To be clear, Joe thought when he asked Pete about capitalism, Pete would necessarily have to tapdance around "socialism" in order to pander to Bernie Bros like that twit Warren and most other Dem candidates.  (Scandinavian countries aren't socialist, fwiw.  They're capitalist, with some social programs.)

He said capitalism needs oversight and democracy.  Which is the sane Democratic reply.  As a platform it's rational, adult, and is an electable stance.

WTF how's Joe going to get past the fact that they haven't accepted Jesus?

Mayor Pete was outspoken about his faith in that segment, and is gay too, so Joe thought he'd poke around in there to see if he could make some news.  He wasn't asking Pete to pass a litmus test.  The tone of that segment is getting a little distorted here.  He was giving Pete some space to be honest and open and to drop some philosophical bombs.  Pete did incredibly well.  He'll never be President, but he needs to play a much larger role in American public life.  We need a lot more of him.

My most charitable assessment of this segment is that Joe was trying to draw contrast between the white evangelicals who support Trump and other religious people who are living much closer to the teachings of Jesus. Whether or not that was his true intent, I do think it's a comparison worth highlighting.

OMG are you trying to kill me?  The best, it was worth cleaning off my laptop screen for.

Made up for having to watch those insufferable chuckleheads giggle and shout all over whatever poor guest was on.  I haven't watched them full time in so long I had forgotten what a headache feels like first thing in the morning.  I was just waiting for Mayor Pete and was pissed that Joe took up the first five minutes of the interview with his religious blathering.  What is with him lately?  Buttigieg did a great job with that and the rest of the questions asked of him (thanks to Willie at the end) and I liked that he actually directed folks to his website to read more about his policies.  I am a big fan and hope more folks get to hear what he has to say (of course the Scarboroughs did shout at him to call in whenever he felt like it, so classy).

I will give credit where credit is due as they added on to the pile on for Nunes and his cow fiasco.  That is just the gift that keeps on giving.

Did I hear someone put Noah Rothman in his place?  Max (sorry, last name escapes me), Democrat from New York, was talking about the flammable rhetoric coming from Congress.  He feels the need to apologize on behalf of Congress for how awful they are.  He is young, bright and articulate; something hardly no one on MJ is. I digress. Noah Rothman piped in and asked a loaded question.   Max didn't bite; instead he said something on the order of "that is a biased question" and then just kept talking.  Loved it!  I don't think I have ever heard anything done so smoothly.  And.  I didn't hear anything else from Mr. Rothman; bet he was pissed.  Made my day.

Mr. Kemper was talking to me at the time, so hopefully I didn't mis-hear or get the exchange wrong.

Doucheborough is turning into Elmer Gantry more and more on every show.

Joe would kill to have Burt Lancaster's hair.

Sorry Mayor Pete. It was a good run, but I think Joe and Mika's fawning over you is going to be a kiss of death.

What's the deal with Mika playing with a scarf? Has she always done that and I just never noticed? She looks like a knitting lady.

There was a ten minute stretch when the two of them were chatting away and it was just like watching the SNL parody of the show.

The last 8 minutes of the show was a nearly perfect microcosm of the show in general.  At once hilarious and cringeworthy.  Frustrating and informative.  Joe at his best and worst.  Mika just at her worst.

The chief editor at Random House and author, Benjamin Dryer, was on to talk about his book about English usage.  Funny guy.
Mika introduces him and then immediately turns in her seat giving the expert on English usage her back, and she doesn't look at him, instead looking up into Joe's face.  Her body language suggests she's intimidated by the guest.  Super weird and uncomfortable.
Joe was obviously familiar with the material (and as he begins talking, Mika's back is still to her guest and she's making those "meep moop mumble mumble" sounds - SO weird) and talked about the idiosyncrasies of approved English usage and how it's a tough language.  And then he said that guest Meachem and guest Walter Isaacson would be intimately familiar with Dryer's topic because they are accomplished authors, and, Isaacson is a prof.  Also published on that panel but ignored, one Mika Brzezinski.  5 or 6 times an author.  Joe didn't even look at her.  Super weird and uncomfortable.
Meachem praises the book.  Dryer tells some great anecdotes.  Joe chips in.  Kicks it to Isaacson who has an interesting question on split infinitives.  I'm watching intently, eager for the answer.  BUT...
Mika interrupts in order to get involved.  Super weird and uncomfortable.
She says so excitedly, "It's just like this weekend when I helped you with your article!  The one in the Post.  I started a sentence with "But, " and it didn't make it.  Then I tried "However," and it didn't make it. hurr hurr."  This broke the uncomfortability scale.  Yeesh.
Dyer just ignored her and tried to answer Isaacson before time ran out.

Wow, they let Mayor Pete talk for about 40 minutes.  Just questions and almost no interruptions.  Very impressive.  They should have him on everyday.  You could tell Barnicle loved him

I think that was the day when at 7:48 AM Barnicle proclaimed, "Ok, getting back to Jesus"  When has THAT ever been heard on MJ?

And.  I didn't hear anything else from Mr. Rothman; bet he was pissed

How would one tell that Noah Rothman was pissed?  How can a human being even look any more pissed than he would on a nice sunny day, with free 100 dollar bills falling from the heavens.

What did she do that the floor director was yelling at her ?  They showed a woman standing by the camera to Mika's right and Mika was giggling about "it's like I'm an intern".

No, it's like you're an idiot and all of a sudden can't seem to handle doing YOUR JOB!

She walked behind Matt Miller while he was talking and the camera was rolling. She waved. I thought she was going to the bathroom but no seconds later she was back at her spot.

Friday Recap. Mika & Joe are back in Florida. Jimmy carter is the first topic. He is the oldest living President. Joe blamed the Democrats in Congress for over reaching & cost Carter the election in 1980.

Joe said that Carter brought peace to the Middle East.

Joe is mad at Boeing for net selling safety features with the Max 737 planes. It's an extra.

Joe is mad at Trump for supporting Israel staying in the Golan Heights.

Richard Haas said this will cause instability in the Middle East.

Mika is excited about the Mueller report being released soon.

A full week of accept Jebus as your lord and savior.  We get it Joe.  You church it up.
A sweet dig at Obama for saying "We are our future" or something referring to it as blasphemy.  Then saying how Dems calling him "Black Jesus" was blasphemy.
Then he blames the invasion of Iraq on Democrats.

So much bullshit down in their bunker today it must smell like a stable.  Thematically appropriate for Joe's evangelical soul, presumably.

Joe is talking about Top Gun to Willie.

How did I miss this? It's in the second hour and may not appear in the third hour highlight reel, dang it. I guess I was busy downloading a sample of and reading reviews of Mazarr's Leap of Faith: Hubris, Negligence, and America's Greatest Foreign Policy Tragedy. Between listening to Mazarr and the woman who was promoting The Last Column project,  some of today's show was like the good old days.

The veneration of Zbig B - referred to by Joe as “your Dad, Mika - continues. I tuned in just as they started discussing the Iraq War anniversary. Did you know Zbig was against it? Joe must have said that three or four times. Somehow, that ear was Dems fault. Now, watching discussion of the Mid East, Dr. B has been mentioned three more times. I liked Dr. B as a guest, especially his Joe takedowns, but come on with this version of Morning Joe nepotism.

It started around 6 32 am. Joe was rating about Bob Hope, Rick Davis, Irving R Levine. Mika started squealing. Mika said she watched the Godfather movie.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _

Got it. It happened during the first hour but you wrote about it during the second hour. Keep up, suomi! I did catch The Godfather reference but missed a stunned Meacham. When they were taking movie suggestions on twitter awhile back to get TLR up to speed with pop culture, I recommended Godfather I and II. Very glad to know they're listening to me ...
