Awe SS I didn't take it as abrupt at all! I am very new to the off topic thread and was confused. You were helpful! Thanks to you both :)

God I hate insomnia. What happen to the nights where I could sleep 8 hours. Now I'm lucky if I can get 5 and even when I have the opportunity to sleep in I'm still up at  the same time day in and day out regardless if it's 5 hours sleep or three.

ARRRRRRR!

I feel for you both.  I remember how awful it was when I was still working.  Now, I embrace the awake and just sleep whenever I can.  It may only be for a few hours, but the naps add up, I suppose.

I woke up from a nap about an hour ago, so I guess I'll go make myself something to eat, since it seems like I'm up for the rest of the night.  I don't have set mealtimes, either.  :~)

I am retired so I am not bothered by my random sleep patterns as much as I would if I were still working.   But I have been hearing a lot about how important it is to get 8 hours of sleep a night.  It is the theme on any show that talks about important health things.  That will change to something else, of  course.

I do buy the gluten free eating though.  Hard to maintain for a long time, because bread is my favorite thing,  but wow.  I ate that way for 3 months and felt fantastic.  Then my cousin was here for xmas and we were out doing last minute shopping.  He wanted a bagel.  So I had one too.  Oh my.  I could barely get through the day and when home took to the couch for the rest of the day and went to bed early.  I felt sick; my bones seemed to be made of lead.  It was like a very bad flu.

A month later my ex husband did gluten free for only 2 weeks.  When he returned home his wife had made bagels.  He ate one.  Exact same reaction.

I haven't had a solid 8 hour sleep in well over a decade - long before I retired.  But that had little to do with my diet; it was all about the 50, 70 or 90% pain that kept waking me.  :-)

Hope you're feeling better.

Walnut  Queen, I'm still laughing over your pee joke, then showed it to my husband, and he's still laughing!  That's a good one!

You ladies all sound like me.  If my life depended on it, I could not sleep for more than 4 hours.  I'm also a night owl and often don't feel tired, but even if I am tired, I stay up playing Solitaire or something else dumb.  That's only part of the time.  I have to take three kinds of pain meds, so the other nights I'm so tired I couldn't spell straight if I had to!  Geez, I oughta sell those pills to you ladies, and we'd have lots of little Kimmies floating around these threads!  (*JOKING!!!!!*)

I've been having trouble staying asleep and falling back asleep once I wake up. I had a sleep study which led to a holter monitor heart test, which showed some concerning stuff. I have an appointment with a heart specialist tomorrow.

Thanks, I will. The test showed something called sinus pause which means that my heart stopped beating for several seconds. The most was 5 seconds, and a slow heart rate at other points. My Dr thinks I might need a pacemaker. This might be what is waking me up, but doesn't explain why I can't go back to sleep. I think it also might explain why I wake up so tired. I'm just glad we caught it and are getting it looked at, whatever happens next.

Yes, please keep us informed. It is good that you caught it. Good luck with everything.

I'm going to visit a new school tomorrow for my son. The preschool he is at now is really not suited for him. We were trying to see if it would work but it's just not. The school I'm going to visit is specifically for children with autism. The only problem is it's an hour away. So please keep me in your thoughts. I'm hoping I love it.

Ditto.

GreatKazu - those night sweats are a BITCH!  I still get them sometimes, and it's been over 15 years since they started (I refused to go the hormone route).  My ice packs do double duty - they're great for pain AND hot flashes.  :-)

Thank you all for the support. I have to have one more test but it looks like I'm fine. I definitely do not need a pacemaker! My regular Dr gave me quite a scare but he was just being cautious. Long story, but my symptoms are probably related to some other chronic health conditions.

wings707 I'm not sure why you deleted your comment, but your advice to " stop, drop and roll" gave me a laugh and reminded me to take a deep breath and not panic unnecessarily. I also appreciated your reminder to always research in order to make as informed decision as possible and also to not forget about alternative treatments. I will remember this advice going forward.

Let's hope imjagain also has good news regarding her son's school!

Thank you all again.

That's great news EVS , no pacemaker. Good luck on your next test. Sending positive vibes.

My visit to the school went well. I was impressed. The personal attention each child gets was amazing. Everyone is trained to deal children with autism and all that, that entails :).

My only concern is the distance, I know an hour is not that long and I'm sure some have to travel farther. It's just I'm a worry so much about my little guy. With him being verbally delayed, he can't always tell me what is wrong. So I worry about everything, someone hurting him. Him getting hurt and I can't get to him right away.

Anyway the school looks great. I liked what they were doing and it's probably going to be the school.

Hope you all have a great day.

Imjagain, I hope the school works out for the little feller! I don't know what to say to help ease your anxiety about the distance. Is it mileage distance or traffic distance that makes it an hour? That is a big chunk of time, but also manageable it seems to me. You seem kind of peaceful about what the school can do for your son so that is a good sign.

Thanks stewedsquash,

It's distance. I am a ball of anxiety most of the time, when it comes to my son. I have for the most part learned to suppress it and move on or else we would get nothing done :)

I know his needs are way more important than my need to wring my hands.

Yeah, this school looks to be a better fit for him so I'm excited.

I deleted it because I thought it was harsh.  I am glad you did not think so!   I always question the medical community.  They treat symptoms not the cause.  Medication and surgery are their first attack.

I just bought a house in Phoenix and signed a contract yesterday to sell mine here in Florida!  Whoo Hoo!  But what a lot of work.  I am packing things everyday now and only taking the bare bones things I need.  What a job.  And I moved here 10 years ago and did a huge purge, then 2 years ago did another one here because I knew I was going to move eventually.  And I still have stuff to get rid of.  The funny thing is that I am not a saver at all.  I am a tosser.  So I can only imagine what it would be like for those who have lived in a house for decades that save things.  Oh boy.

I will be reading on this board, the shows I watch but have precious little time to post.

Anyone here live in South Florida and want a lot of cool stuff?   My entire kitchen for starters.   I am only cherry picking my good pans and tools.  Everything else goes.   I live on Hutchinson Island.

You might try posting to Freecycle. It has groups in many areas. Basically you post "wants" or "offers" of items and local people respond. I had a neighbor with cancer and I asked for a walking cane with feet and someone gave us one and then someone posted a case of Endure drinks as an offer that was also needed and I got them for the same neighbor. Its a great way to give stuff away because its convenient and it keeps stuff out of the landfile!

Wings, please accept my early welcome to Phoenix :) I know you'll like it here, although I'm so SO very sorry you're coming as we head into summer. The upside is the summer storms are amazing and a nice respite from heat that can feel like you're standing in front of an open oven door (if there's a breeze, it's like a blow-dryer set on high). Always look for anything resembling a shady spot in which to park, and again, welcome to the desert.

My son has lived there for almost 20 years and I visit often so I know what I am walking into.  I had no control over the timing.  When that house came on the market I snapped it up!  I have been looking for 3 years.  I will be in Paradise Valley, where do you live?

I found someone who will pick up my free stuff.  Thanks for the suggestion, Almost.

That's Moon Valley, and yes, a bit farther than PV. At one point, I seriously considered living in the area, but I get irrationally twitchy if I can't see Camelback from my home for reasons I don't understand and can't begin to explain.

It's a bit warm today, but we'll be back in double digits, hopefully, next weekend. It's too early for 107.

Travel safely.

My name is Savannah. I wrote in here a couple of months ago, when my aunt Kathy (ub40fan) passed away and some of you responded with some very kind words.

Well, I inherited her Kindle! She had over 500 books on it as well as a few games and links to certain websites. You all were so nice in the things you said, it made me curious, so I signed up on this website to see what the fuss was about.

You guys are funny! And smart and inciteful and as I've said, very kind. But also snarky as hell.

I'm going to enjoy making this website one of my daily go-tos and I've made a vow to read all of Kathy's books. Soon I will know more about North Korea, tectonic plates and the Romanov family than anyone should.

Anyway, I just thought I would introduce myself and thank you again for tha lovely things you said about my aunt. I think about her every day

Yes.  That was a point of reference to illustrate distance.  I am in Paradise Valley just south of Cactus and east of 7th St.

Better than Florida.  Humidity can make 88 degrees feel like it is over 100.  The air is thick and oppressive.  I am glad to be leaving it behind.

Welcome, Savannah1985!  I'm so glad you decided to join us.  I remember your aunt Kathy fondly - she seemed like a very interesting and honest person who had a lot to share with us.  It's so cool that you have her Kindle with all those books; she certainly had some eclectic interests!   This is a great place to visit, and not just for the snarking about TV shows.  There's an "Off Topic" section at the bottom of the forums homepage where you can talk about all sorts of stuff, including Books.  :-)

I hope to see more of you around these forums in the future.

You're in a terrific area, I thought you were closer because PV only extends West to 32nd St. No biggie :)

The two constant upsides to being here are the amazing winters and no natural disasters - yay!  I've not been to Florida, but I've heard the temp/humidity combo is definitely oppressive (every person I know from there uses that word). We use it for anything over 110 when every degree makes a difference.

You and me both. I always tell people I'm like Baby Bear and need it to be just right. It's usually in conjunction with explaining I'm allergic to snow. I can cool off if I get too warm, but too cold and I'm miserable - once the teeth are chattering...not just no, but hell no. The heat in my car comes on when it's 68 - cold feet = miserable and cold for hours. I'm such a big baby :)

I was lied to!!  LOL!   I found the house on Trulia when I entered Paradise Valley and the realtor kept referring to it being in Paradise Valley.  That must be of value but lost on me.  I know what your summers are like out there and they are brutal.  BUT I will take dry over humid any day.  The winters here are perfect weather and with my windows and doors open I can hear the surf.  I am on a barrier island, 1/2 block from the beach and paradise to some.  It is delightful in many ways.  I am looking forward to the chilly weather you have out there in the winter.  To be able to wear my leather jacket and actually feel cold sometimes is exciting.

I can honestly say that PTV, along with my critters and my TV, allows me to face (or avoid!) another shitty day.  I feel so much more connected and engaged, which is tough to do when you are a semi-disabled, semi-depressive recluse.  It has actually gone a long way towards restoring my broken faith in humanity.   So I am adding my thanks to yours, notnowimbusy.    :-)

My SIL has cancer and somehow has been holding on (nobody can figure out how, including her dr's).  She's bedridden, can't walk, use her arms/hands to feed herself, can hardly swallow, incontinent, etc.   It's like living daily waiting for the other shoe to drop.  My BIL is in complete denial, which can be hard.   He's with her from morning to night, but now has taken to stopping by around 9:30 to "talk".  Gosh, can't turn him away, but it's starting to wear on everyone.  Everyone has been holding things together pretty well, then yesterday my son came home from work early, and he was clearly upset.   He's a paramedic, and early in the morning he ran a call where he was faced with a 9 mo. old baby in cardiac distress!  The mother was a crack head.  Babies just don't go into cardiac arrest for no reason.   He worked on her at the scene, on the way to the hospital, but war pronounced dead.   So tough.   Police are now investigating, but apparently the mother was well known to CPS.   Ugh.  Anyway, this was all it took for all of us to just fall apart.   Just a really bad week and it's only Monday!!!     Planning on diving into RHOC tonight and forgetting everything!

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and good vibes.   It helps.  Sometimes life hands you lemons, and you just want to hurl them at people ;-)

To those in Phoenix, how do you do it?   We have been having such a mild, wonderful spring and I was loving it.  Out of the blue, today it heated up to 95 and I raced inside, turned on the AC (with fans in front of the vents for additional cooling).   I'm praying for the fog to come rolling in to get things back to normal.   I do so much better in fall/winter.   LOL My family knows when it comes to heat, I become nocturnal - and only venture out after dark.
