vandal should be #1, and I'd maybe put Hawkgirl down in Iris's place.

And if we're going to put Hawkgirl on the list, then Hawkman should certainly be on there because he was wayyyyy worse.

I like Ray, on Legends, so I would replace him with Nate.

I think James is too high.  There's issues with the character to be sure, but not bad enough for #4.

I also liked The Count, personally.  Much better than the other guy in season three.

And I don't agree that Laurel "had finally become a character that deserved the iconic title of Black Canary."  Nope.  Not ever.

In fairness, while I like Iris, I don't really think they're off the mark in what they say about her.

Quote

Throughout The Flash's three seasons, Iris has not been without her moments. Most of these are thanks to Candice Patton’s severely underrated acting skills. Yet the future wife of The Flash (probably) is still waiting to get promoted out of the “just a love interest” camp.

Since the very beginning of The Flash, Iris’ identity has been mostly wrapped up in her relationship to Barry. The biggest reason to care about Iris as a character is all about her romance with Barry. It’s not a great position to put any character in, but specifically not the female lead of the show. Iris has been shunted the sidelines so much that in season 3, she was basically reduced to a plot device, as Barry and the gang had to prevent her death, with Iris being able to do little to nothing to change her fate.

As The Flash heads into season 4, there might be some hope for Iris. Barry is trapped in the Speed Force, and Iris will have to discover what it means to live without Barry Allen. Perhaps in season 4, The Flash will finally get Iris back to her journalism career that’s supposed to be her passion in life … or just give her scenes that doesn’t involve picking up a mopey Barry.

Iris and Eddie should not be on that list. ?

Susan should be at least top ten if not top five unless their intention was to ruin Oliver's character then she succeeded.

So what are people's thoughts on Spider-Man:Homecoming?

To be honest, I've kind of gone off the MCU since watching Ultron.   It wasn't an actual choice to stop watching.  I just haven't had a lot of enthusiasm for seeing any of the movies since then (I actually saw Ant-Man before Ultron, even though it came out afterwards). I haven't seen Civil War or Doctor Strange, even though they're available on Netflix and I keep meaning to get around to it.

I also really liked Andrew Garfield's and Emma Stone's Peter and Gwen, so I imagine that's also figuring into my reluctance for another new Spider-Man.

But what are everyone else's thoughts?

Edited by Starfish35

Haven't seen it yet but, I've heard nothing but good things about it. Apparently MCU has addressed the Villain issue with both GOTG2 and Spider-man (Michael Keaton as Vulture)

I only saw the first Amazing Spider-Man and wasn't all that keen on Garfield although I loved Gwen Stacy. I did love Rami's Spider-Man movies and, I've heard this movie is as good as Spider-Man 2 which was my favorite Spider-Man movie to date.

I've enjoyed every MCU movie that I've seen (haven't watched Thor 2 yet and I'm iffy on Thor Ragnorok). However, I loved GOTG2 and Civil War and thought Doctor Strange was good but, I didn't see it until it got to Vudu.

Lois Lane isn’t usually known for fighting crime in a mask, but audiences got to see just that in Season eight of Smallville. During the 19th episode of the same name, Lois started wearing a mask to fight petty crime after she fought off some muggers who attacked her friend Chloe Sullivan. Since her weapon of choice was the stiletto heels in her hand, Lois started using the name.

It doesn’t last long, and the fighting is only part of it. Her costume is a shiny, squeaky mess of pleather with an over-dramatic cape and impractical heels. Lois might have been staying on brand, but it makes fighting increasingly difficult as the night wears on, even to the point where Lois makes a joke about it in the episode itself. In the end, the costume looks about as cheap and impractical as a look for one episode is usually meant to be.

I approve of them mocking the costume for Lois but they left off important details, like the fact that she was only dressed up as a vigilante because she tried to spin her one-off attack on a mugger as the emergence of a new superhero because she wanted a front page news story so she lied and faked the whole freaking thing, going so far as to make a costume, dress up and get Jimmy (who at the time was a drug addict skimming from drug lords which almost in that episode got Chloe killed) to take pictures of her.   Awful, awful character with an awful, awful actress.

Just saw Dr. Strange last weekend and I was shocked how much I enjoyed it.  So trippy and Benedict Cumberbatch is extremely enjoyable to watch.

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never wanted to see this "actress" perform on my screen again.  Please oh please oh please let it be just a super short one off thing.  Kind of like what Terri Hatcher did on Smallville when she played Lois Lane's mom.  Even that is too much for me to process.  Good grief, going from Laura Benanti to Erica Durance is so humiliating

Edited because I was too in denial to read the part about it being a "recurring" role earlier.  I don't know if I can handle it.  I LOVED Kara's emotional connection to her parents and this is going to ruin it for me.

So what are people's thoughts on Spider-Man:Homecoming?

I saw it last night. I was one who rolled their eyes when they said they were rebooting this franchise with yet another Peter Parker, but Tom Holland won me over in Civil War. I loved it for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the realistic depiction of the diversity a Queens' high school would have. The characters, story, action, and villains were all a lot of fun.

I was a fan of the first two with Tobey, and I liked Andrew Garfield's portrayal, too, even if I wasn't a huge fan of the Spidey movies he was in, but I think Tom Holland might just be my fave.

I loved Erica as Lois and am happy to see her come back in some kind of role (I love me this kind of "legacy" stunt casting). Though it is weird to recast Allura after 2 years and the actress having such a huge role in the show during S1. I would've preferred her be Lucy Lane or some other Super character. But if they have actual plans for the character, not letting that get in their way is somewhat fine. I still think they should've recast Wildcat after the actor became unavaiable and Huntress to a certain extent.

And did they take like 2 photos of that suit (Arrow)? this is why you take different poses, especially front facing ones instead of being lazy and just using the initial promo art.

They've already had Lucy on the show though.

But yeah, I don't think they would have bothered recasting if she was just going to show up for two seconds as a hologram.

Yeah but Jenna aint coming back anytime soon so might as well recast her.

But why bring the character back at all?  I mean, I can see why they might want to bring Alura back even if they can't get Laura, but I don't see why Lucy would be needed bad enough to recast.

Depends on if they had any stories they wanted to tell with her. Especially now that James aint endgame with Kara anymore, get him back with Lucy. Maybe adapt her Superwoman arc (good or evil)

They don't care enough about James to bring Lucy Lane back for him.  They don't need Helena Bertinelli now that Felicity is Oliver's OTP and they have Black Siren to take the villain role.

The only reason I can think of to bother recasting Alura is that they've got an plan for her that the needed an actress for.

Just got home from Spiderman.  Let me put this into context: I'm not, nor will I ever be, a Spiderman fan* but I loved the hell out of this movie.  The characters, the story, the conflicts, the humor, it all came together the way we were hoping it would when they announced Marvel would get to play.  Everyone should absolutely see it.

*Nothing against the character but I've never had any interest.

Not only that (leaving out the important details of WHY I had to suffer through such an insulting plot), but they also got the relationship between Lois and Chloe WRONG. Yes, they were friends, but more importantly, they're cousins. And not the distant kind.????

To go from Benanti to...this?!

And DITTO! to your last sentence I quoted!!! But we're not allowed to have nice things!

Holy crap. The Green Arrow is front and center! /thud...

Sure it's the  crappy costume but I'm happy about it!

While I love Arrow is front and center, what's with having all the legends on there? They are the third show in all of this. Why do they get every member on there?

I guess because it's an ensemble show and there's no real "lead" like all the others, so they shove them all in there but mostly smallish. It looks like a mash up of all the show's various posters anyway, easier to copy paste without picking out a couple of specific Legends. The other characters from the other 3 shows haven't been on the posters since Arrow S2 right? Which IIRC caused fandom wars over how close people were standing to Oliver and how big they were.

As for the recast news, can't say I'm ecstatic because I like LB and am not a fan of ED when she was LL to put it mildly, but I guess it can't be helped. I'd rather a recast than continuing to ignore Kara's family like they mostly did in S2 anyway.

As for Lucy Lane showing up again, I can't see them bothering, she was there mostly as a stall for Kara/James and now that ship is defunct and MB has 2 scenes an episode if he's lucky, she's no longer needed. If they had a story for her, I wouldn't mind but between JDT not wanting to spend a lot of time filming in Vancouver and the fact that there are other characters they could introduce/use in most stories (unless they want to do a Lois/Lucy thing) I doubt we'll see the character again. I kind of doubt if they'll even bother giving James a LI again, though he might get Wynn/Lyra type thing I guess.
