I'm a bit disappointed by this episode, mainly because in interviews after the last season (or half-season? I'm losing track), the showrunner said one of their goals for this season was to bring back the fun and levity from season one. He specifically said that sending Mike to prison SEEMED like it was going to be a downer, but that actually things would be lightening up while they reconnected with the comedy aspect of the series.

Putting in a quote from last week's episode to say: Oh, yeah, the levity is back. ?

For the first time in a long time, I am liking the partners. Maybe it is because they are finally acting like kind, caring human beings taking responsibility for their actions instead of heartless, cutthroat bastards. Mike, on the other hand...

I still like Mike a lot better than Rachel, she's just so entitled and clueless.

Best thing about this episode was how GORGEOUS Gina Torres was, especially at the end when she wore that tan dress. Project Runway should have creating an outfit for her character as a challenge, with her as guest judge.

Several thoughts on this.

The Mike in prison story arc got old quick.

Rachel can kiss my lilly white butt. Suck it up bitch and deal with it. The ship has sailed for me with that  character and actress who plays her. 

Love the effort of Jessica, Harvey and Louis trying to hold it together.

The Donna character is starting to wear a little thin to. She needs a dose of humility.

Glad they brought back Gretchen. She's a welcome change of pace from Donna and Rachel.

This show sucks.  I don't know why I thought Mike would get a personality change when he went to prison.  He's still the same ol' self-righteous asshole he's been for the past few seasons.  Not sure why I'm still watching this, to be honest.

I was both mortified and weirdly intrigued at the same time. I'm glad that Gretchen didn't let it slide, however, I don't really see how dating a mystery recording artist black man (assuming it was a black man) somehow makes the announcement more palatable. Sheesh at being tone deaf, uh yay? at this weird and ineffectual attempt at skirting politically correct convention.

Louis hiring extras to fill the office- hee.

Jessica being a human being and helping Jack with DaddyZane- cool.

So what's the deal with Mike being in like SuperMax? The hell? When they wondered why Gallo (?) was in "Max" rather than white collar racketeering prison, I lost track of what was happening because I couldn't get past why on earth Mike would have been incarcerated in maximum security. Except... plot. 

Nice to see Neal McDonough as always.

I believe the deal he made with Anita last year was that he had to do hard time in a federal pen and not some country club white collar prison. She wasn't letting him off easy.

Danbury is known for being the prison that Martha Stewart requested she stay at. It seems to be a popular real prison to put fictional characters in. I think Nancy Botwin from Weeds was in it.

I've been saying that for the past two seasons. ;d Unlike (almost) everybody else I don't want her and Harvey to be together.

I actually like Mike a lot better than Donna. She annoys me.

In a regular soap opera, Mike would be saving the life of the governor's kid right about now so he can get out.  

Why does the show think I care about Mike in prison?  And what's worse - where can they go from here with the character?  Even if he does get a miracle parole/pardon/whatever, he can't go back to practicing law at the firm.  So while I like the story of the others trying to rebuild the firm after Mike's secret got out, Mike himself just seems like dead weight now.

Okay, instead of my previous suggestion that they turn Mike into a ghost to haunt Harvey, after finally finishing the episode, I'm guessing that Mike is going to get the murder evidence on Gallo, thus earning his "get out of jail free" card.  He's still outed though, so I don't think that changes his dead weight status.

They should just have Mike help the prisoners with appeals using his legal knowledge, no need for drama with a prisoner with a grudge against Harvey, just have someone who is angry at Mike because... I dunno, one of the pro bono cases Mike took is getting retried and the prisoner's family was a part of it.

 

Then just have the Warden push for mike to get paroled because he is such a nuisance helping all of the other prisoners that he is getting inundated with paperwork

Yeah, being a jailhouse lawyer, maybe he can help the guards with their legal issues just like the guy in Shawnshank (sorry I am blanking on the name) and that will make him really popular.  And these guards are willing to give up their cushy Club Fed gigs by letting someone get shivved on their watch?  

And how exactly did Gallo's thug-help get into Club Fed themselves?  And like..there are no cameras working in the common areas?  So Gallo, who is in prison for 15 years total, is going to tack on another 20 or life with assault or murder charges caught on tape?

I like the new roommate.

I am confused by all these clients who are now suing.  They usually won and probably were on contingent few schedules so it doesn't matter who did what come payment time.  Are they arguing over-billing?  What's the claim?

I am not sure either, unless they are suing pre-emptively because the are anticipating all their previously litigated cases being re-opened and re-litigated if the opponents are claiming something...I am not up on civil procedure stuff, but do any of their client's opponents have a leg to stand on?  I mean they settled/lost fair and square, just because their opponent was not a "real lawyer" doesn't mean they can declare a do-over right?

This show used to be fun. It's not really fun anymore.

I thought the show took a great turn when Mike left the firm to go into investment banking. He could still be a "suit" while no longer operating illegally. He could have still been the arrogant young gun, and we would have fun in the worlds of high-end law and finance as the two firms interacted. Instead, he ends up back at the firm, and all I could think of, was, what is this show going to do when the secret comes out? Well, pretty much where we are now. Mike's in prison ( and acting like he shouldn't be), the once mighty firm is now 3 lawyers, 1 paralegal, and 2 secretaries. No one trusts them, cases are potentially tainted, and on and on. Now what?

Not fun. And increasingly, not entertaining.

I was all alone in my house and completely mortified.  "No, Ginger, you're not."

And please - Donna bucks the federal prison system and gets the special snowflake in for a visit?  I'm so over her.  I actually rather enjoyed the IT guy reveal of her screwing up of the email address list last week.  BTW - I do Donna's job - except on the other coast.

I have this feeling that the scene was supposed to be prescient of some future episode where the mystery musician boyfriend plays a part in one of the story arcs.  It doesn't make a lot of sense to just throw in that piece of dialogue.
