Why don't they close down the concession stands and bathrooms during the anthem so everyone is forced to stand up? Better yet, why doesn't every armchair asshole stand up at home during the anthem ins

Why can't we laugh at the stupid mush-for-brains owner? At least the mascot is somewhat weird & somewhat likable.

Those 1pm Week 18 games (even thinking that we have a week 18 pisses me off), are basically going to be a 3 hour nap. And I'm going to need the Philadelphia Eagles to wake the hell up & win against the Giants to make sure that the Cowboys don't win the sorry NFC East. I know that Jalen Hurts was out a couple of weeks. But, it really irritates me that the Cowboys still has the chance at winning that stupid sorry division, that 1 seed, & that bye. In fact, just even thinking about ESPN's favorite division (NFC East) at week 18 really pisses me off.

I agree, and I was the one who recently brought up how cool it was that the 2007 Giants played to win that game, and the whole Madden thing and so on.

The 2007 Giants were also a team that just started to figure out how good they were about a month before that game. They weren't a particularly young team, and Coughlin was right. They needed to keep playing to keep up the groove they had found. They kept that groove going going 4-0 in the playoffs and then 11-1 at the start of 2008 until Plaxico shot himself and it all crashed.

This Giants team is fun, but the whole thing revolves around good play calling and Jones/Barkely/Andrew Thomas on offense, and a good defensive line with some crazy-ass aggressive defensive defensive calls. The Giants would be MUCH better off this time to give some of their key players a bye week.

I've never seen an ambulance on the field that fast!  Or a network shying away from showing what's happening.  Is this a cardiac issue rather than an injury?!

Jesus, yeah, they just admitted it -- they've been doing CPR.

I knew from the stunned faces and "Oh my god"s from the Bills players something different was going on, and then when that ambulance came out so fast and ESPN kept cutting away, I just knew they were working on his heart, but hearing it confirmed was still like a punch; I started shaking.

While it's a choice and a career path, I gotta respect those players on the gridiron. This sad situation happened in a Bowl game earlier (LSU vs Purdue). With the exception of those that served in the military, this is a career path where a simple life or livelihood could be over in a second.

Cincy crowd very classy right now. I’m glad they are taking a break right now and suspending the game because Hamlin’s health is the most important right now. I hope they were able to restart his heart and get a pulse.

Reminds me of Reggie Brown, Detroit Lions player who was injured and stopped breathing on the field.  He survived, but had suffered a very serious neck injury. He had surgery, was in a halo device for months, and was able to walk again.  In that game, the players didn't want to continue playing but they were told they had to.  That was in the mid-90s, 1997 I think.

Wow.  I just tuned in.  What a terrible thing to happen to this young man.  They should just cancel the game.  Hopefully he's okay, and if he is, it'll be tough for those guys to go back out and compete.  I don't think they should ask that from them at this point.

I can't imagine regrouping to watch this game, let alone play it.  Unless they get a great update on him, I can't imagine them going back out there.  I can't imagine them going back out there even if they do; they need to recover from the trauma -- let everyone go to the hospital, go home, whatever.  Play this thing later in the week.  Goodell needs to just say it will be rescheduled, rather than putting it on traumatized coaches and players to make a decision.

I've watched football most of my life, and I've hoped a player's injury wasn't career ending, I've had some horrible instances of hoping a guy didn't wind up paralyzed, but I have never before stood in front of the TV afraid one was going to die on the field.

I don't know if it's up to Roger to call it or if he has to get the OK from his employers.  If he does, that's a problem for several reasons, but if he says we're done here, I hardly think his career falls in the short run or in the long run.

They just said that when they went to put him in the ambulance, they had to put him back on the ground to do CPR.  They're waiting on Goodell, with consultation from the coaches, to decide whether to continue or not.  Just call it.  How can anybody celebrate TDs, etc. after seeing what just happened? Have some respect.

I'm glad to hear he had family in the stadium able to get down and be with him in the ambulance; I'm sure there are still terrified loved ones states away making frantic phone calls, but his mom, at least, is with him.

His employers are the owners. If any of those guys seriously insist on playing after an employee almost  dies on the field hey need to be forced to sell their teams.

Even if *the players* want to resume playing, it would be so dangerous for them to do so when they are not 100% mentally in the game.

I thought the same thing as Dr. Spaceman - the hit to his chest was hard enough to stop his heart.

Beat case scenario for him right now is he is on a ventilator, probably therapeutic hypothermia to minimize brain damage and you watch him for several days and make sure he has no further cardiac arrest. Won't know for a week or so about his recovery or long term damage, prognosis. 

I don't want to say the worst case scenario

Myocardial contusions are frightening. I don’t even know what’s taking them so long to suspend the game tonight. Hamlin’s health is much more important that a football game.

Yes to all of this. This absolutely needs to be canceled. My heart was in my mouth and I had tears in my eyes.

Each head coach was on the phone with someone. My guess it was Goodell or someone from the head office is asking how the teams are doing and how they would feel about resuming or canceling.

I've been in the stands at a game when a player was injured, put in a neck brace and strapped to a backboard (fortunately not paralyzed, not career-ending) and  a game where a player suffered a dislocated/compound fractured ankle, with players motioning frantically for medical personnel.  In both circumstances an ambulance came on the field.  Both were absolutely devastating to see; I cannot imagine being at a game as a player is given CPR, nor being a player on the field as that happened.  And I cannot help but think of Damar Hamlin's extended family and friends watching this game and seeing this happen.
