The 54-year-old daytime talk show host is staying overnight at a private facility run by the Pure Recovery Network in Long Island City, New York.

And in a bombshell discovery, DailyMailTV has learned the star plunged into an alcohol- and pill-fueled depression after fracturing her shoulder during a confrontation with her cheating husband Kevin Hunter, 47.

Hours after DailyMailTV contacted Williams seeking a comment for this story, she broke down in tears on her show on Tuesday morning, admitting that she had been living at the sober home and is attending meetings around New York City. 

The revelation flies in the face of Williams' public claim her extended break from The Wendy Williams Show was for 'medical reasons'.

She later clarified that she was grappling with complications surrounding her Graves' disease, which effects the thyroid, and a fractured shoulder.

But it's now believed Williams' personal problems run much deeper.

Over the past two weeks since returning to the show from a hiatus, DailyMailTV has observed Williams being picked up from the facility every morning by a driver at 7am (pictured on Wednesday, March 13) and taken to her Manhattan studio to film 

It's understood Wendy stays overnight at the sober living home in Long Island City, Queens (pictured) rather than returning to her plush mansion in New Jersey

Over the past two weeks since returning to the show, DailyMailTV has observed Williams being picked up from the facility every morning by a driver at 7am and taken to the Manhattan studio.

Once her show is finished in the early afternoon her husband collects her, usually in a brand new green Rolls Royce SUV, and takes her back to the halfway house.

'There are some shady characters coming and going from that place, it's on a residential street above a barbershop,' one observer told DailyMail.com. 

'You see recovering drug addicts standing outside having a smoke, it looks like four or five people are staying there at any one time.

'It's certainly the last place you'd expect to see Wendy Williams.' 

DailyMailTV has learned Wendy's troubles began last December when the star hired a private investigator to spy on her husband who she suspected was still carrying on with his mistress Sharina Hudson.

DailyMailTV learned the saga all started in December last year when the star hired a private investigator to spy on Hunter, who she suspected was still carrying on with his mistress Sharina Hudson. During the heated clash, it's believed Williams fell and hit her shoulder on the ground, suffering a hairline fracture.

Devastated, Williams quickly plunged into a depression while recovering from the injury and began drinking heavily.

During the time away from hosting her show, Williams' drinking - coupled with powerful pain medication -  proved a potent cocktail.

Williams, who has a history of drug addiction, became hooked.

'Kevin and Wendy are still together but things have been extremely difficult between them,' a source told DailyMailTV.

'Wendy hired a private eye last year to watch her husband because she was suspicious Kevin was still seeing Sharina.

'Her suspicions were well founded and Wendy was furious.' 

The source continued: 'She confronted Kevin and during the row she fell to the ground and broke her shoulder.

'Kevin called the show and said she walked into a wall and he had to take her to ER.

'But after the shoulder injury Wendy started drinking and popping pills again.' 

'Kevin and Wendy are still together but things have been extremely difficult between them, 'a source told DailyMailTV. The source says show execs were expecting Williams to return to work on January 7 but were told by her husband she wasn't ready to come back.

Her return date was then moved to January 14. 

The show then announced that the mother-of-one would be taking a further week off from her hosting duties, setting her return date as January 21.

But in a statement Williams announced an indefinite hiatus from The Wendy Williams Show, citing complications related to her Graves' disease and her fractured shoulder.

In a statement posted to Instagram titled: 'A Note from The Hunter Family,' it stated the star would be spending time in the hospital.

'As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend. Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves' Disease that will require treatment,' the statement posted online on January 18 read. 

In reality Williams flew to Florida where she checked into a detox and rehab facility, DailyMailTV can reveal. 

'Kevin sent her to a high end rehab facility in Delray Beach, Florida, right on the beach,' the source said. 

After Wendy learned the affair between Hunter and Hudson was still going on, she confronted him. Williams was observed being driven from the show's studio in Manhattan and being dropped off at the door of the apartment. It's understood she stays overnight rather than returning to her mansion in New Jersey. Pictured: A white Mercedes taking Williams to the sober home 

They continued: 'But she was still drinking in the rehab. She was getting people to sneak her things in.

'She was photographed with a woman outside a CVS in Florida, it was the mother of another patient in rehab who she'd met. 

'Wendy had her to take her to CVS drug store, where wine and beer are also sold.' 

Shockingly, the source reveals that Williams' husband visited his wife at the rehab facility in Florida and took his mistress along for the trip. 

'Kevin flew to Florida to visit his wife and took Sharina with him,' the source said. 'She stayed at the hotel while he went to see Wendy during the day.

'Around February 19, Wendy came back to New York. She went into a sober living facility in Long Island City and now she's sleeping at a recovery residence there and has a sober coach with her at all times, they even go to the bathroom with her.

'Kevin told the show the stress from work exacerbated her medical conditions.

'He fed them the same bulls**t she said on TV when she came back, that her Graves' disease was making her sick. Her Graves' disease has never been an issue at all.'

DailyMailTV cameras caught the star coming and going from the 'recovery residence', which is situated above a barbershop in an unassuming red brick building in Long Island City.

Staff at Otis & Finn Barbershop described the apartments above as a 'halfway house' for people addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Williams was observed being driven from the show's studio in Manhattan and being dropped off at the door of the apartment. 

It's understood she stays overnight rather than returning to her plush mansion in New Jersey.

Williams and Hunter share a huge five bedroom $2 million house in the exclusive private Bel Air estate in Livingstone, New Jersey.

DailyMailTV reached out to Williams' rep for comment but none was provided.

1-I think Wendy came forward only because she knew the Daily Mail article was coming out. 

2-She has been self medicating long before December. She was barely able to stand on the shows set for weeks. 

3-She seems better now. But staying with Big Kev is going to be a huge challenge for her.

I wouldn’t wish addiction on anyone.  Take care, Wendy.  Even if it means letting go of the show.  Your health and well being should be your first priority.  I hope you receive all the support you need now that you’ve been honest about your struggles and find strength, peace and sobriety in the future.

So many questions....   

So, was the 2 month stint away from the show really for the Graves disease or was it her getting treatment for some addiction?   Did she use her illness as a cover for her drug issues?  Was she messed up on drugs back in December or being affected by thyroid/Graves?  

She says only her husband and son knew - that seems unbelievable.  That doesn't seem like a situation that you can cover up.  At least, I think the show producers would have to be informed of what their "star" is doing.  Unless she decided to keep it a secret lest they decide to fire her.  Though, it's interesting that she did it now - did she spring it on the show runners today live on the air?  I would have done in on Friday's show, so I would have the weekend for the fallout to die down.  It's kind of sad but brave at the same time - Wendy is going to have the eyes of the world on her, to try to spot any druggish ways.

ADDED:  How hypocritical do you have to be to do a story about Mama June's antics down in Alabama with her BF and some crack, while you're leaving your show every day to go to a sober house?   Do you cringe on the inside?   Also, doesn't Wendy have the money to go to a ritzy rehab instead of a Queens sober house with a bunch of "smelly men" (her words)?

Wendy was talking about Pam Anderson and her younger BF and spoke about why some women stay with certain men/choose who to be in relationships with.  Wendy said "because I don't want to die alone".  That was so sad to me.  That shows another reason I think why Wendy stays with her husband. 

One day she will say that a woman needs to be strong, be smart/get an education, be able to stand on her own two feet, but then another day she says a woman must be "soft and pink", keep up her looks, dress sexy all for the man in her life.  Too many conflicting ideas going on. But that line about dying alone... that was heavy.

Haven't watched the show today but read the article posted above.  I'll try to tame my snark.

I do feel bad for anyone who feels their life is so out of control they pop pills and dive into alcohol to cope.  It always seems to be the people who overtly and obnoxiously claim they have great lives are the ones who have it the worst.Overcompensation.

I read the above article and it had a lot of interesting information.  Stuff that we, here, have been mentioning for months.  Right now, she is only claiming that she's got drug issues and is living in sober house, right?  I mean she hasn't confirmed how her shoulder was broken or anything?

It's nice that she is finally coming somewhat clean.  I'd have had a lot more respect (eta...hmmm, the only reason she is coming clean is because a story was coming out about it, forget my "respect", I take it back.  Sorry, not sorry) if she had not lied to us at all.  Did she think that no one would find out her husband was dropping her off at a sober house everyday after work?  People were bound to snoop after her hiatus and lack of explanation.

That's my one question now, why a sober house?  Why not hire a sober living coach to be with her 24/7 in her own home?  She's got the money to hire her own "Watson".  She can't enjoy living in a sober house apartment building with who knows who and worrying about "the Killer".  I feel bad for her.  I wonder if this is some sort of punishment for her?

Anyway, nice to finally get some truth.  I hope it is some kind of a weight off her shoulders and she can heal up.  Maybe she'll dump her troubles (Big Kev) when she gets some real clarity.

She is already alone.  Wendy has always had an unhealthy relationship with Kevin. He cheated on Wendy when she was pregnant with their son and had to be on bed rest to keep him alive. She had lost 2 daughters when she miscarried at 5 months. So it was imperative that Wendy avoided stress and her POS husband decided to cheat.. Wendy knew who Kevin was and this is just coming back to haunt her in a big way..

I was thinking the exact same thought about how she handled the Mama June news on her show yesterday. Even before I was able to read this information. I don’t get to see the show on until 3pm EST. She had drug...whatever problems in her past. I began to surmise that she was one of those holier than thou recovered addicts that are harsh and judgmental on people with issues or are beginning a recovery from said issues. 

With these new revelations (thank you @druzy), I’m going to join @Destiny74 with trying to tame my snark. I do wish her well and prefer her on point rather than a scrambled mess.

Y'all... WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!

After seeing you guy's posts, I thought Wendy was gonna come clean. Then she starts yapping about Mama June's pills and how Mana June needs to ditch her seedy man (pot meet kettle), but then for Pam Anderson she says "girlfriends are good... until you get a boyfriend" (Jesus God). Wendy is that girl who can't be without a man. No kidding. 

Anyway, I am like, WHERE IS THE CONFESSION?! She spent like two minutes on it at the end of the show! AND as she started out talking about it, she was just talking about the Hunter Foundation and how she wanted to get more information cuz she had never been to rehab. She was kind of trying to suggest that her going to meetings and stuff was a way of  doing some kind of research for the Hunter Houndation. Then half way through that sentence she turned it and said she was staying at a sober living place and had a sober coach. THE END. 

Did she not know about the Daily Mail story at the top of the show? Or did she not have details about the story and was still going to try to spin it? It was really weird.

Same here.. I have always heard that addicts may trade one addiction for another.  So, it does not surprise me that Wendy has relapsed, abused pills and alcohol, instead of cocaine.. She needs to get rid of the pig she married.  He will always be her stressor, therefore, she will fall back into addiction whenever he takes up with a mistress.

Yeah, one of her biggest problems is her husband.  You cant get yourself right when you're obsessed with your cheating husband.  He's scum! He obviously doesn't care about her. He's using her like always.

She has to admit to having an addiction own it. Obviously she doesn't owe us anything but her bullshit explanation of  living at the sober house to see others struggles, looks at least to me like she's still trying to not look like she has a problem.  Letting go and humbling yourself will only help with recovery.  At least she got to plug her foundation that she,  Kevin and Kevin founded for the people🙄

The show then announced that the mother-of-one would be taking a further week off from her hosting duties, setting her return date as January 21.

But in a statement Williams announced an indefinite hiatus from The Wendy Williams Show, citing complications related to her Graves' disease and her fractured shoulder.

In a statement posted to Instagram titled: 'A Note from The Hunter Family,' it stated the star would be spending time in the hospital.

'As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend. Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves' Disease that will require treatment,' the statement posted online on January 18 read. 

In reality Williams flew to Florida where she checked into a detox and rehab facility, DailyMailTV can reveal. 

'Kevin sent her to a high end rehab facility in Delray Beach, Florida, right on the beach,' the source said. 

After Wendy learned the affair between Hunter and Hudson was still going on, she confronted him. It's believed during the heated exchange, she fell and hit her shoulder on the ground, suffering a hairline fracture. Williams plunged into a depression while recovering from the injury and began hitting the bottle and pairing it with her pain medication. Shockingly, the source reveals that Williams' husband visited his wife at the rehab facility in Florida and took his mistress along for the trip. 

'Kevin flew to Florida to visit his wife and took Sharina with him,' the source said. 'She stayed at the hotel while he went to see Wendy during the day.

'Around February 19, Wendy came back to New York. She went into a sober living facility in Long Island City and now she's sleeping at a recovery residence there and has a sober coach with her at all times, they even go to the bathroom with her.

'Kevin told the show the stress from work exacerbated her medical conditions.

'He fed them the same bulls**t she said on TV when she came back, that her Graves' disease was making her sick. Her Graves' disease has never been an issue at all.'

The revelation of Wendy's addiction flies in the face of her claim her extended break from her show was for 'medical reasons'. She later clarified that she was grappling with complications surrounding her Graves' disease, which effects the thyroid, and a fractured shoulder 

A source claims that although Wendy was sent to rehab in Del Rey Beach, Florida, last month she was still drinking there. They said: 'She was photographed with a woman outside a CVS in Florida (pictured), it was the mother of another patient in rehab who she'd met. Wendy paid her to take her to CVS to buy alcohol and pills'

I just watched this show for the first time today while sitting in a waiting room.  This woman is odd. At the opening, she stood in front of her audience for quite some time, taking in their screams and adulation.  I don't think I've ever seen a show's host ever do that before (at least Ellen dances amongst her audience). It's also uncomfortable, IMO, to watch her speak.  Can't put my finger on what's going on with her but something is really strange about WW.

As for getting a sober coach, she's probably better off in the sober house because the only thing a sober coach really does, is keep a person away from drugs and alcohol for a certain period of time; like if a sports team wants to win the big game and doesn't want their star athlete to go on a binge.  But after the coach goes away...well if nothing changes, nothing changes.

But, I think she needs to leave that no good husband of hers and not feel obligated to stay with him.

Even the press is confused. People Magazine reports she is living in the sober house due to past addiction issues and because she heroically wants to bring us the "story" of what treatment is like. But then they refer to her as "seeking treatment" not that she just need sober support. Totally convoluted.

Ok, so half truths are coming out only because she was spotted going in to the sober house. Why is a mega rich woman staying in a sober house after being in rehab for like 60 days? Kevin should be able to stay with her at home and make sure there is no booze or drugs around her. Is that so hard? They work in the same place, it shouldn't be a stretch to be with her 24/7. That is if he cared. Which he doesn't. I don't think he is even living with her anymore. He doesn't want to deal with her.  I have an icky feeling he put her there telling her it was the best for her. 

I don't appreciate Wendy lying her ass off for months and for months before that about being happy with Kevin and all was so perfect in Hunterville.  When you have a show that you are seen on every day it's different from a celeb that shoots a  couple of movies a year and then can disappear and goes to rehab and nobody ever finds out about it.

I heard Norman's voice yesterday(?) when he corrected once Wendy during HT, and I caught a glimpse of Suzanne today, waving for the audience to stand up when they went to a break.

I was watching a YT video of someone else talking about today's revelation and she said she was in the audience last week.  She had audio of what goes on just before the show starts, how the DJ guy turns up the music and gets the co-hosts revved up for the show.  OMG, it sounded exhausting - loud music and the DJ on his mic hooting and hyping to a frenzy of "how you doing!!!".   I was wrung out from just hearing that.  Otherwise the YTuber said she had a fantastic time, but she says a lot of things are "scripted" - you could see Wendy practicing her lines before the start of the show.   She also said that the general atmosphere of the show is upbeat and fun and Wendy turns it on for the air, but she could see that when they went to break, Wendy's demeanor would change and seem very somber/sad.  With today's news, I guess we can see why.

Same opinion.  Wendy has been acting like she had dementia for 18 months to two years.  Drugs and alcohol were slowly getting worst.  "Fainting"?  No.

Of course, he has all of the secrets!  Blackmail!  Big time.   And I believe he would share everything she trusted him with as a spouse.  He seems to be a sociopath or psychopath.  Many things she would not want to get out and I believe he would tell it all to punish her for leaving. Look what she has been putting up with throughout the marriage.  And Wendy is, and has been brainwashed since meeting him.  And she loves him.  Thus, the mixed up ideas and sympathy toward R. How did she keep all the weight off?  Maybe drugs at first.  Then she started drinking more heavily?  Now she is back to food as a cross addiction most likely. I just saw the segment on the DVR.  Oh yes,  not even chewing.  I found it funny but sad.  On TV your not supposed to eat, eat.  Just taste and eat later.  I'm glad I hadn't deleted the episode until after I came here cause I never watch the whole episode.

I think the sober house is a great idea because she will never be able to become real about her situation living alone in her house with the sober coach.  She needs to see and hear others being honest. She wasn't honest about why she is living in a sober house.

She is doing research, right?  She claims to be checking on the brothers and sisters.  Like for her foundation. 

Maybe it was to be undercover in recovery.  It was probably pretty easy to hide in plain sight as no one in the house would think she was Wendy Williams.  Especially wearing her ratty "home" wigs w/o makeup.  She would have been easily spotted in luxury digs.  But she got caught anyway.

I'm used to her nibbling on the various dishes but she was straight-up GRUBBING on everything out there---shoving whole shrimp into her mouth, two-fisting the kabobs, great big bites of sandwich---it was genuinely bizarre.  I guess the food at the sober house is way lacking.

I want to see the photos that the Daily Mail got of her entering and leaving the sober house. 

Even if she purges herself of Big Kev, he is still her manager so will continue to collect a portion of her earnings. He’s also a producer on the show which is a separate check. She’s been the breadwinner in that family for years. I don’t see her as wanting to stop now with all the bills for school and living expenses for Little Kev. Plus there is that mistress to support. Yesterday, Inside Edition showed the inside of the sober house. It is pretty shabby. Like, there was a tiny kitchenette, one couch with a TV in front of it, and the "bedrooms" have half of their front wall missing and no door. I'm guessing this is so addicts can't sneak drugs or drink. I am shocked she's in there. Maybe she went to a luxury rehab that caters to celebrities but she sneaked stuff so now she is in the down and dirty sober living.

I also agree that maybe she thought she could "hide" if she went to a place no one would suspect in a location no one thought she would choose.

 I do not think it is somewhere you would pick if you just needed sober support cuz your cravings were getting away from you, or, um, because you wanted to do research about treatment. I will give her credit for doing whatever it take to get clean.

The whole story is just strange to me.  Again, I think she just needs to be done with the show and Kevin.  It’s good she’s addressing the addiction, but I think it’s a symptom of the other, bigger elephants in the room that she needs to address off camera.  I think she came out, albeit partially, to get ahead of the story.  When they broke the story about the mistress, that could be explained away and denied because she wasn’t being shown as the subject.

If she continues to do the show, there will still be a credibility issue for me even though I’ve stopped watching.  It’s hard to keep it light and do cooking segments and gossip when she’s not being fully open. I think it’s better to end the show, get help mentally, legally, etc., do a sit down interview later or write a book and open up, and then try a return once everything has been dealt with.  People love a good comeback story.  She always talks about being “regular folk,” but she’s got plenty of money to be able to step away.  I feel the worst for the show staff, but if they were able to keep the train wreck running, hopefully that will work well for them in their next gigs.

I think Wendy feels obligated to Kevin.  I think Kevin was there for her in the beginning when she started on the radio.  I don't know if she ever had to go on the road, but maybe Kevin made her feel safe at the time.  Also, black women in entertainment tend to get slammed more than black men, if they have a non black boyfriend or husband.  (just check out all the hate Serena Williams gets).

I saw a clip from the Daily Mail of Kevin taking Wendy to the sober house - no wonder they were able to get the dirt on her, she did nothing to be low-key.  She's this 5'11" woman in that giant white coat, carrying a bright yellow expensive leather handbag, shoulder length blond hair, and being accompanied by her husband and 2 bodyguards.  It would have been smart to try a disguise, ya think?

Celebrities came forward on social media to laud Williams for her honesty, saying that her revelation will help others seek the treatment they need. Other stars talked about their own experiences with addiction and thanked Williams for speaking her “truth” on national TV.

“Addiction has plagued myself and my family for my whole life and I’m just so grateful that she’s sharing her story to help combat the shame of addiction,” comedian Whitney Cummings tweeted. “This is a disease that discriminates against nobody.”

Williams’ candid admission came after her return from a two-month hiatus from taping her show. She said she had been hospitalized to treat symptoms of her Graves’ disease, though there had been rumors she was dealing with her husband’s alleged infidelity. During her revelation on air Tuesday, she didn’t officially say she had relapsed.
