My guess is that it's the same thing that's happening with Pittsburgh & Washington.  All 3 feature defensive-minded leadership.  So they'll stick with what keeps them at ease, not pivot to something when it's obvious it's not going to work, and then bring it back season after season.  They never make changes right away.  So years come & go because that leadership has to be the "smartest in a room" and would rather not admit a mistake until after it's way too late, but not before defecting blame onto something or someone else

They're a year tardy there, but better late than never.  I'd say no it's not going to help, but that's overnight.  In the long run, who knows?  The fact is that Matt Canada should not have been hired in the first place.  He was unqualified, and he was awful in college.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may or may not be on the hot seat.  He was never going to be fired this offseason, but his contract is up at the end of 2024.

I guess I'm surprised because Pittsburgh has never done this before.  However, with an organization that is the most loyal out of the 32 teams, people usually use that extra time to get better.  Canada did nothing; everyone else has to get better & learn in the off-season (or in-season).

One might see this as Coach T doing whatever it takes to maintain his own goal in lieu of the ultimate goal (the seventh title).  Maybe, but last night Philadelphia did a lot of people a favor.  While the QB play was awful, Kenny should be given a chance to get better.  He's not going to be Burrow or Herbert, but despite "saying" he was the worst in league history there's still a small sample size.  I knew what Canada was going back to 2022 (as it relates to an NFL coach).

Not sure if this move is made if Pittsburgh escapes with a win on Sunday, if Kansas City survives on Monday, or if Burrow doesn't get hurt on Thursday

I'm not sure their offense has ever been this in dire need of a change before.  The Steelers organization does not like drama. And we have players speaking out with their frustrations.  You don't want your players to lose that desire to win and with Canada not seeming to want to do anything to change what wasn't working I can understand why they pulled the trigger.

I think it was a combination of all three.  They lost a game they could have and probably should have won.  Cincinnati looks to be easier to beat now (but I thought the same thing about the Browns) and KC might not be running the table.  They are still in the playoff mix.  And who knows?  This just might be the spark to get the offense moving.

Heh!

I don't think I'd actually pray for someone else to get fired, at least directly.  I would just love my team to succeed, and in more ways than one.  Sure the objective is to win games, but what makes people great in sports and in everything else is being victorious in more ways than one.

You pray for success by any means, so if it means going in a new direction, I guess one would pray for the ouster.  Nothing personal, just business.

Until it's over, Kansas City is still the team to beat.  Outside, I'd still go with Baltimore, but as mentioned, Pittsburgh is in the playoff mix.  They still were before this news, but the "odds" of staying there and maybe improving went up IMO.  While it's not happening (unless it does), they actually could do enough to not only win the division, but be the Top seed.  They'll now need help but getting to the postseason is still in their control (and they could still slip once too, but that depends on the foe and the outlook of the NFL

Any given Sunday (and Mondays and Thursdays now) anything can happen.  People get hurt.  People give the ball away.  Your team changes offensive coordinators in the middle of the season.  For each action there is an equal reaction.  Do the Steelers get better now?  I don't know.  Hopefully.  Do the Bengals lose (more) games now without Burrow?  Probably but you don't know.  Did the Chief's two turnovers in the red zone cost them the game?  Maybe but you don't know.

There is still a lot of football left to play

Having a hard time getting into football this season. So many injuries and QBs out. Being forced to watch all the Cardinal's games instead of better games. All my favorite QB cuties gone. What is a girl to do? I guess there is always rooting against Dallas and KC. Maybe I'll just randomly start rooting for the Jaguars or something.

Rather than rooting for a team, just root for an outcome.  To be specific, hope Taylor Swift returns to Arrowhead.  That way, after Travis puts the ball on the ground for a possession change, I can see her sad face on TV!

Tom Brady needs to shut the fuck up.  This is all YOUR fault, asshole.

I don't know why he really cares about the NFL Product being mediocre. He's retired & he doesn't have to deal with that anymore. He really needs to take his 7 Super Bowl rings & go the hell away. I'm frankly not interested in his football analysis on TV next season. We'll be getting a whole lot of mediocrity from him doing NFL commentary.

As for last night's game, it was OK & it was good that the Chiefs lost in the end. Hopefully, that will continue on the Playoffs. Other than that, watching last night's game was headache inducing.

Catlin Clark (Iowa) was on the ManningCast last night. Yay. 😒 I was eye rolling throughout that segment. It was almost like Steph was there & except for the championships, Catlin Clark is pretty similar to Steph. She's has Steph like tendencies, has Steph being Steph like energy, & is hero-worshipped on ESPN all the time like Steph.

Shaq leonard cut by colts.

Not a surprise it happened but that it happened now. Thought they'd wait out the season.

He just isn't the same all year since his back surgery. I empathize with him.  Performing after such an injury at a high level again is hard.

But I've seen it all season.  He complains about playing time but you see him

Burnt in coverage

Had a chance for a fumble recovery last week too slow and a lineman gets it

Completely whiffed on a screen in the backfield vs pats missed tackle goes from 5 yard loss to 20+ yard gain

Week one ettiene ran right by him on crucial 4th quarter td.

Last week Ezekiel elliot goes right by him like he's standing still downfield

EJ speed has performed great and better than him, all there is too it.

NFL careers are short all too often.

I can't speak for Kansas City, but the Florida State Seminoles have the full support of the Seminole Tribe.  And they also do the tomahawk chop and war chant.

Same thing with the Atlanta Braves.  They cut a deal with a local tribe that owns a casino.  The tribe leaders said the name and the chop were fine by them and they got a bunch of free advertising for their casino from the Braves.

Call me crazy (or call me a Cleveland baseball fan), but if the chop and the name is not kosher in Washington Dc or Cleveland; than it is not ok anywhere else, no matter what perks the local Native Americans receive in return for approving.

I was just sick about this. I can’t imagine what was going on behind the scenes that was bad enough for them to boot him now and not wait until the season was over. Even not playing well he was a huge fan favorite. The shock and hurt he was expressing at his news interview made me sad.

My late FIL was 1/2 Arrapahoe, and NONE of his relatives had any problem with the Indians name or the late John Adam's drumming.  He waals contacted by outside do gooders, who transported protesters to The Jake & Cleveland.  They made big promises of free transportion, food & hotel on return.  He wanted none of that, esp considering he only lived 1-1/2 hrs from.downtown Cleveland.  But it was the principle of people drumming up news and justifying it by using others.

The Redskins, Chiefs and Braves names, OTOH did bother some of them, as they are considered more descriptive/racist than Seminoles or Indians - which describe a legal grouping.

He's been publicly complaining about not getting more playing tume. More playing time he hasn't earned based on his on field performance.

Fans loved the old pre injury leonard.  The leonard we've seen the last two seasons is hard to watch.

I think that, like any other group,  Native Americans don't all think alike.  I had a friend whose mother used to protest at the games. I don't recall which tribe, but she was Native American and used to walk outside Jacobs Field carrying a sign multiple times each year.  She lived in Cleveland, nobody was paying her, she really hated the name.  My friend, her son, obviously also Native American, had no problem with the name or anything else.  He was a big baseball fan.  I attended a couple games with him several seasons.  We'd find his mom and say 'hello' before going in if she was there.  She'd come up and hug and kiss us as we wore our Tribe gear while she had her sign.   We'd chat a bit and then we'd head on into the stadium and she'd return to her picket line.

I don’t want to be excited for Black Friday football but dammit, every time I hear the opening licks of “Paint it Black” (one of the greatest songs in history *and* the only Stones song I like) they suck me right in.

It’s Boyle Time, baby.

I'm feeling a different type of excitement for the Dolphins - Jets on Black Friday. A stomach-cramp inducing excitement.

As for today's games, other than the Lions being good for a change, the only good thing about Packers - Lions is that Aaron Rodgers isn't around anymore.

Those sucky Commanders - Cowboys game is going be all kinds of suck. Both of them suck, are absolute scum, & are downright unrootable.

BTW, the halftime shows on those 2 games absolutely suck & are flat out pointless. It pisses me off that the NFL even bother with this nonsense. The only game that this tripe makes sense, is worth watching & my time is at the Super Bowl.

49ers - Seahawks is basically meh. I'll just watch it while going through the motions.

To be honest, it's a coinflip for me in terms of the Seahawks uniforms.  I think of Oregon and their unique uniforms for their games.  I'd rather see Seattle put the same efforts towards winning the most important games that they do with their uniforms.

On the other hand, green is my favorite color, so I love those uniforms. While going with classic stuff, it's not a big deal; I'm okay with it

When I heard him complain about mediocrity, which the players helped foster by asking for less practice in the CBA, it made me wonder about him on FOX next year and how much tolerance they'll give him.

You can annoy viewers with commentary but there are limits about how much you can trash the product.   All of these guys do a bit of gassing up the product. A 0 and 10 team goes up against a 10-0 team?  Here's how the 0-10 team can win.

I don't think anyone could have predicted the score in the first half. Mr. Simone Biles scored a touchdown,

Such a quiet TD.  Good on him to recognize it wasn't an incomplete pass as everyone assumed.

The Lions realize it's 2023, right? Shitting the bed on Thanksgiving is what the old Lions would do.

Never bet against the waxing gabbeous moon.

I loved being lazy and watching more football than I normally do but I had to turn off the Seattle game.  There was someone near the commentators who would not stop screaming.  It was annoying.
