The tour show I went to was several years ago....not sure which season. I saw the tour show in a large arena but I was still able to identify who was who on the dance floor without needing binoculars. Anyway.....I remember very distinctly there was one blonde male dancer that stood out on the dance floor and all I could say was "who in the world is that????" Well, turned out to be none other than Derek Hough and he was cast for the TV show the next season. Derek is mesmerizing in person and really does stand out from the rest. Having said that....Val was not in the tour show and I would imagine he also has a very strong presence in person.

In the same tour show,I also remember a Rumba perfomed by Louis Van Amstel and Karina that, to this very day, still send chills down my spine. They were so absolutely gorgeous on the dance floor together. Louis, BTW, choreographed the tour show I saw.

Wow apparently ticket sales are going really well.  I got 2 tickets the other day for the NY Beacon Theater and decided to check today to see if I can get 2 more for my parents. Sold out. So I checked Mohegan Sun in CT and since it said tickets not available online called and they said they said they just sold out tonight.  When you look at the Ticketmaster site at all the show listings you see a lot of going right down the line either "not many left" or "no tickets right now", even the ones that say not many are sold out once you click the link to look for tickets.  Did the last tour do this well? The producers have to be ecstatic.

Scalpers will always buy some tix to shows but with the way the TM site is set up now they cant really buy in bulk quantities like they use to do at one time.  And if scalpers did somehow buy some large amount for DWTS they would mainly doing that knowing that its a hot item..they dont buy for shows that they know will be hard to sell.  I just checked one of the major broker sites and the Beacon Theatre show I mentioned they have 22 tickets listed.

Alfonso is proving to be one heckuva draw, eh?

It's always such a fine line to be drawn when mapping out such a tour.  Houses too big?  Not big enough?  Economy?  Star power?  I know I'd much rather be in a more intimate place and pay a little more for a seat than to be in an arena setting.  I lived literally next door to the Beacon.  Perfect venue for a tour such as this.

The show in my town sold out before the second round of pros were even announced. They added a second afternoon show, which sold out within hours. People have been going crazy for them since it was first announced. This is all for a Sunday in December in snow country in a small town where most people will have to travel to get to the show.

The ticket sales really surprised me. I thought tickets were on the pricey side, especially when they hadn't announced who would be on tour yet, but that hasn't seemed to hold up sales. I wonder if they're already planning the summer tour.

I read a couple of full reviews and to be quite honest while people are raving about it, I'm sort of not as excited as I was when I got my tickets. For one Alfonso being in only 3 numbers (The Carlton, Paso and Freestyle so basically his showstoppers but still) and the remainder of it is Alfonso acting as a host including him doing this awkward Q&A.  Dont even get me started on Val practically having his shirt off the whole time.  After a while I would imagine even for his biggest fangirls it loses its excitement.

Perhaps there's more, that's the stuff I could find. I think it all looks great. (-: And I have to say, it is a stark reminder how much the pros are dancing down to their celebs and holding back. Wow. Alfonso can keep up somewhat because he's got his dance training etc. I'm glad the focus is on the pros and I think having other celebs there would have diluted that, people like Sadie and Janel (great as they were in the context of DWTS) just wouldn't be able to keep up at all.

Or when you see footage of Sway, the production of the DWM dance studios, and even Meryl, really awesome on DWTS, is visibly out of place and you see how much Maks is holding back when he dances with her compared to how he dances with Peta...I mean, theoretically I know that the judges blubbering on about "dancing like a pro" are full of it, but to see clear evidence like that is still a bit of an eye-opener, I guess LOL.

Saw the show in Nashville last night - really enjoyed it.  Shawn Johnson was in the audience and she went up on stage for Q&A and then during intermission she was swarmed by folks wanting to have their picture taken with her.  After intermission, Mark Waltrip came on stage to talk with Emma and Alfonso.  The dancing was fun to watch and I am particularly happy to see Kym again - she looked so beautiful and her long dresses were elegant and classy.  I'm glad she's coming back to the show.  Val drew much more attention than any of the other fellows.  Alfonso and Witney were sweet together.  It was at the Ryman Auditorium, so much smaller venue than previous years when we were in a huge arena with big screen TVs - no TVs at all last night!

Looks like a lot more dancing than I expected, and I'm also happy most will be with pros (3 from Alfonso plus him hosting seems like a perfect mix to me). Really looking forward to this--hope they can keep their energy and enthusiasm all the way to the West Coast.

Janel is supposed to be making cameos at the San Diego and LA shows, but who knows if she even still is as I don't think she and Val are on speaking terms.   She hasn't confirmed her appearances, outside of a tweet over a month ago either.

What surprises me most about this tour is how small the cast really is.  There are maybe what, 12 people on tour?  And one of those people is a musician and not a dancer.

From the tour reviews it kind of feels like Val and Mark get the most attention, probably followed by Witney.  Which isn't really surprising. I've seen Val dance live a few times in the recent DWM productions and he really is a very dynamic dancer live.  His legs when he jives are really something to witness.

Also Val confirmed in a tour interview that he's definitely back next season and reports back to work only a few days after tour.  So I guess he already knows he's back at least.

Val said in an interview last week she would be joining the California stops, so is this thing now where they arent speaking a new development? To be honest even it it is, and Janel signed anything formal to join the tour I expect the producers to tell her to suck it up and make the best of any drama happening.

I've been watching a bunch of vids on YouTube and Instagram and its so funny how one of the complaints I know some of us had was that during the tap solo during the Alfonso/Witney freestyle that the audience basically wouldnt stop screaming and how it ruined the moment..well same thing here.  I saw about 4-5 different videos of the dance from different shows and they wont shut up.

Link to comment

Janel was never supposed to join all the California stops.  Just the San Diego and LA shows.  I presume she is probably contractually obligated to do them.  It's just weird because DWTS has never officially announced what shows she will be involved with, so it's not as is people bought tickets knowing if she would be there in the first place.  They haven't mentioned her at all since the DWTS finale and she's not mentioned anywhere on the tour website.  She answered a fan tweet once about a month ago about what shows she is doing and has said nothing since.

Val did mention it in an interview last week, but I don't think he would say anything if she weren't doing them.  That would be Janel's announcement to make.  That said, I presume she's still doing the two shows at least.  I won't recount their stupid drama, but yes, they are not on good terms at all.

We saw this show last night at the Caesar's casino in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. We saw it in the evening. I guess it sold out so quickly--the only show ever to do that at the casino, which hosts some really big-name acts--that they added a matinee in the afternoon, which was also packed. I don't know if that's the Alfonso effect, or just a natural offshoot of the show being on so long, but that's pretty good for a TV show that often feels like it's getting creaky.

It was enjoyable--probably more so for a fan of the show, but my husband (who doesn't watch, but likes Alfonso Ribeiro a lot), didn't fall asleep, which is the ultimate seal of approval, LOL. Probably because Alfonso was on a lot as the emcee, with a lot of corny jokes, which Mr. kirinan likes. The dancing, of course, was great, and I'm with the other poster--I couldn't believe I enjoyed Mark's singing. He's a good guitar player, and Val did a very respectable job with the violin. I would say that Val got the biggest response all through the night, even more than Alfonso, who got a fantastic response. They opened with Alfonso and Witney doing the Carlton, and people went absolutely nuts. There was a lot of talking in between (filler, just like the show itself), but it appears they're getting the rhythm down because it didn't seem too awkward.

Let's see, what else? Witney's adorable, and funny, Kym has the longest legs I have EVER seen on a woman, I swear, and it was good to see her again. She's an amazing dancer, probably the best of the ladies they had there. I've missed her. I love Emma. She's seems like such a nice, friendly person, and I hope she gets a better celeb next season if she's on, because she's good. Sasha's a good dancer, Keo is very tall and also an excellent dancer. I look forward to more from him. I didn't recognize the last guy (Paul? can't remember, and the other two women, whose names escape me). I wish they had done Alfonso and Witney's first-week dance, but they didn't. The three they did do were good. Val had his shirt off frequently, to the great approval of the fangirls--of all ages--in the crowd. My husband leaned over at one point and said, "Does he do this on the show, too?" I told him ALL the time. He asked when one of the girls gets to do that. I told him keep waiting. :)  There was some traditional ballroom, some of the more modern stuff they do so much of at commercial breaks on the show, and they did two contemporaries, which, sorry, I just don't like, even in person.

I will say I think Val is the best dancer, although Mark (I can't believe I'm saying this, because normally I don't care for him) is a close second. Val got up there and talked to the audience a bit, and he's very likable. He's also very Russian and dramatic in the way he plays violin. He connected well with the crowd, I thought. And as much as I always liked Maks, he's way more appealing than Maks because he seems like a nicer guy.

All in all, a worthwhile show to see, even if my husband didn't get his nap in.

Anything interesting from the Q&A?

Not too much; it was pretty innocuous stuff. It was nice to see their personalities, though. Sasha did tell a funny story about Mark's "burrito hugs," which I gather are basically Mark eating burritos, opening the curtains to someone's bunk, and farting in their faces. They all agreed they have a great time on the tour bus, and they do seem to get along very well.

I just saw the show in at Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota. This was the first DWTS live show that I've seen, and I was very impressed. The show was a ton of fun and really made me look forward to next season. Emma was a definite highlight. She is extraordinarily talented and has miles of personality to spare. I also really enjoyed Keo. I hope he gets a better partner next time around. I would say that Val was the standout fan favorite. All he had to do was lift his little finger and all the ladies were swooning in the aisles. In fact, I'm pretty sure that after his first paso, every woman in the venue ovulated simultaneously, even the women who had gone through menopause a decade ago.

The real eye opener for me was seeing up close how much skill these dancers have. It's one thing to see it on television, but it's another to see it live. They are all truly amazing.

Edited to add: Oh yeah, Tony Dovolani I guess happened to be in town too, so he made an appearance in the Q&A session. In reference to how they get assigned partners, he said that they give psychological tests to the stars, and whoever fails gets assigned to Tony. And then Emma indicated that whoever fails the physical tests gets assigned to her.

From where I was sitting, I could see that Tony was backstage watching a lot of the show, which I found very charming for some reason. Maybe it wasn't genuine--I don't know--but seeing the look on his face while he watched the performances was quite sweet. It was as though he really wanted to see and celebrate what all the dancers were doing.

Tony made the same jokes at another show I saw a couple years ago - but back then, he said he got the ones who failed the psych test and Lacey got the ones who were just "weird."

Thanks so much for the recaps!

Saw the show in San Jose, including a meet & greet. The m&g in SJ included Alfonso, Val, Witney, Emma, and Keo. Emma is as big as a minute, which leaves Witney about as big as 30 secs. Keo is at least 6', and Val is like a Ukrainian Joey Tribbiani -- how YOU doin' oozing charm.

As others have mentioned, Mark and Val play guitar and Violin along with a guest (Dylan Chambers, I think). They played a number of times, and did a great Latin piece together.

Keo and Emma did a steamy rumba while Mark and Dylan played.

It was great to see Kym (her legs! Lordy!), but in group numbers she and Keo were usually in back, probably because they were tallest.

Sasha and Val have the fastest feet! Amazing. Emma was in A LOT of numbers -- possibly more than anyone. She's adorable, and was very present and friendly at the meet & greet.

For those of you who also follow SYTYCD, Brittany Cherry, Brooklyn Fulmer, and Paul Karminian (something like that) were also in the cast. Brittany was great -- she and Paul did a contemporary piece, and in group routines she was usually with Val. Paul was really good and so adorable.

I saw it on Valentine's Day--very enjoyable, everyone very likable. I thought Alfonso made a good host and the light hearted banter with everyone throughout also worked well. Good to know (from reading here) that they apparently ask some different questions each time during the Q/A. Mark was the only interesting answer for me--that he starts his choreography by listening to lots of music and anticipating the dances before the season begins. Then he submits five song requests for each style of number for the show to clear the music (understandably, he's afraid if they can't clear songs he wants--as has happened in the past--he'll be stuck with music he doesn't like.) I found this interesting because I didn't realize (1) they planned so far ahead and (2) they had so much control over the selection of music. To me, both of these are good things.

About the actual dancing, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't like seeing the live show. For one thing, the costumes and choreography were far more limited. Not just no gorilla costumes, but pretty predictable clothing--gowns or short leotard-like (white, sparkly) for the women and tuxes or, more often, casual dress for the men (often unbuttoned shirts). Good assortment of styles: fox trot, waltz, (no quick step), jive, samba, tango, etc. Good, standard choreography but nothing nearly as creative as on the show either in costuming or choreography (much more limited music, too). Fun to see Mark and Dylan play and sing--they were good, albeit in a style I'm not crazy about. Val on violin--alone and with them--was fun to see as well and sounded better than when he played on the show.

He's obviously the most popular (and has the greatest stage presence/charisma) so he comes out and talks to the audience for a bit. This time--I do believe it was unplanned--he brought out Maks, who was backstage. As charismatic as Val was, Maks really surprised me by being so much moreso (also taller and broader--most of the dancers were surprisingly short, other than Keo. Maks is more manly looking, less boyish, than Val. They were cute together, as Maks was trying to get Val to eat a banana backstage since he was apparently having leg cramps. Since he wasn't taking the advice, Maks was "texting Mom" when he was called on stage. Their relationship seemed so genuinely affectionate. Maks told a cute story about how they'd only been in the U.S. for two days when Val--wearing borrowed dance shoes and Maks' shirt--won a dance competition "because he smiled so much through the whole thing they just couldn't NOT give it to him."  They both thanked the fans, as did Mark, Emma and Whitney, got a couple of digs in at the judges, esp Len for being a stick-in-the-mud (Mark and Maks anyway) and got in lots of promos for season 20. Even with all the chatting there was a lot of dance and it was a nice evening. (Alfonso admitted having an earlier tie to Thousand Oaks, CA, having opened a seafood restaurant here years ago that "you people didn't support".  He really should try again because his three numbers from DWTS were so enthusiastically received of course. (They opened the show with the Carlton one "to get that out of the way coz everyone always wonder when I'll do it"). Wish he'd open a restaurant now with the promise of dropping by once in a while, he's so personable (as, really, they all were).

According to Robin Leach, Alfonso will be appearing in Fresno & Las Vegas instead of Val.

http://m.lasvegassun.com/vegasdeluxe/2015/jun/02/alfonso-ribeiro-fill-val-chmerkovskiy-dwts-live-to/

And it's really cool Rumer's joining the tour on selected dates, & that she got a cool new tattoo on her bicep to commemorate her DWTS experience (pic is at the link below)

http://m.eonline.com/news/662426/rumer-willis-gets-a-dancing-with-the-stars-tattoo-as-if-winning-wasn-t-enough-see-the-pic

But, even though I won't be able to go, I'm sorry it looks like she won't be doing the tour show when it's in my hometown on July 31st. She's doing another show in my state, the day after my local show, but not my local show.

Okay it pains me so much, but I cannot go to Sway as hubby is ill.  I have two e-tickets for the Saturday night show in NYC.  If anyone is interested pm me and I'll email them to you.

Update: Tickets have been claimed.

I watched some of the videos from the tour and am in awe at what the pros can do. There's a beautiful dance with Peta and Artem then Val. Witney and Val are fun together in both dances of theirs that I saw. I don't want to spoil anything for those going, but it's too bad a certain tv remake has already been cast. Those two just light up the stage. The opening skit/dance was cute.

I hope Jenna gets a chance at pro. She was always just there on the show for me, but I'd like to see what she can do now. I think Brittany and Alan were good additions now.

I hope they do more all male dances on the show but more like the one from this tour instead of the Magic Mike inspirations. I enjoy the gratuitousness but would like to see the power they showed in this dance.

I don't understand, however, why the staging and production looks so cheap still (at least in videos) I know it's the same set as the winter tour, but it looks so early 90s award show. And, I thought the choreography in some of the group numbers was lacking - the country one especially.

The headline of this linked article (& similar articles posted to other Twitters/sites) is misleading, in my opinion. It implies Rumer has had to *completely* drop out of the tour (she's developed stress fractures in her right foot).

But according to social media posts she wrote which were quoted in at least the linked article, she's only had to stop dancing during the touring show (at least for the time being; there's apparently hope she can dance again before the tour ends); she's apparently still singing for dances performed by other couples during the touring show.

Does anyone have a list of the songs that they dance to on the Perfect 10 Tour? I saw the show tonight in Richmond and loved several of the songs and it doesn't seem to be posted anywhere about a set list. I even checked my program and didn't see it listed. Thanks!!

As I recall, they told her several times to keep her shoulders up. Then there was the dance that she didn't quite have the seductress attitude needed. I believe she was able to correct the issue with her shoulders though.

I thought the season finale was one of the better ones. Although I was rooting for Bindi, there were several others that I cheered for during the season. I've had seasons where nobody interested me, but this time, it was nice to see more of them doing well. I could do with less of the tearjerker moments though.

What is the tour they were talking about, and how many of the current celebs get to participate?

The tour is, apparently, called Dancing with the Stars Live!. It's a live show where a lot of the pros & troupe members, & *some* (but apparently not all) of the celebs from the past season, basically, do a DWTS-type performance show but without getting judges scores after each performance.

It's probably the dancing equivalent of the ice skating/ice dancing shows (Stars on Ice, etc.) or the gymnastics shows that tour the country after each Olympics, or similar to the American Idol touring shows after each season; I think--but I'm not positive--that SYTYCD does (or at least did) a similar show featuring some/all of their participants from the current season once it ends.

I don't think they've had a DWTS touring show after every season either; I think they had 1 the first few years of the show (when it was really hot), then dropped it for awhile, then brought it back at least last season (Rumer did selected dates as a dancer, until she got stress fractures in her feet, & as a singer performing while another couple danced to her song; last year's show came to my hometown, but Rumer wasn't in the cast here), if not before, & are doing it again this season, through Valentine's Day (which is probably a little before the S22 pros will get their celeb pairings & have to start rehearsals with them, since the Spring season premiere is March 21st, I think).

More information, including photos of the pros/troupe members scheduled to tour, a photo of Alek--as a representative celebrity on the tour (they said on the Finale that Hayes is apparently on the tour too; Alek & Hayes are the only 2 celebs definitely committed to it, but I think Alek is only doing "selected" dates, like Rumer did last tour)--& the scheduled cities, performance dates/times, & venues can be found here:

http://dwtstour.com/

Hope this helps. Sorry for the sort of long-windedness; I was trying to explain it the best way possible.
