It's giving - 'Snow White & the Huntsman' vibes, with 'rally the troops and take the kingdom back'.

Did they delete the prince from the story? Yeah, there's a love interest there, who I assume gives the 'true love's kiss', but is he supposed to be the Prince?

I do like the little bit of the new song for Zegler that they played.

I could nitpick, but overall Snow White and the evil Queen look fine; the problem is that they want to match the costumes to the look from the animated version, and I don't think what looked fine in 2D 80+ years ago looks good on an actual human now.

Sorry, not sold on Gadot as the Evil Queen; especially compared to the several better live action versions that have come before her.

Not really sold on the CGI dwarves either; but I don't think there was any perfect solution, no matter which way Disney went with them.

Probably too late now, but IMHO, if Disney wants this to do well they need(ed) to (make) market this for the kids and family market; not the nostalgia market.

I don't like the velvety top portion with the frilly, tulle-like skirt. It makes no sense. It looks like a lesser Etsy creation. I'm sure people had complaints about OG Snow White's pumps, but how are those goofy ballet slippers any better? 

I feel so vindicated that moderngurlz also doesn't like Rachel Zegler's SW hair.

Given the casting of Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in that movie, it also raises the same question: Is Snow White really fairer than the Evil Queen? (Of course, the Huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, was arguably just as fair.)

If we're talking about beauty both inside and outside, then 'yes.' But if we're talking purely surface beauty, then 'no.' But ymmv.

Michael Gracey In Negotiations To Direct Live-Action ‘Tangled’ For Disney

Kristin Burr will produce for Burr! Productions along with Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club). No word yet on casting.

 

I figure the hardest thing to translate from the animated film is Max the horse. And they could probably just have Donna Murphy be Gothel again, but they'd probably cast someone younger and then age them.

I'm sorry, but I HATE Rachel Zegler's hair in this. That horrible semi-Dutch bob parted in the middle is sooooooo unflattering. Say what you want about animated Snow White, but her hair was ON POINT: the soft, 1930s waves with the cute hair bow can't be improved upon. 

Exactly. I have had a haircut like that, there is no problem with it, but it doesn't go well with the rest of her look or the general look of the movie.

Although, the general look of the movie is kind of crap, IMO. Looks like AI or just too much CGI. I want to support Gal Gadot for other reasons, but this movie is not for me.

So after all these years, I finally found a script draft of what the original Howard Ashman Aladdin draft was. And wow.

I already knew about cut characters like the mom, Aladdin’s buddies, and that early Jasmine was a spoiled brat…but I had no idea that that Aladdin winds up with another girl, a fellow street kid/best friend Abbi. Mind blown!

Part of me can’t help wondering if Abbi wound up being reincarnated as Sadira in the TV series, what with her Nice Girl tendencies and all.

I had the same thought and that's even after seeing the trailer on my cell that's a galaxy 24.

They were pretty tone-deaf regarding the original film which has millions of fans who are neither MAGA or anti-woke and who were pissed of.  The furor had died down and instead of leaving it that way she decided to make new comments.  It seems very unsavvy of her, imo.

I agree that nobody should sell out to anybody else.  She believed whole-heartedly everything she said and she said it, so good for her. But, it was bound to not be a great sell to bad mouth the original movie when trying to promote a remake of it.  She called the original weird, dated, the hero a stalker, basically called Snow White wrong for wanting true love.  I mean, theoretically, this remake's intended audience is fans of the original.

Just saw a commercial for the live-action Snow White last night, and omg does it look terrible!  The CGI was like something a teenager did on his home computer.  And I'm having the same problem with Rachel Zeigler and Gal Gadot that I had with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman.  One of these things is very much fairer than the other, and it isn't Snow White.

Couldn’t have said it better. It reminds me of Rita Hayworth vs Kim Novak in 1957’s Pal Joey. Novak may have been the hot, young “It Girl” of the moment…. But she was no Rita Hayworth. Hell, Hayworth would be over 100 if she were alive today, and she’d still have it over most of the current ingenues!

Isn't how they look a result of Dinklage's comments? I haven't been following the news around this film, but I vaguely recall there was a redesign after he criticized how the dwarves were being used in the film?

He said that a Snow White remake wasn’t necessary. He said he didn’t think little people should be limited to playing dwarves/mythical creatures. He also said that the Snow White dwarves were one-dimensional characters, and if Disney really wanted to make it different instead of a shot-by-shot remake, they give the dwarves more character depth. 

Do not blame Peter for the crappy CGI. That’s on them.

A coworker at the time, when the movie was being made, told me that she can't take it seriously because Gal Gadot is definitely the better looking one. I thought about it and told her that that was the case as well with the Julia Roberts movie (I have a bit of a crush on Kristen Stewart, so I am biased on that one). But that is IMO a part of the point. The mirror, as far as I remember, said that the Queen is the fairest of them all, but there is one who will succeed her soon. I think that if they wanted to make a more modern movie, this is what they could have used: the idea that a woman is scared of getting old and that her beauty will no longer be admired once a younger woman comes is something that is still very prevalent, especially in Hollywood. They cast women in their late 30's, or 40's as the "old one", even though we can all see that they are still hot and beautiful and many even prefer that look, but the cult of youth is so strong that we are supposed to be wowed by the younger actresses just because they're young. The Queen in Snow White is the embodiment of all that is wrong with this attitude, she knows she is still attractive, but turns on another woman just because of her fear that she will be considered more attractive than her in a short time.

If the filmmakers had balls to take on all of that, they could have made a good movie that would indeed be a fresh and feministic take on Snow White.

I agree. I don't really care about the races or political views of the actors involved. Seeing the trailer turned me off; it doesn't look like what I would expect from Disney in terms of quality. It look likes bad generative AI.

Snow White was my favorite movie as a child. I even told my Sunday school teacher my real name was Snow White and that my family just called me Lisa. I still cry every time I watch the original movie. This movie will always have a very special place in my heart.

My issue with Ms. Zegler is why did you tame the role of Snow White if you have so much contempt for the character? She has alienated so many people.

And yes I agree the dwarves are just awful.

The music in Moana 2 is horrible.  They should have waited for Lin to be free to write the songs.  The very BEST part of Moana is the songs.  I’m a grown adult and I listen to them in the car.  And I tear up!
