S02.E10: Lost and Found

Recommended Posts

At the beginning of every year, Cloud 9 employees hold a "lost and found bin cleanout" to get rid of all the unclaimed items. Amy unknowingly walks away with a huge wad of cash and Jonah is determined to help her find the best use for it. Meanwhile, Cheyenne proves she is never one to keep a secret and Dina pushes Garrett over the edge.

I liked the episode.  Why did he leave his pants behind anyway? I would have suspected a drug deal particularly considering the contents of the pants. Since it was actually a stand-up guy with money for the trip, how would you not realize that 902 dollars was gone? That was seven months ago!

I'm thinking the strain in Amy's marriage will end with her getting with Jonah at some point.

I liked the whole Garret and Dina subplot too. It's a good show, but I'm enjoying "The Good Place" a bit more.

I know (from reading the "My Life in Retail" thread!) that finding a pair of pants in the Lost and Found wouldn't be that much of a stretch for a superstore, but yeah, he seemed like the kind of guy who would know WHERE he lost a pair of pants!

The only thing I can think of is that he was trying on new slacks and wore them out of the store, leaving his old ones in the changing room. But surely when he noticed the $900 missing he remembered where he left it. I really thought it was going to turn out he was scamming them or that it was really drug money.

Right, it was his pants. That much is clear, but as the great comedienne Kathleen Madigan said St. Louis and Missouri in general are known for a high concentration of meth labs and other assorted drugs. I still don't buy his story. If it really was money for a trip for troubled kids, he would have come back for it.

Does anybody know how long a store like Wal-Mart is required to keep items in the lost and found?

Not my favorite episode of the season, it was a little mediocre to me, but it is nice to have the show back regardless.

The pants guy's story didn't make sense if he was on the up and up. The better story imo would be that the guy was a former drug addict, lost the money and turned his life around, and he wanted to use the money for his youth group trip. Would've got the same guilt reaction from the employees.

Good ending. I'm not surprised Adam wasn't any more happy then Amy and I appreciate that neither is exactly painted as the good or bad guy.

Can't speak for what they do *now* but back in the day? We didn't have a lost and found. Most everything ended up in the trash, I guess. I was at front end, and the lost and found was a small shelf under the cash register. It wouldn't be able to hold too many things. Anything lost at front end or deemed somewhat important (ie. a necklace, stuffed animal) went there.  After a while, it was trashed, I assume. Although I think it was trashed simply to get back space.

I will say that I found an envelope of cash once while working! No joke. It had about $200, I think. I remember there being several $50s and I wondered what to do about it. I didn't feel right keeping it, but I didn't know how someone could claim it was theirs.  Eventually after some hmm'ing and haa'ing I turned it into the cash office.  I think I'd decided that if no one had claimed it I would petition for it to go to the store's children's charity. Interestingly, someone did come back for it. Or at least that's the story the cash office lady told me-- who knows?-- Apparently she asked the person how much was in there and in what denominations. Since the person correctly identified the amount, they got the envelope. But looking back it's entirely possible she just stole it for herself. But that's on her. My conscience was clean.

I worked for Walmart from 1999 to 2014. Most of those years, we had a bucket (like an 18 gallon Rubbermaid-type tote) behind the service desk and the random lost and found (mostly coats, gloves, hats and that type stuff, umbrellas, canes - OMG, the number of canes that got left behind. That one always puzzled me) just got tossed in that bucket. Wallets, credit cards, driver's licenses went to the cash office. I guess at various points, 1st shift people would go through it and toss the really ratty looking stuff, but we didn't have any official time limit that I was aware of.

It had some funny moments, but the overall plot bothered me: that Amy did something nice for Cheyenne who then told the other employees about the money. And then Amy spent the money on the break room and didn't have her massage. And then the guy came back for the money--after Sandra called him--and they had to give the money back anyway. Very sit-commy, but also sad in many ways.

And then Glenn couldn't cheer anyone up. Although he did make Amy feel better in the end.

Too many sad moments. I like the funny, funny episodes like Mannequin and the one about the Cloud 9 Spokesperson who ate people.

I did like the "Lost and Found" scene itself. When Mateo went on and on about the jacket Amy found: "Hey, who's that man?" and then when she said she'd swap with him, "if you're going to be a little bitch about it."

I thought it was funny that Sandra was taking so long picking something out and Dina yelled "Hurry up Sandra! It's not like you're going to find a man in there!" LOL!

Anyone else catch the pharmacist's comment (I can't remember the exact quote.,,) "hey, you can't fault me for taking advantage of a loophole. Makes me smart." I seem to remember Donald Trump saying something similar about his tax returns (I could be wrong..,I try to stay away from politics)  I thought maybe it was a "dig" at him. If so- very clever.

I also like the pharmacist commenting about the "super bugs"

And Sandra...so funny!

Awww poor Glenn's monkey. LOL.

Jonah and Amy have some great chemistry.

That being said, it's really an ethical question for a married woman to be flirtatious with her attractive male coworker - and for said coworker to keep being flirtatious with her. It's a tough situation.

I agree, but do you think they were flirty in this episode? They talked about Amy getting a massage, and they were together a lot, but I didn't get flirty vibes from them this time. In other episodes, sure.

I'm not criticizing because I completely understand what you're saying, but I am amused at the juxtaposition here.

Not getting free money is sadder than a cannibal serial killer :)

Did anyone else notice that Amy seemed to be logging in the claims on the "returned" goods they'd purchased for the break room at the end of the episode? I will say I was surprised at how much she got for $900. That chair alone must've been pretty expensive.

LOL. I just realized what I said.

Ironically, the kids wanted to see an episode of Superstore last night, and I showed them that one. (with Kyle).

"Half do or half don't [smoke marijuana]?"

"Both."

"Both???!!!!"

No kidding. The ones in Sharper Image and Brookstone are thousands of dollars. Maybe they get a nice employee discount.

I love that they've made Dina a player. For a while, when she had her crush on Jonah, it looked like they were going to make her into a pathetic weird bird-girl stalker, but then they did the unexpected and had her immediately get over Jonah's rejection by making a date with that other guy. And now she's got Garrett, who's usually so smooth, flummoxed over how to deal with her.
