Wow... And if the ratings remain stable or even rise... Oh my! I cringe at the conclusion the writers and showrunners would take from that.

Glad I dropped the show. First OUAT.... Now this! Oh well.

Arrow and Black Canary fighting together at last!

Um pretty sure Arrow and Black Canary fought together in s2 when the Black Canary's name was Sara Lance .

Revisionist history 101

But don't you know, catrox14? Sara was only The Canary. Not The Black Canary. [insert eyeroll here]

Because who cares that there were 2 Black Canaries in the comic books (which would make Sara BC #1), that Sara was given many BC traits and that the producers/writers/DC called her Black Canary several times?

I would just prepare now that the ratings will be just fine as they have been for all the rest of the crappy/nonsensical writing this season. MG wouldn't have pointed out the ratings in interviews or been so snarky/dismissive of fans' dislike of the retconning of characters and storylines otherwise. I'm fairly certain he's patting himself on the back right now at his showrunning skills because of it.

Yeah, they're going to be just fine, and they haven't run anyone off (ratings-wise) with the BC storyline, and I think that's probably what they were going for. So yeah, I'm sure they see that as a success. And it kind of is, because as much as I feel blah about this, I'm still tuning in. For now. I'm sure that apart from the people who are super excited for the way things are going, there are a lot of other people like me who feel like they're in the muck but aren't quite ready to ditch the show yet.

One comment to this video said that this interview was done at the TCAs (because other commenters were asking about EBR's omission).  This interview includes SA, DR, KC, JB and BR...

So Mama Smoak is having scenes with Ray? Are you freaking kidding me?

It's bad enough that in episode 305 she had more screen time and dialogue with Ray than Oliver.

I will be royally pissed if she has scenes with Ray and not Oliver.

What is wrong with these Arrow writers?

What exactly is his point here? That they are in fact using Diggle and Felicity to prop up Laurel but that people only complain about Felicity doing it?

Pretty much. IMO he just inadvertently admitted that Diggle is used as a prop too but not as many people call him on it.

But what he's also missing is that this really isn't something Diggle does that much. Yes, he supports Oliver, and encourages him to be better. But I think he comes at it from a more pragmatic perspective (see his continuing to advise him not to tell Thea, among other things), where Felicity definitely comes from more of an emotional, human perspective. So if Diggle had said something like this to Laurel, I would still have rolled my eyes and been pissed off, but because he looks at things from a more detached position much of the time, I might have been more willing to dismiss it as a misread of the situation. Also, because of that detached position, I think Diggle looks at someone like Laurel and thinks, well, she wants to do this. Whatever happens is on her. Where Felicity and Oliver are, and have always been, more cautious and concerned about people getting into situations they can't handle, so Felicity pushing Laurel out before she's ready reads as OOC to me.

Anyway, MG does this a lot--he derails conversations about women and feminist issues by bringing up men. Awhile back someone linked to a tweet of his, and I looked at the whole conversation, which was basically a back-and-forth with a woman who was calling him out on the fridging we've talked about here. Specifically, the number of women who have died--on and off-screen--in order to propel heroes' journeys, and the ways those characters were killed on their knees, or in other non-fighting-back ways, where male characters often die fighting and don't really die at all. MG ignored all of those good points and instead said, "I notice you're leaving out Tommy, because it doesn't fit your argument," and then he blocked the user. Like...that is a classic avoid and derail. Ditto with the Diggle response.

Yeah, he did. It was clearly unintentional though, lol. I'm sure he was trying to imply something else,  and ended up telling the truth.

I agree with that and indeed agree with him, on that, but in Canaries he actually says "she can handle herself" and we have not really seen evidence that she can handle herself, and so I think that was OOC, and was pure propping, and yes I'm still as mad about that GooG as am about Felicity. And people definitely flipped their shit earlier in the season when Diggle did something else hugely out of character (and I can't even remember what that was because there have been so many instances for everyone TA).

So, like, shut it, people have absolutely critiqued Digg for being OOC too.

I believe it was when he basically told Oliver to throw Roy to the wolves for "killing" Sara. Even though this wasn't an instance of propping, people were so vocal about how OOC that was for him. There's no way that didn't get back to MG.

Yes that was it, and yeah I didn't mean that as an instance of propping, though I think it was propping "the plot" rather than a specific character. His insistence she could handle herself, and Oliver's line about how TA minus him took care of the city while he was gone was the propping and they essentially did two time jumps (two weeks in Uprising to make it close to a month he was gone, and what three weeks between Uprising and Canaries to sell the idea Laurel's been out there "holding her own"). Ugh.

angelsanddemons84 asked:

Do you keep track of your own characters & what they've previously said & done? One minute Roy hates Malcolm, then he's ok. Same with Thea. She trusts him. Then she doesn't. Felicity admired Sara but suddenly she's shitting on her & saying she doesn't have a light inside her? Diggle is a trained soldier but now he stays in the lair. Laurel had boxing lessons & now she's a hero in 3 episodes. Oliver sacrificed himself but now he doesn't get a say. You've lost the plot and a viewer.

Hmm.  Keeping track of the characters.  Hey, that’s a good tip.  Thanks.  We’ll try.

There's snarky and then there's acknowledging and ignoring legitimate criticisms. What was the point of answering that question if he was just going to ignore things and pretend that's what they've been doing all of the time.

I prefer to ignore what writers say about their shows, because some of them tend to excessively overpraise themselves and think that they're smarter than their fanbases, but their seems to be no escaping MG's blatant inability to acknowledge the stupidity of his own writing.

Well, I can get a snarky retort to a snarky comment. I absolutely agree with the inconsistency in the characters, but starting the post with, "Hey do you even keep track of your characters?" isn't going to get you a thoughtful or respectful answer.

Don't worry, he found a way to be condescending even when the question was phrased nicely:

teenytinybabyhands asked: So I'm a little confused.. Before, Roy wanted to team up with Malcolm, and now he's against it because of Thea? What are his motives?

MG: He was willing to team up with Merlyn to stop Brick, but is against Malcolm being in Thea’s life if Thea doesn’t want him to be.  I don’t see the contradiction.

Ugh. No one was saying there was a contradiction, you smug a-hole. She was asking you to explain it to her because she obviously didn't get the information in your super well thought out and amazing narrative!!!

It looks like a few people on Tumblr responded to that post, pointing out that it wasn't just that Roy was in support of working with Merlyn last week to defeat Brick--his reasons were that MM really cares about Thea and about the city, he just shows it in a messed up way. So, again, last week, Roy believes Malcolm wants the best for Thea. This week, Malcolm should not be allowed anywhere near her. It's not just that Roy is recognizing Thea's agency, and supporting whatever it is that she wants. It's that he's a convenient dude to use to offer an opposing viewpoint, because he's not a very established character, so the writers feel free to pull him in various directions.

...hahaha jk they feel free to do that with all the characters now.

I'm not sure why I keep thinking if one engages respectfully that people will respond respectfully on the interwebs. Oh, wait. Maybe it's because people manage to do that here (and on gofugyourself.com - I love those girls), so I keep foolishly thinking it works on other sites as well.

I retract my limited defense of MG's response.

MG is a moron lol. I can't even be bothered to go ask him any questions because I've seen enough of his answers to know it would be a sorry waste of my time. Whether he sees it or not, the writing is BAD this season. When the season 3 DVD comes out, it should say 'Arrow: AKA Invasion of the Plot Bunny Bodysnatchers'

For Arrow, they have Diggle, Felicity and Oliver (for Felicity, I wish the CW Marketing people had picked her trademark look of glasses and ponytail instead of the glammed-up look)...

CW Valentine's Day Cards 2015 - Various Shows

If they had to go the glammed-up look I would have preferred her Flash trivia night look or 1st date night (prior to the RPG) look.  EBR's gorgeous but "Cinderella" Felicity doesn't appeal to me.

IMO, it's all the same look. I actually think her look from the trivia night with Barry was the least like her.

That was her most revealing dress I didn't have any complaints as a man who finds her sexy as Hell but you are right it's the least Felicity-Like. Thought I find her gorgeous all the time lol

Stephen Amell posted this today, and the reactions are mixed. I'm personally disappointed in it, but some see to agree with him.

Why do I have the feeling it was Miley Cyrus and her Schwarzenegger (sp?) boyfriend?  If it was, I can't say I disagree with him.

For someone who makes a living off of his body (and has made a living off of sexualizing himself in shows like Hung and whatever that soft core Canadian porn he was in), he certainly has a lot of pretty gross opinions about women and what they do with their bodies. The stuff he says about Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus makes me uncomfortable not only because of his spiel about not being a negative asshole but also because it's kind of chauvinistic and body police-y and it makes me think not so great things about him.

He can father his child however he chooses - I'm not judging his parenting, and he can like and not like whomever he chooses. But don't post stuff like that. Yes, your life as a father is so difficult. Just imagine what it's going to be like for your daughter once she grows up.

Isn't his daughter like two?  What does he think is going to happen between some starlet and his barely-toddling daughter in the middle of the day?  That's pretty weird.  I dropped off his FB page because I could not even with his enthusiasm about the current stupidity of his show.

It was a weird post. I'd maybe understand if he knew the guy and knew he was shady, but I didn't get that impression. I hate the overprotective father of daughters stuff. Not just from SA, from anyone. It's gross. Teach your child - boy or girl - to respect themselves and give them the tools to make good decisions.

It really was a weird post. And the fact that he was so scandalized about his too-young-to-be-impressionable daughter even being in the same room with this person actually makes him look like the pathetic one, not her.

Super gross. And what does "emotional terrorist" even mean to him? That's...not the way I would use that term. And just BTW anyone wondering: "this" is not what it's like to have a daughter. "This" is what it's like to be a parent who is terrified to realize that all the women you ever objectified were someone's baby once upon a time...

But um, yeah, this is why I don't follow him on FB I guess. He posted that pic once of him at a gun range with some tee-shirt that referred to someone trying to date his daughter and I was like, "nope."

He completely over-reacted. Hopefully by the time Mavi is 12 he'll figure things out.

But i think it's sweet that he's so protective as a father.  I know a young woman who would love to have her father care that much about her, intimidate her boyfriends and look out for her but he's off doing his own thing and she's left dreaming.

Conclusion:  Fatherhood is a learning curve. Don't post about it on Facebook.

I go back and forth on this.  He often comes across as a bit tone deaf on social media - but I kind of get it.  I think the reaction was extreme, but I get that terrified feeling of parenting a child and realizing how much they are exposed to.  I've only had a girl, so I can't speak to anything else, but I know when I saw "Boyhood" my reaction after being impressed with the effort was abject terror at the way middle school boys talked about girls.  I think it must be a strange experience to be on the opposite side of the gender.  My fears around my daughter's experience are colored by my own.  My husband's is knowing what teenage and pre-teen boys are really like.  Add in fame?  I think that's a weird experience.

From what I have seen about his wife on social media, she's pretty strong willed so I expect she has just as much say as SA does on what happens in their daughter's life.  I'm guessing they were done with breakfast at that point, other than his wife enjoying her latte.  Like anything, the retelling of a story is often more interesting than the actual experience.  I suspect - but who knows, I don't travel in the same circles.  LOL
