I think Moleman getting hit by the pizza truck was also a reference, but I forget the episode.  I think it was that one with the insurance agent in the world where a machine can read peoples' memories.

That was from the 'Crocodile' episode in Black Mirror Season 4.

The automated Pizza Delivery truck that runs over Hams Moleman -- also from 'Crocodile'.

When all the friends and neighbors are in the Simpson living room prior to the Thanksgiving meal, on the TV you can Mayor Quimby with his pants around his ankles on a stage with Spiderpig -- a reference to 'National Anthem' episode of Black Mirror.

In the same scene, the painting above the couch is the USS Callister.

I'm glad they included the toaster in the kitchen that the A.I. used to make toast, a major plot reference in the 'White Christmas' episode (in fact the main A.I. based on a real person plot is from 'White Christmas').

Season 31-Episode 9:

Quote

Todd, Todd, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?

In this Flanders family-focused episode, Todd blames God for the death of his mother and rejects his faith – causing great distress for Ned, who sends him to live with the Simpsons in an attempt to scare him back into God's arms.

Title: The Flanderseseseses - Now Owned By Disney

Blackboard: Idle Hands Are Devil's Tools

Couch Gag: No couch, Flanders gave it to the poor.

Man, it's been a long, long, long time since the show explored how the Flanders have handled life without Maude. Seriously, it barely comes up. And even less with Edna, since Marcia Wallace just HAD to die not too far into that storyline.

I got a laugh out of Lisa giving Todd a thumbs up when he renounced God, and then trying to sell Buddhism to him. I liked the tag of Lisa getting chewed out by Buddha.

Yeah, loved the Jebus toast. I also liked Homer and Ned in their personal heavens, but I felt like it was too rushed. I did appreciate that their stay was only temporary, a la Homer the Heretic (which was a much better episode).

Wasn't a fan of the show retelling how Homer's mom left. I was expecting Homer to relive Mona's death, not completely change the context of one of the most emotional moments in the series. Although I did like him finally saying goodbye to her in Heaven, even if that was how he was brought back to life made no sense to me.

Ok once you get past Todd questioning God and his faith over the death of his mom should have been done like 20 seasons ago. this wasn't a horrible episode.  I always did like the gag that Ned was basically stalking Reverend Lovejoy.  I also liked the Lisa trying to convert Tod and the end credits with her not getting into Nirvana because Nirvana is for closers.  But maybe with Ralph she has a shot.   But of course Marge is the only one who gives Tod even the semblance of good advice that it may not actually matter who he prays to the praying is the important thing.

Poor little guy! Felt so bad for Todd! Flanders seemed needlessly cruel disowning Todd and throwing him out of the house. That’s very much out of character for him. I’m glad they did this, even though, like others have mentioned, it feels a bit past time for them to be exploring the new effects of losing Maude when it happened 20 seasons ago.

Ned at the checkout counter buying Bland-o-Lakes butter, White Bread for the Soul, Devout People Magazine, and Mild Rice.  And the magazines at the checkout -- JesUs magazine, Goys' Life, Steeple magazine, The Pew Yorker, and Tithe magazine

Items spotted in Flanders' garage:
-- blueprints for an ark
-- sign on a hook indicating 'Broken by Homer'
-- sign on a hook indicating 'Lent to Homer'
-- sign indicating 'Hook Taken by Homer'
-- case of Emergency Myrrh

Maude's Ghost: "Neddy. Neddy."
Flanders: "Maude.  You've come back.  Completely clothed and untouchable.  This is the sexiest dream I've ever had."

Todd: "Daddy, why are you crying ?"
Flanders: "Oh, just watering the old lip lawn."

In Todd's candy-themed dream included marshmallow clouds, a cart with Oreo wheels, purple licorice axles and a candy-cane handle, ice cream sundae mountains, trees made of red licorice,  lollipop flowers, chocolate rocks, and his teddy bear barked gumdrops.  And for some reason there were numerous toucans, with multi-colored bills.

Video cassettes on the TV -- Have a Maudey, Roddy, Toddy Christmas, and a Neddy New Year.

Stockings on the chimney in the video -- Baby Jesus, Teenage Jesus, Mr. Jesus

First Church of Springfield -- God is Everywhere But He Wants You Right Here Once a Week

Rev. Lovejoy: "And for that simple reason we are right, and Episcopalians are wrong, wrong, wrong"

Ralph (during the Bless-a-me Street section of church): "I'd say Baby Jesus thank you for dying for our shins."

Donation collector (while fanning Flanders): "Thank God these collection baskets are empty."
Homer: "You're welcome."

Flanders: "Son, let me put this gently. We're all going to hell.  You opened a doorway to disbelief in God's own house."
Todd: "Why does God need so many houses ?  Couldn't some go to poor people ?"
Flanders: "You just stop right there boy.  You do not question God's real estate holdings and tax-free status."

4 jars in the Flanders' closet:
-- swear jar
-- impure thoughts jar
-- pants too tight jar
-- untrimmed mustache jar

Phone numbers for Rev. Lovejoy on Flanders's phone:
-- Reverend Cell
-- Reverend Home
-- Reverend Lake House
-- Reverend Office
-- Reverend Sister's Home
-- Reverend Train Room
-- Reverend Urologist

I liked how Dr. Hibbert's wife tried to pull the fire alarm to get out of the ballet recital, but it just broke off in her hand.

Rod: "Daddy, I have a problem."
Flanders: "You too ?"
Rod: "I accidentally watched a '30 Rock' by mistake."
Flanders: "Oh, oh my good good boy."
Rod: "So it's ok to watch ?"
Flanders: "Just Kenneth.  Just Kenneth."

Circle-Os -- now with some flavor!

Nelson: "Can we take pictures ?"
Otto: "Wait -- you see that too ?"

Signs in front of the Simpsons home (along with empty beer cans and Krusty the Klown doll):
-- Citation -- Must Mow Lawn
-- Citation -- Keep Boy on Leash
-- Citation -- Must Pick Up Citations

Rod: "Daddy, do you love me more now ?
Flanders: "Just by asking, you've committed the sin of pride."

Books on top of the Simpsons' fridge:
-- To Serve Man
-- No Food ? No Problem
-- Vegetables Without Tears
-- Feeding 4-1/2 people
-- Microwave Black Magic

Tod: "Hey Grandpa Simpson."
Grandpa: "buh, bah, chutch, you're talking to me directly ? Even my Alexa won't do that."
Alexa: "Being with him has made me so tired."

Loved the Jebus toast
Homer: "So much innocent bread died for my sins.  So Innocent."

Also loved that Todd could hear everything in the Simpsons household.

Homer's memory flashback
Mona: "You don't come home for dinner until 10 at night."
Abe: "You never cook anything worth eating."
Mona: "Well who wants to cook for a failure."
Abe: "Good God woman, why did you marry me ?"
Mona: "To piss off my mother, and it worked.  Tell the kid I love him but I'm as bad at goodbyes as I am at picking husbands."

Moe poured Homer a shot from a bottle of Motherless Child brand Bourbon (aged 10 years).  Lot of dead mother references this episode.

After Hans Moleman hits Homer and Flanders with his car
Uber Passenger (who looks like Lindsay Naegle): "You killed them.  This is the worst Uber ride ever.  You're getting 4 stars."
Hans Moleman: "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-oo."

Homer: "Abe Lincoln."
Lincoln: "Did you know the picture about my life is Spielberg's biggest movie ?"
Homer: "No. What about Jaws and E.T. and all the Jurassic ..."
Lincoln: "Well, how did I do at the awards ?"
Homer: "You were beaten by 'Argo'."
Lincoln: "Argo ! That was the worst experience I ever had in the theater."
<Lincoln removes his hat to reveal that part of his skill is missing>

I like that Todd also prayed to Buddha (just in case).

Buddha: "No, no, no, no.  Nirvana is for closers, and you couldn't close the deal."
Lisa: "But, but .."
Buddha: "But, but, but, but nothing. You couldn't even close Todd fricking Flanders -- that kid would follow a butterfly."
Lisa: "Just give me one more chance."
Buddha: "Do you think I got to be Buddha by being patient ?"
Lisa: "Check this out.  I got you Ralph Wiggum."
Buddha: "Ralph Wiggum ?  What am I going to do with Ralph Wiggum ?"
Ralph: "Everything is Nothing."
Buddha: "Kid.  You just blew my mind."

Yeah, her kissing Homer goodnight before leaving to join the hippies was so sweet. That was such a good episode. But glad to get Glenn Close back.

Kinda wish it had been "How to Cook for Forty Humans" from the THOH episode.

Hans fretting over a 4-star Uber rating is very funny to me. Agree this should've been a 10-years ago episode but considering mostly no one ages, who know how much time has actually passed in Springfield since Maude died.

Speaking of Maude's death, I don't remember Homer pushing her like the choir sang. I thought he just bent over to pick up something and the T-shirt form the cannon hit her and knocked her over the edge. He has done many crazy/dangerous things, but I don't think you can blame him for this one.

It was his fault that the t-shirts were fired in their direction, but he wasn't responsible for pushing her off the edge. That definitely made it seem worse than it actually was.

I thought Todd would talk about losing faith because he lost both his mom and stepmom, so I was a little sad Edna wasn't mentioned at all.

I'm glad Edna got a little nod at the end but I still felt she would have contributed to Todd's feelings. Losing his mommy is devastating to a child, but losing a second mom is what may have pushed Todd questioning God.

Lisa giving the thumbs up was the best part of the episode.

I was confused about how they said Homer's Mom left, it seemed to contradict what was in past episodes.

I liked this Flanders episode.

I liked the first turkey vignette a lot.

Also, during one of the earlier episodes, they mentioned 1-800-Kars-For-Kids.

That was good.

Also, the reference to "Halt And Catch Fire".

The impure thoughts jar was also good.

Has there been a single episode this season that's had the full theme song?

The billboard signs in the clouds; the chalkboard gag; Homer dropping the plutonium; the grocery store; Lisa playing her saxophone solo; Bart skateboarding through town; Maggie and Marge "driving" around the curves; the couch gag?

I don't think any episode has.  The Flanders episode was close, but I still think it was missing a music solo, a skateboarding equivalent; and the driving scenes.

Title: Santa in a self-flying sled.

Couch Gag: Couch is an ornament, as are the rest of the family. Homer's is so heavy it brings down the tree. Ha.

Refreshing to see Sideshow Bob again, and at Christmas this time. I could've done without the flashback to the Face/Off episode, though. I wish we saw more of Bob as a lighthouse keeper, but doesn't he still have a wife and kid? That was weird.

I did like the show reminding us that Kearney had a kid, and that Homer was a Mall Santa once, too. Burns's parents were also the ones seen at the beginning of Rosebud, too.

I liked the trip to Santa's Village. Gotta appreciate that there were machines to grind your ears and toes to look like elves. Krusty at a Dreidel Casino seemed fitting.

I appreciated that SB being the clue about the porch pirate lead  to Selma getting arrested. Scott Bakula, Steve Ballmer voiced themselves! Sandra Bullock just Birdboxed her way out. I joked that SB was code for "Waylon Smithers" like from Who Shot Mr. Burns...and it turned out I was right. Once again Burns stole Christmas and there were no consequences for it. Well, he's rich, so that wasn't unusual.

"Where are all the tycoons from your day?"
"Broke, dead, and a lot of #MeToo."

The Fox News yule log was great, but Bakula throwing a fit was gold. I did like the unholy alliance of Sideshow Bob working with the Simpsons.

I like all the olde tymey voices in the flashback.

If Mr. Burns is over a 100 years old -- he's been referred to as a centenarian in several episodes over the past 30 years -- how could he be 5 or 6 years old in 1935 ?

I liked the 3-eyed raven that flew across the screen when it said 5 weeks before Xmas. You know, because Winter is Coming.  :)

And when it said 'Late Christmas Eve' when the Simpsons were following the gray van, you could see the cooling towers of Springfield Nuclear plant emitting red steam from one tower and green steam from the other tower.  Plus you could see the smoke from the Springfield Tire Fire (though, that's not particularly seasonal).

The Fox News yule log was great

The Fox News Yule log consisted of:
-- The Constitution
-- The Bill of Rights
-- a portrait of JFK
-- a copy of 'It Takes a Village' by Hillary Clinton
-- a copy of Emily Post's 'Book of Etiquette'
-- a copy of Charles Darwin's 'The Origin of Species'
-- a copy of Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring'

That seems about right for Fox News.  All they needed was Tucker Carlson with a poker stirring the coals.

Title: Abe 2019 out, Maggie 2020 in

Billboard: 2020 Vision: We don't Help With Vision, Just The Year

Chalkboard: Teacher spent New Year's Eve At Home By Choice

Couch Gag: The family is on a penny...that crushed by a train by Nelson.

So Lisa needs Braces...again! Yeah, seeing Lisa frozen in a smile was weird. I guess I'm not used to seeing the Matt Groening round teeth on Lisa?

I always like seeing Jon Lovitz on my tv. At least they explained how Artie became rich again: creating firewood that looks like money. I wasn't expecting him to marry a LITERAL robot clone of Marge. And then employs an army of robot Marges to build homes. And then fly away from him. THAT was weird.

Hearing Martin's new voice just seemed so off, it was too distracting.

All in all, a dumb, weird episode.

I loved that on the back of Lisa's L'il Eco-Warrior magazine was an ad for the Canyonero Hybrid.  Hah !!  Quite a stretch back for that reference.  And then over the end credits, you see Lisa reading the last issue of Eco-Warrior magazine.

Tupac hologram: "Why won't you people let me die ?"

Lisa: "I thought your name was 'Kidzrule'.
Dr. Kidzrule: "It's short for 'Kidzrulevich', which is Romanian for kill all the children."

The Lobster tank is back -- at least none were floating on the surface.

Those synchronized swimmers made up to look like Artie Ziff .... were just a little creepy.

Nelson: "Her smile makes me feel full, like I actually ate dinner last night."
Bart: "If you never eat, how come you're so fat ?"
Nelson: "Americans can be fat and poor -- that's what makes us so great."

I liked that one of the robot versions of Marge was Bender from Futurama.
In addition, there was slot machine Margebot, clothes washer Margebot, two Margebots with eye-patches for some reason, spider Margebot, Slinky pushme-pullyou Margebot, and let's not forget the Margeketeers who evolved wings and flew away (because life finds a way, which is a Jurassic Park reference).

Totally agree with @Galileo908 -- whoever is doing Martin Prince's voice now needs to go back to voice acting class -- because his voice sounds way off, sounds more like Rod/Todd Flanders.

We even got a Gov. Mary Bailey sighting.

All I could think of when Lisa had her smile was the image of Lisa on The Log from 'Lisa the Tree Hugger' back in Season 12.   I wonder where that Log is now.

The Miseducation of Lisa Simpson

Finally, an origin story for the Sea Captain! Color me shocked that he was married.

So the STEM storyline was a lot like the Funzo storyline. The new school seems cool, but it's all about teaching kids that they're slaves to capitalism and the gig economy. There weren't enough lessons about how unions are evil. It wouldn't be the Simpsons if Lisa tried to ruin it. I did like that the one human job of the future is elder care. Sad, but true

Zach Woods's character was too bland. He was just...there. Silicon Valley and Avenue 5 do him justice way better.

I liked the easter eggs seen in the episode, like the Sideshow Bob skin, and THRILLHO being on the leaderboard. I also liked that the nuclear plant was coal powered, and Homer's whole John Henry-like battle against the Buzz Freestyle machine. I thought that was a weird hill to die on, but I see his point. What if you wanted Coke with orange but not with vanilla? And then everyone had to serve those machines in the future. Of course Carl is the only one who comes out on top in that Jetsons future,

Loved the Sea Captain's backstory.   Of course the Mayor redrew the Springfield City limits to screw over the Sea Captain.

Bart: "I'm going to stop you right there Skinner 2.0. It doesn't matter how you dress it up all schools are kid prisons."
Zane: "Well I'm putting you in solitary. Where you'll learn geometry by shooting meteors. Shoot enough and you'll unlock customizable skins."
Bart: "Skins ? That's how boys play dress up."

Zane: "Who can give me an example of an algorithm ?"
Lisa: "Oh, like when you buy a new garbage can online, and the rest of your life you see ads for garbage cans."
Martin: "Or like when you watch a bunch of close-up magic videos on Youtube and gets ads for a suicide hotline."

I liked how Groundskeeper Willie was making the letters for the sign out of MyPads, one letter per MyPad.

Loved that Nelson's handle on the The Star Board was "Haw²"

Kearney: "No one should see old people naked, unless that's your kink."

Liked the end credits scene where Supernintendo Chalmers (at least that's what Ralph Wiggum calls him) was pulling a Jack from Titanic on the Ohio River cruise.

I thought this was more subtle then the show usually gets.   It is a viable theory that most jobs we are teaching for will be long gone by the time current generations become ready for them and with all the Baby boomers reaching their golden years the biggest market for mid and low paying jobs is going to be elder care.    So you will have 2 basic Learning algorithms.    The Lisa algorithm teaching for all the high powered tech jobs and the Bart algorithm where you teach for the multiple elder care jobs and side hustles.

And yeah the Raiders of the Lost Arc opening with The Sea Captain was great.

Some subscribe to the notion that doing Elder Care is divine work. Apps and bots won't be rewarded in the next incarnation. Thus Elder Care indeed should be reserved for young humans. The Simpsons might have a prequel or sequel episode about compulsory domestic service during a gap year after high school.

Couch Gag: Cats! Somehow more coherent than the movie.

I liked everything about Frink in this. It was good to see that Frink's dad was the same as the one we saw in THOH (his picture was also on his bookshelf).

I also liked Smithers' plot, and I wanted to see more of the sycophant support group.

"You'll have to excuse her. She's in the HUMANITIES." Boy I felt that.

Jim Parson's film about cryptocurrency was very Troy MacClure-esque, I liked it.

Loved how Disney forbids Patty and Selma from smoking.

I loved the (inevitable) Three Billboards reference to Chief Wiggum.

"Once again I am the richest man...in a town of 32,000 people." Good to see Mr. Burns be evil again.

Pretty good episode.

Loved Cletus' Hedge Fund.

It was great getting more of Frink's story.

I liked the wall of trivia champs in Moe's Tavern (2018 Almost Lenny).

There must of have been a scene cut when Frink was answering the 4 trivia questions, as Moe's laptop started to smoke, but there was no follow up.

The 2001: A Space Odyssey reference was a nice touch.

The list of celebrities named during the Celebrity Executive Assistant Support Group were:
-- Bruce Willis
-- Christian Bale
-- Roseanne
-- Jared Leto
-- Roseanne
-- Katheine Heigl
-- Trump
-- Trump
-- Trump
-- Roseanne

Frink: "That's it.  From now on my only company will be A.I., I insist."
A.I.: "My first independent thought is 'I dislike you'."

Washington: "Didn't I fight along side of you during the war ?"
Burns: "Um, we weren't on the same side, but I was there."

The full text of the slide at the end of Jim Parsons' cryptocurrency video:

"Cryptocurrency is a system that does not rely on a a non-cryptocurrency
central authority, but instead relies on a non-centralized distributed
consensus of cryptocurrency ownership.  Using the word
"cryptocurrency" repeatedly when defining cryptocurrency makes it seem
like we have a cryptocurrency novice's understaning of cryptocurrency .
Well, that is a total pile of cryptocurrency.  In this system, rules are defined
for the creation of additional units of cryptocurrency.  They can be
generated by fiat like traditional currency or just thrown around randomly
or all given to LeBron.  But for some reason these crypto guys are really
